What a lovely little cafe/bistro! Me and my mum were staying at the Holiday Inn just down the road and spotted this lovely little cafe right by Great Portland Street tube station. Very welcoming staff. Food was excellent with a good choice of vegetarian and vegan meals and salads. I had the lunch menu (two courses for £19). I had the avocado and tomato salad with rocket and olive oil which was lovely and fresh. And the vegetable casserole with lentils and black eyed beans. Really lovely authentic Turkish food and it was nice to sit outside - just like being on holiday! Will definitely be back!

An Excellent place to eat. Breakfast and lunch maybe more. Close to Regent's Park. A great place for people watching on a corner of a busy junction. Rustic decor. Service is excellent. You really feel looked after. I had breakfast twice never disappointed. Would recommend worth a visit. I wish this establishment best of luck for the future. I will visit again when in London. Always excellent value for money. You can get a snack or a full meal in this ideally located restaurant. The wraps are particularly good. I have been coming here for years and never had a bad meal. The service is always excellent.

Wow! What an amazing breakfast! We visited this little cafe after seeing the positive reviews, and we wanted a Turkish breakfast, so it seemed like the perfect choice. This was about a 10-minute walk from our hotel on Tottenham Court Road and very close to the entrance of Regent Park. The cafe is situated outside a tube station on a busy bit of road, but when you step inside, you instantly forget how busy it is outside. The decoration is lovely, and there is plenty of seating. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered the sultan breakfast, a large feast with a pot of turkish tea included. We asked to swap the tea for a coffee, which they kindly agreed to do. The breakfast was really good. Full of flavour. Lots of variety, a proper breakfast banquet, so much so we couldn't finish it all! Would definitely go back.

My wife and I had a lovely meal on Oct 3. The food and service was excellent and we thought the cost was very reasonable. We had the dinner for two for 45 BP and besides being delicious there was also plenty of it. My wife had the baklava for desert and said it was the best she had ever had. The Turkish beer was good too.

Best kebabdish in a looong time! Nice mix of international food and authentic, like fish and chips. Easy for the whole family to find a tastful meal. Nice athmosphere and very good service.

We had booked a table for four to meet friends from Australia and the staff were not fazed when five of us turned up and made an extra place even though the restaurant was full. The food was delicious and very good value for money. The staff were helpful and efficient and friendly. Definitely recommend.

This is a usually nice place to eat from. However today we were very disappointed with how the staff seemed to want to rush us out. I was having dinner with my son and had staff come over to my table 6 times to check if I had finished eating when we had lots of food on our plates. I then had to ask for takeaway boxes because they clearly wanted us out. The staff kept coming to peep on us to see if we were done which was very irritating! This really spoilt my experience at this restaurant that I’ve dined at several Times! There was only four of us in the main dining area . 5 tables seating 4 people were free and one table Seating 2 people was also free so I am Still not sure why they displayed this attitude. If there was a queue of people waiting I can understand but this was not the case. Very off putting and extremely disappointing.

We don’t visit London very often but when we do, this is always on our go to list, we called for a light lunch on Sunday, staff were friendly and we managed to get table outside to sit and watch the world go by. We had the cold meze for 2 which was delicious, 2 others ordered sandwiches which were freshly made but could of done with a little salad or something on the side. We have had the hot meze previously which we would recommend.

Absolutely appalling! We ordered two main courses both with chips. Only one arrived and the server apologised and said the second one would come as soon as possible, for which no charge would be made. A generous and nice gesture, since we had to share from the same plate and then wait 25 minutes for the second one to arrive. Incidentally, we also went there for lunch and drinks on the same day. When it came to paying the bill, we were charged for both meals and when we brought the matter to their attention, the server concerned denied the offer of a reduced charge and called us liars! After much rudeness and shouting by three staff, they eventually relented and credited the bill. We left feeling very unhappy and felt the staff were generally apathetic and belligerent. A nasty experience.

We went there for breakfast and it was perfect. Beautiful setting, welcoming and attentionate staff, delicious food. I would definitely go back!

