We had the pleasure of enjoying afternoon tea last weekend, although we unfortunately ran into some heavy traffic on the way. Despite the delay, when I called to inform them, the staff were incredibly understanding and accommodating. They reassured us and kindly held everything for us until we arrived, which was such a relief. Once we finally made it, we were treated to an absolutely delightful experience. The teas and treats were not only beautifully presented but also delicious—easily some of my favorites! Each bite was better than the last, and the tea was brewed to perfection. The staff were wonderful throughout our visit. They were polite, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Their kindness really added to the experience. As for the atmosphere, it was nothing short of breathtaking. The interior was stunning, with beautiful decor and a warm, inviting vibe that made it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the afternoon. The view from our table was amazing, adding to the charm of the place. All in all, it was an absolutely gorgeous venue, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for a memorable afternoon tea experience!

A very high level of restaurant. Michelin star chef. An outstanding quality food presentation in an outstanding environment. The location of the castle is unbelievable. The staff is ultra professional with high standards of service. This is not a cheap place to eat and definitely not a place for someone who doesn’t understand style and etiquette. Be aware of the location and the place.

As 2 older women who wanted the experience of staying in a castle during our trip to Scotland our travel agency set us up for a 3 night stay at Inverlochy Castle June 7-9, 2024. We were disappointed. When we voiced our disappointment and frustration at check out we only got a I'm sorry and felt rushed to complete our check out. First to be put in a room that was not in the castle itself but in the "Garden House" room. Then when we arrived back to the castle after a day out we entered the main Castle to have drinks and to order a meal to have in the cocktail area as we did not have a reservation. When we entered we were questioned if we were even staying there, then we were told we could not order a meal until after 9 pm as they were serving the dinner meals for those who had reservations. We were also ignored on several occasions as we waited to order or drinks. There was also the issue that when we returned to our room that the sliding glass doors were left open on the rear of our room when they cleaned the room. For the amount of money we paid it was very disheartening to say the least. They said we could go to the "PUB" and have a meal there. Well, it was not a pub but an over rated small dining venue that only offered one option for a meal. Again, we were disappointed. I do hope to visit Scotland again in the future with my husband but we WILL NOT BE STAYING AT Inverlochy Castle.

We have had Afternoon tea at the Inverlochy Castle in the last 4-5 years and we always loved it. Unfortunately, this year (2024) we were very disappointed by the quality of the food - the sandwiches were too salty and not well balanced between savours. The scones were doughy in the middle as were the macaroons. We were also unsure how fresh the cakes were either, Given the status and standards of the place, we would have expected matching quality of the food served for a quite pricy afternoon tea. We hope the quality of the food will be brought back to where it was in the previous years.

Building which is impressive at first glance with a very pretty park but in fact quite recent compared to the many historic castles in the region. Disappointing stay overall, particularly for the poor level of service at reception. The restaurant is ok but largely exceeded by the new tables opened recently in the region. The decoration of the rooms needs to be refreshed and the bathrooms redone. Value for money not up to par.

The setting for this afternoon tea is in A castle! It's a real castle. The entrance is elegant, and you walk through the doors into a different era. The host guided us to where we would have our afternoon tea, a vast sitting room overlooking the grounds. Very beautiful. We could see sheep in the background. The tea service was very ample. If you are in Fort William, do consider having afternoon tea.

Step into the atmosphere of Downton Abbey 😍😍😍 Just driving up to the chateau is breathtaking, such a beautifully landscaped park. Entering the central hall is like in series such as Downton Abbey and Bridgerton. The reception by the staff is hospitable, friendly and neat. Had afternoon tea here, including a glass of pink champagne. We were served this in an attractive room with comfortable sofas and armchairs. The only thing missing in terms of atmosphere was soft (classical) background music. As a result, we sometimes had to try a little harder to ignore the eating sounds or conversations of other guests. Everything we were served all tasted delicious. A broccoli soup, cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, smoked salmon sandwich, scones with clotted cream and jam, a cake that tastes like English Christmas pudding (full of half almonds) and so on. Choice of coffee or various teas. It all tasted incredibly delicious, no doubt about it. The view from space was impressive. Beautiful park with mature trees and shrubs, with many shrubs in bloom. And a view over a meadow with cows, including a Highland Cow. There is no specific dress code for afternoon tea (as far as we know). We suspect that a dress code does apply for dinner, given the number of basic jackets that were hanging in the men's toilet. As Western Europeans, we thought we should dress as neatly as possible for this afternoon tea, even though we have an active walking holiday in Scotland. We were amazed at how (sorry, American) guests dressed. Or better said, not adapting to the environment. Or as they say so beautifully in English, dress to the occasion. The staff will treat these guests no differently than people who dress according to the environment. Our personal opinion is that dressing a little nicer will benefit the experience. Moreover, this is an expression of respect for the history of the building, the hotel staff and the other guests.

