I am really struggling to understand Why does this place has such good reviews? Yes the views are wonderful and the scones are nice but really!!! I visited here many years ago. It was waitress service with china cups and proper cutlery. Today we were herded in a very confusing queue after a self serve buffet. The plates and cups were paper, the cutlery was a cheap wooden affair and it was expensive. My memories were of fabulous views (still there) with a quintessential English tea feel with charm and elegance. What we got was very far removed, no charm, no magic. I feel the National Trust has really lost its way. What worries me more is that people think it's great to have this bland, charmless experience!!! Sorry!! Great place, fantastic castle, abhorrent cafe experience.

Needed to get a lunch for grandchild so had a kids box. The sandwich was most disappointing. A brown roll, no butter or spread, and filled with chunks of cheese. So everytime he took a bit cheese fell out. We didn't eat ourselves as we had a cream tea from the cafe on a previous occasion, and the scone was terrible, worst we have had for a long time. Now that you have to pay for either the house or gardens to visit the island then the food, and cost of food, needs to improve

Following a long trek up to the top of St Michaels Mount and a fabulous visit to the castle, we stopped here for a well earned rest and some refreshments. Thoroughly enjoyed the cream tea with freshly made scones, Cornish clotted cream and strawberry jam, all washed down with piping hot coffee, complete with beautiful views overlooking the coastline. Absolutely delightful.

We only had coffees which were very nice. The couple next to us had pasties which they said were good - They looked like Prima pasties which are one of the better 'mass produced' pasties, they were £1 more than the usual price but then we were on an island - pasty import duty probably 😉 It's a lovely spot for refreshments, we were there about 11am, not during school holiday, and it filled up quickly.

Fantastic homemade pasties Met a lovely friend for a walk across the causeway and lunch at the harbour. We had a wonderful walk around the harbour then went to the cafe where we initially chose a sandwich. We then saw (and smelt!) the pasties and decided to have one each. They were the best pasties we'd had in a long time (and we're both Cornish and very picky!). We asked who their supplier was ... they're made on the island! Outstanding!

I understand that there must be an increased cost in bringing ingredients to the island. I understand that prices have been high for some time. With that in mind, I would expect higher prices for what are, essentially, luxury items. When you only want a snack, however, to be charged over £33.0 for 4 sausage rolls and 4 regular hot chocolates seems more than excessive. I have no problem with the quality of the food, but surely, at some point, those in charge of pricing should have thought "£4.50 for a sausage roll, perhaps over the top?". Of course, I did not have to buy. Of course, I could have brought a picnic. But if you're going to provide a café, you should consider how your pricing could be more realistic, and if you're unable to provide your fare at a lower price, perhaps reduce your menu and do it that way. I'm not a café owner, just a regular bloke with a family, trying to enjoy a day out. As much as I enjoyed the island, on a rainy day in the Easter holiday, paying that much for so little will certainly make me think twice before using similar facilities in the future.

Rip off! £2.20 for 1 shortbread round biscuit! Not a pack, just 1! Also hot chocolate only half filled tiny cup. The rest was filled with cream. It felt like an empty cup so I moved the cream and asked for it to be filled. The lady said “I can put more milk in?” So I replied “can you put some more hot chocolate in?” £3.50 for half an already small cup. They know you have no-where else to go. Not good value at all. 😡

We used to go to this cafe when you could just walk over without paying to get on the Mount, all freshly made it was lovely, now unfortunately it is completely different, all sandwiches pre made in plastic wrapping, drinks were poor. 2 sandwiches, 2 buns and 2 drinks , £30,,,,, won’t be coming in here again and I feel lucky we didn’t have to pay to get on the Mount due to the time of year

£2.35 for a can of coke; £3.60 for a small tub of ice cream. Disgusting and greedy prices. Queued to get these for myself and my children and when I said it was the most I’ve ever spent on a single can of coke; the staff member rudely said ‘I’ve paid more before’. We were going to eat there but actually with that attitude and prices we decided to wait until we got back to the town. It’s a cafe which takes advantage of people which I didn’t like at all! The only cafe open on st michaels mount mean they have the monopoly. It’s disgusting. I’ve paid less at the theatre for a small tub of ice cream for my child! You get a whole tub in supermarkets and they say to support local businesses!

Overpriced and poor quality. Lots of grab & go food to cater for the crowds on the island but wished we’d taken a packed lunch, or waited until we were back on the mainland. Average pasties but the low point was a bacon roll, priced at £4.50 - the bread was so hard my son couldn’t eat it. £4.50 spent for him to eat some greasy bacon. We love St Michaels Mount but we won’t return to the cafe next time we visit.

