Food arrived really quickly and good service but the daughter's chicken wasn't cooked properly. I had a curry which was lovely but they need to make sure the food is cooked properly. Also found out afterwards that they over charged us for the kids meals.

Disappointed as it all started off well! Prices were reasonable and at first, the staff were on it and attentive. Food initially came quick and was all tasty. Our server followed up with us and refreshed our drinks and cleared plates from appies before mains came. However, as we were about 1/2 through our meal, our server left. He came back a bit later with a bunch of his mates who he set up at a table at the back which is where all of the attention of all staff went. More of their friends came in and hung at the bar going back and forth between their table and bar. They all received drinks and food in record time while we sat waiting for plates to be cleared and desserts to be ordered. At this point there was only our table (family of 5) and one other table of another family of 5 who was being “served” by someone else. So it wasn’t busy. We thought they might be closing but it was not yet 8pm and they don’t close until 9pm on Mondays. We had a kid with us so we certainly weren’t there for a lengthy meal ourselves as it was getting late for us after a long day out exploring. We did get some eventual service from one of the staff who’s eye we caught while he was chatting at the bar but he only cleared our plates and told us the desserts were on the back on the menu before rushing off. We already knew what we wanted to order since we had been waiting over 15 minutes at this point for some acknowledgment that we were still there. If they wanted to socialize you’d think they’d want to hurry us out so they can focus on their friends 🤷‍♀️ Another 10 min before we had to ask to order desserts. Then we had to go up to ask for the bill after we were left alone again once finished. Though prices were reasonable and the food was tasty and very generously portioned, the terrible experience was not worth it.

It's like an old 19 century resteraunt. The staff are amazing and always seek for their flaws. I'd love to come back and eat more.

Staff are very friendly and service is excellent. Lovely place but the food needs to improve. It was ok but the chicken was obviously processed kebab type. The madras sauce seemed like it may have come out of a packet. Presentation of the food was excellent. The naan bread, rice and salad were good.

We had such a great meal here today, the service was fantastic, quick, attentive and very friendly, we loved it. The food was amazing, 2 of us had lamb chops the portion was so generous, they were exceptional. My wife asked for a vegetable Bhuna instead of the meat options that were on the menu and she was very very happy with what they provided, loads of lovely vegetables in a fantastic Bhuna sauce with amazingly fluffy rice. We cannot wait to eat here again. Thank you

I cannot rate this place at all, my partner found a large piece of plastic in her lamb koftie which is awful. Then 24hrs afterwards I had D&V , whatever is going on in that kitchen is not good, avoid if you can.

Family-friendly restaurant. The service was slow, but they were a little busy. Food was surprisingly good and affordable for the location. One good thing is that no reservations are needed to go and eat

Absolutely amazing!!! I would move to Scotland just because of this place ! Really nice service and people that are working there and delicious food! It’s definitely a must to visit ! We walked in for a table and had to only wait 5 minutes, which was a very good turnaround considering how busy the restaurant was. We then had the lamb chops, garlic chicken curry, and chicken bhuna, all of which were amazing with very well marinated and spiced meat. The lamb chops were especially excellent and well worth the price.

I recently dined at Charcoal Aviemore, and while the staff was friendly and accommodating, my overall experience was marred by an issue with the food. I ordered the lamb curry, and unfortunately, it was undercooked. This led to a bout of illness, and I'm currently dealing with digestive discomfort.

It's ok but they forgot some things like your souces. Very little food spread out în a large space .

Not a bad place at good. Cheap honest food. Nothing amazing but we enjoyed it. The service was spot on. Only thing I would change would be less.suger in the tikka but I'd probably order it again.

A really varied menu of Indian, burgers and seafood, very popular so book to avoid a long wait.

Large menu range. Indian, Italian, Greek (sort of!) Our group had Lagsania (not very hot and far too much cheese in one) and Chicken Shish (good but a tiny bit of pitta bread). Seafood shish was great. Overall happy with the food but not with beer range - which let's down the whole experience. If you like lager you'll be fine. If you like darker craft beers (or even an 80 shilling) you're left out. Menu only had: Tennents, Amstel, Birra Moretti, Strongbow cloudy Apple on tap and bottled Efes Pilsner, Cobra, Old Mont Cider Berries & Cherries.

Avoid at all cost got a tikka masala and it tasted like they watered down a chasni with fairy liquid absolutely revolting

We were up in Aviemore for the weekend and noticed Charcoal on the high street, we tried booking online/phoning them to which no luck. We decided to turn up on the evening and luckily got the last table. It would be good if they could sort an online booking portal for future bookings as it is a really busy restaurant. If you love Turkish cuisine, you will love Charcoal. It's located in Aviemore train station and is central for both car parking & bus travel. We ordered the chicken & lamb shish with a naan bread to share and were blown away with how good it was, the portion size is great and the whole atmosphere of watching trains passing by was incredible. Staff are friendly but seem to be a little inexperienced with the menu and customers. The food is brilliant but is very costly with shish dishes being above £18 and gins £6 plus, I highly recommend trying them if you are in Aviemore!

