Indian Ocean in Highland

Called in the Indian ocean Middleton road m/cr with my mates to cool off from the hot weather.Cool beers All round then the menu.slipped in another beer whilst our starters came lovely then our mains very tasty first time trying this meal Indian Ocean special.Brilliant with rice & paratha great chefs worth a visit always look forward to my next visit staff always very pleasant & kind.Well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a lovely meal from here. We used to visit regularly before covid. The food was good but a bit cold . However the driver did have to ring me as he was lost

I have now been anfew times to ness mahal for dinner and every time the food & service has been exceptional! It is now my go to Indian restaurant in Inverness! The food is honestly delicious, portion sizes are big (which I love). I always have leftovers which the staff are more than happy to put into take out boxes for you. Looking forward to my next meal!

went for lunch yesterday with my friend due to the raj and sams being closed we went here,..so glad we did it was one of the best tiger prawn patia ive ever had and the peshwari adn cranberry was lovely. my friend had chicken tikka masalla and said it was bloody good. staff were very nice and didnt hover which i was glad to of noticed as i hate when they watch you or keep passing asking if its ok... defo be back again for lunch not to the raj etc.

Had a lovely meal today, went to go to normal restaurant, Sam’s or Rajah but both were closed. Wasn’t too sure whether to try the now new Ness Mahal (previously know as Indian Ocean) but so pleased I did! Had a prawn puri starter which is the best I’ve tasted in Inverness followed by Prawn Dhansak, pilau rice and Bombay potatoes. Ordered too much and took the rest home for dinner, will definitely be back!

the curry was good but was cold wouldnt order the pilau rice again as was very clumped

Had an evening meal here tonight and by God it's the best chili garlic I've ever had. Scoffed the lot and am still licking my lips. Decent prices too. Warm friendly staff. Will be back!

Food cooked fresh to order. Good service. Good food. It would be helpful to have both cash and a card—in case their card machine decides not to cooperate as it did with my card tonight. Not their fault, but I was there for a while trying to pay for my food. No complaints otherwise. Eat here!

It's amazing to find a place when vegetarian and vegan people can eat in Inverness! The staff were very attentive and excelent. The food was brilliant!!

Didn’t get any cashew nuts in my rice which was disappointing as I paid more for the for that ingredient but none the less it was very good

Our go to Indian came up short .. to be fair had the food turned up on time it would have been warm but it was tepid at best. Worst thing being lied to by the restaurant about the delivery and time of arrival ..: For example..: look out for the black car and when it turns up it’s red !! Very disappointed

Birthday takeaway and further evening plans ruined. 2 hours late, staff member told me it was on its way after I called when it was an hour late. After 20 minutes I called back only to be told the order hadn't even been cooked. I've used Indian ocean for years and will not be using it anymore. When the "food" (I use that term loosely) arrived it wasn't even that hot, the poppadoms were the best bit...

Starter was over cooked (burnt). Poppadoms chewy and inedible. Main was bordering on tasteless and all of it cold. Order was not complete and was missing the drink and despite phone calls and messages was not delivered of refunded. I won't be ordering from this bunch again. Very disappointing... Wont

Placed order around 8:10pm, no sign of food at 9:40pm. Two phone calls later was told that food was packed would be delivered in 15 minutes. 10:10pm food still not delivered. Money has left account however food has gone undelivered. Take away shuts at 11pm so little chance of getting food delivered before it shuts. Worst service possible from any take away we have ordered from.

Dit restaurant in twee opvolgende jaren bezocht voor een lunch tijdens een koude en natte schotland tour. Hier knap je van op. Fantastisch authentiek Indiaas eten. Goede sfeer. prima tafels en zitcomfort. Opvallend veel aziatische bezoekers. Zoals in heel Schotland willen de restaurants om 14.00u graag de lunch afsluiten, iets om rekening mee te houden. Hele keurige prijzen. Hun Peshwari nan is absoluut goddelijk.

Ordered at 7pm and was delivered at 9.50pm, Loch Ness marathon was on but would have been nice to have received a call to let us know how late it was going to be, at least the food was nice.

Took my mum in here as it was close to our accommodation. Very pleasant waitress, very helpful. My Mother does not have a large appetite and we both wanted smaller portions but we were refused. The waitress was very apologetic but this did not help us. We placed an order but were unable to finish our meal, so they wasted food and we wasted money. Would not go back, not very accommodating at all.

