Underwhelming. We booked this restaurant for our anniversary because of its reputation. First and foremost, when they talk about the romantic decor, it’s focused on the ground floor rear under the skylight. We were not seated there but on the first floor, which was still a nicely decorated area but not what we were expected. Aside from decor, there wasn’t anything inherently wrong with the food, it was nice, but equally for the price point I wasn’t blown away and the portion sizes are small. We had 2 starters, 2 mains, a side portion of Cavolo Nero, and a bottle of wine. Our bill came to £214 including tip. Our food orders were the steak tartar, the tortellini for starters. Lamb and red mullet for main. You get bread for the table. The staff were pleasant, and kindly arranged a small chocolate treat for our anniversary. I’ve seen some of the other reviews, and their ratings seem to be extreme. I enjoyed my evening at Clos Maggiore but I don’t feel I need to go back, and for me, that says it all. I think if you’re going to book, try to request you are seated in the ground floor rear. We booked this restaurant well in advance and stipulated it was our anniversary, and hoped we would be seated well, but it didn’t work out for us.

First, I booked one month in advance and didn’t know there are good tables inside and not-so-good tables at the entrance next to the bar. I recommend asking in advance. Second, the atmosphere and decoration were great and romantic. Service was okay—nothing special. Only one waiter was friendly. Finally, the food is extremely overrated. We had the tasting menu. The scallops were okay, nothing fancy. The tartare just tasted like mayonnaise—nothing special either. The cod wasn’t good at all; it tasted like university food. The lamb chop was good, and the sauce was good too. Dessert was okay. The two most expensive white and red wines by the glass were great. Overall, the food was very disappointing and not worth the price. You’re mostly paying for the flowers and wood—if you get a nice table in the center.

This restaurant is truly one of a kind—easily one of the most charming and unique spots around. There’s an undeniable luxurious feel. Every detail, from the lighting to the furnishings, is beautifully curated, making the ambiance a real standout. The service is attentive, welcoming, and polished without feeling overbearing. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to expectations. While it was well-presented, the flavors felt underwhelming, lacking the depth and richness I had hoped for. With such a refined atmosphere, I expected the cuisine to match the high standard set by the decor and service, but it didn’t quite get there. If you’re looking for a gorgeous place to enjoy a beautifully designed space with fantastic service, it’s still worth a visit. Just don’t go in expecting an unforgettable meal.

The interior design is sure to please girls and will put you in a good mood. Lunch meals were relatively inexpensive, around 50 pounds. For the meal, I chose something like carpaccio, roasted pork, and a chocolate dessert. The carpaccio was bland, but the rest, especially the pork, was very delicious. It also comes with bread. It's best to make a reservation even on a weekday Thursday, and we were shown to seats on the second floor, but if you're in a large group, you'll probably be seated on the first floor. The cost performance is good for Covent Garden, and it's the perfect place for a girls' night out.

What can I say apart from this is an absolute gem of a restaurant. I visited Clos Maggiore a few weeks ago for a wine tasting evening, sampling some exquisite Argentinian wines. It was my first time here and the decor, layout and ambience of the restaurant was truly stunning. The service throughout the evening was impeccable and the food, which was introduced course by course by the chef, was delicious and fitted the wines extremely well. Each wine and its history was expertly explained with enthusiasm and depth by our enigmatic host. All in all it was a lovely evening and I will certainly be returning.

A fabulous evening spent at Clos Maggiore in their private dining room enjoying the Chef's 5 course dinner menu with wines from Adrianna's vineyard. The Scallop was perfectly cooked and beautifully sweet, and the Denbighshire slow cooked lamb was a favourite. Stand out wines, the 2020 Adranna Vineyard White Bones Chardonnay, the 2019 Catena Adranna Vineyard River Malbec and the Nicolas Catena Zapata 2004. It was a privilege to have Adrianna present on the evening adding extra depth to the story behind her family's wines. Service was attentive, the sommelier very knowledgeable and introductions from the Head Chef and Pastry Chef held everything together. Would definitely visit again.