Had the mixed grill, the mezze trio and the chocolate fudge cake .All very good and arrived quickly.

Had the chicken strip starters which were very tasty followed by the mixed grill the flavour taste and presentation just order it and try it you won’t be disappointed Also very polite helpful staff 10/10

It’s always a poor sign when the menu in the window is faded. We should not have gone in. Staff were very polite and welcoming and the tables, seating and cutlery were fine. There was no atmosphere and no themed decor. The menu is a smattering of Indian, Turk, Italian and American. More like a pub menu. The food was cooked and hot but lacked any flair. Everything had the same spice from the bean burger to the chicken wings. Most items came with a small pot of hot red sauce. No variation there. No extra flair to the food such as mango chutney, popadums or spiced onion for instance. The salad accompanying our mains was poor and mushy. The nan was chewy. All in all a below average meal which was more than double the price it should have been. It’s a mish mash of a menu - a couple of pastas, a couple of burgers, a few curries and an attempt at Turkish. Once bitten, twice shy. I would recommend getting a microwave meal from the nearby Tesco rather than eat here.

Great food! Friendly staff! We went with our Indian friends and they were completely fascinated with this place. Also, we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Ambiance is clean and newly decorated. Friendly, courteous staff that were eager to please the guests and explain menu options. To try something different and to experience an authentic Indian cuisine experience give this place a try! You will be glad you did !

Avoid! Chicken was pink and you'll find better quality in a wetherspoons pub (at quarter of the price!). Bring a tourist hotspot they don't count on repeat custom so they're happy to serve you rubbish as they know you won't be back anyway.

I went today and I had Crispy chicken burger was delicious And I had Korma But it was sweety But I asked them to change it to other curry and they didn’t mind that The staff are friendly

Food was very nice however halloumi fries had to be sent back - they had been deep fried which made them taste salty. Staff very attentive and friendly. Visiting from North East England and would probably try again in the future.

No es un lugar que te vaya a sorprender. Si estás por la zona y tienes prisa está bien. El servicio es rápido y atento. Comimos alitas de pollo y sopa de champiñón con pollo) plato del día). Para continuar comimos lasaña, cazuela de pollo y otra de cordero. Todo tenia un toque de picante, no exagerado.

Esta muy bien ubicado el local. Es interesante que esté sobre la estacion de tren, le da un toque exótico y único. De todas maneras recomiendo sentarse en las mesas alejadas de las ventanas que dan directo al tren. La atención fue muy amable, atenta. La comida no tardó en llegar. Sin embargo, las hamburguesas estaban bien, simples, nada a resaltar. Las papas rústicas, bien. Comimos un Curry típico, caliente y picante (así lo pedimos). Suelo comer muy picante y esté estaba al punto de demasiado, fui la unca que lo disfrute en la mesa, por lo que si no toleran lo verdaderamente picante...¡están advertidos! El arroz que acompañaba, un espectáculo. Las verduras eran escasas y estaban al borde de cuestionar su calidad/estado. Esta bien la relación precio calidad, pero nada sobresaliente....al menos las hamburguesas definitivamente no. Detalle a mejorar del local, los baños : estaban muy sucios, mojado todo el piso y sin papel. Reconozco que era tarde (20hs), pero todos los clientes deberían acceder a condiciones de calidad.

I visited this lovely restaurant as it had grilled food and Turkish food. I came from Birmingham and wanted to try a place which had a mixture of asian and western food. The staff were very friendly and polite. We asked them to recommend some dishes to try. They recommended the king prawn shish and mixed grill. For starters we tried some Calamari, garlic bread with Mezzo trio and Haloumi cheese and sautéed garlic mushrooms it was presented well and was tasty. For mains we had the classic cheese burger meal, fish and chips and mixed grill and chicken wings.We were all pleased with the quality and quantity of the food. I would definitely recommend and visit again .

After travelling for several days we did fancy some Indian food and not going to lie we were worried as others we went to was not very good! (Being from London and Birmingham we are spoilt for Indian / Desi food!) This place, however, was actually really good! And would defo come again and recommend!