Inverlochy Castle is a stunning historic hotel offering a unique and peaceful escape. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, with grand interiors and beautiful grounds whispering tales of the past. The staff are excellent, providing attentive and friendly service. If you're seeking a tranquil retreat steeped in history, Inverlochy Castle is perfect. However, it's important to note the serene atmosphere. This might not be ideal for families with young children or those looking for a lively hotel experience. The atmosphere was non existent. The food was extortionately over priced and not impressive in quality or quantity. I stay in many places but don’t write many reviews as generally all is said. However, here the dinner reviews don’t match my experience and almost put me off going. The castle and grounds are stunning, the photos really don’t do it justice. The whole evening was very special and didn’t feel like another restaurant. They do achieve the feel of being a guest for dinner in a private house. A fixed menu is never going to please everyone and it’s an expensive evening, but I enjoyed everything. I have been lucky enough to have eaten in many truly amazing restaurants around the World and am a committed fan of the Roux family and their brand. However sadly our experience here was a massive disappointment. We arrived, as asked, at 7pm. We were left standing for several minutes with staff standing around looking as if they were unsure what they were doing. Canapes eventually appeared although the Chef brought them to a central table and we were invited to help ourselves. I guess we could have asked that they be served to us but it would have been good if that had been offered. Five waiting staff then stood around chatting to each other giving the impression, as there were only a few guests, that it was massively overstaffed. We had a lovely window table but although the food was mainly very good the lamb was horrendously over salted and the whole main course tepid. We ordered the wine pairing package but I explained I cannot drink red wine. Rather than offering me another glass of the pairing white wine, the waiter asked if I would prefer a glass of the house Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. When I politely asked to stay on the same white he looked rattled and irritated. When (like another table) we pointed out that our whole main was not even warm, he listened and apologised and said that he would advise the Chef. No further apology was made or any gesture given. When the bill came there was not even a minor amount taken off and so I complained. The senior waiter disappeared to talk to his manager and reappeared 15 minutes later while we were left standing waiting to leave. Eventually we received a grudging £40 discount. The bill was nearly £500 but the service was ill mannered and not befitting the Roux standards. I would never go back and cannot recommend that anyone should go there

What a fabulous stay!!! This whole trip was set up around my birthday from my boyfriend, and the travel agency helped make sure that my birthday this year would be memorable. Inverlochy Castle was perfect. All the staff were hospitable and super friendly. The food was fantastic and the dinner was superb. We booked dinner reservations for my birthday, and it did not disappoint. All the staff was absolutely magnificent, I cannot stress that enough, and I must give a shout out to Stewart, the night porter. After our dinner, a few of us stayed up quite late drinking and talking, and Stewart made sure we were comfortable and taken care of. He also spoke with me about all things pertaining to the castle, the area, and Scotland in general. Please let him know that he made our night that more enjoyable. I highly recommend the castle for a stay, even if it is just one night. We will be coming back to stay again when visiting Scotland. Thank you to the entire staff. It truly was amazing!!

We had dinner on September 1, 2022, in the evening. Our experience was terribly disappointing. Concerning the setting, nothing to say, it is absolutely exceptional. Warm welcome by the person, in an idyllic setting, just like the phantasmagoria of the Scottish castles. The aperitif is of very good level, champagne at will, delicious oysters and standard petits fours for a gastronomic dinner But what a disappointment afterwards... The salmon, whose locality is highlighted...flavor totally overshadowed by the BBQ cooking method. Cutting and presentation made us lose all the beautiful texture of the product... The lamb...an impossible amount of fat to eat, average cooking... The cheese, bland, presented in the mode "like in the canteen of my childhood". And what can I say about the gluten-free bread that was served to me, I felt like I was eating the bread served in low cost airplanes, still bagged. I'm not talking about the dessert. The general presentation of the dishes is very far from what you see in pictures on the website... This is only my experience, and that of my wife who totally agrees with me. So when I compare it to the gastronomic restaurants that we had the opportunity to visit or simple high quality restaurants, such as the "Number One Balmoral Restaurant" Edinburgh whose experience is at the height of what we have the right to expect from a great restaurant, we can only be disappointed. I even left the table to tell you how angry I was about the lack of consideration for the customers at the table

