Inn On The Square in Brighton and Hove

I visited the pub recently and had what started as a normal and relaxed experience. While ordering my drink, the beer barrel ran out just as my pint was nearly full. Out of curiosity — not to save money — I asked the barman if there was ever flexibility in cases like this. I was genuinely interested in how different pubs handle these situations, especially since some independent venues might agree to a fair adjustment. The barman explained they have fixed prices, which I fully accepted, and I paid for my drink in full without hesitation. Unfortunately, things escalated when another customer wrongly accused me of demanding a free drink and behaving entitled — which was completely untrue. I calmly tried to explain myself, but another person joined in, calling me insulting names. What shocked me most was that a staff member — who I was told is in charge of the rota and audits — not only failed to calm the situation but actually seemed to encourage the hostility. In an attempt to defuse the tension, I briefly mentioned that I have autism, hoping to provide some context for my communication style. Suddenly, the same staff member's attitude completely changed — but not in a good way. Instead of treating me with the same respect as any other customer, it felt as though she was now tailoring her behaviour around my condition, as if my autism had anything to do with what had happened. That made the situation feel even more patronising and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, it appeared this staff member had been drinking alcohol — I noticed her taking shots from the bartender during the afternoon. This raised serious concerns about professionalism, especially given her role in managing the rota and audits. I felt so unwelcome that I left without even finishing my drink. Frankly, I’m disgusted by how I was treated — not just by customers, but by a staff member who should know better. This wasn’t just poor customer service; it was a complete failure in handling a situation fairly and respectfully. I understand that pubs can get lively, but there’s no excuse for hostility, false accusations, and singling someone out based on a disability. I hope this was an isolated incident, but I felt it was important to share my experience honestly. Update (⭐): Management’s response sadly confirms the issue... The response from management only confirms the lack of professionalism I experienced. I was calm, paid in full, and expressed curiosity — not entitlement. The attempt to twist my words and bring up false history after I raised a concern is deeply disappointing and reveals more about their conduct than mine. This is why I won't be returning.

This fabulous pub is under new management, and the team on board are really fantastic. We had a group booking here for 31st January, 30 people, and we were so well looked after. Big shout out to Shan and the team for being an amazing, local pub!!

Had my birthday in February here, the top room is super cute and the perfect size for a party! Staff were amazing, super accommodating 🙌🏼 can't wait to come back.

Wow! I’ve just had the loveliest time at the IOTS. The staff are stupid friendly and welcoming, there was a nice buzz in the place and the manager is the greatest (Shanon, ask if she’s in because she’s bloody lovely). I also had some food which hit the spot after a couple of pints. Will be back for sure!

As I did last year, I organised a group of over 30 from my London based running club to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon and like last year I arranged to use the function room at the Inn On The Square for post race 'refuelling' and celebrations. Once again we were fantastically well looked after - food, drink, atmosphere and service all absolutely brilliant.

Simply devine! The establishment has been positively transformed with the addition of Best International Cuisine restaurant nostos! The prawns and calamari were exceptional! Lovely atmosphere and a very central location!

Normalmente disfruto viniendo aquí porque las chicas siempre proporcionan un excelente servicio. Sin embargo, mis últimas tres visitas han sido decepcionantes debido al hombre rubio del personal. Él es consistentemente grosero, negándose a hacer contacto visual o decir una sola palabra al tomar el pago. We had an amazing time at their private function room upstairs, which comfortably accommodates around 40 people. The service was outstanding, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the food—cooked by Nostos—was absolutely incredible! Their award-winning dishes truly lived up to the hype. If you’re looking for a venue with exceptional food and a friendly vibe, this is the place to be. Highly recommend! 🔥🔥🔥

This was my first time at the Inn on the Square and it is now my favourite for dinners. Our roast lamb shank was succulent and falling off the bone. The spuds, carrots and parsnips cooked perfectly. I also ate a really nice sweet of pofiteroles smothered in chocolate. Just the right level of sweetness.

¿Estoy absolutamente disgustado por la forma en que me trataron hoy en su llamado Bar, riéndose de mí diciendo que estoy demasiado borracho para invitarnos a mí y a mi pareja a una copa, porque no pude pronunciar la palabra correctamente? Rara vez bebo. He tenido múltiples lesiones en la cabeza (2 TBI's) y he tenido que operarme múltiples veces de la cadera cortada de la pelvis, que el trabajador le dijo a mi compañero que caminaba como si estuviera borracho. Porque una pierna es más larga que la otra, debido a las lesiones y cirugía que tuve que pasar. Lucho con el habla, la búsqueda de palabras en particular y me han diagnosticado afasia. Dijiste lo de llevar gafas, eran gafas de lectura y teñidas porque la luz del sol puede afectarme. Y puede que me haya molestado y enojado mucho, pero ¿quién podría culparme? Riéndose de mí después del hecho, diciéndome que las puertas de allí y riéndose. Absolutamente asqueroso. Fabulous !! I was only popping in for a drink and decided to grab a little something to eat now that Nostos are doing the food now - superb. Just as good as if i was in their restaurant. Great atmosphere, a cosy pub close to the shops - so I could escape at the end of Chris shopping!! I'll definitely be back

We visited this pub today for lunch and upon arrival we saw a table having Sunday Roast, which looked amazing! We opted for the same (most of us went for beef and it was delicious), with hearty portions. Interestingly they have a collaboration with Nostos in Hove, so we added some Greek spreads for starters and a heavenly backlava to finish the meal). We’ll be back and I would definitely recommend it as even the kids loved it!

