Jacobs and Field in Oxford

My London goto breakfast place is Heddon Street Kitchen. In Oxford today and went to Jacobs and Field in Headington where I had the Jacob All Day Breakfast and my wife the Eggs Ruben. Wow, both were fantastic, I'd go far as saying they are on par with HSK and @gordonramsey, you should try their mushrooms which top HSK's by a country mile. Great staff too, very friendly and polite, thank you.

Went about 2 years ago and really enjoyed the whole experience. Thought give it another go and it was as good if not better. Coffee was excellent and food was tasty. They were very busy but did not have to wait long. Definitely recommend them and will be going back soon. Big thanks to all staff.

I cant sugar coat this it was a terrible experience. I ordered the sashauka a normally superb food. When it came up omg. I assume this dish is prepared in the morning the microwaved to oblivion when it is asked for. It is horrible soggy potato, burnt and black eggs microwaved onions and tomatoes. Just dreadful and should never ever be served to a human. Avoid this place its bad really bad. Note to the owners. You cant get away with this, get a cook who know what he is doing , you cant employ young people and train them to use a microwave its not acceptable So in a nutshell dont go here the food is disgusting truly bad.

I had the best experience coming to Jacob's and Field , good food good coffee and excellent service from Grace. And they allowed dogs too.

Sad to say, standards have cooled, here. Cool (or should I say "disinterested" or "uninterested" - both would be applicable) welcome from the staff, cool (instead of warm) food. I cooled my arm by holding it up in the air for a long while to try and catch the eye of the waiters chatting away to one another. Cool, almost non-committal, response to the 12.5% tip I left (I always tip, regardless of service). Not too keen to return, though we've been here many times over the years.

Great spot to meet a friend for lunch. Easy to park in Waitrose carpark next door. Good service & ok food at an ok price. It ticked the box so I think we’ll be back.

I’ve been going to J&F since it opened more than a decade ago. It was a great to place for all day breakfast and good coffee. It had actual sourdough. The coffee wasn’t your best latte but it was reliable. The staff were quirky and nice. Then J&F felt the need to expand. It grew bigger than it could guarantee standards would stay. It got worse and worse over the years and I stopped going regularly l. Went with a friend who moved away and felt nostalgic about “our old hangout place”. We ordered breakfast and the experience was shocking. 1. Rude staff basically implying we should be grateful to get anythung as it’s busy (more than half the tables were empty) 2. The 3 meals whilst ordered together (!) arrived 20 or more minutes apart 3. The coffee was barely drinkable 4. The breakfast for 10+ quid was small, the eggs were too runny to be called scrambled. The bread was no longer sourdough but some cheap-ish multigrain with no taste Never again. Shame, cause I would always support local business over any chain, but I won’t be back to this. I hope they find themselves again.

Came here for an impromptu lunch. Great little place both inside and out. We sat outside as it was a lovely day. Menu was great and the food lovely from all day breakfasts, burgers and salads to wraps. The shatshuka was delightful! Staff helpful and friendly!

Jacobs and Field is our local restaurant and coffee shop for lunch dinner and brunch. Recently we have been there for lunch. The food was amazing beautifully served by lovely friendly polite waiters. The ambience is one of relaxation and good food. We went today and were served by James and Anton who are excellent at greeting and give explanations of the menu. We had such a wonderful time. Jacobs & Field gave our organisation a great afternoon tea with sandwiches, scone with jam & cream and a good selection of cakes. There was plenty of tea or coffee. It was a very successful event which we intend to repeat as soon as we can.

I attended the most enjoyable pre-booked afternoon tea together with a large group of members of our local U3A branch. We were well served by the friendly attentive Jacobs and Field staff who kept our plates filled with a selection of scones from the oven, a tasty range of sandwiches, that also catered for those with specific dietary needs, delicious cakes plus plenty of tea/coffee. Such a pleasant afternoon that no-one wanted to leave and we intend to return soon.

My friends and I (6 of us) came to Jacobs and Field when it was clearly very busy and expected a wait time considering the size of our table as well as the fact that we had not booked... instead we were seated almost immediately and the service was as if the restaurant was empty! Between us we ordered a few eggs Benedict's, a gypsy eggs and a full English breakfast. I cannot express enough what high quality the food was, particularly the hollandaise on the Benedicts (some of the best I have tasted) Highly recommend this cute spot in Headington. Will definitely be back

We met some local friends here for brunch. I'm from Oxford but had only been here twice before, for shame! I had booked a table 7 days prior, but they had no record of this. Thankfully, we were able to be seated in a lovely long table in the window, which was great! Between us, we ordered a meaty breakfast x 2, a veggie breakfast and an eggs benedict... and lots of coffee. The food was out of the world. Such excellent quality and just the right size portion wise. The service was excellent, too. I'll definitely be back!

Really disappointed in the rude service, unwelcoming, and poor quality of management and food served. Would not come back to this place. Dirty serving bowl, cold beans diluted with watery consistency and burnt bread, sausages and tomato. Asked to turn blaring music down but instead it was turned up. Not sure why they think this style of confrontational hospitality would work for anyone. I think it is under new management as previous experience was better…..