We ordered 4 pasties and chips. Tasty pasty but we waited an hour for 4 the portions of chips. Basically this place is overrun. It's also at least a 30 minute wait to get served, and we started queueing at 2:15pm. It isn't set up to cope with the number of people they are allowing on the island. It's supposed to be limited by ticket but that is a bit of a joke. There were thousands on the island. Only go here if you have a lot of spare time and don't mind being sandwiched in everywhere you go.

Terrible customer service. Queued for ages to be told that there was no sandwiches and hot food not available until 12pm, would have been handy to of had a notice on entry. Wouldn’t allow us to pay and wait til 12pm (we were 15 minutes out) as the solo chef ‘wouldn’t be able to keep up with early orders’. Staff spent time shouting at customers to keep back. I know Covid regs have to be adhered to but manners and adequate staffing would be of great benefit to this business. My advice… bring a packed lunch!

Having queued for a long time we ordered sandwiches for 2 adults and 2 children’s bags for the children. We thought that the price was high but thought that it must be worth it. £6.25 for the children’s bag: a ham or cheese roll, a packet of crisps and an apple. The adult sandwiches were nice (although not worth £6.50 each) but I was shocked at the quality of the children’s bag. The roll was stale, the cheese was sweaty and for the price it was a shocking and disappointing lunch. We are more than happy to support local businesses as they have been closed for so long, however the effort put into £12.50 worth of children’s meals was poor and if an establishment wishes to charge this, they need to make it worth the money.

Having had a lovely boat trip to St Michael's Mount and climbed to the castle we were ravenous. So the 7 of us joined a rather long queue, looking forward to a tasty lunch.About an hour into our wait (hot sunny day in half-term), a member of staff walked towards the menu board and then proceeded to talk to different groups in the queue. After speaking to about 4 ot 5 groups he stopped and cut his way past the table I was sitting at. I stopped him and explained I hadn't heard what he had said. He told me they were out of steak pasties. I checked if the sausage nap was still on the menu and rather dismissively told me that was for breakfast only.I asked what savoury food was available. Sandwiches and salad bowls.Disappointed but starving we decided to stay in the queue.About 20 minutes later and just 2 groups ahead of our party, the same man came to the menu board close to us and put a white rectangle across the pasty description. The lady in front was incensed by this and in an off hand manner told her that he had been along the queue 20 minutes ago informing people of this.He certainly had not been along this section of the queue. We then were able to see what sandwiches were available: ham and mustard or cheddar (vegan option available and chutney...for £6.50!!! And the crab sandwich £12.95!!!!!We were flabbergasted by this and we chose the children's bag which contained a roll (ham or cheese), crisps, a carton of juice and a chocolate bar (should have been a piece of fruit but they had run out of fruut). It was quite an incredulous experience and not one to be repeated. So to sum up:1. Why, on a day during half term would you run out of pasties? Poor ordering management?2. Why was there no warning when stock was getting low did no one come to inform the queue?3. Why did the man lie about telling everyone in the queue?4. Why is everything so expensive?5. National Trust...is this cafe run by you or is is a concession? If you have anything to do with it/profit from it, you ought to be ashamed.

We stopped here to get something to eat after the mammoth expedition to visit the castle at the top of St Michael’s Mount.I decided to have a chicken Caesar salad wrap (it was stated that it also came with: seasonal salad and some salted crisps. After a long wait for a waiter to bring the food to our table, I soon discovered that the salad was dressed in a vingerette along with LOTS of mustard seeds.Nowhere on the menu did it state this. And how can they presume that everybody wants a dressed salad full of mustard seeds.Crazy logic.I thought at this point, abandon the salad and concentrate on the wrap.Well after one bite, I got a strong taste of vinegar and our old friend, the mustard seed!!.To my knowledge, Caesar Sauce does NOT contain vinegar and mustard seeds, however this “variation” did.I was extremely disappointed and upon confrontation, the management stated that this is how it has been served for many years.Just because something has been served the same way for many years, doesn’t make it correct. The menu should be clearly updated to reflect the hidden mustard seeds and dressing.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

We were looking for lunch and the only gluten-free options were sandwiches (too risky when prepared in the same place as normal ones) and cakes. The cakes were kept separately from other ones - well done! Unfortunately, they were not dairy free so we only had a small bag of overpriced crisps and a cup of coffee.Still, this was better than the other restaurant on the island where they have no allergen control whatsoever.Overall, a disappointment.

