Jackson's Boat in Trafford

If you've ever wondered what it feels like to be personally victimised by a plate of food, allow me to recommend this fine establishment. We came in hopeful, stomachs rumbling, ready for a hearty Sunday roast. What we received was a crime scene on a plate. The food arrived cold—so cold, in fact, I briefly considered checking if the chef had mistaken the oven for the fridge. But the real pièce de résistance? The mashed potatoes. Not only were they lukewarm at best, but they also arrived with what can only be described as a human fist print right in the middle. Was this some sort of abstract plating technique? A chef’s silent cry for help? A physical manifestation of the regret I would soon feel? The mystery remains unsolved. To their credit, the staff were friendly and promptly refunded us, possibly out of sheer embarrassment. So, while I did leave with my wallet intact, I also left with a deep sense of culinary betrayal. Would I return? Only if I develop an ironic appreciation for cold meat and forensic potato analysis. Until then, I’ll be seeking my Sunday roast elsewhere—preferably somewhere that doesn't serve their mash by hand.

Contrary to some recent reviews, four of us had very nice meals here. The chunky chips in particular were fabulous; crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The apple pie was also really good; like an apple upside-down cake with a crumble base. Very tasty!

It’s such a shame it’s so bad! This place has potential. The food is absolutely shocking in how bad it is. Cheesy garlic bread was boiling at one end and freezing at the other. Veggies wirh the roast are total mush. The burger is straight out of the microwave. As others have commented, 17 year old kids running the place, and I’m sorry it’s just not cutting it. The building is also freezing cold- didn’t take my parka off the whole time. Not the vibe you want in January at the pub. If you want a beer in the warm weather, the outside is ok. But steer clear in winter and of food in general. Gross and such a shame.

Fish & Chips were amazing with mushy peas, the atmosphere was really nice with the Christmas decorations, the service was fantastic & we also ordered a doggie dinner that went down really well, really enjoyed our visit

This must rate as being the worst pub I've ever had the misfortune of visiting. Very cold, i.e. no heating, only one bitter on tap, they don't do Martini Rosso, they don't do Aperol Spritz and they don't do lemons (for the gin and tonic, to replace the other drinks which weren't available). Other patrons were complaining about food not arriving on time (I must add that some staff had called in sick that day leaving one girl on her own at the bar). Other members of my family say their recent visits have been equally disappointing. Shame, it's well placed next to the Mersey but will probably close in the near future.

This place really shouldn’t be serving food ! Ive called in for something to eat after a walk , We ordered a Sunday chicken dinner , Wow it was definitely the worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had served yo me , Mash potatoes was smash potatoes , the packet stuff you add water to !! Roast potatoes that had been deep fried and left to dry for several hours !! Vegetables that I guess have been stewing for several hours ! Chicken that had dried out that much it had a dusty taste ! That was just my meal my partners meal was as bad if not worse Terrible !! I’ve just read the reviews from previous customers and they have experienced the same , I have no idea why such a pub with huge potential with a mass of people who pass by Every day think this is exceptable !!? The worst thing about this they know there reviews are this bad and obviously have no intentions in changing anything , and just do t care about their customers This is disgraceful ! We had a great Sunday roast at Jackson’s- the food was delicious, plentiful and great value for money. I am often disappointed by a roast out, but this roast didn’t disappoint at all. The staff and the chef were great, really friendly and attentive- they couldn’t do enough for us. We are looking wars to our next visit! Thanks all for a great afternoon.

Sunday lunch at the Jackson’s Boat inn on 8 September 2024 was extremely disappointing. Despite management promises to improve following many negative reviews, we found he food to be of unacceptable quality and very poor value for money. The roast potatoes seem to have been deep fried rather than roasted with some hardly edible on the inside, the chips were lukewarm, and other veg poorly cooked. Similarly, the hamburger was unappetising and the nut roast was of similarly low quality. The serving staff were apologetic, but it is highly unlikely we will be eating there again. A real pity as the central location of the Jackson’s Boat on the banks of the Mersey, and the outside seating, could be a draw if only it provided a better offering.

Having read some of the recent horror stories on here we were a little wary of visiting Jackson's Boat. In fairness, it was far from a disaster. The food was served super quick, the staff were friendly and the whole setting is great for kids and families, with a large play area and massive beer garden. Nonetheless; the actual food itself was mediocre, the toilets filthy and inside the pub itself felt spartan and run down. Not the worst pub in the world but with a bit more TLC and attention to detail it could be much better.