Absolutely can recommend this great restaurant, everything was amazing and huge servings great prawn shish, lasagne, korma chicken , Greek tzatziki, garlic mushrooms and amazing lamb chops. All with chips , veges , salad and Nana bread. Fabulous ❤️

I'm struggling to give even 1 star. I have never experienced such poor service or had such unedible food. A table for 2 we ordered 2 starters and 2 mains at 8pm. One starter came out and by the time I managed to get a waiters attention my partner had eaten their starter. I declined to wait for it Any longer and cancelled my starter.the mains arrived, looking great, but on tasting the food it tasted burnt. Turning over the meat showed it to be quite badly charred giving the foul taste. It was returned to the kitchen and I declined a new one to be cooked. Not an enjoyable experience

Good food. Reasonable price and good service. Would definitely recommend as there is a lot of very poor places to eat in Aviemore that trade on past glory.

Na bij enkele zaken te komen waar geen tafel meer vrij was, hier belandt. Waardeloos. Slecht en vet eten. Niet voor herhaling vatbaar. De lege toko had alarmerend voor ons moeten zijn. We hebben het eten niet opgegeten en zijn na boodschappen doen bij Tesco op de camping daar onze maag met brood gaan vullen.

Het eten was erg teleurstellend. Je betaald te veel voor het eten dat je krijgt. Zo was de vis van de “fish and chips” smakeloos, het vlees van de mixedgrill erg droog en doorbakken. En de penne masala veel te vet met olie. Ook de frieten waren zacht en vettig. Personeel zijn een paar studenten die totaal niet overkomen (geen sfeer). Porties zijn klein en je krijgt veel friet om je lege maag te vullen. Een echte aanrader is de saus uit de zakjes die je erbij krijgt, want dat is het enige dat ze niet zelf maken. Groetjes van een paar Nederlanders die hier nooit meer komen! HOUDOE EN BEDANKT!

Mensen, aub luister niet naar deze 5-sterren reviews. Maak niet de fout die wij maakten. Deze reviews zijn door hele simpele mensen geschreven die houden van eten met 60% olie. De penne die mijn vriend had rook naar zweetsokken en smaakte niet veel anders. Mijn vader zijn mixed grill was droog en het vlees in de kippenvleugels nog rood/roze. Mijn "fish and chips" zoals ze het hier durven te noemen smaakte naar niks en de frietjes waren echt super vet. De vis-friet verhouding was ook erg apart. 15% vis en de rest is friet. Voor de prijs die ze hier vragen is dat onacceptabel. Als top op de kers was de bediening enorm slecht. 2 jongens die zonder charme of enig enthousiasme het drinken op tafel poten en niet eens even uitdelen. 1 van de 2 morstte mayo op de vloer en ruimde het niet op. De enige in de bediening die wat inzet toonde was de wat oudere man, die dan ook de mayo opruimde. Die kwam echter wel van de wc zonder handen te wassen en deed in het restaurant zijn gulp nog even snel dicht. Ik weet dat deze review overstromend negatief klinkt maar het is toch echt waar. Nog nooit ergens zó slecht gegeten als hier. Inmiddels in de auto zijn we allemaal misselijk en komt het eten terug omhoog. Ik adviseer u, als u dit leest, om hier zeker niet heen te gaan.

Very over priced for what we got. Service was OK. All young kids working and forgot few things.. I'd have expected better service.

This was a really cool place, the staff were very attentive to us. The starter halloumi fries and aubergine was exceptional, the bread served with it was very fresh. Enjoyed my paneer biryani which was a huge portion, the tsaziki had dill in it and was really good - the paneer unfortunately seemed low quality, maybe frozen, and wasn't on par with the quality of the meat dishes which were excellent.

We arrived for lunch at the opening time of 1 pm, only to be told that the staff hadn’t shown up yet by a very apologetic waitress. We decided to get some drinks and wait for the staff as we wanted to try this new restaurant in the heart of Aviemore. The waitress was so good and apologised at least three times before the staff finally rolled up 35 minutes later. The business seemed to lose a lot of customers when they were told there were no staff. We placed our orders, two chicken tikka and two chicken shish. So the staff arrived around 1.35 and seemed in no rush to get started. No manager came over to speak to us at any moment. Amazingly after only 10 minutes, we received our order; how long does it take to fire up a charcoal grill? Did we just get reheats from the previous day? The waiter did not utter a word to us, and I felt he was annoyed at us for coming to the restaurant. The food was edible but so plain for an Indian, and the chicken was very dry. The chicken shish was just pieces of dry plain chicken with a side salad and a tiny pot of sauce with hardly any flavour. The chicken tikka again had minimal flavour and only had five small pieces of chicken swimming in a large pot of sauce. No one came to ask if we enjoyed our meal, no one apologised for our 35-minute wait, and we received no discount or additional extras to make up for it. We left £90 worse off and felt very ripped off. I get that staff can be late due to unforeseen circumstances, but to give us subpar food, no apology, no recompense, we will never return. Give the waitress a raise; she was the only one with any sense of how to run a business.

Dropped in at 4.00pm. Place was dead. Asked for drinks for two. We were told they only serve drinks with food. Went elsewhere. Obviously don't need any passing custom like ours. No need to say we will not be back - for food or drink.