The Tandoori King Prawn with garlic rice was amazing. I certainly recommend this place. Friendly people, great food and a good price 😀

We stopped over for one night on our north coast 500 tour and found this by chance. It wasn’t busy and we got our food quickly. The staff were lovely, chatty and accommodating. My husband had the lamb purdina and said it was one of the nicest curries he’d had. Mine was lovely too but he particularly impressed with this dish. We enjoyed it so much that we visited again on the return leg of our journey and had been advised to call to reserve a table as it was a Saturday night. We called at 6 and had a lovely meal again at 9.30. But busier this time as you’d expect but was equally as pleasant and would highly recommend.

Pretty nice indian food. My fried rice was a bit dry. They were 3-4 people at our table to take our order, which felt a bit weird.

On entering the restaurant it was fairly empty, it was only 7pm so we thought it would get busier. My main course tasted bland and the chicken was chewy, we were very disappointed as having read previous reviews we had high expectations for an excellent meal. We also found the restaurant quiet with other guests listening to our conversation , we could not wait to leave, we also had to double check the card payment as we were overcharged and had to point out the mistake to the staff member. A very disappointing experience, would not return.

We called to place an order, as we have food allergies this is the best protocol rather than ordering online. The place didn't pick up so we assumed they were closed, however we received a call back instantly with an apology, we were able to place our order, drive to get it (20 mins or so) and they called us when it was ready, when we told them we were just parking they assured us it was no rush. The food - Is clearly marked as GF we got both the vegetable and chicken pakoras, popadoms, a prawn biryani and a chicken Bhuna. The restaurant gave us the full set of dips, chutney, yoghurt and spicy onions which is a rarity and they were each delicious! The popadoms were nice and crisp, the prawns in the biryani were lovely and it was flavoured so well. The chicken Bhuna was spiced perfectly, it was truly medium spiced and flavoured so well. It is not often that you get a restaurant that doesn't create heat for the sake of heat , instead the flavours of the food were so well thought out. I highly recommend and the only thing I would like to see in the future is a Gluten Free chapati option.

Visited this evening with my husband. Service was extremely good and the food was one of the best Indians we had ever had. The sauce with the chicken shaslick was particularly good. Would highly recommend.

Het eten was goed. Alleen de bediening had er niet zoveel zin in. Ze wilden zo snel mogelijk de tent weer sluiten. We kregen het hoofdgerecht terwijl het voorgerecht nog niet op was, terwijl we aangegeven hadden rustig aan te willen doen.

Service was alright. Did not seem very friendly at first but they made up for it and turned out to be very nice. Not very quick on drinks but helpfull and friendly. The food was tasty and fairly priced.

A rare treat and a lovely surprise to discover this gem of a place. Charming people and exquisite food. Haddock curry and a crab dish were just marvellous and the Bombay aloo and bhindi were cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.

El servicio fue maravilloso y solo eclipsado por la comida. Todos disfrutamos nuestras comidas. Si te gustan las cosas un poco picantes, te recomiendo el ajo Paneer chille.

The food is excellent and the service spot-on. There is a fantastic choice of vegan and vegetarian options, all clearly marked on the menu. Just a 5 minute walk from Inverness railway station. Highly recommended!

Proche du centre ville et des gares routières et ferroviaires, bon restaurant de spécialités indiennes (Tikka Massala Curry, Nams, Riz différemment préparé ...). Le service est un peu lent mais serviable. Le prix est très correct. Plein un samedi soir.

We discovered this hidden gem while travelling to Inverness and liked it so much, we went twice in as many days. They make some of the best curry we've had anywhere in the world. We were especially impressed with the Goan fish curry, which was so good we ate all of it before even noticing there was other food on the table. Highly recommend.

Great curry, try the Royal chicken and the garlic naan which were both delicious. Staff was very nice and even helped us get a taxi back to our hotel when we had phone issues.

We had a lovely meal here. 2 omnivores and 4 vegans. Everyone was catered for in a friendly cordial manner. We had starters and 6 different main courses. All were delicious and we thought it was all delicious. Highly recommend it

Enjoyed the food very much. Spicy but flavourful. The service was thoughtful (my server was concerned over cost of me ordering side vs one dish).

