Disgraceful Sunday dinner. We arrived promptly and sat down at our table. The children and elderly relative managed to get their dinner and then a very large table stood in the queue to get their food. The young man cutting the meat struggled with his duty and this made the long queue even longer. As this queue went down it was obvious no one was refilling the vegetables and potatoes or gravy and guests were having to ask for this food to be brought out. They then ran out of vegetables so anyone in the queue was unlucky and why half our table did not eat. The young staff appeared directionless with no supervisor or Manager present. I was told the restaurant Manager was not in so was not able to complain as a lot of people were doing. The staff were not clearing plates in due time or even going to tables to ask if anyone wanted anything. Came to this carvery on recommendation but will not be returning. Ended up getting a Chinese takeaway!!!

We chose to have my grandads 88th birthday meal here last night with there being 22 of us. From arranging this directly with the team to our food everything was faultless. The food very very hot & tasty and portion size was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were very Friendly and helpful. This was our first visit and it won’t be our last as looking forward to visiting for a carvery!

Recommended this place by a friend due to a new chef being employed. Nicely decorated, tidy, clean with efficient, polite staff. First starters arrived swiftly after ordering. Pate and HOMEMADE melba toast and homemade soup. Carvery consisted of a generous selection of meats with various vegetables and Roast potatoes and help yourself Yorkshire Puddings. All food was piping hot and tasty. Recommend this little hidden jem to all. Definitely will be booking again..

We visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch which was beautiful. Great selection of starters and a choice of 3 meats plus dauphinois potatoes, roast potatoes, fabulous Yorkshire puddings and a great selection of vegetables and stuffing. What a wonderful treat to having to cook. Great food at a great price what fabulous value for money. Will certainly return.

Where do we begin about this tinpot unwelcoming place the food was excellent but that’s where it ends when a room has been booked for a wake for a very dear family member one would expect a bit of decorum from it’s members not here firstly outside having a smoke by the ash bin on the wall by the entrance constantly abused by bowlers entering the building very unwelcoming to the extent of being intimidating totally ruined the occasion for the close family I personally spent over £200 I know of several family who spent well over £100 must have have boosted the clubs coffers for a Monday night so to be abused by its members is very insulting I am seething typing this review the most negative review I have ever posted on tripadvisor but I feel that anyone considering booking this place for a function must be warned about the inconsiderate members this venue should not entertain gatherings with such unfriendly unwelcoming members and secondly make it clear as to the licensing hours of the venue not just refuse service for 10 people before 11 pm.

We had the afternoon tea yesterday afternoon and it was delicious 😋 There was so much for the £20 we payed, 2 sandwiches, 2 sausage rolls, 2 scotch eggs, crisps, salad, fresh strawberries, 2 pieces of chocolate fudge cake, 2 HUGE pieces of Victoria sponge cake, 2 fruit scones. 2 little pots of jam, 2 little pots of thin cream and 2 little pots of clotted cream all beautifully presented in a cardboard hamper. I think the cake will last all over the easter weekend. Thank you so much Paul - it was amazing - well done 👏 We'll definitely be ordering again 😀 x

Order arrived part missing, over 2 hours after ordering, stone cold and with a hair in it. Called to complain and Ben in the kitchen said he was too busy as he was on his own but none of it was his fault!? Shouted at me, very abrupt and rude and swore at me calling me a "nob". Given managers mobile, left voicemail but no one has bothered to call back or even apologise for his disgusting attitude. Suprised the place is still in business with staff like that. Absolutely disgusted.

Four of us went for a 3 course Sunday Lunch today. Very disappointed. My choice of starter was garlic mushrooms, they came with a salad garnish, unfortunately the lettuce was brown. The main course was turkey it came with Yorkshire pudding which was hard to cut, the vegetables were frozen not fresh and poor quality. The Roast potatoes were overcooked. I was unable to have a sweet as there was only chocolate gateau left. I would not recommend this meal. £15 was not value for money. The restaurant did have good social distancing measures in place, shame about the meal.