The format has changed and is now a set tasting menu but food and service was outstanding and the regular interaction with the chefs was an added treat. This was suppose to be a wonderful evening on our honeymoon but instead we felt like we had just been robbed, utterly disappointed. When you spend $700 on a dinner for 2 you’d expect flawless food, we were served food that was littered with bones ranging in small splinter pieces to full backbone knuckles, not just in one course but 2 of the 3 not including desert. When I brought it to the attention of the staff they showed no care at all. The price this establishment charges and the food/service they provide is criminal. They then over-charged us $350, which it took them a whole day to get back to me and process a refund that will take a few days. This establishment should be ashamed of themselves. If you are thinking of spending an evening here do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, you’ll eat better food and save yourself $650 down the road at the pub

I applaud what they are trying to do at this high end restaurant at the wonderful Inverlochy Castle Hotel, namely to replicate the high-end, elegant dining experience from hotels of old. The setting is from a movie set. Well-decorated and appointed rooms with high ceilings, and views of the pastures and mountain ranges. Men are told to wear coats, and everyone is told to leave cell phones behind although inexplicably some apparently can't help themselves. Children are discouraged in the most friendly way possible, with suggestions that unless they are experienced at dining they should book a separate table in the library. Dinner starts with champagne and canapes in several rooms of the castle/mansion or on the patio. And then you are escorted to your table in one of three delightful rooms. The stage is well set for a terrific dinner. At 125 pounds a person, you expect something extraordinary. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of high-priced, predetermined menus with small fancy portions. And what followed confirmed my prejudice although, in fairness, the dining rooms looked to be full, so I'm probably in the minority. First course: celery root, thinly sliced and diced, with "truffle and buttermilk." I've never had truffle before (as opposed to truffle oil) so I'm not a good judge of whether this relatively tasteless thin slices was what truffle is supposed to be. But the celery root itself was not nearly as good as the main course served at Douneside House outside Aboyne, and nothing to write home about. The second course was pan-seared scallops marred, in my view, by combining with diced apples and "smoked roe" sauce. Not sure what the "coastal herbs" were but the combination paled compared with the local scallops we've enjoyed throughout Scotland with a minimal amount of saucing. The scallops are so fresh they need little else, especially not something that tastes like apple sauce. The third course was the best -- Beef Wellington -- because the chef did not get in the way of the beef. The accompanying "broccoli variations" were a couple small pieces of regular broccoli accompanied by a sliver of crispy almost burnt purple broccoli. The fourth course was true "tweezer" food: a minute cracker, a couple inches long, a fingernail wide ("fennel crisp") with three tiny dollops of blue cheese and a raspberry or two ("raspberry mustard"). I would have preferred a slice of blue cheese but it would be hard to charge these prices for that. The last course was an excellent chocolate tort with burned butter ice cream. Again, kudos to the hotel for what they are trying to accomplish; it's likely that fans of tasting menus will be very happy with their meals; but for me who admittedly prefers larger portions of food that depends more on its innate flavor and freshness than adornments, the food didn't quite work. The waitstaff was excellent, the best we've seen in Scotland. And again the setting along with the service is impeccable.

Almost a 5 star- just let down by the lemon cake read on...What a beautiful setting. Both special but also comfortable and homely! We couldn’t get in for dinner due to late planning so decided to go for afternoon tea after a long hike in Glen Coe. The castle is beautiful. We sat next to the beautiful view and had the most interesting teas- I tried the Terry Lapsang and it was lovely and smokey. The sandwiches were pretty good. I would have liked a little more smoked salmon in the smoked salmon one, or maybe a side portion since it is such a local speciality. The fruit scones were delicious- light and airy inside with crusty outside but not too crumbly. Served with Michelle Roux Jnr’s strawberry jam which was very fruity. The Dundee cake was fabulous however, as a baker I was very disappointed with the lemon cake which was not a great texture and the swiss merringue buttercream wa light but too sweet and tasted more of lemon extract than lemon. Not quite what I would expect for Michelle Roux. The profiterole with praline was delicious although the choux was a little wet - it had been filled for too long I fear! I like it a little crispy still. The passion fruit mouseline was very lovely too. All in all it was a very special afternoon. Afterwards we went for a walk in the grounds- it was a clear day so could see The Ben in the background. Also we then enjoyed the early evening in the lounge finishing with a game of pool and some whiskey. The collection was excellent. What a special place.