With a takeaway it is always hit and miss on how well the food travels etc when delivered to your home. We were staying with relatives and we ordered a meal of a mixed starter and a chicken Tikka starter. The mains of Tiger by the Sea, Chicken Madras, King Prawn Jalfrezi and a chicken tikka main, accompanied by 2 portions of pilau rice and two nan breads came to a substantial £68.00. Quite expensive for a. takeaway. The meal was accompanied by two free popadoms and chutney. Nothing wrong with the food, but the mixed starter was a disappointment and looked a mess. The nan breads did not travel well and were dry and rubbery. Very regrettably they failed to send the sauce with my main Chicken Tikka dish which made it very dry eating and actually spoiled my meal. The supposed side salad accompanying my meal was a joke. I have never seen anything so pathetic; a tiny amount of lettuce, small piece of cucumber and what looked like an eight of a tomato! You really do need to address these issues if you are going to charge such priced

Just stepped in unplanned ... food was delicious and could really fulfilled our desire for real India food. Baingan ka bharta and daal were remarkable. Worth trying once if you really have urge for Indian food in Inverness.

Forget the reviews from those who obviously do not get out much this is a lovely little curry spot. Manager and waiting staff very friendly and attentive. Starter was mixed kebab which was lovely. Lamb curry with off the menus mixed naan very tasty indeed. Great job guys forget about the Indian tourist jealous reviews. Lol.

Gemütliches, schönes und sauberes Lokal mit sehr freundlichem Personal. Es gibt diverse vegane Optionen, von mild bis sehr scharf, und die Speisen waren das beste, welches wir bis anhin an indisch in Schottland gegessen haben. Sehr empfehlenswert.

I cann't belive people don't have a simple manners . We reached there and ordered our food but we were forced to order at once whatever we want.when we quetioned him he had given very silly explanation with stupid example ( was totally undigestable). This all ok but worst part of the story is one of their staff has spilled the glass of water on one of us and instead of saying sorry she was staring at us and in a miniute her manager has arrived and see the height of rudeness instead of saying sorry he was sympathising and protecting his staff lady.Unbeliveble , I was suppose to stand up and ready to leave the resturant but I was with big family n didn't want to create a scene over there.

We drove in to Inverness from Arderseir for an evening meal not realising that Noel Gallacher's High Flying Birds were playing in Inverness that night, so getting a place for the two of us to enjoy a meal was proving difficult. We came a cross this lovely restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

To start with, this is not an Indian restaurant!! It is a restaurant that attempts (a bad one at that) to serve Indian cuisine but has nothing Indian about it. The servers are rude and have no knowledge about the food that is served. They got offended when we asked them questions and gave us sarcastic remarks like “you have been reading the menu so you should have read about it”. Then we were forced to order all our food at once (including breads like Nan, which cannot be eaten when cold) because we were ordering at 830 and their kitchen closes at 10!! And when we attempted to understand the reason for this rudeness, we were told that the person talking to us was the owner and he does not like to talk much!! I have never heard more bizarre arguments ever. Honestly, we never forced the owner to come to work and if the guy does not love talking then he should be doing something else in life than waiting tables at a reasonably high priced restaurant. Basically, all the people from Indian subcontinent that try and pass off their recipes and food as “Indian” should do so only after experiencing Indian culture and hospitality too. Otherwise, they would just ruin the experience and image of Indian food and cuisine. In India, guests are treated well and respected and the whole experience is important to bring Indian-ness to eating your food. Our experience at Scottish and British eateries was much better with extremely helpful servers and staff, though these are the people who are considered to have a stiff upper lip!! As regards the food, it was pretty ordinary too. Again, these chefs from Indian subcontinent who have no experience with Indian food, believe that Indian curry is all about adding red chilli powder and artificial colours to make the food look funny orange or red!! They don’t understand the spices and the aroma and what a flavourful curry is. All in all, disappointing eating experience and even worse was the heart break I felt about unaware people misusing “brand India” without having any sense or understanding of Indian culture. A note and a request to all diners who would still want to go this place - please don’t judge Indian food and hospitality basis what you see there.

I had an excellent lunch here, enjoying some tandoori chicken and naan bread. The sauce was delicious and different from what I'm used to in Texas Indian food places. It was a nice treat.

