Working as part of the university o had to use Inox as a venue for an event. It was a long day and the complimentary water was used up by event attendees. As a result of this I asked a member of Inox staff behind the bar for some tap water of which they said 'No' Not only is this illegal for a restaurant serving alcohol to do so, it is entirely rude and I want Inox customers to know that this is what they think of people. Disgusting behaviour and it will be known

We had a graduation celebration dinner at Inox. A small plate menu that had something for everyone in our party of which included vegans, vegetarians, lactose intolerant and dedicated meat eaters. Service and advice from James and Izzy was faultless. They gave us an evening to remember, which included being our personal photographer. Superb location for a graduation lunch or dinner. Have your last drink in Bar One then head upstairs to Inox for food. Wine was reasonably priced and excellent coffee too.

Took the family to celebrate our daughters graduation and were very impressed. Staff very welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout. Set price 2 or 3 course options, great value. Many of our favourite dishes making it difficult to choose. All dishes very flavourful, chef knows what they’re doing. Syrup and ginger sponge with custard was outstanding, tasty but not heavy at all.

The food and service was fantastic and the space is set out really nice. Everything was very clean and well presented. We would definitely visit again. The only thing to let it down was that we were the only diners in the whole place, so it lacked atmosphere. Not sure if this is usual as we were the last sitting on a Friday night or could be in light of the recent Coronavirus outbreak. Town was quiet to as we went for a drink afterwards.

I think it's probably about expectations; I'm not really sure the lunch menu is realistic as an upgrade from the normal, for me to go again I would want to see a better lunch menu for around £10 . The salad, soup and toasties menu was pretty limiting ,especially as a member of our party couldn't have any sides due to a gluten intolerance ( the server was great, really tried to solve this issue but ultimately couldn't ). I'm sure the main menu and is great though, and the atmosphere was very relaxing and with really good service. I would try it again for a main two hour lunch if someone was treating me!

We didn't have a great experience when we went to Inox Dine for lunch. We went for the graduation menu, which was not cheap (£25 for 2 courses) and had to wait over an hour before we got any food, despite the fact that it was pretty empty. The staff were all nice and friendly, but the service was poor - we had to keep asking them to take things off the tables, bring us water etc and we still had the starter plates with melting butter on the tables at the end of the meal. The kids macaroni cheese was made with smoked cheese and none of the kids would touch it, despite being really hungry. The waiter was very nice and did replace it with fish fingers and chips without charging us extra. The food was very nicely presented and was OK, but we all found it too salty. The place itself was nice, and it was lovely seeing all the graduation stuff going on outside. They did knock us some money off at the end, but it took a lot of wrangling. We went to the Interval bar for tea later and had a much nicer meal, with better service at a fraction of the price!

Overall, very impressed by the service, starters, and the majority of the mains. However, one of our party was not keen on the purple potatoes which was a shame because she really enjoyed the rest of the dish and felt that it ruined the taste of the salmon, sides, and sauce. Further, the two who had the dhaal dish (one with chicken, one vegetarian) found that the rice was inedible due to the amount of turmeric. Again, the rest of this dish was delicious so just a shame that the side couldn't be eaten with it. Despite the above, we were really impressed by the service and appreciated the lovely gesture of bringing out a 'thank you' plate to complement the balloons that were brought. It was a special way to end the meal. Unfortunately, the details mentioned were the reasons why we felt unable to raise the ratings but, should these be addressed, we would absolutely recommend Inox to others.

Fabulous place for afternoon tea at exceptional value. Each item is beautifully presented and hand made. Especially good for those of us alumni nostalgically looking back to our university days and beautiful views of the city in a chic modern environment. Quick note- it's even better to offer a second plate and knife with an afternoon tea (which I did get the first time), as savoury and sweet don't mix well! A great experience for a friend's special birthday though. Thanks

Whilst the food was excellent and the ambience was comfortable, the service was exceptional. Our waitress/Deputy House Manager was warm and welcoming with an easy touch. One tiny niggle was that our desert was a long time coming which meant that I had to gobble it down as the meal was pre-concert (Firth Hall) - I couldn't do the desert justice. Other good points are the complementary water (still or fizzy) which comes in refillable bottles. The set menu offers excellent value for money. The tables are far enough apart to allow a degree of privacy. The music is relaxing and at a volume that doesn't intrude into the conversation. We are so impressed we're heading to Inox (less than a week later) to celebrate our daughter's birthday!

