Irene's supper Bar in The Vale of Glamorgan

Expensive for what you get. Bought 2 cod, lathe chips and curry sauce. Everything was cold and the fish had clearly been sat for 30+ minutes. It's wrong that they charge so much for food that needs to be microwaved to be enjoyable.

Cold, undercooked and unsalted Made the mistake of going again and it was worse

Had 2 large cod with chips ,the fish must have been kept warm for ages as the batter and the fish was baked hard , could not eat 75% of it , it's a shame as Irene's is usually good.

Haven't had a chippy for years nice treat

Food was nice as usual just cost of a bag of chips is a little steep though for my liking 2.95 for a small bag

We've just this afternoon had fish and chips after travelling up from cardiff as heard they were the best, so disappointed fish very dry and chips were hard and had about 10 unfortunately won't be back

Totally disappointed. Went here few weeks ago and lovely fish. Went Saturday at about 3pm and they were putting all fresh fish in the heater. Had a small cod and by the time I got home about 4 mins later, the paper was soaking and see through with the amount of oil leaking through. Fish was horrendous and just full of oil. Had to bin half of it

Large cod Fish was the size of a jumbo sausage in batter ... large portion of chips would serve 1 child, soggy batter awful ... and it cost £10!!!

Fantastic chippy. Location: not far from Barry Island / Porthkerry / surrounding areas. Bought two meals for £9. Reasonably priced. But the food is second to none. 👍

Terrible fish shop small portion of chips about 20 Cold chips in bag microwaved pie and gave me the wrong curry sauce the girl behind the counter isnt the full shilling both people serving were like something out of deleverance very weird people a bit like the twilight zone stay away from this place worst chip shop in wales.

Food is ok but not the best, tried halloumi fries for the first time and they were absolutely disgusting they tasted of grease and like eating rubber made me feel very sick after just 1. Very rude staff members who also made us use the card machine for a 10p bag.

The cauliflower was really nice and I'd say if you like cauliflower cheese you'll like this. Chips are lovely and the young lady serving me put on just the right amount of salt and vinegar 😍

The portion of chips in the tray was woefully inadequate. The sausage in batter was inedible...honestly you should be doing be doing better than this. I have been eating chips from here for years and I am so disappointed. However the piece of extreme resistance was the lumpy gravy...check it out for yourself. Please do better.

Prices have gone up which is expected. However when the price of haddock is more than the cod but half the size I think that needs rethinking. Overall great quality food as always and the service always great.

Couldn't believe they did an OAP option. Just the right size, affordable price, delicious food.

Went here at lunchtime 12pm. The young lady behind the counter (with red & blonde hair) was excellent. Smiled when I walked in and said hello to me. Was able to answer my question about the curry sauce, which allowed me to make the right choice. The pricing is great for the portion size. You could even charge a little bit more. Definitely recommend this place to anyone to try.

Food tasted amazing and fresh, didn't feel like it had been sat out all day, quite cheap compared to other places I've been to, really good if you're in Barry and fancy something to eat. I will definitely visit again.

Been useing this place for years but after reading some of the other review many people start off with the same sentence then follow with a negative review so in all the years of fantastic service to the community and people of Barry you haven't left a positive feedback but are happy to slate a business it's sad but I can assure everyone the food is still on point and great value for money you won't be disappointed

Had lovely fish and chips there just last night and 2 jumbo Sausages for the dog. The fish was gorgeous batter was nice a crispy, great service will be visiting again definitely

Food was disgusting and the member of staff e.g the girls were so rude... I would rather go down the road to finnegans instead at least you don't get burnt and rude staff in finnegans but here at Irene's you get rude after rude... food burnt...

DISGUSTING! Cold dry manky chips, a rank jumbo sausage not fit for consumption, Went in the bin! Don't waste your money here!! Seriously vile.

