Great beer. They DON'T do food anymore but they let you order takeaway.

My first visit to this little hidden gem of a pub! They had a Jazz night which proved to be very popular for a Monday night. Unfortunately they don't serve food but uniquely you are more than welcome to bring your own or order in and have food delivered! Plates and cutlery will be provided on request. Offering a good choice of real Ales I was served by Emma who was so friendly and welcoming. I'm really looking forward to my next visit. Cheers 🍻

Had a couple of pints on a Sunday. No food menu, but crisps and nuts/snacks available. Service was good. Cask ales and draught. Comfortable spot.

Good choice ce of drinks, live music a friendly and warm pub

Great local. Not noisy just the sound of friendly neighbours and other customers having a relaxed time out. Hopefully will stay that way but with simple good food please! Edit! Ahem! It was incredibly noisy with live music last night, 16th September, I don't know if this is going to be regular but thank heavens I don't live near it.

A shadow of its former self. This pub has sadly gone down hill rapidly, it’s soul less, smells of mould and has a very poor drinks selection.

We've not visited for years as the previous owners had cats in the pub and I'm highly allergic to cats plus we like 'dogs welcome ' pubs. It was an early Sunday evening visit with quite a few people drinking with dogs so a good sign as far as we're concerned. Guinness was very good and service was excellent. Usual Oxford price but higher than pubs directly in Headington. Nice private garden. We didn't eat as there was no service. There's live music planned for next Saturday so we'll probably try them again. All in all, it's nice to have another choice of pub in Headington in walking distance.

Lovely local boozer, best landlord in the business

Since Paul & Pippa left were all waiting for the vibe to return. But can't fault the service with the new team. And still great beer. Just waiting for the food/nibbles (chili snaps, jelly beans, scratchings etc!) to return...and the decor!

Meat pie was decent, beer was fine. Bar tenders were great.

Stopped here for dinner last night. The owner was really friendly, the service was great and we all enjoyed our food. I would definitely go here again!

A great little gem of a pub, tucked away amongst traditional Edwardian housing. Parking is a little bit challenging but worth the effort. A Fullers house, serving well-kept ales at reasonable prices.

If I ran a pub I’d want it to be like this. Genuine, welcoming vibe with good beer and friendly staff. And the cat loves me too.

Excellent well kept beer. We both had Margarita pizzas today, which were good. The beer selection was good and well kept.

Was in the hospital near by in a wheelchair and saw there was a nice local pub nearby , the land lord and land lady were so helpful and welcoming and ended up popping in most days. Absolutely amazing place couldn’t reccomend more. Will be back there as soon as soon as I’m fit and healthy again!

Decent ale selection, though sadly a few were out. Reasonable if underwhelming whiskey selection. Bartender was fantastic, had a good beard and knowledgeable about vegan ales which is always a bonus, also had good whiskey taste. Didn't try the food... The cat is adorable and deserves loads of treats ;)

Warm been and welcoming small local pub with numerous beers, ales and lagers on tap. The fresh pizzas seem popular here.

Had a lovely meal - we went as two Couples and we all had pies which were delicious. One of the pies came out and it was a little burnt but the way the chef dealt with us couldn’t have been fairer and did not in anyway detract from the delicious meal. Was fun to sit and try and answer quiz questions in the garden without actually taking part in the quiz. Thank you for a great meal.

My favorite pub in all of Headington and Oxford! The owners and staff are so friendly, the food is amazing, pub quiz is lots of fun, and Geri the Pub Cat is outstanding. I was part of a group of students from America, living in Headington for a few months, and Paul and his crew were so welcoming of us. The environment is fantastic here with a good selection of drinks. Go on a Sunday night, order halloumi fries or fish and chips or sticky toffee pudding, and enjoy your evening.

Via TripAdvisor deze pub gevonden. Het ligt middenin een woonwijk, maar voor ons op loopafstand van ons hotel. Een hele leuke, gezellige pub met een tuin vol picknicktafels. Je kunt dus ook prima buitenzitten. De pub-kat scharrelt een beetje rond, iedereen is welkom. Lekkere Home-Made pizza’s en verse salade. Het feit dat het druk is met locals zegt denk ik genoeg!

Such a lovely pub. Although I don't drink very much (and it's not my closest pub - 20 min walk), I consider this to be my local. So cosy, with a free cat, games and dogs welcome. I'm not a fan of the food (sorry!!). Chips could be better please 🙂

Fabulous setting &: atmosphere, tucked away in the back streets of H'ton ! Add great, home cooked food & a welcome that's second to none c.!

One of my favourite pubs in Headington, with a nice selection of beers and short food menu. Personally, I prefer to have just a small selection of good options. I had their mushroom pie on a previous visit, so I wanted to give their mushroom pizza a try. It didn't disappoint! Very tasty, with just some chili oil on top. Don't forget the beer! I had the Meantime IPA.

