After visiting Captain Jack's in 2023, we were not disappointed on our return visit! The pub decor is great with a good amount of space indoors and outside, the beer is good and the food tasty! Staff are friendly and make tourists feel welcome! A great visit for either lunch or an evening meal!

Unfortunately had a terrible experience here. Ordered food at the bar (world food special), was told 45 minute wait so paid for food and ordered a pint while we waited. 45 minutes later, was told they’d run out of food. Got a refund and apology but left very hungry with no alternative options as everywhere else closed by now. Cannot understand how an establishment could not know they didn’t have enough food. Won’t revisit sadly, as it looks like it could have been a nice place.

This is the first time we have come across Captain Jacks in all the years coming to Woolacombe. What can i say what a beautiful Pub the garden was a lush sun trap and loads of seating. The staff were very friendly from the first moment we arrived. They even loved our bulldog Elsa Dog treats behind the bar and plenty of dog bowls to go round. We were only down for a weekend but went in a few times our sort of pub where we could just relax. Good food menu on offer as well. High recommend giving it a visit.

We used Trip advisor to find a restaurant in Woolcombe and this one looked ideal for 3 of us plus 2yr old... so we managed to park on the road next to it and walked in... We liked the look and the signage outside... Anyway went in main area and walked towards bar and saw some tables to sit and eat at... just as we`re about to sit down the lady at the bar told us there was no food being served tonight, (no reason why and my gut is wasn`t interested and wanted us out of there).. so we all turned around and did "the walk of shame" past the locals... I can appreciate they may have had an issue that night, but was not impressed by the bar lady who just seemed to not be bothered and said nothing but we`re not serving tonight (think she even looked up for more than 2 seconds)..... we checked the website which says it served food and facebook site before and no mention of an issue... not sure what happened but not family friend that night... Shame really as pub looked okay to us

We loved this pub, have been during the summer and it was packed and we can see why. So much atmosphere. Our young kids loved the pirate element and there was lots of comfortable seating and space for them to play out in the back bar.

Nice Saturday lunch in Captain Jacks. I had the Garden Vegan Burger and my wife had the Falafel Salad. Drinks were good, the pub had a nice atmosphere and service was great - we asked for some olives in the salad and they were kindly provided. The specials looked good but as we were walking back to Croyde we just fancied a light bite.

Had lunch with friends here and found the food to be of high quality and a reasonable price to for the area. Allergen information is well listed on the menu and the chef was happy to change my friends ordered dish to accommodate her. Wasn't a really warm day so we sat inside. which was a shame because the outdoor area looks very good. Pub is atmospheric and they let us use the pool table for free. Overall enjoyed and the only slight negative was the place was showing signs of general wear and tear. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

A group of friends and I were having drinks in the beer garden so decided to stay for food (our first time under the changed management/ ownership). The staff are always very friendly and welcoming, and this visit was no different. All food was ordered at the same time but split into two to pay, unfortunately another table was served between our two tickets so some of our table were halfway through their food when the second set of meals arrived. The food was good - a few little items could have been better however, overall it was a good meal. One person had hunters chicken which was tasty but due to the chicken being butterflied it was slightly over cooked/ dry but was still edible and had good flavour. The only other thing that springs to mind is that the bottom of the soft boa rolls were hard and couldn’t be eaten. Overall, a nice meal and would definitely eat there again.

There is no service down in this place, also not very kid friendly , but as I’m here let me get to the main issue the food was disgusting especially their so called “Mac and cheese” it didn’t taste like cheese at all, very very watery and no flavour , the prices for the portion sizes are an absolute ridiculous. My daughter didn’t even touch her whole meal and when I asked to speak to the manager about a refund as we had already paid a stupid amount for all the food all he had to say was “no t’s not our fault you don’t like it”, no one came over once to check how any of our food was or to clear all the plates, this place needs to clearly hire more staff and learn more about customer service and how to be professional! We will never be wasting our time on this place again. We was definitely better off eating at the chippy next door.

Visited Woolacombe earlier this month (November 2022). Understandably, lots of eateries were closed for the winter but we were thrilled to find Captain Jack's open and serving food on a dark and dreary Tuesday evening. The food was tasty (I had the generously-portioned falafel salad) and the staff were lovely. If you like nautical decor, you are in for a treat! They don't serve food every night off-season so do check in advance. Even if more places were open, I would still recommend Captain Jack's.

