Big Sams Fish & Chips in The Vale of Glamorgan

Terrible piece of fish, it was as dry as the bones it once had. I couldn't eat in case the dry flakes got caught in my throat. In my humble opinion I feel it was left from lunch trade....it was dry. I WILL NEVER purchase from here again. The price of cod is very expensive right now and as the paying customer I would like it cooked whilst I wait. No excuses about that it was for delivery .....there are no excuses in the hospitality industry. Farnhams in Boverton cooked it perfectly whilst I waited....delicious 😋

I ordered 2 chicken curries and chips. they messed up on the order and gave me curry sauce by mistake. They had to be reminded that a refund was needed as I had paid for the the curry sauce and the curry, they did not want to give any money back initially just another portion of chips, 3 portions of chips for 2 people !!!. They did give me a refund in the end but short changed me on this. Things only got worse, We opened the plastic containers which the curries were in and there was half an inch of cooking oil floating on the top, my partner binned hers without even trying it, I tried to eat mine, bit it was not fit to feed to a dog, it is the worst curry, I have ever had in my life. I asked for my money back, threatening them with a bad google review, but still refused. I see my complaint is not the only one on here. Finishing on a positive the chips were nice, but we certainly wont be returning to this establishment again

Fish and chips chips were hard not fresh they tried to say it’s the potato! They have changed their merchandise to another dealer? 😂witch is rubbish!

If I am paying £32 for food. I expect it be fresh. Not rubbery and reheated from wheneverit was cooked before!!!. Threw it in the bin Disgusting!!!!

This place is a testimony to the fact that kids will eat anything. Seriously overcooked, hard chicken and chips that should have a health warning. Take away only so didn’t see food being wrapped, got home and saw the dismal state of it. Grandkids wolfed it, though 😳

Food was delivered in less than 10 minutes. Bad sign when you order chicken. I would rather wait another hour and get fresh food. Never order chicken from here, it had been sitting in the hot hold for far too long, the chicken had detached from the breading, and it had cooked even more in the hot hold, making the outside like a cracker. Burnt and inedible. Chicken itself wasnt even seasoned. Make your chicken fresh, its no secret it sits in the hot hold for sometimes hours, maybe because you like the aesthetic of it there but you can tell its not ordered as its clearly been out a long time. Chips are normally redeemable but this time they were soggy, cold, and undercooked. How is food cold when its delivered in 10 minutes. Somethings really wrong there recently, willing to give it another chance but if the qualities still as bad id expect a refund.

Truly the worst takeaway I have ever had, cold chicken kebab that looked disgusting with grease soaked pitta sitting underneath on the top of the smallest most unappealing portion of salad, even more frustrating is that we ordered two kebabs but they delivered three so we had to pay for an extra unedible supper, this is the first time we have ordered from Big Sams and it's most definitely the last, absolute waste of hard earned money

Terrible quality food that frequently gives food poisoning and no freshly prepared food. Rude owner who will deliberately act to spite you. Avoid at all costs, you'd be better eating anywhere else in Llantwit, including eating supermarket food and manure.

Always wenthere as the food used to be amazing. No more. Chips were full of grease and not nice at all. Chicken kebab had stale pitta bread. Southern fried chicken not cooked properly. Had raw coating at one point whislt eating it. Chicken really greasy and bumpy. Awful. Really gone down hill.

Won't be going there again, far to expensive

We stayed at nash point camping and rang big sams for a delivery. It was no problem for them, within an hour we were eating our delicious tea, I had fish and chips and my wife had a pizza. Absolutely outstanding. Would highly recommend. Thanks Big Sam's.

Slowest chipshop in the world........most places have chips ready to go but every time I've been there you have to wait 10 minutes for a simple bag of chips. Doner kebab tasted like a beer mat. 🫣😭

Worst customer service i have ever recieved aand i travel the country constantly

I was in this shop Saturday night and waited 40 minutes for fish and chips when I inquired about my order I was informed delivery’s come first, I demanded my money back and will never use this shop again

How is it possible, on a Saturday night, to wait over 20 minutes for chips?!? Not a pizza! Not a kebab! Not Chicken! Just chips ?!! Surely the management know how many people eat chips in Llantrisant and can cook them In advance.?! Poor management. The cashier with the attitude couldn’t care less. Shameful. Update. Having spoken to the cashier after 25 minutes of waiting for a simple order. , apparently “deliveries take priority”. The cashier was jumped up and had attitude. No apologies.

Had to pay cash here unfortunately. There is a cash point just outside though. Pizza 🍕 onion rings, sausage and chips, kids chicken nuggets and chips. All really nice!

I popped in for chips after an afternoon at the beach. They tasted fine, but the portion seemed small for £2.50, and was served in a polystyrene tray with a plastic fork - not exactly ethical. I paid with a £10 note and the person who served me tried to give me change for £5. I'm partially-sighted, and this is the first time anybody has tried to take advantage of that. I won't be back. Edit: Thanks for the insulting reply Big Sam's! I'm not a liar, just an unsatisfied customer. How rude!

Call in every Saturday to buy chips to go with my food from the Chinese as prefer big sams chips lovely size portions

There was so much barbecue sauce, it had spilled out of the carton, through the paper and into the carrier bag. The pictures are after I've tried to pour the excess sauce away and you can see how covered it still is.

I waited 30 mins for a pie and chips; Sam will say it wasn’t that long but then he would wouldn’t he. They were clearly prioritising the on line orders and not filling them in accordance with who had been there the longest. Not even a ‘sorry you’ve had to wait’ just an aggressive response. Poor customer service. Quality was only average, lots of chips but it’s not all about quantity. First and last time for me, Farnhams are a million times better.