This was supposed to be the highlight of of our recent Scottish tour. Unfortunately we had booked too late to enjoy staying in the Castle but this didn't really matter as we were able to stay in the Factors Inn which is in the grounds. After all it was the food at the restaurant we were really interested in.We chose the tasting menu with wine parings as we were keen to enjoy a varied selection of both food and wine. The food was good but not remarkable, although as it is essentially a hotel restaurant I would not expect anything different. The pudding however was delicious. The wine parings were adequate but the manner in which they were served was quite frankly appalling. I have never experienced a Sommelier who had so little regard for wine. First was the description uttered at such speed that one was fortunate to understand the country of origin let alone the region that it originated from. Then there was the way that it was more or less 'sloshed' into the glass with no apology when some of it ended up on the table. I forgave the white wine spillage but when red wine also ended up on the table I had to ask if it could be mopped up so that I did not run the risk of staining my white top.The whole experience was disappointing and my enjoyment of the food definitely marred, which is unfair to the kitchen as I'm sure they spent hours perfecting the flavours. The hotel itself is a delight to see and as we were lucky with the weather we enjoyed drinks outside on the terrace, with wonderful views. The rest of the staff behaved impeccably.

We enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner here for my husband. We started off with champagne and canapés in the lounge then a 3 course meal in the restaurant. We did wonder why it wasn’t a Michelin restaurant and that is probably the service where although very good isn’t quite at that standard. The restaurant did a lovely birthday plate for my husband which was a really nice touch too.

The food was delicious and nicely presented. Be prepared to pay five star restaurant prices though. As we were staying at the castle anyway, it rounded out the experience nicely.

The castle is set in beautiful grounds with a welcoming, classic entrance and front rooms. We had afternoon tea in one of the lounges which was extremely comfortable and opulent.

I love to stay in castles, so this was a hard review for me. I feel they could make some little improvements to make the stay better. We had a suite and it was nice, 2 separate bathrooms, living room and bedroom. The room was wonderful, but I feel the bathrooms could be updated a little with some paint and repairs. We walked to the boat house only to realize it was locked, would have been nice to be told that upon check in. AGAIN, there are better places to stay in the UK if you are into castles such as Peckforton. Service was not that great. I did like they had free in-room breakfast.

Inverlochy Castle, near Fort William. Dates from perhaps around AD1270. Rather different from most of the castles that we see in Scotland - a large simple square plan, with big corner towers and a moat, like Bodiam in Sussex. It's rather lost in the sprawl of roundabouts and industry around Fort William, but it is worth seeking out. Once you've found it, the scenery around turns out to be pleasingly rural with little sign of the modern world. The castle walls still stand to a considerable height, but there isn't much else surviving, so you can see everything in half an hour.

The Castle is a very grand place to have dinner, the service is excellent from the pre-dinner drinks through to the end of the meal. We were given a warm welcome as soon as we drove in from a staff member. We sat in the palatial lounge whilst we had our pre-dinner drinks, our drinks waiter was very efficient. It was a nice rest before moving to our dinner table, again the waiting staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The dinner was as you'd expect, 10 out of 10! All served in a timely manner, no hurrying along and staff checked at the right times to ensure we were happy. As it was our wedding anniversary, we were surprised with a decorated desert and some fizz to celebrate, a nice little touch!

We visited after a day of hiking, which had made us late for our dinner reservation. Staff were very accommodating and we checked into our room, which was in the cottage in the grounds and then joined for dinner. Food was incredible, we went for the Table d'hote menu, sharing a chateaubriand as a main course with scallops/ salmon to start. Lots of nice touches, including a haggis bonbon with pre dinner drinks and what seemed like an endless cheese board to finish. Dining area was beautiful, exactly what you would expect from a scottish castle, plus we were lucky as our table for two was placed in front of the glass door to the garden, so we benefited for the garden view and long june night. Very pleasant lounge area to end the night with a whisky.

This is a grand old castle hotel with all the history and luxury of yesteryear. The welcome is warm and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The walk around the castle grounds is well worth it and the walled garden is amazing. Only low point being the experience at dinner. Perhaps it was just an off knight or bad luck.