Disappointing . The atmosphere and general ambiance of the place is awful . The food was of a very poor standard . My curry contained hardly any chicken and the sauce was watery . My wife’s chicken was overcooked in a tasteless sauce . We will never eat there again . A complete waste of money .

Beautiful pub in a gorgeous setting. Large children’s outdoor play area all enclosed. Large portions pizzas are amazing 10/10 definitely will be returning. Thank you❤️

Met two pals here at 17.00 hours Thursday 16th August for a drink and something to eat. Ordered a pint of Timothy Taylors, which was cloudy. Came to jacksons boat for the egg hunt and some dinner on the 31st of March with my family the hunt was great for the kids and they even got the easter bunny to greet people and take photos truly made memories for the kids it took a while for the food to come out but it was lovely when it did as busy as it was all the staff did everything they could to accommodate everybody best they could well done everyone

Food was the best part, fair play to the chef. Girl serving at the bar with curly hair, horrendous customer service. Incredibly rude, made ordering very awkward, spoke badly to other customers too. If you don’t like your job that much go and do something else! Will never return, do no recommend

First time going after it reopened. Always had decent food here. What a disappointment order 2 chicken and bacon mayo sandwiches and disgusting. Never had a sandwiche that consisted of mainly mayo slithers of chicken (Wouldn’t fill one cracker). And microscopic dots of bacon.

Took my dad for lunch. Service was impeccable and our food was delicious! Huge improvement all round, thank you Melissa! Only one little negative, muddy paw prints on the seats which we just noticed when the sun came out, not an issue for us however some may find off putting. New management is fabulous! Oh and the open fire is magical!!

We arrived around 1pm, boxes and bin bags of Christmas decorations around the pub left, could be put away until staff are putting them up. Looks scruffy. Doggy treat shelf looks abandoned. Arrived at the till, after a nice dog walk we wanted a cup of tea and hot chocolate. Another couple were in front of us already at the till being informed of the very limited menu due to waiting for delivery. They finally ordered, they then ordered two teas, the waitress said we should have enough milk for two teas we are waiting for delivery. I ordered and asked is there enough milk for one hot chocolate? She said she would have a look, the reply was no sorry because they have ordered two teas. She said we do have juice and draft drinks if you’d like one of them. Yes I appreciate there is other drinks… but why did someone not think to drive to the local shop and literally pick up some milk?? This pub used to be great but has had lots of changes recently.. you’d think for a pub in the middle of really nice walks they would want to cater for walkers and their dogs. The couple before us said you haven’t got the fire on to which the staff member said we have.. This pub heavily relys on walkers. Please get the milk in!

Came on Saturday with family, had a.fanastic time. There was a charity event on and was quite busy but the staff were amazing, helpful and friendly especially Becky, she couldn't be more friendly and polite and has a great personality. Manager shaun introduced himself and was friendly and welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

We arrived at Jackson’s Boat after a walk around Chorlton, it was an old haunt of ours and it was lovely to be back. Sean introduced himself as the new manager and was extremely attentive and friendly. When we arrived there had been a charity event just finishing and it was quite busy and chaotic (not their fault) Sean apologised for our short wait on food and offered complimentary drinks - not often you see this level of hospitality now. Looking forward to returning for the lovely homely atmosphere.

errible experience on 16/08/23 we booked in to come for my daughters 5th birthday.As our family and friends arrive there was one staff on the bar and the que was out the door. After When we asked if there was anyone to help the poor guy behind the bar we were told the assistant manager was in the kitchen. We knocked on the door to see if someone could come out to help him the blond girl who I assume was the assistant manager came out with an awful attitude ranting and raving about being short staffed and said it was tough we would have to just wait. I suggested it might be a good idea to of just done a limited menu if the kitchen were short staffed so the chef could cope because the pub was being neglected and the customers were getting really unhappy waiting but she said no and slammed the door. When we finally got served 20 mins later we were told that the bottle of wine I wanted to order for £20 odd pound was not allowed outside and the whole bottle needed to be split between 2 plastic pint glasses 🥴 After more of our table arrived they experienced long wait and bad attitude and manners from the assistant manager so we left. It ruined my daughters birthday the booking was in the diary along with my number I just wish someone called to let us know the nightmare we were about to experience. As we were leaving we heard the kitchen had closed completly! We ended up going to the bowling Green in Chorlton, great food and service and lovely safe play area. You get your wine in a cooler to! Lovely location and so much potential but management food and service all shocking.