Appalling customer service and so so food. Visited on a Friday evening so was obviously going to be busy. But. On line orders were dealt with to the detriment of people actually in the shop. I stood for 30 minutes waiting for pie and chips whilst delivery drivers came and went. When I complained I was belittled. After all that,chips 6/10 and the pie was lukewarm and had no meat in it. Went in this evening to get a couple of pieces of fried chicken. There were two customers waiting for fish to be cooked the chicken was in the counter ready to be served. I paid for the chicken then was told I had to wait for the food to be cooked for the other customers before I could have the chicken. Why make customers wait when there is no need?

First time visiting this place after an afternoon on the beach. Absolutely stunning food. Lovely chips and decent prices...very nice!! I'll be back.

We are new to the area and after a very hectic day decided on takeaway for tea. We both ordered the large mixed meat kebab and wow must be honest it's the best kebab we have ever had 😋 fresh, hot and really tasty. The tray was that full we couldn't finish them. Superb value for money thank you 😊

We stayed in Llantwit Major for a few days, and was told to go to Big Sams. So glad we did. Definitely on the to-do-list again when we visit Llantwit Major again. Thank you

I wouldn't if I was you . You warmed paste up in microwave lol and I was put in to long . Pie got no meat in them . Cheap food end of ..... replying to that. You must be buying multi package pastes and pie . Which are smaller . Which can easy be checked!!

First time ordering from Big Sam's in Llantwit Major. Placed an order for collection this evening. Chips, curry sauce, sausage in batter, corned beef pasty and steak and kidney pie....pretty standard chippy tea! Pasty and pie were terrible. Pastry was rock hard from being microwaved to death and inedible. Steak pie was minus steak and/or kidney. My sausage and chips was okay but hubby's pie and pasty went in the bin and he ended up making chip buttys. Hubby called the shop to complain but they were not interested at all. Will not order from Big Sam's again. Edited to add a thank you to Big Sam's for their response below: confirming that you have no idea what's in your pies and showing your customers that you consider us stupid. Keep up the atrocious work :)

It was nice,lush chips not much flavour to the fish if I'm honest but still nice

The chips were fantastic! But the fish was a big let down. It looked very nice but obviously is a cheap fish 🐠 which doesn't make the grade any chip shop should be serving.

Absolutely dreadful customer service, I rang and asked to speak to the manager and the young boy said to him “ There’s a women on the phone banging on about she wants to speak to the manager “ He then replied in the background “ I make kebabs “ he didn’t have the decency to come on the phone and solve the matter after we just spent £83 in his shop! It’s not the first time they have messed our order up. None of us from the caravan site will be putting anymore money in his pocked that’s for sure.

Put vinegar on cod and refried it. I hate the stuff, ruined a family meal. Really not happy. Wont be going back.

Picked up a collection to get home and find out none off the sauces where put in the bag so my food was cold after going back to the shop and home again! When I went back to the shop to get my forgotten sauces the member off staff behind the till was telling a customer how rude I was on the phone about the sauces as I stood there and felt like they where making fun off me. I had paid extra for separate sauces so you would expect to get what you pay for and not hearing staff talk about you to customers.

Terrible service wouldn't recommend awful people working there no manners and rude not helpful at all waste of money and time

Great food, especially their chicken strips and their burgers. But don't order on their website. It seems that other orders and walk-in orders get priority over website orders. Today I waited 45 minutes to collect food, waiting 25 minutes after the time the order-tracker said it was ready. That's really not on.

Just received my second order, both times the food was delivered within half an hour. It was hot, really tasty and the cod was gorgeous. I'm happy.

Big Sam's what a let down. I have had takeaway and deliveries from you before that I couldn't fault. But unfortunately not this time after 21/2 hours and a phone call to check where our food was we eventually got some rubber chips obviously reheated, a pasty that had obviously been microwaved but for to long as it was very hard and dehydrated. My cod was like warm at best. A real shame worst was a young lad on the phone told me sorry we have been very busy lol not with rubber reheated chips.Big shame Big Sam's.

Best to order your dinner straight after lunch since it takes about 3 hours to arrive. Food arrives soggy and lukewarm, and nobody at the store has a clue what is going on or how to run a delivery service.

Good food, but it does take more than 2 hours for delivery. So order early.

I often have chips and stuff when passing through Llantwit, decided to try the kebabs, price was good and looked OK on the menu. But the actual food was bland and badly presented with minimum salad and pepper not chilli sauce. The place was busy with loads of phone orders and the service was slow. The staff were polite and apologise for the wait. I will stick to chips and avoid the kebabs, there are better options around.

I have had food here often. The pizzas are very good. My other half loves the kebabs but you always have to wait so long, even if you ring ahead. All guidelines followed and very clean place they are always cleaning. Maybe that’s why you wait so long for your order

Everyone we visit the area we have one evening of chips sat watching the sea. Deffo worth a visit and huge portions too

Walked to beach and town from campsite, plenty of places at the beach to eat or drink, then went to the town as we all fancied fish and chips.

We had two OAP portions of fish and chips which were the perfect portion size for us and so reasonably priced. Everything was crispy and perfectly cooked - not a soggy chip in sight!

Ordered Chicken and Mushroom pie and chips. All i received was a crusty dish and a bag of salted potatoes. This is not the 1st time ive had this problem but will definately be the last. Ill drive the extra mile and go to Bovrrton in future. Big Sams has lost my business. DISGUSTING !!!!!!!!!!

Just a consistently great place from which to grab some decent grub!

Great fish n chips....clever to put the fish separate to chips and the batter stays crispy.

Fish & chips great, price & service good. Can't fault it.
