Food was fantastic and service was friendly and professional. Made a family gathering extra special. Definitely worth the journey to get here.

Wir waren zwei Nächte im Jack Russell Inn. Ein ganz tolles Hotel mit einer fantastischen Lage. Das Essen im Pub war sehr lecker, an einem der beiden Abende war Summer Fete mit Live-Musik und Barbecue, wirklich toll! Der Service im Pub und beim Frühstück war etwas lahm. Aber den Abstrich machen wir gerne und würden das Hotel jedem empfehlen! Vor allem mit Hund!

The roast could be better, lamb not tender as I would expect. Description indicates slow roast. However the service is very good by all in particular the young Max the photographer, great personality and very attentive.

Good overall and gave us a table away from rush and busy area. But we are vegan, and had seen good options on website, but were NOT offered vegan menu, until husband and I ordered the only choice that was vegan on main menu. We didn't end up having that once vegan menu offered. Food then good but not excellent. Overall good, but could be a bit tastier and better service.

We chose this inn last minute as our previous hotel in Portsmouth was a nightmare and the Jack Russell was near Highclere. What a fantastic place! Beautiful decor, amazing bed, great shower, and stunning views. We ate dinner and breakfast and loved both. Worth every penny!

Despite ordering slow roast belly pork I was served a pork rib which had been overcooked served without potatoes and only one green together with an oil soaked flat price of potato which I assume was meant to be a rosti. Meal totally misdiscribed on the menu. Whilst the meal was comped it has left a bad taste and a serious question mark about future offerings. Whether we go back or not is questionable it was embarrassing in front of guests from South Africa

A very special place! We've just returned from a wonderful stay with our whippet. The staff were lovely, the decor so imaginative and beautiful, the gardens stunning, and the restaurant perfect... Fresh, creative menu with good range of choices but not too many - all clearly prepared with care and attention. The attention to detail in every aspect of our stay and dining experience was noticeable. Although Fully Dog Friendly (which was such a pleasure!), The Jack Russell is beautiful, clean, and one of the quietest places I've stayed - absolutely perfect for a restorative break with our four legged little one! We were in The Dog House, which is beautifully equipped and very tastefully decorated. On one of the hottest nights of the year it was somewhat stuffy, but we used the fan provided, and the heat in the room didn't spoil our stay, which as a very memorable break in a lovely part of the country for a break... We'd love to return.

I like the Jack Russell - it try’s hard to do well and appreciated. Nice for a base to walk from too on an autumnal day. This visit was with friends to celebrate an anniversary Fish Friday had some good choice and tasty enough. Chips and grilled potato’s a bit pathetic in numbers - fish was solid. Nice batter too The crumpet starter, popular though it may be, wasn’t great. Couldn’t work that out at all though admittedly an adventurous effort Disappointed with the cheese - ordered three types and the sharing portion was verging on pathetic - please do better here Jack Russel Team. Paying 12 quid for three bits of cheese it was poor quantity wise. Beer good. Wine decent quality but verging pricey In short you won’t get a bad meal at the JR. solid choice, nice staff and good drinks. Temper this against unnecessary penny pinching - spuds aren’t expensive nor a reasonable size piece of cheese and a few more crackers - the pub is in the middle of nowhere and the bill for four still £238.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel and were absolutely blown away by it. A really warm welcome, a superb room with incredibly tasteful and expensive decor and fittings, a lovely warm pub downstairs, a great restaurant with superb food at reasonable prices... all in a tremendous rural setting. Breakfast was first class. We booked it unseen, but will definitely return - it was really special. Oh, it's dog friendly too.

I had a fantastic experience at the Jack Russell last weekend; we stayed saturday night and enjoyed dinner and breakfast: - The pub is beautifully situated with lovely walks and views on the doorstep. Newbury is also only 15 minutes away so it would be perfect to visit. - The food is of an exceptionally high standard. Fantastic menu choice - the steak and pie were both great and breakfast on Sunday was delicious. All of this is very reasonably priced. - Brilliant wine list with some gems it is very unusual to see in a rural pub. You can drink anything from reasonably priced wines to bucket list clarets at very keen prices. We also enjoyed cocktails which were faultless. - The service was a standout - friendly and attentive staff who make you feel very much at home. Overall, a 'weekend in a country pub' experience doesn't get better than this and I will be returning in due course.