A very popular venue, a nice atmosphere, good choice of starters, the main meal being a carvery with a choice of three meats or a mixture of two, vegetables plentiful and nicely cooked, a good selection of sweets.Only criticism was that the queue was a little slow moving as plates for the starters were in short supply as was the gravy. Several sweets were also unavailable, but all in all good value.

For £12 each you get 3 courses plus as much tea and or coffee as you want. The food was very good and I know I will eat there again very soon.

We came very close to cancelling this booking! (My partner took out the frozen Boxing Day joints, early, as a contingency). This is reflected in the 3 star rating, as we had to negotiate our needs.1. Some of the usual choices (starters) were not on the menu.2. Upon enquiry, one of the partners gave a "That's what's available! Take it or leave it!" attitude. This was NOT ACCEPTABLE but was rectified by the senior partner, who did say "Leave it with me!" upon a visit (and further enquiry) from mother-in-law, on anther booking.I have a broad taste, so I am easily catered for and will enjoy some dishes that are more an acquired taste, especially on the savoury end of the spectrum. Some people require a plainer taste. Children can be especially finicky. What is a family Xmas dinner all about, if not children?A restrictive menu will only serve to narrow your clientele. Thankfully, some staff saw the sense and rectified this.We later found out that one of the younger chefs had also stepped in to cater for the needs of my daughter & father-in-law. We also found on the day itself that other choices had been added to the starters. As always, JP had catered to one of my specific needs, due to an allergy.Thank you to the senior partner and common sense of your great team of chefs for saving the day.

Good food, friendly chef, and his young staff are great too. We usually get our pick of table when booking, but Mrs forgot this request on this occasion, but the main room made a change. Also on this visit, we forgot to order the variation on starters, for those of our family with certain dietary requirements; even this got sorted on the day.The price is great for the number of courses and the food is good quality, home from home Fayre. Our only gripe, by the time we got to desserts, some choices were unavailable. This wasn't down to the restaurateur, but to some of the more gluttonous patrons going up to this table 3 or more times. I have suggested, that if this table was manned, similar to the starters, this abuse would be discouraged.Well, we're booked in for Easter.Always booked under Jean or Ruth, we have been regular visitors with both owners and shall continue to do so, so long as the good trend continues.Keep up the good work!

Tuesday night is pie night, with pie and dessert offered for just under £8.00. All I can say is, make sure you have a healthy appetite before you eat as the portions are extremely generous: I struggled to finish mine and asked if I could take my dessert home. We have visited several times and tried various items on the menu and have never been disappointed.

I had heard that on Wednesday evenings Mexican Nights were being held at the restaurant so decided to check it out and had a brilliant time. The food was lovely, very tasty, with lots of different dishes to try and you could have as much as you want! The atmosphere was great, the service was great and brilliant value for money. Can't fault it! I will definitely be back :-)

The last two years when friends from the North East Visit they have enjoyed an evening at Barwell Bowls club as they play regularly.Eight of us enjoyed a game of Bowls and looked forward to the meal afterwards. After eating quite regularly under the previous management when good hearty food was on offer ,it has to said that it is unlikely we will be returning.Out of the eight meals one had to be returned, and most of the others were luke warm at best.It would have been embarrassing to ask for them all to be reheated.Very few people were dining and it seemed obvious why!Reservations are accepted, however it would be a big surprise if you could not get a table easily!Stuart,PHinckley,

My husband, myself and a friend have belong to a local retired group which hold monthly meetings. The bowls club is on our way to the meetings and we have been calling in for our lunch for a few years now. The service has always been good and although it is not a high class restaurant the food has always been good with generous helpings. We have enjoyed a glass of wine and found the staff very good.Last month was our first visit since it changed hands and we will not be returning until it changes hands again. The tables were not laid out, it looked bare and deserted far from inviting. My husband and myself ordered a cottage pie and my friend chose the fish pie. After a very long wait the meal arrived. The dish was quite large but when we looked inside there was very little meat what there was was gristle and the rest was large chunks of insipid onion. The potato on top was just a heap of soggy mashed potato not even browned. The veg was a small portion which tasted as though it was ready prepared and microwaved in a bag. Nothing had been seasoned and there were no vegetables in the pie. Our friends' fish pie had only 4 small peices of fish inside equally tastless. The deserts were a little better and the only dish we consumed all of.We were pleased to see the same waitresses we had before who were as pleasant as always. We had a Christmas lunch with the group we belong to which under the old management was really good and we had been planning to have our summer lunch there but after the experience we had we will be looking elswhere.