So good!  Located literally right next to Great Portland Street Underground Station.  Lovely bistro, has like a restaurant and cafe feel.  Indoor and outdoor seating.  Clean.  Nice ambience.  I got a lovely window seat.  Huge variety on the menu from Turkish dishes to pasta, burgers, salads, dessert, breakfast and more.  They give complimentary bread and olives too as you are waiting for your food.  I had the chicken kebab which was a breast of chicken marinated with herbs and then grilled.  This came with rice and a light salad.  So good!  Divine.  Well presented, freshly made and a perfect portion size for one.  Good healthy balanced meal.  Ask for the home-made chilli sauce!  So nice.  I loved my meal and gladly finished everything.  Chicken was perfectly grilled and lightly marinated.  I couldn't fault it.  They have a good selection of drinks too from wines to juices.  I just had a still water.  Service was very good and food comes out quickly once you order.  Staff were attentive and friendly, yet they left diners to enjoy their meals in peace.  Not too badly priced.  Highly recommend! 

I’ve been to Great Portland Street loads of times but never noticed this hidden gem before. Tasty Turkish cuisine served with a friendly smile. Reasonably priced for central London. I will look this out again next time I am in the area.

Next to Portland Street tube is this very authentic Turkish restaurant. Great decor and cafe feel. English Breakfast is good and value for money with lots of choices. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere

The Istanbul is a wonderful find, a slightly quirky little cafe squeezed behind the entrance to Great Portland St tube. You get a Turkish vibe as soon as you enter. The serving staff are all friendly and helpful but the real star is the food - freshly cooked, authentic Turkish dishes at very reasonable prices. I now can't wait to return to try a whole selection of different dishes.

Really a rare gem. We were staying in the area and passed it everyday. one night we popped in. Its so cosy, and the food is gorgeous. There's a great selection and something for everyone. I had the marinated lamb burger it was delicious. My partner had the spaghetti bolognese and we had the borek as a starter. Very quick service. The prices are amazing and very cheap for the area. On a Sunday night it felt so peaceful. Glad we finally popped in!

No pretensions. This is a good Turkish restaurant/cafe right at Great Portland St tube station. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food is good and reasonably priced. What more do you need?

At first glance, a kebab restaurant outside an underground station. Turned out to be so good. Had the cold shared starter and Shish kebab as a main. The flavours were immense, the lamb really succulent and the flat bread just lovely. Really surprised and delighted...

Went here 2 days ago with my daughter, got back again this evening. Such a nice service, such a nice dining experience!!! We had small portions of everything to taste and we truly were spoiled! Wonderful staff!!!

This has been a favourite place of mine to meet friends since 2004, when I first discovered it. I would describe it as a Turkish Meze Cafe. It’s right outside of Great Portland Street Underground Station. I normally walk from Warren Street ( Northern Line-5 Mins walk)This day we chose the mixed hot Meze which was around £12/ head in the evening plus mixed kebab. We could just about finish it. The Meze had taziki, humus, haloumi, sambouk ( lamb sausages), pickles, chopped parsley salad. The kebab mix was tender and perfect. We had tea and some baclava desert to finish off. My two visiting friends from Qatar thought it was excellent value/ quality as did I.

Convenient, cosy restaurant with atmosphere. We had the 2-course lunch special, and struggled to finish the ample portions. The menu gives a good choice of Mediterranean dishes, and the food is well presented and appetising. Workers with limited time for lunch will welcome the prompt service, or you can take your time over a leisurely meal. Salads and fruit drinks for those on a diet.

I went to the restaurant for a quick lunch and the main course took about 50 minutes to arrive. I have to say that the quality of the food was excellent, but like I said I came for a quick lunch break from work and because of how long the food took to come to the table I couldn't really enjoy it or finish as I had to rush to work in like 5 minutes which is a shame. What annoyed me the most is that even though I complained about how long the food took, they had the audacity to add a service charge to the bill. This really motivated me to write this review because even though I always tip in restaurants, I feel that it should be up to me to decide if I want to tip and I also expect the service to be impeccable.