Our party of 6 came here after walking across to have coffee and cake whilst watching the tide come in. On walking into the café, which was almost empty at 11.30am, two young members of staff were standing about behind the counter having a chat. They saw us and carried on chatting whilst we stood there aghast.Eventually they deigned to serve us - not a hint of a smile, please, thank you etc. The coffee was lukewarm and bang average. We decided not to try the cakes/food although it did look nice as we weren't going to contribute to the profits of such an unfriendly place.Won't be back and won't recommend. Ever.

The scone was stale and was definitely not home made in any way shape or form. It was a dried up, ready made, tasteless excuse for a scone. I actually only wanted one but was given two regardless and threw the second away it was that bad. I can’t complain about the clotted cream (that was the only saving grace). It’s such a shame because the cafe itself is lovely and the view and decor are perfect! The cream tea was such a let down, especially when I’d been looking forward to one all week! Having just left two very positive reviews of eateries from our holiday in Cornwall this year - unfortunately the Island Cafe was not a great experience. Any enjoyment was spoilt by surly, unsmiling service - admittedly chiefly from one member of staff (young, female, glasses and short blonde, highlighted hair). Her 'everything is too much trouble' attitude made for a somewhat unpleasant experience. To be fair I think her poor attitude was rubbing off on the other staff. When I asked very politely whether a particular cake was with almonds she didn't bother to respond, simply moving away as fast as possible and informing me that I should help myself if I wanted cake.

I visited twice during my recent trip to the Lizard Peninsula. Great coffee, wonderful freshly prepared food. Cream teas, pasties, soup, wraps. Separate ice cream hut. Tables inside and outside.

We decided to stop for a bite to eat as we were already on the island and I am so glad we did. My daughter had pasta and we had a sandwich which were both amazing. The beef was thickly cut and the baps were fresh and tasty! It was slightly expensive but it was worth every penny!

It was good weather today so made the most of the garden area and soaked up the sunshine and fabulous view. Extremely well maintained and the best cappuccino I've had in a long time. Certainly worth the walk over on the causeway.

There were not enough things on the menu to choose from but I guess that they want to keep things simple. It is a very busy cafe but the outdoor sitting area is amazing. Staff very good.

Nice coffee, very busy and glad it was warm and dry enough to sit outside. Price a bit on the high side but did have free water from a dispenser near to the till. Food range seemed a bit on the limited side but did smell nice.

A really nice location and well laid out cafe, comfortable and clean. I had a cheese and onion pasty which was really tasty and a pot of tea. I really liked it here. The only downside is the lack of variety on the menu. My partner is vegan and unfortunately there was nothing on the menu for him. The chef was really good and whipped a salad up for him, but in this day in age and in a spot visited by a wide variety of people, I'd really expect to see at least one dish on the menu that is suitable for vegans and that is a bit more substantial than a salad. Most of the NT properties that we go to have a soup or a special on the menu that is vegan, so we presumed it would be similar at St Michael's Mount. It is a really lovely place though and I would recommend it if you don't have any special dietary requirements. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We had lunch here while visiting the island. I had the creamed tea which can with two scones with jam and clotted cream. My husband had the steak pasty which he thought was really good. We sat out on the terrace and had a lovely view of the sea.

Had a nice lunch - good tasty food plenty of it - my club sandwich was huge. Cakes lovely and a piping hoy cuppa ( with enough in the pot for a good two cups) - yes on the dearer side ( couple of quid more than the mainland) but your in yer holidays treat yourself!Staff efficient and friendly when very busy

Had a salad for lunch. Considering the location and audience it was keenly priced . The mackerel salad was good and nicely presented. Tend to avoid these places but would happily go again to this one.

We visited the Mount on a very cold, wet, windy day. The Island Cafe provided a refuge from the weather and gave us the opportunity to warm up over hot drinks and cake. Like all NT tea rooms it was a bit overpriced, but the cakes were delicious. My teapot was a terrible pourer and distributed more tea over the table than in the cup, but I was instantly given an apology and another pot.

Simple cafe menu - I didn't really enjoy my cheese and onion pasty (too much white/grey pepper in it) but my partner liked his Cornish one. Rather expensive for what it was (two pasties and two small individual portion bottles of wine). I can see they probably get monster busy at peak times like summer holidays so have to keep the menu streamlined then for efficiency but would have been nice to have a little more choice. The mount is obviously a great setting though!

Had tea, coffee and 2 BLT sandwiches for lunch before going round castle. Was very nice and gorgeous views across to the mainland. My only quibble is that I thought it was a little pricey at £18 for the above.

We used to love popping in here when we were in Truro, you would be lucky to get a seat but now it’s take your pick. In a nutshell the place has lost its soul.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.