Came here for lunch with a visiting speaker. The atmosphere is formal but comfortable, so the venue was ideal for this purpose. We sat in the restaurant area but the staff were very accommodating of my dietary requirements and allowed me to order from the lounge menu. The food is a very high standard and presented nicely. I had the goats cheese and beetroot salad with walnuts. Portions are not overlarge but more generous than many 'high-end' establishments. There is a good choice of vegetarian/vegan options and a clear interest in sourcing local and sustainable ingredients. A good place to bring visiting friends and family but do book in advance, especially in the evenings. Students with a valid UCard can claim a 10% discount.

We booked for 6.30 (their latest usually) and were a bit late. They couldn't have been more welcoming. Only us there. Why hadn't more people booked? Very reasonable price: under £50 for 3 courses and glass of wine for 2. Perfect anniversary meal. Hope to go again soon.

My recent visit to Inox Dine was most enjoyable with fast, professional service and a beautifully prepared piece of fish with perfectly seasoned crispy skin on one side and soft delicious white flesh on the other served over pasta, sprouting greens and a light complementary sauce. I also ate fish for the starter which was also a taste and texture sensation. The value for money and portion size here also gets top marks and so I will definitely be paying another visit very soon. On the negative side I would say that the lack of parking is a drawback as the local car parks most close by are very expensive but then this is Sheffield town centre and our city council are not known for their love of Cars or support of businesses. But don't get me started on them......and don't mention Tree's! The next time I come will be by Taxi! Concerning the premises themselves, the dining room is modern and tastefully decorated, nicely lit and laid out but the restaurant itself is located on the 5th floor of a university building which was a bit confusing on where to actually enter to access the restaurant. The large courtyard you walk through is full of students milling about and the entrance a little obscured. Though this may have been exacerbated by the fact that it was fresher's week and so most of the students seemed as lost as my business partner and I! Still, the upside is that the building has a very large sign on it bearing the restaurants name which is visible from quite a distance so you do at least know you are heading to the correct place. In summary, definitely worth a try if you are in Sheffield's town centre and looking for a good, reasonably priced restaurant to eat lunch.

The food is trying to be fancy but falls short in the execution. Goats cheese and lemon thyme parfait tasted only of goats cheese, was rock hard, straight out of the fridge and was very dense. The oatcakes were good, the orange and beetroot pleasant, though not enough for the amount of goats cheese. The beef was only moderately warm. Perhaps this was intentional, but if it is intentional, it's wrong. The 'INOX' potato skins were also not hot enough and were an unappealing brown. Apart from some visible beef and spring onion, it tasted of very little therefore we weren't sure what was in it. The highlight was the dessert, though it was rather heavy for an egg tart. Positives were that the nutmeg was generous and pear puree added a fresh element to the dish. The cinnamon donut was overdone but it was a relief to have something genuinely hot. The staff tried to be efficient and pleasant but we had our bread plates left until well past ordering dessert. Pleasant enough but needs refining.

I never actually came into the students union during my time here, this was the first (and presumably only) first with my parents and wife. A group of friends went for dinner on a Monday night. We were the only table all night. I have been to Inox on several occasions and found the food to be good value for money and well-prepared. We were let down on this occasion. Friends' comments about the food was that the pork belly and the salmon were both overcooked, the risotto was bland and tasted like baby food and the cheese board was disappointing as only one cheese, blue cheese, was served. It is probably better to name the cheese if only one is served than calling it a cheese board. Staff was friendly but could probably have been a little more attentive given we were the only table...

Had afternoon tea here. Think it was £12:50 a head plus £6:50 for a glass of fizz so I had high hopes... Sandwiches were very disapointing. They were either frozen or kept in fridge right up until serving leaving bread cold and not very nice. Fillings were cheap and boring. Very poor selection. Ham and chutney was literally chutney with a slice of reformed ham not even covering the bread. Chutney was piled on however so made it taste like you were eating chutney straight from the jar. For afternoon tea I would expect proper carved ham at this price. Then the cheese savoury was literally like a Greggs one and salmon and cream cheese which I can’t comment on as didn’t have one because there wasn’t enough to go around. The cakes looked amazing and very well presented but were unfortunately pretty tasteless. Lemon tarts were good. They had chocolate tortes which looked delicious but were completely tasteless and some flapjack that was...well flapjack. Scones were like mini rocks but the clotted cream was good (because it had been bought else where...) Tea and coffee was good but god help hem if they can’t make a drink. Staff were completely disorganised although a lot of them. Got served tea and coffee before our glass of fizz. They bought fizz out when we had finished our deserts. They bought a small tray of sandwiches out at the start that literally didn’t go round the table and then bought another tray of sandwiches out when we had finished our cakes? Ive eaten in the evening here and although I found the staff to be similarly disorganised that was quite good. The head waiter walks round like he is above everyone and has done on both occasions I’ve been here. Try it in the evening but for afternoon tea I would save your money.