Had the Royal breakfast again just so tasty i have it every time, every one else had an english breakfast and really enjoyed it, staff are friendly enough, will defiantly be back on my next visit to London!

Perfect location for breakfast This was our fourth visit to the Istanbul Cafe &amp; Bistro for breakfast over the last few years. As always never disappoints for service, quality and Walmart welcome. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs a must (with mushrooms £8) This place is a fantastic value for money and quality option over the rip off hotel breakfasts in London Well done, we will be visiting again!

Had their recommended kebab option, the meat was delicious, rice was good, salad was fresh....wasn't too keen on the eggplant.The baklava for dessert was delicious.Only issue encountered was I ordered a vodka and coke and was automatically issued (and charged) a double where I would expect a single be default.

An unexpected find. we were staying at a nearby hotel and didn't want to stray too far for a meal. Right behind Great Portland Street tube station is this small but wonderful Turkish restaurant. They offer a set meal option with plenty of choice, and great value. We even went again a second evening, and it was equally good.The decor features photos and objects from Istanbul and turkey generally which add to the cosy ambience. The place is small, and could feel crowded or cramped at busy times, but the staff are friendly and I highly recommend a visit if you like tjhis style of eating.

This is a well run place just outside the Great Portland Street underground station. You can sit outside but will be surrounded by traffic. Inside is peaceful with good coffee and great Lemon Cake. Service is fine although I had a bit of difficulty making myself understood. I think prices are at the top end here for a snack but then you are in an expensive area of London.

Enjoyed a wonderful Turkish feast recently at the Istanbul Cafe at the Great Portland Street tube stop. The service was very good and the food was excellent. I truly thought I was back in Turkey. Shared the Mezze platter for two, which was plentiful for four! From the tabouleh to the kabobs everything was flavorful, satisfying and yummy.

Sucedió encontrar este lugar hace unos meses con mis padres mientras caminábamos por Londres, todos disfrutamos mucho los desayunos que tomamos, así que hoy mi esposo y yo hicimos un viaje de regreso y el Desayuno Real fue tan sabroso como la última vez. Salmón ahumado, champiñones fritos, huevos revueltos y tostadas, simple pero sabía muy bien y la bebida fresca de lima y limón era tan refrescante que mi esposo disfrutó de su desayuno preparado, el personal ha sido amable en ambas ocasiones, así que definitivamente volveré la próxima vez estamos escuchamos! ! !

After I couldn’t have breakfast at Kibele restaurant which was very annoying, I went here instead and had a lovely Turkish brunch. I had menemen. Super delicious. The place itself is charming with lots of Turkish ornaments, lamps, pictures etc. there was a table with fresh veg on display which gave it a very Mediterranean feel. Nothing you’d see very often in other restaurants. I’ll definitely go again.

Ik kom hier 2-3x per jaar voor de Royal College of Physicians. Hier zit je prima, ongecompliceerd , kost niks. Vriendelijke bediening en alles verser dan vers. Het is in het metro station , dus makkelijk af te spreken. Vanavond “vergaderde “ ik hier met collegae uit St Thomas en Kings college, prima prima bereikbaar.

Heard great things about this place and finally went...sorry we waited so long. Food was fresh and delicious and was better than our regular Turkish. Even the hummous was amazing! Good service, welcoming and very attentive. Fast, delicious and local.

Arrivati nel pomeriggio a Londra e ancora stanchi per un interminabile tragitto in taxi da Gatwick al centro città, siamo andati a cena in questo ristorante pub turco. Abbiamo ordinato bistecche di agnello, cheeseburger, fish and chips, birra e vino. Ottime le bistecche, tenere e davvero saporite. Ma non erano agnello!!!!!! Ci hanno servito ottime bistecche di vitello spacciandole per agnello!!! Tavoli senza tovaglie e servizio molto approssimativo.

I have eaten at the Istanbul cafe twice. Both times I have been impressed with the food.