Out of town in an Airbnb with our family, we chose delivery. Food finally just arrived and is good. But we paid over the phone and were Told 1 hour. It took 2 hours to arrive. When it finally came, the delivery person asked for payment. I told him we paid over the phone. He said he’d have to call and check on that. No apology for the delay. If you order from here, plan ahead or have starters on hand. Maybe in restaurant is a different experience? :(

Went for an early meal and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were polite, smartly dressed and efficient. We didn't have to wait long before we got our meal and when it arrived it was very tasty. My husband did ask about gluten free meals and these were pointed out to him prior to ordering. All in all a very nice meal.

Lovely hot food, not swimming in grease like some places, very tasty, can't rate it highly enough. Each dish was lovely presented, great to share. Staff very polite and helpful, Will be back very soon.

This is my go to Indian Restaurant . Consistently producing tasty food . Prepare to pay for it , but as a treat this is HIGH up on list , if not My FIRST Choice.

Situato nel pieno centro città...nelle vicinanze sia della stazione sia del terminal degli autobus...non ampissimo...arredamento normale in stile indiano...menù ampio...pesce/carne/pollo...optato per seafood platter...mix di pesce...salmone/gamberi ecc...e una portata di granchio di cui non ricordo il nome...portate buone per qualità...non abbondanti per quantità...forse vedendoci turisti...il tutto accompagnato da un buon garlic bread...servizio ok...prezzi nella media...!!!

We booked the table for 07:45 PM. When we reached there the table was not available ( this is just the start). After 15 mins we got a table, and it took a long time for us to order. When we requested the gentleman to take our order, he started behaving rudely and told me the he is busy. After a long delay we were able to place the order. It took another eternity to get the food delivered which was deliberately delayed by the same waiter as people who came after us got their order first because I made a mistaking by asking the person to take the order.

Best Indian food in Inverness.... Curries were awesome and breads were thin not like other restaurants..highly recommended

Food was fairly good! But they charged naan double (for sharing) and the drinks were 3 pounds each for a tea and a halfpint. Thats out of tune. Those things matter in the end for the total experience.

Por esa razón no solemos dejar comentarios a menos que el restaurante fuera notable. El océano Índico es uno de esos restaurantes. Muy amable y acogedor, nada es un problema y la comida es magnífica. Sin duda volveremos gracias.

Entramos aquí para el almuerzo - un curso para 7. 95 y dos cursos 9. 95. La comida era sabrosa y sabrosa y bien cocinada. La cantidad era buena para un almuerzo. Mi única queja sería 3. 50 por una pinta de lima y soda. Muy empinada para este tipo de bebida.

Comme souvent en GB, et surtout dans une petite ville,trouver son bonheur culinaire passe par l exotisme: Indian Ocean apporte l odeur du curry au bord du LochNess. Accueil chaleureux,decors resto indien...sans surprise,et plats genereux authentiques a prix tres honnetes.

Leckeres, indisches Restaurant mit sehr netter Bedienung. Erstes Mal, dass ich indisch gegessen habe und total begeistert. Nur weiter zuempfehlen!

La primera vez en Inverness y se metió en el Océano Índico para el almuerzo. No nos decepcionó. Tomó el almuerzo del hombre de negocios de 2 platos. Pakora de pollo para empezar, que era excelente y suficiente pakora no demasiado lleno. Luego tuvimos el curry Madras & jalfrezi con arroz y nan. Una de las mejores comidas que hemos tenido y, si volvemos a visitar Inverness, volveremos al Océano Índico. 5 estrellas.

The staff were friendly and efficient. I often have this meal when I visit a Indian restaurant but this was up there with the best of them.

If you like your curry hot, try chicken naga. Not many restaurants do this bangladeshi dish but they do here.

Esta noche mientras estuve en Inverness Travelodge llamé Océano Índico. Hice un pedido para la recolección, me dijeron que estaba listo en 30 minutos. Cuando llego a recogerlo nunca tomaron una orden. Llamé al número mientras estaba en el restaurante y bajo y he aquí que recibo el teléfono en la recepción. Evita este lugar, el peor servicio de todos.

We ordered a just eat takeaway for this place and first of all it ended up like the latest Kevin Bridges sketch where we were all looking out the window wondering where the takeaway was. The time finally came when it was about 45 minutes away to phone the takeaway. At least it arrived and the order was correct! There were three of us, we each got a main dish each, then ordered one rice, one naan and onion bhajis and that was a perfect amount of food. Cost over £40 including delivery. I ordered the haddock curry, and you may think that is a strange combo, so did I. But oh my I am already looking up recipes to recreate it at home, it was the best dish out of the three by far. Decent indian overall.