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch today. The roast beef was cooked to perfection, and the Yorkshire pudding was light and crispy, and happy to see that is made by NOSTOS.The bar staff were friendly and attentive, making for a truly enjoyable experience, will be back soon!!

First time in there, and what a lovely surprise! Superb food by NOSTOS added to a lovely chilled atmosphere. Really set up a brilliant evening.

They charge us double, saying that they had not charged us correctly. And now that we can prove that they have charged us twice, they act as if nothing had happened and do not want to give us our money back! They made a mistake and they don’t want to fix it! So if you go, make sure that they have charged you correctly and if they want to charge you twice, do not let them!!!!

I ordered the Garides sto Tigani menu, there were 4 small prawns and they were not fresh at all. It was not worth the price of £10.80. I think I will never order food here again.

La comida era increíble, gambas y calamares eran frescos, el hummus era para morir, así como las patatas fritas! El ambiente de este pub es encantador, el nuevo gerente realmente ha añadido algo especial a este pub! Ella nos hizo sentir bienvenidos y relajados tanto que nos quedamos a tomar unas copas más! La nueva noche de micrófono abierto fue el entretenimiento perfecto para la noche, pude ver a algunas personas muy talentosas cantar, canciones originales, así como covers! Para un amante de la música este pub es perfecto. Volveré al 100% pronto por la música, la comida y el increíble servicio de todo el personal del bar!

Popped in here tonight 28.10.24 around 7pm because there was nowhere open in Brighton for a coffee (that we could find!) really friendly service from the waiter behind the bar and it was really good that they allow children in there until 20:00 as we had 2 with us. Kids liked looking at the books. Really good Halloween decorations too!

Beautifully decorated pub with friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. The location is super convenient and close to the main shopping amenities. The food by Noah’s Burgers is absolutely brilliant, some for the best burgers we’ve ever tasted. Great size portions and really good value for money. We are obsessed with the loaded fries. There were five of us (some vegetarian and some meat eaters) and there was lots of choice for us all. Highly recommend! We will be back ❤️

I booked a table for four via the Google booking service. I asked for a table with easy access to the toilets due to mobility issues, and we got that the table even had a reserved sign with my name on it, at the foot of the stairs leading up to the toilets one floor up. Our booking was for an hour but we left after finishing up our arrival drinks as the kitchen was out of service and they could only do bar snacks and it was ok to bring in our own food if we wanted too. Hopfully this is not a regular Sunday service thing as the pub seemed realy nice and came with glowing recommendations from personal friends!

Stopped off for a couple of beers during a stag do in around lunch. It was a warm day so we sat outside. Plenty of drinks to choose from and the staff were friendly.

But they had Guinness and I was happy, maybe they had some good cider too. The staff was very friendly. This time I had a pint of Guinness and also bought their salt&vinegar crisps (a brand called Real?), which blew me away. Best ever. I thought Walkers had it, but they are now second best. After I left the pub, I went to Sainsbury's and Tesco to see if they had any of these crisps. Sadly no. So I had to go back to the pub and buy with me 2 packs, to bring back home :) Sadly, they don't serve any food, but just for drinks (and "crisps"), this a good place to be. Still, they do allow people to eat their own food at the tables, so that's a good thing. Anyway, a good experience, so I hope to be back some day, at least for the crisps ;)

On a sunny day no better place to people watch and have a nice cold beer,good atmosphere and friendly service.

A group of over 30 from my running club in London had travelled together to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon and we'd booked the upstairs room at the Inn on the Square for post run celebrations and lunch. The room was set out very smartly for us and the service was great - we had a fab time and would definitely book again in the future.

Arrived in Churchill Square in the pouring rain and went in for shelter and a beer. Was offered samples and given a warm and friendly welcome. Felt so comfortable and chilled that we stayed for most of the afternoon. Prices were good, customers and staff were cheerful and chatty. Good music playing and great decor. Felt like an old fashioned pub plus. Highly recommend, thank you.

I stopped off here with two friends for a drink and it is such a lovely setting. We were served by Kiya who found us a suitable table and was helpful and friendly. Nice bar with a chilled vibe. Nothing was too much trouble and he even happily took a photo for us . I have also eat here before and good options for vegetarians too.

Such a lovely pub it’s in a very ideal place just by Churchill square in the centre of town. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming spoke to one staff who served me called Sunny she was lovely very friendly. It’s definitely a good pub to have a catch up and a few drinks with the family or friends I would highly recommend.

Great pub!! In the heart of Brighton, only a couple steps away from the shopping mall! The interior of the pub is amazing and the food (pub grub) is probably the best I have ever had in a pub but what really made it was the service! Nathan was brilliant! Will defo be back.

What a strange way to run a business: juvenile, petulant, and spiteful staff. They actually discriminated against a member of our party is blind! I made a formal complaint to the owners, Laines Brewery. They did not even bother to respond. Go elsewhere.

After wandering around Brighton for a few hours I was in need of some refreshment. On the edge of Churchill Square is the Inn On the Square which is a lovely little pub over different floors. There is a bar on the ground floor with seating there as well as above. When I visited they had football on the TV and they also had a menu serving very appetising food. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the pub was tidy. There were glasses on some tables but these were soon tidied away.

The Inn On The Square is a fantastic pub, centre of town, close to Churchill Square. Such a relaxed and calm pub, the seating is comfortable and given we’re in a really cold snap right now (Jan 2024) it’s also nice and warm. The drinks on offer are extensive, the food is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and the staff, particularly Kai, are so good, nothing too much trouble and really friendly. Highly recommend this place, it’s like a little oasis within the town centre.