A restaurant located at Great Portland Street station. The food and service are consistent. A good place for a quick lunch or just a cup of tea.

נכנסו אל המסעדה בדרך למאדם טוסו, מיהרנו מאוד והזמנו המבורגרים. השירות היה אדיב ומהיר. האוכל טרי וטעים. אם לא היינו ממהרים היינו יושבים יותר זמן ונהנים מהקינוחים שנראו טעימים סוף.

Not much to say about it. The restaurant portrays itself as a Turkish cafe, and they certainly have Turkish style food, but it was average at best. Maybe the coffee and pastry is good, but I wouldn’t come here for the entrees. We each had a lamb platter, and it was pretty bland and boring. Portions were skimpy for the price. The staff were only present to take our order and bring our food. We had to chase them down for the bill. By the end of the meal I wish we had gone across the street to the pizza express because I feel it would have been a better value for the money.

We were staying nearby and found this cafe. We ate here a few times. We enjoyed all of our meals here. Our breakfast plates were very filling and delicious. The Dinner we had was the sharing meal was one of the best Turkish meals I've ever had.

I was politely greeted and requested to be seated outside. The bread they served as a ‘starter’ for you to eat whilst you wait for the main food to arrive (as they usually do in Turkish restaurants) was hard and cold. I ordered a chicken shish which took way too long to arrive. The table of 5 next to me got their food before I did and considering I was there solo for a quick meal and had ordered 15 minutes before them, that was pretty annoying. The waiter was apologetic for this and the food arrived another 10 minutes after I had moaned. The chicken and rice was lovely and was very well presented. I did find it odd that the rice also had sweet corn, carrots and peas within it (but that might just be me being fussy). Overall a quick meal dragged out and I found myself surrounded by smokers seated outside. I think a restaurant should just have a no smoking policy, especially in a small external area.

Try the eat Turkish specials. Not expensive for London. Great location too. Coffee was strong and just the ticket. Good friendly service too.

Been coming here for years and the food has always been of an impeccably high standard and consistent. All the items on the menu are highly recommended

Iv been here a couple of times now (always with my mum) & really rate like this place! They start off by giving you warm Turkish bread with two dips. One red spicy chilli dip (not too spicy but has a lovely kick to it) & one cucumber Rita type dip (both delicious & go very well with the bread & any of the meat you may decide to have for your main meal!) They also give you a rather large salad to share with a yummy sweet dressing that goes really well with the salad. I have no idea what this dressing is but both mum & I found it rather delicious! By the time you’ve eaten all that your left thinking, thank gawd I only ordered a main & didn’t order a starter too!! On this occasion I went for the lamb Adana kebab & the chicken shish, which comes with white rice & bulgar wheat. The meat on this dish was very tasty, however my only qualm is they should put a slice of lemon with any dishes like that as apart from dips they provide the meal would end up being quite dry if you didn’t have these. However the food was very tasty & the staff kept topping up the sauce pots for dipping out meats in & having with our rice! Staff are always very friendly & helpful & I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this restaurant! I would give this place 5 stars if they made the interior design of the restaurant nicer. The lights are quite bright & the kitchen counter currently looks like a kebab shop stuck inside a restaurant. I wouldn’t come here for a bday meal but it’s great for any other time you fancy some

A great place for good food, the aubergine starter is always great, love the lamb kebab (kulbasti), as a Turkish bistro cafe it's one of the best in London.

El servicio fue estupendo. Éramos 5 y rápidamente arreglaron las mesas para acomodarnos. La comida era excelente y bien presentada. El menú era lo suficientemente amplio para todos nosotros, incluyendo 2 niños menores de 10 años y un vegano. Mi única crítica es que el plato principal se sirvió demasiado rápido después de los entrantes; todavía estábamos comiendo los entrantes cuando llegó.

I had the hot mixed platter, and the garlic chicken kebab! They are not quite what expected. They only carry the Turkish name but nothing of the spices or taste. I gave them 2 stars for their friendly staff.
