We visited this pub 3 times during our October break at Twitchen House. We ordered food each time as a family of 4, and with friends as a table of 7. Staff were extremely helpful & welcoming. We had 3 Border Collies with us and they brought them a bowl of water. Our food was quickly served and very enjoyable. Good sized portions, presented nicely and tasted good. Nice draught ales too! We will definitely revisit when back in Devon 👍👍👍

We went to this pub for food and drinks when we ordered our drinks we asked if we could put it on a tab as we were going have some food we were told we don’t do tabs when we received our food my daughter had a dead fly in her egg and my sister in law asked for mashed potatoes with her dinner but it came with chips the bar man said he would bring out some mash but by the time they did she had almost finished her dinner they took my daughters dinner away and brought it back about ten minutes later with a fresh egg but her food had been put in the microwave to keep warm and it was all dried up there was no sorry from the waiters at all the young bar man was very unprofessional my brother asked for a sandy they poured him the lemonade in the glass and then gave him the bottled bear and said you can pour that yourself I think the staff need to be trained better and maybe get a new chef if I chef carnt see a dead fly in an egg when he’s dishing it up it doesn’t say much for the chef I would seriously avoid this pub as they food isn’t cheap and the pub as now atmosphere

Visited on a Friday evening. This pub used to be alive but not any more - we visit Morthoe every year. There were only 4 other customers - on a Friday evening which tells you everything. Staff clearly not interested in being there and didn't hide the fact. No care and attention. I ordered a pint of Legend beer and it was terrible. Food overcooked and presented without any care. Two stars is generous. The following night we went to the nearby Chichester and that was great - run like a professional pub. I really hope the owners of The Ship realise they've let it go to rack and ruin. We won't return. Definitely check out The Chichester instead.

We stopped here for lunch after we walked in from Woolacombe. The garden is a great spot to look out to the village and the pub decor is great, quirky in places which is nice to see! The food was standard pub grub, which works for a lunchtime snack following a walk! Cask Ales were nice with an ok selection.

An attractive pub set in the heart of Montecue Village in North Devon Interesting menu and an excellent range of drinks ( gin was being promoted today) Not far from the famous ( appox 650 mile) South West Coast Path Before a Lighthouse was built in the late 1800s many ships were lost on the rugged coastline ,hence the name of the pub.

So very disappointing - the pub decided to stop serving food 25 minutes before advertised. We were already seated and debating our choices but upon approaching the bar to place our order at that point were told they were not taking food orders. We had rung earlier to check the pub was open as the website gave misleading, outdated information and then driven specially to the pub. Would not recommend to any would be visitors. We were not told upon arrival that there were no food orders being taken and the whole experience was below par and very disappointing. The person to whom we tried to give the order was obviously embarrassed and passed us to a colleague to give us the bad news. Very poor customer service!

If I could give more stars I would. We are down from the midlands on holiday not far from the ship aground and saw this pub last year we was here but never went but this time I wasn’t missing out. From the time we got there which was around 8:15 we asked if the kitchen was still open and luckily the young girl checked and said yes. We quickly got a table checked out the menu and ordered asap. Got drinks then waited not too long for the food to arrive which was the best chicken curry I have had for a long time. It came with rice naan and a poppadom and I ordered a side of chips an ice breaker ipa which washed it down nicely. My wife had the steak and ale pie which was great and was all eaten up. My kids had the chicken burger which was lovely and the pepperoni pizza was amazing. Plus kids fish fingers. The staff was excellent the food was excellent and an amazing range of alcohol. Dog friendly the car park is just up the road. Also a fantastic chip shop is opposite.

During our week away. We decided on our last evening we would go for a nice meal out as a family.. 5 adults, a 4 year old & a 9 month baby... this was not the place for a "nice meal". Sat down in the "ship themed" pub, Cool looking, parking was poor but a short walk from a public car park which was FREE due to visiting after 6pm. Entered, Booked a table on the phone prior to arrival (which it appeared they hadn't actually reserved one but luckily we got a nice round table) Ordered drinks which was £27 (1 which was a coke and 1 was a Fruit shoot so slightly pricey!!) Then onto the food menu, Where it went wrong.. Not too much choice on the food menu which was not ideal but we all managed to find something to eat, The specials board had 1 burger on it which had 4x Patties and was over £20... Ordered £81.40 and waited over an hour for it to partially arrive, they brought over the first fish and chips which let's face it isn't a particularly difficult meal to prep. Brings it out... on its own, No tartar sauce they replaced it with Sweet Chilli sauce.. no garden peas changed to mushy peas.. then brought over dish 2... A beef burger which they brought over a VEGGIE burger which we weren't told about and he walked away... Complained after waiting 15 minutes for the other dishes to NOT arrive, He took the dishes back and explained they were out of burger so asked what dish to replace with.. Came back approximately 15 minutes later again, To ask for the petty £2 extra for a dish my sister didn't even want... after waiting for so long and having 2 dishes brought out which we didn't order we decided to ask for our money back and leave... by this time my 4 year old was ravenous and the baby was unsettled due to approaching the soon bed time... No argument for the refund but the clueless bar staff didn't know how to issue it on the till point.. Phoned a manager for the pin, whilst waiting for this HALF OF THE MEALS ARRIVED.. TOM then States to the manager he has no idea why we wanted a refund and stated it was all going OK 20 minutes prior, He was rude, Obnoxious and has poor customer service skills Claims I was "kicking off" because my hand slapped on the bar in frustration whilst I was stood with my 9 mouth baby and a 4 year old who was very hungry.. Argument about the refund and them taking soo long occurred and the bar staff with his curly hair starts to threaten to NOT REFUND ME... Eventually got the refund issued by the younger chap and the curly haired guy goes around to the bar to start slandering us to other punters... absolutely disgusting service, Instead of pirate themed they should try a clown theme, it may me more fitting!!!!!! #AvoidAtAllCosts

