Oh my where do I begin! I would avoid this place at all costs! Guy behind the bar was rude not very welcoming at all.. the beer dribbled out the pumps .. coke from a can which was warm no ice.. seating uncomfortable, dust everywhere, we waited 30 mins for our food for it to be overcooked.. and a couple who arrived after us got their food before us.. there was people on another table who didn't finish their food and couldn't leave the pub quick enough either .. says it all ...

Stopped for lunch. We were the only people in there. Attempted conversation with the couple running the pub but they were not very forthcoming. The pub was in silence, a little background music might have warmed the atmosphere. Food was ok, pub grub. Would be wary of returning. We didn't exactly feel welcomed.

Stopped for lunch in this old worldy pub on the way to Woolacombe. The food was good with big portions (3 big sausages on my Sausage egg and chips) at reasonable prices. The only complaint was the seating wasn't very comfortable.

Wonderful old world pub. Popped in towards closing time on a Monday lunch time and had a nice welcome and really lovely food. Would definitely go again if we were in the vicinity.

Needing a reviver half through the day and halfway through our journey we came across this wonderful, quaint, pub. A postcard type of pub, very British. Perfect, we thought. However this is where the positives end. One thing that came across was it was so unwelcoming. Maybe that’s why we were the only two in. A couple of drinks and I went to pay by card, which has become the norm with Covid rearing it’s ugly head, but was told we don’t take cards under a tenner. So, we ordered a couple of sandwiches. That request went down like a lead balloon. Actually, not going any further with this review as this is a pub I need to put into the back of my mind.

Stumbled across this place driving down to North Devon. Stopped for lunch. Absolutely incredible. The lunch menu has something to suit every taste and prices are very reasonable. The ham egg and chips were perfect with hand carved ham (really thick slices) and served piping hot. The building itself was deemed to be about 16th century with all original features including a log fire and thatch bar cover. Highly recommend trying here. We will be back every chance we get

Food was great particularly the vegetarian tart which was homemade and delicious. The couple who run the pub were friendly and we had a good evening chatting to them and another couple. The pub is very old fashioned no music, TV or slot machines which we both loved, full of charm and definitely worth visiting.

Mine hosts Sheila and John are a lovely couple running this very quaint pub off the the main road. The food is really great, and ample with it. We are going back again on 3rd October and looking forward to the visit. Mark & Barbara.

I was hungry and wanted some home cooked food and saw the pub advertised off the main road. It is a quaint rustic pub with an open fire to warm us up. Coffee was only instant but the food was excellent and tasty. I would definitely go back.

This is a VERY old fashioned pub, no music, old furniture and a husband and wife team. We went with family, 3 generations and 2 dogs. We had a friendly greeting and the dogs were given treats. We had lasagne, steak and ale pie x 2, chicken curry and fish and chips. This was followed by ice cream sundaes and sticky toffee pudding. Everything was delicious and very generous portions. We waddled back to our holiday accommodation very full and very satisfied. I would definitely recommend, but you have to accept the character, it’s not a gastro pub.

If you are ever heading for Barnstable on the A361 from J27 of the M5 and need somewhere where you are guaranteed a warm welcome, fantastic no nonsense food and a great pot of tea then The Mill Inn is your place. A fairly wide choice of light snacks to more filling meals are available all freshly prepared and cooked - and they come to your table hot! The tea is refreshing and we were even asked if we would like to read the newspaper whilst we waited for our snack lunch- how friendly. This was our second visit and the same pleasant welcome was forthcoming- last time I had the Lamb Shank with red wine sauce and have to say the best I have ever had- the meat just fell off the bone.Today we just had Panini’s each as a light bite and fresh, wholesome and filling.Definitely now a firm stop off point for us- thanks

A flying visit - excellent generously-filled baguettes and attentive service. Lovely open fire. Nice contrast to the Stag nearby, which was undergoing extensive works .

