Very friendly . Looked reasonably priced. BUT the food was tasteless and no I don't have COVID.. very little spice in the starters and the mains were like dishwater.... The chicken was of very poor quality. We thought it must be previously frozen as it was hard. It beggars belief I know as the previous reviews were excellent. But for me one bad experience will keep me away forever.

My partner and I have been to Jamil Spice in Howden twice now and loved it both times. They have all the traditional curries on the menu and a few others I haven't seen in other restaurants, including a decent range of vegetarian options. Each of our meals was cooked to our taste (with the waiter asking how hot we would like it) and was packed full of flavour. The meat was cooked well and the fish in my curry melted in the mouth, it was gorgeous. The waiter was attentive and chatty and made the night more enjoyable. I would have liked to have been offered a soft drink however I have since learnt that at this restaurant you should bring your own drinks - which is fair enough! We will be returning again.

As a regular here, this is by far my number one curry house in Howden! It’s also a bonus having BYOB. The owner always greets you with a smile and hand shake. The food we had was Hot and tasty! Each dish cooked to special requests of Heat which was no problem at all for the chef. I would recommend the chicken Pathia.

Food is nice, but need to take ALL your own drinks. Carpet is worn and grubby, toilet is in need of urgent updating, even a new toilet seat would be something. Don't think I will use again for a while.

We dropped in with no reservation on Saturday night and were fitted in with a moments thought. Though it was challenging to choose from the extensive menu we picked two unfamiliar dishes which turned out interesting and delicious. Do try the starters for two. Very good value and unreservedly recommended

We’ve been here a couple of times now but it’s very cramped and as I’m a severely disabled person using either my sticks or a frame I found it very difficult to get into the place. The tables are very tight together, and when we asked if we could move to another table to make it easier for me, was told that they would be getting busy shortly and would need the other tables for other people, which put us off right away. The food is good and quite cheap compared to other places we’ve been. They don’t have a license so I expect that makes a difference, you can take your own wine, beers etc, and they will open it and provide glasses for you, so maybe that’s where the costs can be kept lower.

Visited this little restaurant 3 times in the last couple of months, the latest visit last night and as always it didn’t fail to delight. Raj is front of house as well as the chef and he does an amazing job on both fronts, he’s friendly without being pushy and the food is freshly cooked and can be adapted to personal taste which is always the sign of a good restaurant. I love the king prawn puri, the garlic chicken is amazing, I’ve fallen in love with the coconut rice and the cauliflower bhaji mmmmm! Definitely worth a visit, worth noting that it doesn’t serve alcohol but you can take it along and no corkage! Serves soft drinks should you wish but they don’t mind you taking your own. A leisurely meal because everything is fresh so if you don’t like to linger over your meal then this is not for you, but you are missing a trick! Will definitely be going back!

Jamil's is tucked down a side street, with a nice approach looking up at the Minster. But there the prettiness ends :) The food was really nice and the service excellent, but you can't help but come out with the impression that the place is shabby (and not on the chic side!)

At very short notice we decided to hire this restaurant for a birthday meal for 36 friends. Jamil Spice is a Bring Your Own alcohol extablishment, and whilst people do sit in to eat its fair to say it is mainly a Takeaway Indian. Proprietor 'Raz' was very helpful in assisting us to organise the evening, we agreed an order for individual Mixed Starter servings and each of the 36 people would order a main course on arrival. The night before we delivered our supplies of beer and wine - the Jamil team were busy rearranging the restaurant to ensure everyone would be seated comfortably - a few extra seats were shipped in from another branch!. All meals are cooked fresh to order so naturally there was a gap between the poppadums and starter before the main courses were served. This was not a problem and all of our guests were very complimentary about the service and quality of food. These are nice genuine people and they deserve to succeed. There is another Indian Restaurant in Howden but my experence (having tried both) is that Jamil Spice is vastly superior, albeit smaller and tucked away down a Howden side street. Jamil also offers outside catering, something we shall certainly explore in the future. Well done the Jamil team, a good job well done at very short notice!

Tucked away down a cobbled back street, don't let the homely, cafe like interior put you off trying this small restaurant. The food is excellent. Our party of five ordered dishes that were each interesting and individually flavoured. The meat used was fresh and delicious, and the flavours were superb. Portion size was excellent. The nan breads were particularly large! The chef really knows how to cook. One other thing; you can bring your own beer or wine, with an excellent off licence only 100 yards away Our total bill for five people including three with soft drinks was under £55. The proprietor is a great guy who really cares about his customers and tries hard to make sure you have an enjoyable visit. Not the obvious choice for a curry in Howden, but you'll get a great meal.

We opted for a takeaway here whilst staying at Yellowtop for a couple of nights and was so pleased we did, the food was red hot, well packaged and plentiful, so och do that next time we come it'll be rice and nann yo share. My other half opted for a chicken buna, tasted very nice, I opted for Chicken tikka tandoori and of my gosh was this lush.