I took my cousin out for a nice dinner during her first visit to London. We were greeted warmly by a friendly hostess and seated within 10 minutes at a lovely table where we began catching up. After ordering our food and receiving our starters, a staff member approached us, asking if we would like to move to a different dining room. This would’ve involved us waiting for our food and drinks to be carried over. It became clear they were trying to free up our table for a larger group, even though we were clearly having a personal, intimate conversation. We politely declined the offer to move, wanting to enjoy the quiet spot we had been given (without requesting it ourselves). What really affected our experience—and the reason I rated the service only two stars—was the repeated interruptions. Staff approached our table six times asking if we had finished our meals, despite there being food still on our plates. One waiter even removed my plate while there was still ravioli on it, without asking. I had to tell him I wasn’t finished, and there was no apology. Overall, it didn’t feel like we were welcome. It seemed as though spending £250 on food and drinks wasn’t enough for them to consider us worth their time. Very disappointing service. Also, the beef dish for two was quite tough and lacked seasoning.

A wonderful dinner but Clos Maggiore please bring in a ‘reasonable’ phone etiquette rule. We sat next to a young couple one of whom took selfies the ENTIRE time whilst her partner was playing games. Of course, it’s perfectly reasonable to take selfies in such a beautiful room and photograph your food (which was very photographic!) but honestly, sitting next to, and facing someone who is taking selfies in various positions with various facial expressions was incredibly irritating. She didn’t stop! If you can sit somewhere else then you will have a truly wonderful experience. The food was divine, the wine list extensive and the service was excellent. Starters selection, very sparse, lukewarm - not even bar food standard really. There was constant pressure from the servers to add more to the order and the table we were seated at felt like right on the driveway. Disappointing. We paid for a Valentine's Day menu of about €400, the price was wildly out of keeping with the dishes served. It boasts haute cuisine and it was a disaster. Some starters (dry fritata, recessed fritters and a tasteless ragù tartlet). A salad with four poorly thrown leaves and raw pear with almost no dressing. Some ravioli with a rich filling but a fumet without flavor or taste...the magret was delicious but some bitter accompanying spinach that was impossible to eat and the last straw was a hake with chorizo sauce...the desserts were the only thing that was up to par. But it was really disappointing to pay €400 for what we ate…one of the worst experiences of my life…I honestly felt cheated. I don't recommend it at all.

Beautiful restaurant and we had a lovely table in the back. We had good service and a helpful sommelier. The food we chose was delicious and we enjoyed ourselves. One disappointment though was that my husband ordered a soufflé for desert and was refused as “it wasn’t prepared”. This was at 6.30pm - we had allowed time in our two hour slot. He politely asked again and expressed his disappointment but was told by the lovely waitress that the chef said it wouldn’t be ready until 7pm. It seemed to be awkward for the waitress and rather spoilt an otherwise wonderful occasion. As regulars of other fine dining restaurants we have never encountered this before when requesting a dish on the menu. Because of this and the price point, we have rated it three stars.

We were upstairs which was probably relatively quiet but I remember downstairs as being lovely too. We had crab tart and the pate as starters then fish and chicken as main. No room for a pudding sadly but the petit fours with the coffee were very nice. The wine list might be intimidatingly long but I chose a nice Chablis and you could ask for help if you needed it. One thing I will say, the place is beautiful, it has a really nice ambiance and seems very well kept. However, you don’t get what you pay for. We paid £160 per person for a Valentine’s Day menu and I was quite shocked by what we were served. I know when you go to these types of places, you tend to get smaller plates but I thought this was a prank. 5 courses and one of them was bread and butter with hors-d’ouvres, nothing special about either, the second was a few leaves and a bit of pear, it was supposed to have truffles but definitely didn’t. That’s all fine, but then when it came to the lobster ravioli, two pieces of ravioli?!? That’s just ridiculous. And then for the mains, a tiny bit of fish with sauce. How on earth can you serve such minuscule amounts of food and charge this amount? I’ve been to so many restaurants that are supposed to be of a similar level of quality and this was unbelievably below par. We left so hungry we had to stop and get food on the way to the theatre. £400+ for a small bunch of starters two beers and one cocktail. Absolutely shameful. Basically, we paid to sit in front of a fireplace under some fake flowers. I think if you’re a millionaire and paying this price for food is normal, you don’t mind. But if you plan to try and make do something special for your partner, this is definitely not the place for it.