We were on our way down to Cornwall, and missed the turn for a pub we had planned on our root. saw a sign a bit further on and though why not. My wife phoned up and asked the two questions we always ask. Do you serve food and do you let dogs inn. The answer was yes and yes. We pulled up in our motor home, and the landlord came out to greet us and show us where to park. This pub is small but wow. It was like pubs were in the 70s. Chicken and chips in a basket! when did you last see that retro dish. As it was lunch we went for the bacon and cheese baguette. Great to taste real bacon and great cheese. You would never know this pub was here, but if you see the sign like we did pop in. The pub has been in the family for I think a 100 years, looking at the photos on the wall. I do hope this pub is still there in a 100 years too, though sadly I will not.

Rather unsuspecting pub by the side of the road, dropped in with our 2 young daughters on the way home from a holiday in the local area. Lovely locals to chat to and very good food. I had the lasagne which I shared with my 5yr old, it was a fight over the crumbs. Hubby had the lamb which was delicious. Very lovely stop on our long journey.

After a long day house hunting we could not wait until we got home so we stopped here and so glad we did. The pub was cosy, warm and the food was nice. I had Ham, Egg and Chips and at first I thought I would not eat them as I prefer chunky chips, but they were great as was the Ham. Lovely and fresh. The added bonus was two lovely collie dogs. Guinness and Sparky. Dessert was blast from the past, Banana Split, lovely. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Plus the owners took time to chat which was nice too.

My wife and I passed here on our way down to Bude, we were in too much of a hurry the evening we passed but we got here on the way back and can't fault the food. Upon the recommendation of our server my wife had the lamb shank (which she said was delicious!), and I had the vegetable pasta bake. Neither one of us were able to finish the food, we simply can't eat as much as we did when we were younger.

Old fashioned home cooked food. Reasonably priced and everything each of us ordered was good value, hot & tasty. Real fire and a friendly bunch of locals made us feel welcome round the thatched bar. Was a bit dubious after the other trip advisor ratings but we stopped on the off chance in passing and were pleasantly surprised after the negative comments on this site!

Called here for a meal today 14/09/2015. We asked for 3 savory mince pies and a lamb shank. When the meals arrived the pies had no pastry instead the topping was melted cheese. We thought we had been given lasagne by mistake. We were told that no it was a beef pie. The "chef" came out of the kitchen and confirmed cheese pie. On asking where the past was she then said it was a cottage pie. When asked where the mash potatoe was she walked away. To top it off the concoction we were given was cold. Would I recommend this place to anyone? NO.

This lovely little Inn sits just off the A361 before Barnstaple and is very cost and slightly old fashioned (mind the low roof) the staff are friendly and helpful and they have a very good menu, the food is great and they have a good selection of drinks and is eel priced. the decor needs a little updating and parking is limited but very well worth the visit. I would recommend the Lamb Shank, Steak and Ale pie and Cottage Pie are highly recommended.

After visiting Captain Jack's in 2023, we were not disappointed on our return visit! The pub decor is great with a good amount of space indoors and outside, the beer is good and the food tasty! Staff are friendly and make tourists feel welcome! A great visit for either lunch or an evening meal!

This is a great place for a coffee or something to eat when waiting for a train or shopping in the area. I meet friends here once a month and have never been disappointed. The full vegetarian breakfast is excellent. Don’t go to Costa, come here instead!

We booked here for breakfast before our trip home from a short break. Ignored when we went in, then after asking we were stuck on a table next to the toilet with 2 young children and a dog. Asked about gluten free options and explained this was an intolerance for my daughter not an allergy. Weren’t prepared to help or advise, very uninterested - just continued serving at the till and more or less told us everything could have gluten in. We sat back down and looked at each other and I said to my husband “I’m really not happy here” and he replied “nor am I”. We left and on the way out briefly explained why but were ignored. They didn’t even say bye. Went down the road and discovered Ali @ Adele’s Cafe who were super with us, very accommodating, friendly and great food. Night and day compared to this place.

Lovely atmosphere and great customer service. All the staff were friendly, polite and attentive. Tables were cleared and cleaned promptly and everywhere was clean. Very nice coffee and delicious Crunchie milkshake - just wish I lived closer to go back and sample the other flavours and try the food.