My 10 year old, son chose the restaurant, and what a great pick. Food was scrumptious, and the staff friendly and attentive. Wish I could post pictures of the meal, it looked too tasty, but we scoffed it all before I could snap it. Winning dish of the night was the green herb chicken.

Delicious food served by attentive staff. Good choice of menu in comfortable surroundings, inexpensive compared to other Indian restaurants in Inverness. We ordered a bottle of house red wine 12,1/2 vol and price only £12.00.

My 1st time in Indian Ocean was last September and after that my boyfriend and I got addicted to curry. Very good service and food is amazing ! The most important to me was if they got vegeterian food and I wasn't disappointed ! I really recommend this restaurant and I'm gonna go there soon again !

We ordered a takeaway today from the Indian Ocean and it most certainly did not disappoint! Outstanding flavours, delicious tasting and extremely generous portions. The key difference I find between this establishment and other Indian restaurants is the amount of meat in their curries, they really do pile it in meaning you will be very well satisfied and full afterwards! Couldn't recommend it more, the best curry in town!

This Indian restaurant has delicious food and great service. The staff were very attentive, the restaurant was clean and tidy and the menu choices were fantastic! Open on New Year’s Day which was great for us as we had to drive up from Edinburgh that day and were due for some great food. The portion was so generous and tasted incredible. I wish I had more room to finish my meal!

There wasn’t anything specifically wrong but it just wasn’t great. Cold restaurant. Not great decor or ambience. Service was ok but it took ages and ages for the starter to come and there were only two other tables of people in the restaurant. The main course was nice though with generous amounts of chicken.

Visited on the 27th Dec and the restaurant was very busy with nearly every table full. The manager found us a table at the back of the restaurant and we did not have to wait long to order drinks and food. There was a slightly longer wait for the food which was completely understandable due to the amount of customers. When the food came it was very good with generous portions. The staff all took time to interact and seemed genuinely helpful, making sure we were comfortable and everything was as expected. Overall it was excellent value and we look forward to returning when next in Inverness.

Eat here nearly every time I am in Inverness. Had a lamb biryani and a plain nan last night. A simple meal but packed full of flavour. Always look forward to my my meal here. Friendly staff and good food. Well done Indian Ocean.

Staff were very welcoming, helpful and excellent service. Visited here yesterday lunch time. Very clean restaurant with a lunch menu 2 courses for 9.99. Starters were delicious and the main meals, curries were amazing. Very attentive staff. Would highly recommend.

Modern eingerichtetes, indisches Restaurant, zentral gelegen in Inverness.

Warm and friendly welcome with attentive service. Have been for lunch a number of times when we've been in Inverness and has always very good. This time we arrived at 17:00 and had popadums which were fresh, chicken tikka korma and lamb tikka rogan josh both of which were excellent. Highly recommended.

This has to be one of the very best Delivery Takeaways we have had that we are on our 3rd delivery this evening.

Cannot fault this restaurant. Found it randomly while on holiday and very pleased that we did! The pakora was so good and so was the chicken dhansak I had.

Just had dinner in the Indian Ocean restaurant. Very nice food. Pleasant clean surroundings. Attentive and friendly staff. Good value for money.

We did a whistlestop visit just as the restautant had opened as we were going out later and needed to eat early and quickly. We were walking past and we are very glad we went in! Fast, friendly, efficient service, lovely decor and fab food. We had the best naan bread we have ever eaten and the chicken pathia was absolutely delicious. Thank you. We will definitely be back for a more leisurely evening when we visit Inverness again. Well worth a visit.

Yo estaba en Inverness para un par de días y simplemente caminar buscando un lugar para comer. Este lugar es muy céntrico y no muy lejos de las estaciones de autobús y tren, y el menú tenía todas las cosas habituales en ella, así que me fui. Parecía ser bastante popular ya había un número de mesas ocupadas. Comencé con verduras pakora y tenía un principal de lentejas al chole con arroz. Tampoco lo fue particularmente especial. Nada mal, pero yo enormemente he tenido mejor en cualquier otro lugar, así que sólo una recomendación cualificada.

Our craving for Indian food was finally satiated with Lamb Biryani, Garlic Naan & Chicken curry. We ordered our lunch here & even packed food for dinner. Their Biryani was awesome & was served along with a Veg sabzi. The staff took good care of us & was more than happy to offer us suggestions to visit around Inverness.