Me and my partner arrived very late for food (9:30), no reservation. Not even a hesitation not only in accommodating to provide us with a table for food but the food was extremely good. The mixed grill with lamb chops was a beyond good. Tender juicy meat with that smoky flavour and charr from charcoals. Simple food well prepared which is not always simple. Their homemade chilli sauce is a must. The waiters were all brilliant, very friendly and accommodating. I will return for sure.

Very very disappointed and annoyed. We went out for a family meal. Mine and my daughters food arrived and we had almost finished our food and my husbands food had still not arrived. We cancelled my husbands food as he did not want to sit and eat after we had finished. They still had his meal on the bill. When we spoke to the manager, he went to the kitchen. Turns out the waiter did not come back for it. Will definitely not go back.

Leckeres Essen zu moderaten Preisen, gute Auswahl. Sehr nette, professionelle Kellner/in. Schön eingerichtet. Lediglich etwas warm wenn die Abendsonne darauf steht und ein wenig laut. Trotzdem noch angenehm zu sitzen.

Wow the Pennie pasta with chicken and curry sauce was so good!! I will definitely be back again very soon.

Delicious food! We had some middle eastern/turkish dishes which were so good. Meat was tender, the mezze trio was really nice and the fluffy bread it came with excellent! Really pleasantly surprised to find this here.

Ate here twice. The food was very good as was the service. Variety of choices but I loved the Indian. I'd recommend here highly.

Had lunch here at the new year and it was great so we returned for an evening meal tonight. We were looking forward to it but it was truly awful our bhunas were tasteless I actually had to add salt, my husband advised the waitress and front manager and we were told we should have ordered a spicy bhuna, a bhuna is medium strength. The sauce was runny and bland worst Indian we have had. The complaint was met with a couldn’t care less attitude will not be back !

We’ve tried the Korma chicken, garlic naan, Salmon and lamb meatballs. Tasty. The service is also warm and brilliant. Shout out to Azium and Kenzie.

Its a mixed review , the food was supposed to be mediterranean , but it was like a Indian middle east . Wont say it was bad , but it felt something was missing . Also we ordered the Paneer Tikka Msala , it was artificially red .

Over priced for what it is ,the wife had curry that is made from a jar of patika paste it’s got the grainy texture to it , Nan bread was ok just a little dry rice was also dry , I had a mixed grill the lamb was cooked well the chicken was over cooked an dry and the chicken wings were so far gone they no longer had the texture of meat dry and hard more carbon like than chicken and to top it off the waiter spilled a pint of coke on the wife’s lap , no managers came over to apologise and no offer of anything to make up for it £70 an feel robbed

If you want a decent curry, AVOID. If you want nice fish & chips, AVOID. If you want good service, AVOID! Booked tables for a party of 25+. As one guest has Coeliac, we asked an hour in advance if they can be catered for which they confirmed, yes. When we arrived out came the excuses. Couldn't have Fish & Chips because 1 fryer out of action. Couldn't have any chips with other meals for same reason. They could have warned us when we phoned, or before we sat down. Curries very poor and way overpriced, with meagre portions. Every different curry dish included the same cubes of chicken marinated in the same spices. Korma and tikka were tasteless, pathia was bitter with no sweetness. Chips were straight from the freezer. There was no mango chutney! Unbelievable! Any complaint was met with indifference. Waiters favourite comment was "no problem", but no action taken. During the meal I advised them that my review won't be flattering. "No problem", was the reply. If you want gluten free fish and chips there is a chippie a few doors away. If you want a decent curry there's a real Indian restaurant 2 minutes walk. Please don't waste your money in this poor excuse for a restaurant.

Having been encouraged by a number of incredible 5* reviews I thought we were on safe ground ordering in from here on a Saturday night. £38 for a korma and a tikka Marsala with a naan. This was simply pieces of precooked chunks of chicken plunked into tasteless slop most likely straight out a jar from the cash and carry. No evidence of cooking here and absolutely no evidence of heritage. Bright yellow korma. Completely tasteless. Bright red Marsala with zero taste and zero texture. Can’t even be bothered to complain. Binned the lot and headed out to get something edible elsewhere.

We loved the food! Ate here twice because we really loved the chicken wings that we ordered for the first time, and ended up liking more food from the menu. Penne pollo is a must-try! Staffs are nice too. Highly recommended! 😊

We visited Aviemore for 2 nights and we decided to dine here twice because the food is amazing! The staffs are friendly and accommodating. We loved all of the food especially the penne pollo and lamb chops! We'll definitely dine here again when we come back.

Food adequate, poor service and from a customer point of view the male waiter that thinks he is too good to do anything apart from pass orders onto young girls needs to do more himself and help out. Remember customer is always right.