We have been to this restaurant before. Yes it is in a bowling club building but that does not distract from the dining area. We are not saying that this is the best restaurant we have ever been to but for our family celebration it was ideal. To read that the owner was rude etc., I find incredible. Amongst our party were two coeliacs one of which (a 6 year old) is also dairy intollerent. The starters on offer were unsuitable but immediately an alternative was offered. We had taken our own gravy - no need the gravy used was gluten free. Puddings varied choice but again not for our two - immediately a gluten/dairy free alternative was offered. You do not get this sort of consideration at many of the main stream restaurants and can only thank Darren I think that was his name for his forward thinking for people with this "disability". Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and thought it great value for money. Also staff friendly and willing to help.

Compared with last year the Christmas meal was disappointing, we were a large party celebrating at lunchtime. The meal began with a waitress serving the meat from a tray to your plate, the portion served , by man eating standards was small, which consisted of Turkey and Gammon. The Turkey was tasteless as well as small in portion and very plasticky. The veg came to the table on platters to serve yourself and was almost enough but the roast spuds ran out and when asked for more I felt like Olive Twist. We did get more but I never did have any roast parsnips.Pud was fetch it yourself from a table, ok but I felt under observation by a big guy standing guard which I felt he was there to see that you didn't take to much. This was followed by a supermarket type mince pie and an after 8 mint. There was just enough to go round and that was because several did not take any.My verdict ' spoilt by a tight fisted attitude and tasteless meat.

Our low rating is purely down to the attitude of the chef at this establishment. I was with a large party that had probably given £1,000 worth of business on the day. The Chef was rude from the moment we arrived. He seems to feel that it is acceptable to shout at both the customers and his staff. Why he feels it is necessary to come front of house when clearly he does not have the skills or personality to deal with customers, is a mystery. He has some very competent young serving staff who do a much better job than he would ever be able to do with customers. Leave front of house to those that have the skills to deliver great service. Your skills are clearly in the kitchen as the food delivered was great. Everything is spoilt though when the Chef comes front of house. We had a very professional young man serve us who clearly had the personality to make a great leader as a front of house person. Until the setup is changed here, we really could not recommend this as a place to eat.

I went to the jack high restaurant for my dads 80th as there was over 70 of family and friends and we needed some where big enough, when we got there the owner was very rude kept watching what we put on our plates was helping his self to the food, he shouted at some people for taking to much meat, on the second time it was for my mums wake and the owner was the same again, he didn't put food out that we asked and paid for, some family made extra cakes for the children and when he saw them he took the cakes and puddings that my dad had paid for, I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless the owner goes I won't go there.

We had a very good meal here on a day when the restaurant had a big party in and although some things were unavailable due to this, we were kept well informed. When our order was taken the service was very quick. We certainly couldn't complain about the servings we couldn't manage to eat it all. Lovely friendly staff too. This is not a restaurant with a bar scene or any outdoor seating its not that type of place, it is a restaurant within a bowling club.

I am writing this review after my 3rd visit the the Jack High restaurant, and on each occasion the food from the carvery has been very good, always a good choice of meat and vegetables and the sweets are excellent. And to make a celebration even better, the bowling lanes can be hired to build up a thirst and an appetite

10/10 Lovely Fresh Food! The ploughman’s baguette, was the most tasteful thing I’ve ever tried! So yummy! Clean and the staff are friendly the two ladies. I would definitely try the breakfast next time! You must go! Toastier and baguettes are the one!

Came in on Thursday for a nice spot of lunch, had some lovely service from zane and he made our visit a delight and served some lovely food from chef suzie, wasn't too keen on coming up to the bar and being ignored from the tall blonde/ginger man who was too interested on his conversation after acknowledging us however this didn't detar my experience. I do recommend others to visit for zanes service and food from the chefs was spot on good job