We had the risotto and the Yorkshire charcuterie, both were absolutely delicious. Then I had hake with samphire, fennel and a bean casserole, my husband had calves liver and bacon, served with individual accompaniments and both were really lovely. I had 1/2 lager, £2.20 my husband a bottle of beer, £4.50, we then had a bottle of Malbec red wine, which was very nice, but also very overpriced at £22. The food is very reasonably priced and of excellent quality, the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely go again but with even the cheapest bottle of wine at almost £18, we will give that a miss, which is a shame as it is part of the pleasure of dining out.

My family went for a celebration in the University's Graduation week. Prices I'm reliably informed had been almost doubled and unusually the restaurant was open in the evening. It's or he'd in top of the Student's Union building, easily accessed by lift and car parking is very close by. It was all a bit chaotic and slightly amateurish, not something you can be if you're charging £30 plus a head for a meal! The meal order was taken in its entirety inc dessert, that's just NOT done. You might argue its irrelevant , but if your charging £28 plus for average wine and top dollar for meals, you're supposed to get it right. They offered me a substitute wine for the one I ordered, that's never happened to me before, plus the red which it was had come from the fridge???? Amateur to a tee. The starter of hock and the pea soup were good. The mackerel well presented and interesting, tasty too. The bread provided was good too, a little in short supply. The beef offering as a main was again well presented unarguably generous sized, but luke warm and not very flavoursome. One beef order was really undercooked and had to be sent back, another beef order arrived so after the event it was poor service and delivery. The sea bass was pretty good. Despite the temporarily inflated prices there was still a £7 supplement for the cheeseboard, come on....why? It was again generous, but not outstanding. Liquor Coffee was satisfactory the tea in a glass teapot excellent. It was just average with some good bits, some let downs, could, should have been much better esp with cranked up prices!!!

El menú es siempre interesante (buena opción de comida vegetariana/vegana y opciones) se puede comparar favorablemente con Michelin recomienda restaurantes en los que hemos estado a lo largo de los años. Having visited Inox a few times I'm constantly impressed by the quality of the food and friendly service on offer, and also dismayed not to find the restaurant in at least the top 5 under Restaurants in Sheffield. The Special Events always appear to bring some well known Chef's to Sheffield, Cyrus Todiwala and Joe Herd both recently attended as guest Chef's and were sell out's, both excellent nights. I've been once for lunch and even though the venue is quieter than the Event nights it is a great space, nice and airy of you can get a seat close to the window and a good menu, i thought the 2 courses for £14 was exceptional value. Being a little hard to find i can see why the venue may initially put some people off, however its well worth a visit and don't let the entrance via the University of Sheffield's Student Union put you off, they're a friendly bunch and its well worth it once you get to Inox on Level 5.

Food was delicious but the service was really poor and very slow.

Myself and 7 colleagues from the university went for lunch on the last day of their week long Danish food event. The waiter didn't seem to understand their menu, took 2 orders and then left. Another waitress took over about 10 minutes later.

After another long wait two plates of food were brought to the table only to be taken back 2 mins later by the manager.

Finally, after another long wait, some delicious spelt rolls were brought out and then we had a long wait for our mains to come.

The two plates that had originally come out came back with a different garnish along with all of the other mains. All of this food was delicious. But we'd now been in the restaurant for 1.5 hours, meaning we would be late back after our lunch break, so most of us missed out on staying for the pudding.

The service really ruined what should have been a lovely lunch. The restaurant wasn't busy and they had been running this special Danish menu all week so surely any issues should have been ironed out by the time we dined there?

I am half Danish and had been looking forward to this meal and came away disappointed even though the food itself was delicious. I was especially disappointed that the slow service meant I couldn't have any pudding!

Very good food selected from 'event' theme menu. chose the meal for 2 which included a sample of all the mains available, on the event menu, also with 2 salad sides and some bread. the quality of the food was brilliant, what you expect from a notable restaurant, much better than a high street chain. the quantity was ample for 2.
the service was friendly and warm although a little slow at times.
the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food.
I would highly recommend, especially if a seasonal menu takes your fancy, you wont be disappointed.