The Butchers Arms is a gem! We recently held my daughters graduation meal there and we couldn't praise them enough. The food was fantastic and that was no easy feat to feed 40 plus hungry folk. Kiddies and the doggos were not left out either! The lovely relaxing atmosphere meant we stayed on late into the evening and everyone enjoyed it immensely. Thank you Paul, Pippa and Co for the best day..... Ye're one in a million! 💚💚

Mixed feeling. Food is simply terrible. Friendly people though.

I have a nightshade allergy (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, paprika, aubergines) and this hugely restricts what dishes I can eat. The Butcher's Arms staff were wonderfully accommodating, & didn't upcharge me for a substitution to avoid the foods I'm allergic to. I was happy to enjoy a delicious dinner and had a good time. The beers are well-kept and very tasty. Will gladly return soon!

Nice, quiet pub. Felt quite covid secure. No bike racks that I could find but there is a fence you can lock your bike to.

I think we've found the perfect pub! Friendly staff, fantastic food, super dog friendly (with a perfect Rosy Greyhound sized padded bench, plus doggy treats), a very busy Sunday quiz night, and a great selection of drinks. We'll be back.

Fantastic pub, great food and the staff were fabulous. One of my brothers has been in the local hospital for months and is now using a wheelchair. The family visit in rotation but wanted to meet together and take him out to lunch. It's a fantastic small and friendly local pub. The staff were really accommodating and helpful and made us feel welcome. The food was high quality and reasonably priced and very prompt service. A very positive recommendation from the entire party of 7 👍 Definitely give it a visit if in the area.

A historic Headington venue, typical with exceptional beer. Welcoming environment, particularly appreciable is the outdoor garden. The staff is also very friendly. Not to be missed!

Great place, very friendly owners. Small but good range of drinks, something for everyone for sure. I've had food from there before and it's good, can be on the smaller side if you eat a lot. During covid when the kitchen wasn't open they let us order food whilst we sat outside and drank. They run quizzes during normal non-covid times and overall would recommend, it's not really a bustling student pub, it's a proper local and that's a good thing. There is a cat, you might want to stroke it but it might not always want to be stroked - watch out!

A really friendly place. A reasonably sized beer garden. We went for a pint while ordering food from London Road takeaways. We were lucky to get in as they had bookings later. It's not the easiest place to find but there is limited free parking ( a premium in the area).

Can a Pub be more friendly and amiable than this? I don't think so. I hope so much, that my Butcher's will survive these dark Covid-Times.

One of the best pubs in Oxford. You will get such a warm welcome and there is such a relaxed atmosphere. This really is a good example of a timeless, traditional English pub. A very good menu and selection of drinks. Child and dog friendly.

The pub is great, with a menu way different from traditional (same chain) pubs. If you look for a different place with lovely food and g the greatest service. We tried some of the pizzas and some starters. The pies that ordered my wife and daughters were very taste. Although the food was great, the best by far was the service. Charming and super sympa, the best of Headington. Great job Paul and Pippa

Lovely pub with very friendly staff and even a pub cat - what's not to love! They have resumed doing a quiz on Sunday which seems to have proved popular based on the turnout!

We went because it said it was dog friendly, and wow they weren't wrong! The owners are lovely and obviously love welcoming dogs and their owners. Our pooch was welcomed with a bowl of water and several biscuits. They also have a resident cat, so that was an interesting meet! Great food too, I had the homemade pie, mash and gravy and couldn't fault it. Parking nearby is mostly permit parking, but there are some places within walking distance. It's definitely a local pub, doesn't have the cold chain feel to it.

I consider this my local, despite being nearer to seven other pubs. The beer is well conditioned and there's historically been an excellent selection (which will return if more people turn up). The food is reliable and sensibly priced - nothing to phone home about, but solid pub fare when I can't be bothered cooking. Also, there's a cat.

The staff was very friendly but the food was underpar and overpriced. They also admit dogs and we spent our lunch having to listen to a whining dog at the next table. Not the best pub lunch experience I've had, unfortunately.

Came here on a whim after a random search on google. Extremely friendly owners and staff. A real hidden gem. Food was delicious and arrived very promptly. Would recommend in a heartbeat.

Very good range of Fuller's beers and incredibly friendly staff

My husband and I popped in for a quick bite to eat on a Saturday evening. We could not have been made more welcome despite the fact that it was very busy. My husband ordered chicken goujons which he enjoyed. However, the biggest accolade has to go to the steak pies we had for our main course. Plenty of meat, lovely pastry, creamy mash (or chips in my husbands case), peas and an actual jug of delicious gravy. The attention from staff and sympathetic and caring attitude was more than appreciated (we were on a break from visiting at the local hospital). Thank you. This place is certainly worth a visit. A hidden gem.
