We used The Balti Cottage twice for takeaways while on holiday in Alness. Both times the curries were excellent. They were full of flavour and good quality ingredients. If this takeaway was local to us, we would be there every week. Top class. Unfortunately I can't say the same for their pizzas. Our kid's pizzas were below average and for some strange reason they used a bright red tandoori sauce rather than a traditional tomato sauce on the base. This didn't go down well with the kids and most of it went in the bin. Stick to the curries!

My friends and I will often order a takeaway from here when we have had a few drinks. The food is average quality but tastes amazing when you are intoxicated. We normally get pizza which is often very greasy. The cheese tastes very cheap. Chips taste like microwave chips. Curry sauce is terrible; watery and oily. The best Indian-related food I have had from here is the peshwari naan bread. It is honestly the best peshwari naan I have tasted from any Indian restaurant. I have also tried their garlic naan which was just plain naan with a massive clump of minced garlic in the centre. I have not tried anything else on the menu except pizza, chips, poppadoms and naan bread so I cannot say whether or not the rest of the food is good, but from what I've heard their food is saturated in oil so I would not recommend unless you are on a night out or having a sesh. Would also like to warn everyone that they may be stuck on the toilet the morning after eating from here 💩

Superb takeaway. Vast menu and some really different curries - the ones we ordered were very tasty. Lovely pickles to go with the poppadoms. Massive naan bread, though a touch too much coconut in the peshwari. Really impressed with the curries which better our superb, prize winning local

We had a set meal as a treat with an extra prawn puri. This was the worst puri I've ever had, such a lack of flavour and the prawns were over cooked. The pakora were quite good so made up for it a little. We were looking forward to the curry's but on opening the tubs we were greeted with a pool of oil, we skimmed the oil off both curries which a 3rd filled an empty tub but even so the remaining curry on rice (good rice) was extremely greasy and both tasted very alike (1 chasni & 1 jaipur) but nothing like they should or had previously. Bombay potatoes were not great but better than the curries. Most was left as they were so oily as to make them inedible. So sad a previously good curry house produced this rubbish.

I usually go to the Balti once a week, I've been marking each of their curries off the menu as I try them and I have not tried a bad one yet! My favourite is hands down the Green Herb Special, just delicious! Runners up are definitely the Ceylon, Chettinad and Darjeeling. If you don't like your curries ridiculously spicy then you can ask for a mild, medium or hot version of whatever curry. They do other things like pizza and donner which I have occasionally and they're good, but the curries are what you want to try! Dont forget the mixed pickle for your poppadoms or naan, that's another favourite of mine. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and very accomodating, can't fault them at all. As for value, the portion size is great, you get plenty for your money. I genuinely can't recommend this place any higher, I have tried other Indian takeaways and restaurants as far afield as Inverness but they just do not compare to here. My one and only gripe... the Facebook page does not have high resolution photos of your menu so when I lose my paper copy of your menu I can't see what I want to order :P see you later this evening!

I have eaten from various food outlets as I travel all over the uk. This isn’t just the worst takeaway in Alness this wins an award for the worst, Donner and Pizza in the uk. Myself I bought a Donner Kebab. With salad and sauce. After opening it, it actually looked terrible. Once tasting it, it promptly went in the bin. Kebab meat was like strips of rubber, the salad Consisted of Cabbage, the sauce was tasteless and as we know it’s suppose to be spicy. I think I can compare it with like watered down, 50/1 with water. My work mate bought Pizza. He eats two slices as it tasted funny, me being starving after a 15 hour shift and though I would try it, two bites and boom it’s out the window. I left one star because actually the staff were nice and helpful.

So far removed from authentic indian kitchen cooking. The food is some of the worst I have seen in about 10 years. The curries lack fresh ingredients, the chicken is dry, the sauce is either canned or made by possibly the worst indian chef in the UK. It is bland, overly sweet in some and like a plate of vomit. Take the dishes make to India and they wouldn't be recognised let alone eaten. Very poor example of a complacent takeaway with very low standards of quality. Will certainly never be returning.

Just home after getting my tea at the balti cottage and the food was lovely. Must give a big ty to the service as when left the hand in my bad went and so did the to donner burger suppers with it. I went back in to ask for a brush to clean it up , they-wouldn’t hear of it and did it for me. Then proceeded to make us two new meals even though was my fault. Amazing service and ty once again 😊. Will be back for sure 👍

Phoned in a large order on the Christmas holidays, arrived to pick it up, it was ready on time. Lovely staff saw that I was going to take two trips, when the most lovely gentleman came and carried my order to my car. The food was melt in the mouth, tasty without the curry sauce taste that is the usual for local food. This was my first visit to the Balti Cottage, it will certainly not be the last. Ten out of ten for the food, the marks for impeccable manners is off the scale.

The menu was extensive and the reviews seemed good but in reality the food was basically skewered meat - lamb, chicken - with a sauce poured over it. A curry should be cooked slow - it's not a stir fry!!!! You could have washed the sauce off and had just drying meat. We ordered Muglai and Jalfrezi and both sauces tasted the same.Everything seems to be "tikka" because that is easiest. Portions were fine but loaded up with unnecessary veg. If cost over 30£ for three mains, rice and nan which is Glasgow city prices but not Glasgow city curry!

We used to eat here quite a lot , but have found things have changed ,... There sauce on the pizza is yuck .. it used to be nice rich and tasted of tomato , now it near pink in colour and tasteless .. also we have ordered food by phone , picked it up and drove away , only to fined its not all what we ordered ,this has happened twice , we visit people in the area and like to take food to them , but I am afraid to say it, we will not be back to the BALTI COTTAGE , unless it goes back to the way it was ...we know produce is expensive , but some times you must take into consideration "quantity is NOT BETTER than quality ..

My eating-partner isn't familiar with Indian food so she told me to choose for her, telling me to avoid anything with coconut especially if it's sweet. I ordered lamb tikka masala, and chicken in a tandoori sauce, 2 pilau rice and 2 nan. At the time of placing the order the place was empty; same with when we returned after 10 mins to collect it. On getting home with the food I was hacked off to find that whilst the 2 rice and 2 nan were there, we had chicken tikka masala, and lamb in a pink/orange sweet sauce with coconut!! Even if we had ordered those mains I didn't think much of the food.

I'm a bit of a regular at the Balti Cottage, simply because it has the best Indian take-away food in the area.On top of that they also do kebabs and Pizzas so it is a one stop shop even though your group fancy different styles of take-away.On top of that, the service is always quick, even at the busy periods such as Friday / Saturday evenings the service is as quick as can be expected - with their time estimates given when booking quite accurate. But if you do find yourself waiting for the order, then then you'll always get a good bit of banter with them!