Disappointed by the food and not helped by the locals.Only serving burgers which at the prices I would expect to be home-cooked but instead where poor quality over salty pre-bought burgers. Considering it wasn't busy it still took quite a while for the food to be served.Locals also use the pubs and not the sort that should be allowed in family pubs. Constantly shouting and swearing (the 'C' word being their favourite), whilst one member of staff was ignoring and even engaging in conversation with them another kept asking them to be quiet and making un-intentioned threats to kick them out.

We went there on Saturday evening, 3 adults and a 4 year old, for some dinner as the other restaurants were all busy and had no tables. We sat in the garden and I went inside to get the drinks and menus. I ordered our drinks and went to get some menus, the only menu they had had burgers only. I asked if they had another menu but was told that's the only one for the weekend.I love burgers but not everyone in our party does but we went ahead and ordered 4 adult burgers with sides and a kids meal for £68, whihc is pretty steep for a burger and chips! After waiting an hour, my wife went in and asked how long our food would be, she was told that there were 2 orders in front of us, then they would start on ours. So after an hour, they hadn't even started cooking our order.I assumed that they were only offering burgers either because it was their speciality or they were cooking them all in large batches to speed up the process on a busy bank holiday weekend. I realised after waiting over an hour that it was nether of these.I would go here for a drink and sit in the garden but would never order food here, it takes too long and the choice is very limited. The staff were very apologetic, I imagine they were doing the best they could with limited staff or resources.

"No, just turn up", I was told.Got there about 7:15, got a round of drinks & asked if I should order food at the bar. Was told there was a 15 minute wait as the kitchen was "running behind". Fair enough, although it was a Saturday evening in the summer holidays. It became cold outside, so we sat at a table inside. The restaurant was half-empty, other than a child's birthday party at the next table.I went to place a food order. The gentleman behind the bar had to disappear for a moment. When he came back, he told me it was too busy and they weren't taking any more food orders for the evening. Really!? It was 7:15 on a Saturday night in the summer holidays! Several times post surfing at Putsburough Beach and a few times for lunch.Good selection of Devonshire Ales and other beers/largers.Family friendly with plenty of room and a great beer garden in the central area.Parts of the building are quite old - oldest in Woolacombe apparently. Its decorated in nautical style of 17th or 18th century which is quite fun. There is also a pool table and darts - probably other games too.The food has always been fairly good - just the usual pub type stuff and it arrives promptly although there is a fair selection.Staff are very friendly and attentive to your needs. If you have been at the beach in Woolacombe or just mooching about the shops i would say its worth dropping in for lunch with friends or family.

This place was not what I expected at all. Looks like a nautically themed bog standard pub from the marketing and the outside, and even the inside to be fair! But the food...the food is far from big standard. Menu is varied but not extensive. It certainly does not feature a pub classics section which for some will not appeal but stands it apart from the crowd for me. I had the fish and chips and my partner had seafood spaghetti. Both were beautifully cooked and very tasty. Even the garlic bread we ordered as a side was divine! It really wasn’t what we expected and if we had decided to visit before our last day of the holiday we certainly would have been back for more. Only criticism I have is range of ales on tap is limited which was a shame for an ale lover. Ignore the decor and go get yourself some very tasty grub!

Captain Jack's is quite a large place just off the beachfront. It has a traditional old fashioned pub, a modern restaurant, and quite a large outdoor courtyard. We ate at Captain Jack's after being refused food elsewhere in Woolacombe when the kitchen closed earlier than expected. The staff at Captain Jack's were really honest when we arrived that there would be a 40 minute wait for food as they were quite busy. However, the wait was worth it. The kids meals were really substantial and excellent quality. The adult main courses (Cajun chicken fajitas, sea bass special, fish and chips), were all large portions and really good quality. It ended up being a late night, but would definitely come here again. Food and service was very good.

Top tip - don’t expect to rock up & get a table - you will need to book.