We three have just had an excellent lunch. We had a Jacob's breakfast, eggs on toast and a Croque Madame, all delicious. Service very good too We will be back.

I came to visit my son at university, and drove out through Headington on my way north out of the city. Feeling peckish, I parked up and went for a wander to find somewhere to have a bite to eat. Very unfortunately, as it now turns out, I happened upon what looked like a lovely little cafe. And decor wise, it is very nice. However, whilst the service was fine, and very polite, it has to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. And definitely not one to be repeated! I’ve just been charged £3.50 for what has genuinely got to be the world’s smallest latte. I kid you not, it was served in the tiniest vintage china tea cup I’ve ever seen. As for the “food”? I ordered the Eggs Florentine, my usual and frequent choice for brunch. Served on a toasted muffin, the person responsible needs to learn how to cut one into even pieces…needless to say the wafer thin half resembled a crispbread once it had been toasted. They also need to learn how to poach an egg, as both of mine were as far from being runny as it’s possible to be. As for the hollandaise sauce, by no word of a lie, there was literally no more than a couple of tablespoons drizzled over the entire meal, if that. I was, however, given more when I asked for it, but it did little to improve things overall. The only recommendation I can give is “don’t visit”. Do what I should have done, and head 2 minutes round the corner to Costa. Or Cafe Nero. At least you’ll get a decent cup of coffee! For less money to boot! I’ll always support local independent businesses over large chains, which is what I sought to do here. But if it’s a choice between this truly awful experience and a chain? Sorry, the latter wins hands down every time!

A few of us went to Jacob and Fields post night shift. The service we got was just fantastic. The lady was so attentive, interested in us but also so respectful of our space. The food was also fab, good portions, quick service and super tasty. Thanks so much for a wonderful morning :)

It’s a pleasure to go to a restaurant who pride themselves on serving quality local ingredients in their food. It’s a far cry from the typical all day English breakfast places serving awful food!

We had a bad experience on Sunday morning in the cafe. It took more than 50 mins to get a couple of sausage sandwiches and only then after chasing twice. The "manager" did not apologise and was generally surly. It's a pity because we are a long term supporter of J&F and I would have taken up the issue directly with them but the contact page on their website isn't working.

My father and I visited for brunch during the week and had a really nice visit. The staff were welcoming and attentive and they had reserved the booth we had asked for (my father is blind so struggles if we do not choose a table that works for him). The manager managed our rather fussy food requests very well and we felt well looked after :)

Visited with my boss last week and ordered eggs on toast with bacon and coffee. Toast fine but the eggs were the smallest possible and we had one half of a rasher of bacon each. The latte coffee was like the eggs in a tiny cup with nothing else. The bill for the two of us came to just over £21.00 which is a lot of money for very little.

I booked online for a 7pm meal. Was just about to jump in the shower at and get ready at 5pm and get a call to say they can't fulfill my booking leaving me to find somewhere else to eat that evening. As Victor Meldrew would say "unbelievable". Not even a proper apology or say a discount on a future meal. Seems you can't rely on your booking with these people. I have never experienced anything like this previously.

We have eaten here 3 or 4 times now and each time we have been here the food and service has been fantastic. We kind of feel like regulars here now as we keep wanting to come back. On our most recent visit we were served by Jo & Matt who were both very accommodating in serving us & ensuring we had a pleasant time. Any extra requests or queries we may have had was never a problem for them. The food itself was superb as it has been the other times we have visited. The garlic bread was simple but done perfectly & accompanied with Tzatziki sauce was really tasty. Also the mozzarella & chorizo garlic bread is a great option too. We had a burger and pizza for the main and both were so tasty. Getting the simple dishes cooked perfectly really does make a huge difference. It was all cooked fresh to order and the chutney slaw with the burger was amazing. We come back here frequently as we have never been let down by the great food provided so far or the excellent service we have received. It is more a pub style food menu but they make it all so fresh and would recommend to anyone wanting some great hearty food. However they do have a more café style venue at the front which serves delicious cakes with teas & coffees if you are just wanting a small snack.

Stopped into Jacobs on a Friday morning and had the Jacobs' brunch. The food was lovely: the homemade beans were excellent and full of flavour, the eggs were perfectly poached, the sourdough bread lovely, and the meal as a whole was extremely satisfying. Actually, everything about the visit was extremely satisfying. The decor is a delight, the atmosphere busy but relaxed, and all the staff very friendly. Jo, who waited my table, was very helpful and welcoming. The clincher for me was the extra bread she brought, at her suggestion, for cleaning my plate. It was the first of what will become many visits.

We popped into Jacobs for brunch with family visiting Oxford. While ordering I asked friendly waitress if French toast had milk added (I'm lactose intolerant). She went up to ask chef. He retorted: "Of course it does!" (all within earshot). She asked him if he could do something to accommodate customer: "No, it's all made up in advance". She returned to apologize and asked me to choose something else. Eggy bread slapped on a griddle seemed to be too much trouble for chef today.

I really like this place. I’d previously only had a coffee there but we found ourselves in Headington at dinner time so decided to give it a go.