Arrived here at 5.45pm to say they had stopped serving food but then decided we could order something as we’d book the table got to the bar to be greeted by young staff that just hadnt a clue and just said yeah got none of this that this left so we were just like well what have you got left?? Staff arguing with each other and very unprofessional, food was 3/10 straight from icelands . Drinks were flat ,overall a pretty bad Sh*t show Wont be going back here again ever its ran very badly

Such a shame to write this. I called up in advance as it was advertised as free parking for motorhomes over night. The lady on the phone was lovely explaining they normally close between 7-8 (food service will stop around 7) if it’s quiet but I said that was absolutely fine as we were only travelling for 1.5 hours and should be there for 6. Arrived. Lovely pub - good few tables full outside and nice park for the kids (6.05pm) advised they had stopped serving food… so 4 hungry kids we approached the bar to order a drink whilst we looked for somewhere else. My husband Ordered a large Sauvignon… he was given a rose wine… I then separately ordered a Sauvignon & the bar lady said ‘a what’ - they only sell 2 white wines. It’s really not that difficult. Moving on we decided to ask if anywhere locally served food ‘dunno to be honest’ wasn’t the response we hoped for 🙈 Kids ended up with a KFC and we came back for 7.30 and everything was closed up and in darkness. Quite sad as there was a lot of family’s enjoying the garden but they decided to stop serving drinks at 7.15 on a Friday night in the summer holidays. Pubs are struggling but this is probably why!

Arranged to meet friends with kids for dinner here, knowing that the playground would be a real bonus. Went to order food at 5.50pm only to be told they'd just stopped serving. Website states food is served until 7.30pm. Staff couldn't give me an answer on what time they actually stop, saying 'it varies, sometime between 5 and 6'. So when the kitchen can't be bothered anymore then? Incredibly unhelpful if you're trying to plan a meal out with children! We'd already ordered drinks too, it was just all really frustrating, our friends had got a tram over so we couldn't just drive somewhere else. When I pointed out the website was wrong I was told 'we know', and that was it. Can nobody update the website with the correct information?!

Went to Jackson’s boat for a birthday lunch for my sister… staff went above and beyond for us especially the assistant manager Sarah! A few of us couldn’t decided on what we wanted and she gave us her recommendations and we couldn’t have picked a better choice! All our food came piping hot and beautifully made We couldn’t have enjoyed a better lunch out,thank you Sarah and the staff at Jackson’s boat you made us feel really welcome we will defiantly be back soon!

I’m not the sort of person to do reviews, however in this situation I have felt the absolute need to. On Saturday 29th July me and my husband travelled from Yorkshire in our camper van and decided to park at Jackson’s Boat over night. On Sunday 30th July we decided to pop in for a bite to eat and a quick drink. We noticed a birthday on in the conservatory area so we decided to sit on the tall tables by the side of the bar. This table was disgusting to all the staff, saying awful things about the venue, the food and the staff. We started to feel very uncomfortable with the foul language coming from these individuals. One of the staff had taken one of the party to the side I’m unsure on what was said but the lady then shouted to the rest of the party that they was being kicked out. From then the 15-20 of them started screaming and shouting. They refused to pay and was bullying the staff members. All the workers stayed calm and professional whilst being bombarded with foul language and aggression. After this party had left they quickly cleaned up and was back to service as normal with smiles on their faces. 5 stars to all the staff working on this day for handling such a bad situation the way they did. The venue is beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff are brilliant. I hope they are not disheartened by individuals who try to bully their way into free meals and thrive off bullying hard workers.

Went here yesterday to celebrate a 30th birthday. Although the food had been preordered, we were told there were no nachos that a few people had ordered. The mushroom starters came out really cold and some were sent back. Nobody came out with fresh starters for those that had sent theirs back. Next, the mains arrived. The staff came over with three ‘medium’ steaks which were more well done than a piece of chicken should be! The gammon was cold. The waiter came over and asked if the mains were ok to which my friend said hers was cold and her response was “so you aren’t going to eat it then?” And she just stormed off. Very young staff who have no idea what they are doing or how to handle these situations. Just laughing and clearly thought it was all a funny story to tell later on at guides. This is hardly surprising give the sign outside asking for staff and no experience necessary. The ‘assistant manager’, Sarah is unbelievable. She is so rude and clearly does not know how to manage and can’t handle criticism on any level. She came over to the party organiser, who was mid conversation with someone else and physically tapped her on the back asking for a word. That was when we were told to pay up and leave. Sarah was shouting at us and was overall a disgrace. She should actually be ashamed of her behaviour. What a role model to the inexperienced staff they’ve got. Ellie-Mae on the other hand was fantastic with the group and was the only one in there that actually held any professionalism. Well done Ellie-Mae! Upon leaving the pub, another family were complaining about the food they had received and a group of 4 in the car park decided not to bother even sitting down after hearing about our experience and then going on to see another family complaining.