I had the pork belly starter and the Monkfish, both of which were really good. My wife had the vegetarian main, and it was weird but not wonderful, and needs more thought. It was a strange sort of French toast dipped in egg crossed with a cheesy omelette and didn’t work at all. To their credit it was taken off the bill. All in all a good experience. We had a lovely dinner. The restaurant just looks amazing with these flowers decorated all over the ceiling. Very romantic atmosphere. We had a three course meal. The service was attentive and quick. The food was really tasty and the homemade petit fours were delicious, definitely would recommend them.

We had a lovely dinner at Clos Maggiore to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed. The reception team was very friendly, and our server was knowledgeable without being overbearing. Every course was delicious, and the staff made sure everything went smoothly from start to finish.

Such a good place to have dinner in London where they know the good sense of welcoming. The plates are delicious and beautiful, every waiters look after the table from the beginning to the end, the wine waitress has very good knowledge about the wine list which is incredible, you can find a lot of good bottles for a couple of 100£, the cocktails looks amazing and are very tasty. The only thing to correct, to have the best experience ever, would be to slow down a little bit the service of plates because it was as fast as a business lunch but still incredible experience.

Food is delicious, but the service was disappointing. Bonnie our waitress simply couldn’t care less. She asked my husband first when ordering, assumed we wanted the lunch menu (her tone was super dismissive), didn’t bring us any sparkling water 15 mins after asking and started taking orders without pouring us water first, insisted that the bread has to be cold and never even checked with the kitchen if they can be warmed up, poured the sauce of my starter onto the rim (outer edge) of my plate, the list goes on… Bonnie smiled but was completely unhelpful, untrained, and showed a completely misguided confidence because she clearly has no clue with fine dining service standards. Thankfully, after the starter, a new French waiter came out and was incredibly friendly, courteous and knew the service etiquette that fine dining should follow. He was the reason this restaurant still gets stars. Overall, please train your staff. London is a competitive market.

Wonderful lunch for my birthday. Exceptional food and service, and the dining room is one of the most beautiful I can remember. My only draw back was the wine list. While it is very impressive (great selection of back vintages, over 2500 different wines!), the mark up is one of the highest i have seen in London or anywhere else, and there is no corkage. Keely the sommelier was very knowledgable and did an admirable job finding something appropriate for us. It's an ideal place for dry January!

Took my boyfriend there for his birthday (although he paid as he is very generous). Very romantic setting and excellent food, wine and service. Also an excellent and extensive wine list but let down by ridiculous mark ups. I would like to give a special thanks to our sommelier Keely for navigating us through the list and finding some delicious wines that did not break my boyfriend's bank!

One of the most romantic restaurants in London with extremely beautiful floral settings and delicious food. The cocktails and food are all extremely well presented and tasted fabulous. It was all very worth the money and I find it very affordable for the quality and quantity of food you are getting. Highly recommend for couples, or birthday celebrations.

The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is its cosy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food is incredibly disappointing—nowhere near the standard you'd expect and certainly not worth the time or money. It’s shockingly overhyped. The vegetarian options were abysmal, easily some of the worst I’ve encountered in London. The dessert was pure sugar with no real flavour, making for an overall horrendous dining experience. Service was equally poor; our waiter was unfriendly and getting any assistance felt like an ordeal. Overall, a deeply disappointing visit—I wouldn’t recommend it.

Food was just ok, overpriced but ok. I would’ve given 3-4 stars if that was the extent of our experience however: Our waitress was EXTREMELY sick, coughing up a lung throughout the evening as she walked past us and throughout the restaurant without covering her mouth. I then observed the same waitress going behind the bar and sampling another customer’s cocktail with a straw. She threw away the straw which is good (still way too close for a sick person to be near any food or drink) however we then watched the other person working the bar sample a different drink, put the straw from their mouth back into the drink and sample it again… if you want to contract an illness come eat here, I will never return

The restaurant is very centrally located and is very nicely and comfortably furnished inside. The atmosphere is calm and invites you to linger. The service is discreet and always attentive. There's actually nothing to complain about when it comes to food. It tastes very good and the ingredients seem to be of good quality. Only the side dishes could retain some of the sophistication of the other dishes.

Made the booking well in advance, pre ordered due to dietary requirements, a day before our visit I had a call to say they've been sent the wrong meat, I was very disappointed with this. On the day all the staff was very nice apart from one lady in a grey blazer. I stressed to them it was a very special occasion, no effort was made, a plate with happy birthday in chocolate sauce which was smudged with two small chocolates. I was left very embarrassed.