Complete load of rubbish served Visited here last night after a busy stressful week hopping for a quick and easy meal, as stated it was a load of rubbish served. My husband wanted chicken curry off the bone more like chicken skin and chips, staff was also disgustingly rude and did not want to help as they could see I was stressed with a big order for my family. We then proceeded to ring up and tell them about the problems as the chicken wasn’t the only one as our pie wasn’t cooked and only had a spoonful of chips not enough to go between us all as she knew, they said to come down the next day to resolve this problem and, wasted my time again as they just turned us away will never receive food from here again food and service was disgusting with a side rude members off staff.

Used to be really good. Now the chips are always manky and there's hardly any. I don't eat a lot and there's not even enough chips for me. The prices seem to go higher and the food is less quality and amount. Its our local and been using for awhile however we will be looking elsewhere for a chippy now.

Not good for me. Horrible chips, cardboard chicken, and micro wave from frozen steak pie. Great if you like that sort of thing. But not for me.

a mean chippy. i had two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.

This one came in as 3rd best chippy in Barry recently. Fish is average, piled up in the cabinet. Master Fryer and Catch of the Day are years ahead of Irene's Supper Bar.

witnessed staff question a customer with disabilities over exemption of wearing a facemask. The woman explained she was exempt and was asked to provide proof which is not required.

as a regular customer refused service for being exempt from wearing facemask, when I explained that I was exempt I was questioned over this. Staff then requested a show proof, this has made me feel anxious that I needed to prove why I wasn't wearing a mask.Avoid buying any food from here, there are better, shops in barry to go.

No pies which we purchased in our bag just chips.

Food was hot when severed and waiting time was minimal.

Love this place lately, they've really pulled their socks up and improved their food, didn't go their for a while cause their prices went up and their food was a little lacking but it feels like they've gone back to their former glory, all the staff are lovely aswell which helps, especially the young blonde girl, she's always really polite and helpful

They could not accept my normal bank card that I use every time. Bit embarrassing and the food was cold. It was wrapped and put to one side for the 10 minutes I had to go and get cash. I will take cash and card with me to save anymore embarrassment. And cold food

Absolutely love this place! Chips fresh & crispy every time and the portions are generous. Yes it's a little pricy when you compare it to fish & chip shops away from the seaside when you're visiting but you're paying for quality. A big win is definitely the fish bites, they're more like mini fish and come in 3 or 5 portions!

Disappointed, I normally tell people how nice the chips are here, this dinner time however they were rock hard they certainly wernt light and fluffy inside. This has put me off now, I had to push the fork just to get it in the chips.

£3.25 for a kids meal that doesn't come with drink or normal sausage and chips for £2.80. When I asked staff they fed me the line...

Very hit and miss at the moment. There was a time it was very consistent but countless times i find myself giving in and going back despite having said after previous meals that's my last time. I find the batter on the fish is usually not quite done not everytime but it is a problem. The main problem is portioning honestly some times I've order 2 large bags between 2 of us just to be sure and still always tiny to the point where my girlfriend even says and tbh that is a rare occasion. I hate to moan over the ammount of chips infront of other customers just makes you look petty but honestly for this reason I probably wont be coming back anymore if has happened so many times I just cant be bothered to chance it. I think it's because they have alot of young staff coming and going and tbh without sounding rude some seem pretty clueless.

Decidedly average at best. Really poor at its worst. Last time that I bought food from there the chips were so undercooked, I threw the lot away. Anybody that rates this place highly has never eaten decent freshly cooked fish and chips. Best avoided.

Great fish and chips. Cod cooked fresh. Large cod with large chips. £7, too many chips in a large for £2.30, should have gone for a small at £1.70. but great value and great tasting.

Great menu great fish and chips but make sure you are hungry portions are huge.

Stone cold good and bad attitude when they are told about it

The food tasted absolutely awful, we couldn't finish our meals. My chips were uncooked most of the way through, my sausage was way to greasy and looked as though it could have done with a couple more minutes being cooked. My brother's rice was stone cold and my fiancé kept finding chicken that was pink throughout. His chips were absolutely swimming in vinegar too.