Unfortunately this was my second business lunch where and for the second time the service was pleasant but extremely slow. Business people need swift service as time is usually a premium this doesn't happen at INOX and I don't think I will risk a visit again. I was dinning with the CEO of an international company and one of the Clinical Directors at STH NHS FT we waited 30 minutes before our starter came, whilst things improved when I complained twice the meal took 90 minutes without coffee or deserts. Not good enough which is a shame. The food was OK although I'm sure the beef should have been served with celeriac mash but it was mashed potatoes without any salt in them (cardinal mistake for any chief !)

My husband & I managed to get in after 6pm for the first time after months of trying as lunch through the week isn't an option for us (we work full time in different cities). We emailed ahead requesting a nice table with a view and a copy of the wine list, both of which were met. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the students union at Sheffield Hallam University, 15 minutes walk or a 5 min tram out of the city centre. Despite knowing Sheffield & locating the building easily & in plenty of time, the restaurant entrance itself is a nightmare to find! After wandering around for 10 minutes in total confusion having made our way up to the 5th floor to find only a locked door, we enrolled a student at the University to help (who also had no idea where it was) & we managed to locate the correct stairwell beside a closed information desk on the 3rd floor. Top tip to future visitors - the 3rd floor is at street level! We were greeted immediately upon arrival & found the restaurant to be completely empty except for one other couple. Service was polite & we were offered drinks straight away. As it was just before 6.30pm we chose a gin based special offer cocktail (ends at 6.30pm) which was unusual but nice. Wine and food menus were presented at the table as we were seated. The restaurant decor is rather informal-contemporary, purple tartan mixed with plum shades & rather 'hotel lobby' in style. Not unpleasant. Music was at low level & being empty, conversations were very audiable. The food menu us very limited. 3 choices per course & none really taking a massive fancy to us however, for £17 per head for 3 courses we cannot complain really. I chose the pumpkin soup to start to start which was nice but nothing special really & my husband chose the duck salad on which the duck was a good portion, but overcooked. For main course we both chose the beef shin which was lovely & tender, accompanied by a well seasoned jus, mashed potatoes (lumpy & lacked flavour) & some well cooked carrots which were delicious. For dessert my husband chose the donuts which were served as 5 very small donuts covered in caramel & chocolate sauces which appeared suspect - definitely bought in ice cream style sauces rather than home made. I chose the rhubarb crumble with custard which had a lovely chunky crumble, bittersweet, sharp but smooth rhubarb & a rather bright yellow, bought in custard. Rather disappointing really. We both had a glass of wine each. Pinot grigio for myself and a merlot for my husband. Not great - a little rough but fine as an accompaniment to dinner. Our server James was absolutely lovely throughout. Would we go again? Maybe not. The food is fine for the price but nothing special, plus the restrictive service times are an inconvenience for full time workers such as ourselves. We're pleased to have tried it & should Inox decide to extend their opening hours into the evening we would maybe consider another visit.

Amazing value and much underused evening restaurant. We were the only people there at 6pm midweek. Food and service excellent but needs a little 'low lighting' to improve the ambience.
Will definitely go again

8 of us attended for a business lunch. We informed the waiter that we required a quick turn around of food and this happened. The service was efficient and quick. We only ate a main course but the portion was of a good size and it was delicious. The cost of just over £73 was good value of just over £9 per head for the quality of food that we received.

First visit to the lounge for lunch. Excellent menu and we settled for the pancake with cheese and ham and the quiche. All this followed by a superb scone with homemade jam and clotted cream. The quiche and pancake were excellent value and top quality. Relaxing atmosphere and will definitely visit again.

I ate here as part of a group of work colleagues from the University as we had been given free vouchers. We had the three course lunch and the options all sounded delicious on the menu. When the food arrived it all looked immaculate. The staff are friendly and attentive, so on the surface it appears to be ticking all the boxes. The reason why people do not keep coming back is simply down to the quality of the cooking. The food itself is not executed to the same standards as the rest of the restaurant and is very inconsistent.I had the goat's cheese focaccia with beetroot to start, goat's cheese was grilled nicely, however the focaccia was burnt on the bottom and the rocket salad was not dressed. For main I had a steak with fondant potatoes, green beans and red wine jus. Three of us ordered steak (a medium, a medium rare and a rare) when they came out they were all varying degrees of rare. We were told that they were cooked in a water bath. If this was the case then meat cooked sous-vide is usually very soft and can be cut through like butter. My steak was very rare (not medium rare as it said on the menu) and was also very chewy and distinctly lacking seasoning. The red wine jus left a claggy feeling in the mouth and was very rich and in need of some citrus or sourness to cut through it. For dessert I had caramelised pineapple with coconut ice cream and mango puree. The mango puree was nice, the coconut ice cream was a bit icey as though it hadn't been churned properly and the pineapple was very inconsistent. Two pieces were barely cooked at all and a bit under ripe so very hard and one piece was cooked a bit better so it was soft enough to cut through with a spoon. I was expecting it to have been cooked down in butter and sugar so it would be soft and sweet however I was disappointed with the result. If Inox can just sort out the execution of its dishes then I'm sure customers would come back again, at this stage I personally would not choose to come here and have only been as part of a University event. I think greater attention to detail and care in cooking could really help. I have eaten at Inox several times as part of work when entertaining guests to the University (afternoon tea and a private dinner) and on both occasions the execution of the food let it down.It also suffers from the problem of not having any passing trade, to overcome this it should focus some marketing efforts on the general public rather than purely the University. The lounge area and new decor is an improvement from the Travel Lodge atmosphere it was giving off before but they now need to get the food right which I hope they can do!