A brilliant experience in a beautiful part of the country. Good walking area. We stayed in the Greyhound bed room. Spacious well equipped and lovely decor. The shower is superb. The bed extremely comfortable. The room overlooks sheep paddocks. A very peaceful nights sleep. Dinner and breakfast were first class suitable meals for the style of country inn All well presented and a good standard of cooking. Cocktails from the bar well made. Easy parking a bonus. Exceptional staff extremely helpful. We would definitely like to return sometime !

We stayed here for my husband’s birthday. The accommodation is amazing. Huge rooms with everything you need. Large fluffy towels, really comfy bed with perfect pillows (a must for me!). Tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk. Mini bar. We ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal of chateaubriand, served with salad, chips and sauces. Breakfast the next day was again very good with all your usuals. Dogs are welcome but it was a bit off putting to have so many in the restaurant.

Lots of good say about this place. A country pub that has had an extensive fit out. Really well thought through. Lovely rooms with good shower. Really comfy bed. Restaurant and bar both very good. Food is particularly good. Breakfast likewise. On this occasion I stayed in the room in the main building as opposed to the stables/annex. It’s a bit noisy here and there with pots and pans in the kitchen and staff doing stuff. Not terrible but there. I would opt for the annex next time. The really annoying thing is despite comfy bed etc there was a green fire alarm light right above my head. I woke at 2am and could not get back to sleep. It was like being in a solarium. I will bring an eye mask next time.

Chose this pub on the basis of it being dog friendly and having good food. We weren’t disappointed. Dog bowls accessible for the furry friends along with dog treats. Love the decor and the ambience, the fire was being lit just as we were leaving but could’ve sat there happily all afternoon. Very friendly service and possibly the best burger I have ever eaten. Really delicious.

We came in early December for mine and my boyfriend’s anniversary. We were served at the bar by Stefan who was very friendly and welcoming. We were seated and served my Merina who was very attentive and kind throughout our meal. The food was lovely! I had the skewers and the duck which was both amazing! We declined deserts because we were so full and the team put together a really nice anniversary plate which was such a lovely thought!! Just returned from a 2 night stay at this beautiful hotel. We stayed over New Years Eve, with our dog. The hotel itself was stunning. Set in the middle of nowhere with the most amazing grounds. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The room was probably the most beautiful room of any hotel I’ve stayed in. It was very spacious and exquisitely decorated. We had a small balcony with the most amazing views. The bathroom had a gorgeous rolled top bath tub. The amenities in the room were excellent including a nespresso coffee machine. The food was excellent both breakfast and dinner. So much choice. This is a very dog friendly hotel and restaurant, dogs are allowed in all areas, which was great for us. We will definitely be returning.

Me and my mum had a meal from the set Christmas menu on the 20th December. We've loved coming to the pub for years especially since the fantastic renovation. As always, the setting and service was second to none. My vegetarian meal was very nice and I have no complaints however, my mum had the turkey dinner and was a little disappointed. The meat and stuffing seemed somewhat processed and not the quality that we'd expected. We had a lovely evening but felt the food lacked which is unusual for the Jack Russell.

It was my first time to the Jack Russell and really happy with the whole experience. Excellent choices for someone that needs to be Gluten free, attentive service and delicious food. A thoroughly delightful lunch.

Always a lovely visit, with the atmosphere boosted by a pre-Christmas buzz and two tables of nearby guests who shared a few funny, chatty comments (about nothing in particular) that made the evening go with a swing. Service good. Food a little bit disappointing; one dish, in particular, was less distinctive in its flavour than would normally be the case. It's not inexpensive - but, after a year of soaring prices, that's hardly a surprise. We'll certainly go again.