We ended our West Highland Way trek at the Castle restaurantt. The Castle is beautiful and the dining room is truly gorgeous. Overall disappointing that we were never offered the tasting menu with wine pairing-we certainly would have done that --we were a bit disappointed when the couple we had met at the bar were enjoying the tasting menu and wine pairing which we had never been offered. Otherwise okay and we should thank then staff for saving us lots of money since we merely ordered from the menu. Next Time.

After a taste of the high life but without the budget we decided to have afternoon tea here. The place is quality personified from the welcome to the service to the food. The tea was excellent with some interesting touches such as mushroom soup and panacotta (both of which were delicious) as well as the usual sandwiches, cakes and scones. The drawing room was busy so we were in the lounge which was very impressive but very quiet which meant that, despite the friendly staff, we did feel somewhat uncomfortable. Nevertheless it was worth the experience.

We arrived in time to begin with cocktails. We were given the wine and cocktail list but were not given the whisky menu. We waited 5 minutes or so for our order to be taken, when he arrived I asked about a whisky menu, they did have one but I did not want to wait another 5-10 minutes to order when they guy decided to come back, so I ordered Lagavulin. We had traveled all through Scotland and I had been drinking Lagavulin everywhere. It is a very fine whisky and not cheap, but also not going to break the bank either. It is usually priced anywhere from 7 pounds to 15ish pounds, depending on how nice the place was. I figured it would be on the high end here at the castle because this is a very nice restaurant, but I did NOT expect it to cost 45 POUNDS! (Mind you, an entire bottle of Lagavulin is about 65 pounds in the country, or less) I found this out when we got our bill and was incredibly disturbed. I inquired about the price and it was not a mistake. I understand fine dining places increase the price on everything, but this was out of line and absurd. I noticed at the end of the meal when they gave me the whisky menu to verify that Laphroaig was reasonably priced and it is only a minor step down from Lagavulin. They also claimed to pour 50ml drams instead of the usual 25ml, well that was also the weakest 50ml dram I had my entire time in the country. We had an amazing meal, food and service wise, other than the cocktail gentleman. Whoever set the price for Lagavulin is a total creep and completely ruined what was otherwise an incredible meal at a very neat location.

Myself, my mum and sister visited Inverlochy Castle for Afternoon Tea last week whilst on holiday, and we weren’t disappointed! It was amazing! We ordered three pink champagne teas and we didn’t go hungry, the scones were so light, crisp and warm and were definitely the favourites! The pumpkin velouté was a lovely touch in a mini tea cup too. Our waitresses were also lovely & friendly which was great to see. I’m sure we’ll definitely be back as it was certainly worth every penny, though next time we come can we have a bit of chocolate on there somewhere! :)

We took our two teens to have tea at the castle. Thankfully used tea for our lunch as there was plenty to eat. THe scones were the best I've ever had in my life! The view was beautiful and we sat by a roaring fire while we ate wonderful food. With advance notice they were able to offer my children a diary free tea as well with plenty of sweets to keep them happy. The kids sat on the couch and played scrabble (board games provided ) so my husband and i had plenty of time to relax in the great room. WAnder around and see the beautiful of the hotel when you go. Amazing!

This is a lovely hotel at the foot of Ben Nevis. We arrived in snow and it continued to snow throughout our time here which just added to the stunning scenery. The service here is lovely. Very personal and also homely. We were met by Jane at the front desk, shown to our room and served tea. The rooms are massive but also extremely warm and cosy. Dinner is a glamorous affair. Dress up and experience the tasting menu. I would say we are "awkward customers". My husband does not eat red meat. I don't eat shellfish and various other things. But the tasting menu was tailored for us both - we must be a chefs nightmare, but he made sure we had the same tasting experience as everyone else! Superb. Breakfast in the dining room overlooks the foothills of the Nevis range and the private lake. Just beautiful. I had Scottish porridge, fresh fruit with an extremely tasty natural yoghurt from a local supplier, and on another day free range/ organic scrambled eggs. The quality of the food was superb. We will definitely return and highly recommend this hotel

The Craig Bar is a classic scottish bar in Grantown-on-Spey. It is run by Robbie who attentively cares for his customers. Sensitive ladies may find it surprising to be named "darling" but we found it funny and charming. Different pies are on offer, all of them freshly made and very tasty, Beer, wine and whiskeys run into the glasses - what can you ask more for a great evening in Speyside?
