Arrived way past lunch time kn a bank holiday, but still got served a great meal. Portions were very generous and full of flavour. Seabass was very tasty. Staff was nothing but nice and sweet, especially towards our little baby boy. Space is well decorated, old vibes meet new chic. Will definitely be coming back, want to try the cakes.

To be totally honest the Sunday roasts were very average perhaps even below average. A few of us got the last beef roasts at 1pm the other option being chicken breast. Our kids just wanted a portion of chips each but these were clearly refried from the day before. So dry they snapped when bent and were hollow inside. I’m kicking myself for not bringing this to their attention because this is unacceptable. The roast beef was just ok - more like stewed beef in a pool of gravy. At least it was soft I guess. Tough beef would have been worse. Veggies were ok but very dry. I suggest roasting potatoes in goose fat - these tasted like a weight watchers version roasted with a brushing of oil. Carrots and peas could have done with a knob of butter. The dining room itself has no windows that open so it was stiflingly hot inside on a 24C day. This made eating lunch hard work. Drinks fine no problem. Food prices are good here but I see why now…

We stopped off for a drink and the landlord and staff were extremely friendly. Recommended a local gin with Hampshire watercress which was lovely and my husband had a decent local bitter. We were looking for a place to bring our family for food and it looks ideal, there’s a garden with a few swings and slide for the grandchildren. It would be a nice place in the winter too as the interior is interesting with some large tables and squishy sofas. We will definitely return for Sunday lunch.

In the small town of East Meon approx 30 minutes drive from Winchester lies the Izaak Walton pub which is on the main road that passes through the village. I was there for a gathering of 8 guys, one of which lives in East Meon, and we were honouring absent friends. We were there from 11.30am until 6pm. We had an excellent lunch of shepherds pie and countless beers. The pub is a local pub, the landlord knows the East Meon resident so our near 6 hour event was a success. The pub is opposite a stream that appears to run through the village, and at the rear of the pub is a large garden, although far too cold to sit there. Lastly, the staff were very welcoming, efficient and friendly.

A lovely welcoming pub in a beautiful village with the added advantage that dogs are welcome. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was home-cooked and enjoyable. The Sunday roast was excellent both for myself, with roast lamb and my partner who is a vegetarian. He said it was the best meal he had experienced out in over a year. This was our first time back to this pub in eight years and we will be back again, this weekend, with family members. Very relaxing and excellent value.

Visited this pub last week it’s set in a beautiful little village but what an absolute shambles of a “pub”. Nobody even acknowledged we were there or came to ask what drinks we would like. Went to order food turns out half the menu they didn’t have, waited over an hour for the food to come out freezing cold! Nicola the lady behind the bar who calls herself the “landlady” is so rude and ignorant no customer service skills at all! We were all made to feel very unwelcome. Definitely not recommended!!!

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and left feeling very underwhelmed. The menu is brief with very basic fare and no imagination, so we just ordered a burger and fish pie. The burger was more like a child’s portion and tasteless with the only saving grace being the chips were home made! The fish pie was very bland with just flaked salmon in a sauce and topped by lots of mashed potato. There was no atmosphere and it was not a very engaging experience. With one pint of beer, a medium glass of wine & a 10% service charge, it all came to £40, so not even good value! Needless to say we were not impressed and will not be returning!

My brother lives in Alton and set about booking the Izaak Walton on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May 2023 as a venue for the family to sit down, reflect and enjoy a yummy buffet after we had ceremoniously scattered our Mother's Ashes on the majestic Old Winchester Hill (permission had been granted). What a pretty village. What a lovely pub - the quiche and miniature victoria sandwich cakes were fantastic - so was the rest of the food. Staff were absolutely wonderful (even fixed the broken frame that I wanted to display of our Mother) - and I fell in love with Chip the cute doggie at the end of the bar (he nearly came home with me). Thank you, everyone, at the Izaak Walton (and hello little Chip).