After what started out as lovely experience turned out awful, along with the assistance manager, Sarah attitude. Food ordered few days in advance only be told when ready to bring out starters that some starters were not an available. Starters came out cold sent them back then had to ask how long they would be, staters came back still not right. I had to ask for Sarah asst manager as she was no where to be seen not even to apologise about not having our original order or about the starters being cold all I got back was “I was told you didn’t wanted them ( wrong information received) Kitchen had people names and what they order but when brining out didn’t know who was having what. Totally disorganised and obviously Asst manager not managing and doing her job. Didn’t try to sort it out but only made things worse. Conversation between family members taken back to management and out of context, once explained it wasn’t at the staff, it still wasn’t enough. Basically Clearly from us complaining Sarah didn’t like it and escalated her version to her Manager. We were asked to pay and leave not getting our desserts I was not happy that they waited till we had the mains but this came from higher management due to the information they were given by Sarah wrong information. I have Spoken to the higher management who was absolutely lovely and gave her my experience.

Worst experience I have ever had! Booked weeks in advance for a 30th for a group of 20 people, sent over pre order list of food 4 days before. Arrived, everything was set up lovely, we had a lovely section, decorated beautifully. Starters were about to be served only to be told there we no nachos, baring in mind we had already been there half an hour and there was no mention of this before hand. 4 of the garlic mushroom starters we cold, they were taken away in the hope of getting fresh hot ones, to be told ‘oh I thought you didn’t want anymore’. This had then put people off wanting anything else. We were obviously getting frustrated at how this was being handled. Ellie-may was great and trying her best to sort the situation out, very apologetic. Then it was time for our mains, the steaks were not cooked how they had been asked, the gammon was cold and dry. The assistant manager Sarah was very rude and clearly didn’t like the fact there was complaints. She was very confrontational and almost like she was looking for an argument. Instead of diffusing the situation she made it worse. Her attitude as an assistant manager was disgraceful. As soon as we finished our mains she basically told us we were not being served anymore and we had to leave. Sarah should not be an assistant manager or even work there at all her service and attitude is terrible.

First and last time I will ever go here. We were there to celebrate a 30th birthday party as there were 21 of us All food had been preordered on the Thursday before todays visit (Sunday ) so they knew exactly what we wanted. When we got there we were told that they had run out of nachos some of our group of 21 had ordered. No apology nothing. The assistant manager told our group organiser that she was off yesterday so didn’t know they had run out. Not sure why she didn’t think to check this out and let us know before we arrived so we could have chosen ahead of arriving or better still made sure they hadn’t sold out. Eventually the starters arrived stone cold ! Some of the group ate them cold and some complained. The waitress took them back but never brought out fresh ones. So they were left with nothing. An hour later out come the mains. Most of our group didn’t eat them as they were cold and awful. Again some of the group complained but mainly to each other rather than the staff as we felt there was little point as they were not going to do anything about it anyway. Some of the staff must have over heard and told the kitchen staff and the assistant manager that we were not enjoying the food. The fact that most of the food went back to the kitchen must have made this plainly obvious to them. We all said let’s hope the desserts are nice and we can finish on a high. We couldn’t believe it when they refused to serve us our desserts. The assistant manager told us all to pay up and leave. Never have I ever seen so much confrontation from an assistant manager towards customers. It was truly shocking. She was arrogant and border line bully towards us in front of other customers. It was embarrassing to say the least. The assistant manager Sarah is running this place into the ground. I’ve just read other reviews on here who seem to have Also experienced rudeness from her and some staff. I could see one member of staff who felt clearly embarrassed by how we were treated. The owner of this place needs to act fast to avoid more negative reviews spreading like wild fire. I will be telling everyone to avoid this place and to take their custom elsewhere !

Decent hot food... pub grub... but enough to keep your sustained after one of the lovely walks nearby without breaking the bank. Main courses not cheap but show me somewhere cheap these days. Lovely service with a smile and nicely kept cask ale.

Kitchen is open from 12-3pm then you only have a choice of soup and sandwich, the ale tastes sour, last orders is at 5pm, so overall the pub opens from 12-5. Cant call this a business seems to be run for a hobby