Really sad, not sure what happened to this place as it used to be fantastic. I had a great meal here about two years ago — delicious food, excellent service — and my experience this past weekend couldn't have been anything further from that. We had to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated in the freezing cold doorway area of the restaurant where the door kept being opened and letting in all the freezing air. Once we sat down it took a further 20 minutes for a waiter to come and ask us if we wanted anything... and when he finally came over, he abruptly asked "are you ready to order?" ... usually in a nice restaurant you are first asked if you'd like a drink (and it shouldn't take 20 minutes). So we hastily placed our order and sadly the food was very average. Definitely not worth the price! There are so many more exciting and delicious options in London these days. The restaurant was also absolutely freezing, despite us being seated right in front of the fire. This was in January on a freezing day and there was COLD air blowing on me from the vent the whole time!! Why is the A/C on in the winter? Finally, given how long we had to wait to be seated and place our order I of course believe some sort of perk should have been offered, like a complimentary dessert or round of drinks... but nope, the apathetic staff didn't even seem to realize that we were practically neglected through our entire experience from start to finish. Also, there are multiple reviews mentioning rodent sightings lately? I will not be returning.

EDIT- THEY NOW HAVE RATS IS THIS RATATOUILLE OR SOMETHING ALMOST ALL 5 star reviews surely must be paid for, or from “influencers”…. So so rude! The service was awful, the food late and expensive, and everything was generally unwelcoming. The staff seemed pretty arrogant considering that ultimately their competitors are light years ahead, leaving clos maggiore to fester in the swamp of their own mediocrity

Food was good for a weekend lunch. It’s a shame as the tables weren’t connected, so 14 people were split between 2 groups. Further, the food didn’t come at once - which would have been absolutely fine if there was some communication and apology. The biggest negative though, is written below, which really ruined the experience to be honest. If you’re booking for a birthday; beware. We were a table of 14 and were asked to pay £8 each to eat our own cake - after paying for 3 courses each. We gave the choice of either eating our cake to finish the meal; or to remove the service charge. They decided the “cakeage” fee was fixed and so removed the service charge. Never been asked to pay “cakeage” before.

Pricey but definitely worth it for a special occasion. We had the tasting menu with the premium wine pairing. The food was amazing, especially the steak tartare, and the wine pairing was great but above all the service was the best. All the staff was really nice and treated us marvelously. The sommelier, called Andrea if I remember correctly, from Romania, was so helpful and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is also worth praising, with flowers hanging from the ceiling and a real fireplace that makes the setting so cozy. I'd definitely go again.

Amazing food, fantastic service, thoroughly delightful. Highly recommend. Not the cheapest place, but it's such a stunning restaurant the price barely matters. We had the tuna and the macaroni as starters, both were nothing short of perfect. The plating was impeccable, almost too good to eat! The taste was divine. For our mains we both had the beef. There isn't a superlative to demonstrate just how good the beef i! We have no photos, it was too good to wait for photos. So tender and delicate, it actually melted on the tongue!. Thank you for making an amazing anniversary evening

Couple of little niggles. We waited around 25 minutes to be seated after our booked time. In fairness, we were given a free drink - firstly, prosecco - however one person is in recovery, one doing dry January, would've nice to be asked alcoholic or non-alcoholic Then when the drink came it kind of smelt like wet dog HOWEVER - As soon as we were seated everything was perfection. The food, the decor, the ambience, the service. So, putting our initial welcome down to a blip. Would go again

My husband and I visited Clos Maggiore yesterday for a late celebration of our 22nd anniversary, and it was nothing short of perfection! This was our second time dining at this gem of a restaurant, and once again, it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was enchanting. The intimate, romantic setting, especially under the stunning conservatory with twinkling lights, made the evening feel so special. The service was impeccable—attentive, warm, and professional without ever being intrusive. And the food? Absolutely divine. Every dish was a work of art, from presentation to taste. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s skill, with bold flavors and perfectly balanced textures. The attention to detail was remarkable, and it truly made the evening unforgettable. Thank you, Clos Maggiore, for making our celebration so memorable. We can’t wait to return again for another special occasion!

I was a guest under someone else’s reservation. This dump is the worst waste of money, and more importantly my time, in London. The food is terrible, but the staff is the worst I have ever experienced. London is already very expensive without getting ripped off by this place. To be avoided at all costs! Don’t let a visit here ruin your time in London!