8 Adults, 3 children, 1 baby (high chair available) and a very well behaved dog. 1st visit to this pub /restaurant which has a good atmosphere. A varied selection of meals available, including children’s meals, which were well cooked and large portions. Good, friendly service from all the waiting staff.Only drawback was having to get your own drinks from the bar. A great meal and evening was had by all.

Nice bar, been here many times, first time eating in the restaurant section. Unfortunately the food was mediocre at best and expensive. Service very slow. Staff were friendly but definitely would not return to eat. Dog friendly which is always a positive.

Scones mediocre , buttered only one 1/2 of a toasted tea cake. Scones came out 10 mins later we still had to ask for the tea that went with it. Weak teabags used. Chaotic staff not a good experience at all.

Came here with my friend for a celebration meal, the service was alright and so was the food. The place looked very run down and old but the food came quickly. Overall an alright experience.

Having been let down by a couple of other restaurants in the area we came across Captain Jacks. From the outside it looked like a small bar, once inside it opened up in to a descent size pub/restaurant.The beer was good with a reasonable wine choice but only served in full size or 1/4 bottles. Nice mix and size of menu. Had the sharing platter which was huge. Then the wife had the vegi curry and I had the mussels. Both fantastic. We will be back.

We had not booked , and on arrival the restaurant was full, however we were able to order and eat in the bar. Having placed our order and got some drinks, a staff member came to inform us she had prepared a table for us now in the restaurant, so we moved there. The kids meals were excellent, good portions , quality ingredients, and good portion sizes. My wife had the vegetable curry and cleaned the plate. I had the steak, which was ok, and well presented. I would be more likely to try a burger next time I am back, or some fish. Staff were excellent and it had comfortable surroundings.

This pub looks themed and potentially naff but the restaurant at the back is really good. We ate until we couldn’t move. The linguini and squid were particular highlights. Complements to the chef. Not five stars because drinks sold separately

I've been coming here since I was a kid, so nice to return.Good menu, and particularly pleasing to see an interesting vegetarian dish on the specials board. I get a bit annoyed when we go to a restaurant and there's nothing for my daughter to eat apart from macaroni cheese of a bowl of cheesy chips.Good service and reasonably priced, but having to walk to the bar to get drinks is a bit strange and a pain in the neck, but not something that will stop us from returning.

Lovely, friendly pub with a garden. Dog friendly. Huge food portions but a little wait when it's busy. Good for a drink and/or food. Enjoyed our recent visits.

We booked here for breakfast before our trip home from a short break. Ignored when we went in, then after asking we were stuck on a table next to the toilet with 2 young children and a dog. Asked about gluten free options and explained this was an intolerance for my daughter not an allergy. Weren’t prepared to help or advise, very uninterested - just continued serving at the till and more or less told us everything could have gluten in. We sat back down and looked at each other and I said to my husband “I’m really not happy here” and he replied “nor am I”. We left and on the way out briefly explained why but were ignored. They didn’t even say bye. Went down the road and discovered Ali @ Adele’s Cafe who were super with us, very accommodating, friendly and great food. Night and day compared to this place.

This is a great place for a coffee or something to eat when waiting for a train or shopping in the area. I meet friends here once a month and have never been disappointed. The full vegetarian breakfast is excellent. Don’t go to Costa, come here instead!

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a friends wedding in a resort 5 minutes walk up the road. When we arrived it was very busy with people eating in the pub/restaurant and there was no parking. Staff advised they had saved us a space and we moved the cones and got parked. Quickly checked in and shown to our room. The room was spacious and clean. Large bed with 2 single duvets, my only grumble was it was not great sleeping under 2 single duvets on the double bed. We asked staff about getting to the bed behind the hotel and booked a table for dinner bit later, they were really helpful. 20 minute walk up a very steep hill behind the hotel and down a steep cliff path, we were on the most stunning beach, we had a swim! We had the local rump steak and chips for dinner that night and it was delicious. Breakfast both mornings was included and was very nice indeed. Would recommend the food here. We enjoyed our stay here and very good location for attending our friends wedding at Watermouth Cove.

Lovely atmosphere and great customer service. All the staff were friendly, polite and attentive. Tables were cleared and cleaned promptly and everywhere was clean. Very nice coffee and delicious Crunchie milkshake - just wish I lived closer to go back and sample the other flavours and try the food.