me and my friend went for lunch here today it was lovely and we got to pick where to sit in the lovely lounge chairs! We both went for the amazing pancakes - ham and cheese and roasted pepper, tomato, butter bean and pine nuts. Both with an egg on top it was divine! And only £4.65 each its a bargain and more people should go! Great service and lovely posh atmosphere

My wife and I needed somewhere to celebrate my son's graduation. Excellent choice for this special occasion. It's fine dinning so don't expect large quantities, but what you do get is excellent quality and very good service at a good price in a very relaxed and classy environment. The web site tells you all you need to know.

I have been meaning to try Inox Dine for a long time, and to be quite honest, the reason I hadn't been before was because I do find it awkward to get to and to park, on account of the fact that the restaurant is inside Sheffield University Students Union Building on the second floor. tim99 asks "why is it empty when it's so good!' - I think there is the answer. However, there is now a multi-storey car park behind very close by - so no excuse now. My OH, Daughter and myself booked in for their 2/3 course lunch menu and we weren't disappointed. The choice on this menu was good and and at £12 for 2 courses this was excellent value (we, in fact, settled for 3 courses at £15). Our food was excellent, although my OH, who chose the fish and chips was a little disappointed at the size of the fish - it was very small! The waiting staff were very pleasant and the ambience was good. I would certainly return again for lunch and would look forward to the afternoon tea, which looked excellent.

We attended the Molecular Gastronomy Dinner at Inox dine, love the venue its a lovely place, the Gastronomy Dinner was a great night, good fun! it was a shame the service didn't match the Dinner, a good briefing to all the waiters/waitresses would have been good so they knew what they were serving, they were all very nervous! didn't ruin the evening though we had a great time.

My title may be harsh but the fact remains that our visit was disappointing. I ate at Inox Dine as part of a group of 8 work colleagues entertaining a visiting Professor. We made sure before our visit that the restaurant knew that we had one gluten intolerant diner and one dairy and gluten intolerant, we were advised that this wouldn't be a problem. The menus were brought out and I (the gluten intolerant one) asked for advice with regard to my special dietary need and that of my colleague. Our waiter appeared thrown by my question and disappeared to ask the kitchen. We were left for a ridiculously long time before he came back to us and when he did it was clear that the information was inaccurate for example they had no idea that couscous is made from wheat. This immediately makes me very wary as the results of not sticking to my special diet are painful. It really is essential that restaurants understand the potential consequences of miss-information. Fortunately my colleague and I have a good knowledge of the things we should avoid, it's the hidden ingredients that create a problem. The group enjoyed a range of dishes including fish and chips, salmon and new potatoes and steak with chips. All were beautifully presented and delicious. Unfortunately we weren't able to sample the desserts as service was so dreadfully slow we had already well run over time and were late for our next meeting.I expect that if you don't have a special dietary need and have a flexible amount of time available you may well give a higher rating to this restaurant.

great value lunch today in a very pleasant and yet almost deserted restaurant. John (in charge & waiting-on) couldn't have been more helpful. And at two courses for £12 it was stunningly good value.Food quality & presentation excellent. Just one niggle in my steak which was very tough, but otherwise everything first class. Desserts absolutely delish too.we shall return !

This is the second time I have been to this restaurant and I am pleased to say it was as good as the last time I went.My starter was goats cheese and walnut salad followed by hake with new potatoes and green beans. Everything was cooked beautifully and tasted fantastic. You are also given a complementary piece of tomato Focaccia bread and bottles of sparkling/still water. Although the portions looked small there was plenty to eat and I left the restaurant feeling extremely full. The meal cost £12 for two courses or £15 for 3 courses.I think it was good value for the money and hope to return soon to try their afternoon cream tea