Every year for 24 years now, between Christmas and New Year a dozen of us old men do a serious walk (12 miles now we are averaging over 75). It must incorporate a good pub lunch and be somewhere in Hampshire we have never been before. This year we descended on the Izaak Walton. The whole group commented on the friendly welcome, friendly cosy atmosphere and the excellent service. There is a good choice of beers. The menu focuses on good HOME COOKED food. In particular those who had the fish pie and the cottage pie were very very happy. The bread and butter pudding is seriously good. This doesn't come from some corporate freezer centre. The whole gang said that The Izaak Walton was a triumph - a gem that hasn't been overly gentrified and achieves the objective of being a good country pub with a warm welcome and good home cooking.

Had an amazing night at The Izaak Walton for a friend's birthday. I feel the comment made before is unfair, from what i saw there was a slight disagreement and misunderstanding which was quickly sorted . This is a child friendly pub with lovely staff, lovely food and i feel the review is unjustified.

I was there at that party and I agree that the landlord was a drunken arrogant git and to say its a family pub is rubbish they were very rude about asking us all to leave after they had taken our money up til 10 then decided to ask us to leave and to say it was quickly sorted was only because we left because we were discussed with the landlords Violents toward my sister in law and nephew he spoilt what up til then a good night never will I go there again and will not be recommending to my family or friends

I'm sorry but I had to respond, I too was at that party on 23rd January 2016. A fantastic night it was, yes I saw it got a little heated between you and the landlord, but I believe it was over your young son they are quite strict about having minors in the bar, I heard it announced more than once that children had to leave by 9pm. Everyone happily agreed to do so. As for "violence" sorry but that did not happen. So you going down and threatening the young bar staff that you was going to smash the bar up ! Really!! If there was violence on the night why did no one call the police ? Yes it got slightly heated between you but from what I heard your wife was clearly making it worse, shame you felt the need to create a profile to run a beautiful village pub into the ground. I mean you don't even live there !!!!! Apart from that minuscule blip the party was not stopped and a great time was had by all

we went to a birthday party to what was described as a family pub, only for my wife and 14y old son to be aggressively harrassed by a very drunken landlord who actually became violent when we complained.! if travelling to east meon again i would definitely avoid this pub in favour of 'ye olde george' which was the exact opposite !

Popped in here as it was listed as dog friendly and my mother and I had traveled to petersfield for a dog walk exploring the local lake and got hungry. So glad we did! What a lovely little pub! The gentleman holding down the fort acting as barman and waiter etc (I presume the Landlord!) was lovely and friendly, welcoming and kind- none of that small pub for locals atmosphere at all! I got chatting with some of the regulars and it seems to be a very well loved and well used local for many but one you can step in to as an outsider and be happily welcomed. Great selection of drinks and it was lovely to see they stock the non alcoholic Asahi! Never had that behind a bar before and I was very glad to see it. The food was lovely, the chips were cooked to perfection and the meze bowl was flavourful and wonderfully put together. I always worry about meze bowls being bland but the flavours were beautiful and very well balanced to compliment each other. We are already looking forward to coming back now that we have 'discovered' this wonderful little gem!

Atmosphere: The environment in the dining room is sterile and needs a complete face lift,. Add uncomfortable chairs and intrusive, "on hold" style musac and the overall experience is bland and disappointing. Service: Slow service despite a small number of guests. A lack of training is apparent, as indicated by the amateurish handling of wine service. Wine and water bottles plonked on table with tops on, and no offer to pour or allowing tasting. Our food was good but we noted other guests were complaining. Value for Money: Diners do expect a higher level of both food and service quality to justify high prices with the label " gastropub". When the experience doesn’t meet these expectations as in our case, it leaves a bad impression.

I regularly visit The Fox both during the week and the weekend. We often pop in to enjoy a couple of drinks and bar snacks during the week. At the weekend we come in to enjoy for the various events they put on whether it be a local band or singer or even a casino night! It has a lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and delicious food. Wonderful service from wonderful staff!

Remembering The Crown as a warm and welcoming quintessential village pub when when living in Headley some years before, we booked table for Saturday lunch at 2pm. With only another table of four, there was a bit of a wait for food. The real issue was that when we came to order dessert (2 x affrogato), we were told we needed to be quick because the pub would be closing in 5 minutes. Service was dour and unfriendly, food underwhelming and generally poor value for money. Such a shame!

Best roast in Hampshire and real fabulous inventive food without being poncy! Nice staff, lovely pub, clean toilets and a beautiful Hampshire village- what more could you want!