So on the 21st of March we booked a table for 4 Adults at 14.00hrs on Sunday 31st of March we travelled down for the weekend to stay at Damage Barton Mortehoe, I am due a Hip replacement so on the Saturday booked a taxi for 13.30hrs Sunday to take myself down whilst my wife and our friends were going to walk the 30 mins down into the village, at 13.00hrs on Sunday ( 1 hour before the booking ) I got a call from the Ship Aground telling me that there had been a mistake and my booking should have not been taken so they would not honour it, when I questioned what I was being told the Guy laughed and said, "well you can come and see if there is a table free if you like we may not be busy then". They obviously had a lot of walk ins and didn't want us there. Unfortunately for them we like to spend a few Bob if the Atmosphere is good but we didn't get that far,

I've been coming to Mortehoe & Woolacombe for 30 years or more. Not much changes to the eye, but pub food and staff do. Years ago I found The Ship Aground a little quite and lacking in atmosphere but good food and staff were the Chichester Arms had it all. But over the years, specially since Covid. We tried the Chichester Arms and sadly it has lost a lot, the staff were nice. But The Ship Aground has recovered the best. The food was excellent as always and plentiful with a warm and inviting atmosphere which aloud dogs in any part of the pub with excellent staff. Joe was at the bar. He was very courteous and professional with a good interaction with all customers not just me, as we're all staff in the several time, perhaps to many time we spent there on our holiday. The Sunday carvery was unbelievable, very tasty and filling. The ploughman's excellent. The chilli loverly and you won't leave hungry, and all good on the pocket. If you have the weather and sit outside the vistas are pleasant on the eye aswell. I would highly recommend a visit. With a ten out of ten from me.

After stopping in the Mortehoe car park, the pub was the first we came to. The menu looked varied, so chose a curry, grill and a vegetarian chilli. All had ample portions. As it was so nice, we drove there again for a Sunday Carvery, which was excellent. The room upstairs is a lovely area to dine. A good range of drinks, so would definitely visit again.

Ordered a meal for 3 people , 2 arrived , 1 didn't !!!! when questioned 10 mins later still no sign , wasn't the bar staff fault it was the kitchen couldn't cope . Not as though it was busy , this was at 6.00pm It never arrived after 30 mins and asking repeatedly. Demanded a refund , so disappointing.

We booked a table of 11 here whilst on a large group holiday. The food was delivered to our table piping hot, all together and without a single mistake despite the large order. All of the food was amazing home cooked quality. We were all very impressed. It’s shame we go home tomorrow otherwise we would have gone back! Beer was excellently kept as well. Well done all

Awful Prawn Cocktail, negative staff. If you want a better meal along with cheerier service, go next door. The Ship is Wrecked.

Not the best, staff couldn't give a toss, food not great. If you have walked up or gone round the cliffs to get to Mortehoe pop in for a drink, I'd give the food a miss. And deffo wouldn't get the car out to make a special journey to the ship.

The ship aground offers great friendly and helpful service, amazing food, complements to the chef and at reasonable prices I couldn't fault the service and the staff were out of this world! Never a dull moment with lovely conversations. The ever returning Edwards/Richards family 5 nights in a row We wish you all the best in your business :)

Great service and great food. The staff were super friendly and also pet friendly too. They made sure my dog had water and gave him treats. The food was really good and we had a generous portion too. I would definitely recommend a visit. We sat outside and there was plenty of room but the staff didn’t forget about us and checked we were all ok…including the dog 😊

I stayed in Lynmouth for 3 days recently and this lovely traditional pub was one of my 'locals' for the duration. A terrific atmosphere on the Thursday as it seemed all the World and his Wife were in. Great selection of ales and ciders. I ate here earlier, fish n chips, which were excellent. A great pub in Lynmouth.