A really great restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. Good menu options and generally, staff were attentive and friendly. Only disappointment was a group of 8 came in and didn't like the table they were given. One of the group obviously knew the manager (although not working that night) so we were told we had to move to make way for them. Not asked if we minded moving, told to move. I was left having to move our drinks on to the other table while the staff ran around making sure the other group were happy..... So definitely worth a visit if you know the staff.... If not, pot luck I am afraid. A real shame as such a great place and lovely food and this behaviour by the staff seemed out of character.

We booked to stay here and dinned in the restaurant. What a fabulous place. A beautiful building set in a picturesque hamlet. A stylish contemporary place with wood floors and open fires. Friendly bar serving locally produced drinks alongside usual brands. We had a gorgeous bedroom. Very high spec with large comfy bed, all amenities, luxurious bathroom. We were really pleased And then We had dinner- wow! Food and wine was delicious. Husband had steak- which he had everywhere- and said this is one of the best cooked ever.

The starter was less than good, but the main course was worse. The two of us ordered the burger and chips. Not a difficult meal, we had this as they had run out of their pies. The burger meals arrived and looked great, but when bit into, the burgers were cold! The chips were ‘very well cooked’, almost burnt in fact, and like the burgers, they were also cold and when cut into they were hollow! I can only assume they had been made, left and forgotten about because we had waited a while and one table that arrived after us were served with their food first! When I complained the meal was taken away and the waiter eventually came back she asked me if I wanted the chef to make another meal? I was as you can imagine confused. And of course I wanted a new meal! Not really sure what I was expected to say….maybe reheat the burgers? Not sure, anyhow I agreed it might be a good idea to have a new meal. The chips also went back. My dinner date decided to eat the meal as they were very hungry but still left the chips and did not want to wait. My remade meal eventually arrived, the burger was good but the chips still not so. When the not so empty plates were taken away I was surprised they did not comment about why we left our chips. We realise the staff were very busy with a big party but this is still not an excuse for poor food. We decided against having a dessert although it was what we would normally finish off with along with a cup of coffee! We had been there for two hours by that time. When it came to the bill, no apology was forthcoming or consideration was made about the cold burgers or appalling chips. The Jack Russel is in lovely location and being very popular the car park that can be a bit challenging. We were very lucky to get into a space that was vacated just as we arrived. We had booked a table which was located in the quiet area with a carpeted floor which was great for us. The pub area can be very noisy with hard floors, but has ‘booths’ help those with hearing difficulties. We have been before and we’re very happy with the food and service, but this was one of days when they may have lost a customer. We will think twice before returning. There are a lot of local alternatives which we will be exploring.

Last minute booking for dinner out with my partner. Great selection of drinks and food was absolutely amazing (quality and quantity) as was the service! Will be back again for sure!

It was with great joy my wife & I , with old friends, revisited the "jack" after some thirty years when we ran" the old jack" for the estate. We were introduced to Chris who we believe is the assistant manager. He very kindly gave a VIP tour showing us the huge refurb and transition of the pub .We even had a tour of the kitchens and met the chefs. It was a joy to meet with old friends and see what they have achieved. We wish you all greater success in the future. Thank you so much for you kindness and time.

We found this outstanding pub whilst walking another section of The Brenda Parker Way from Highclere to Faccombe and back to Highclere. We stopped for lunch and a pint (or two)! Although, we only had soup and bread it was superb and just what we needed. The welcome, ambience and experience could not be bettered. Excellent service and delightful hosts. This is a real gem of a pub and we left bemoaning the fact that our local is not! We hope to return soon to try more from the restaurant menu.

The ambience of the inn is very cosy has a great fire pit outside. The food is superb and delicious . Everything was hot and cooked to how we asked for it.

We would highly recommend a stay with dinner and drinks at the Jack Russell. The atmosphere is very friendly and accommodating, and the room was of a high standard. Great food - we had Sunday lunch which was cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes in particular were 👌 On Monday morning, we opted for a cooked breakfast which again, was to a very high standard. We will be staying again and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice dog friendly pub.

Great offer for staying on a Sunday night with family. The Atmosphere was amazing in the pub and the fire pit is an amazing space for a large group especially with the cooler weather coming in. The rooms were superb and a very high quality. The food was delicious across both dinner and breakfast and they offer a variety for all. The Sunday roasts were excellent.
