Don't get me wrong the food was excellent, but there was no stipulation to download track n trace, no hand sanitizer, all tables too close only 6 inches apart,the restaurant should have only half the tables there was, no screens between tables,if you get covid you will have contracted it here.

Worm welcome by restaurant management,Food is yummy and finger licking good.My personal opinion is go for punjabi chicken tikka with extra spice. Chill 👌👍

Fantastic food, great value for money, lovely staff and service. Veggie curry options are great, I had the Dal Makhani and it was delicious

Underground Indian restaurant on Rose street in city centre Edinburgh. Busy and popular with good food and efficient waiting staff. Very tasty vegetarian curry options as well.

Comimos aquí en nuestra parada rápida en la ciudad. Los platos de cordero que ambos tuvimos estaban deliciosos. Cordero muy tierno y lleno de sabor. Éramos los únicos en el restaurante (era tarde), así que el servicio era bueno y el camarero muy acogedor y hablador. Spent Monday evening here after a spontaneous booking for dinner. Food was awesome! Service warm and friendly. 4 friends. 4 different mains. All superb. Highly recommend the chicken tikka Vindaloo.👍

I enjoyed a meal here , chicken madras , rice , naan bread, popadoms washed down with a cold beer, service good and large portion size. I would certainly return and would recommend.

Encontré este restaurante por casualidad caminando, la comida era deliciosa y las porciones eran de buen tamaño.Mi esposo pidió a Korma que fuera suave y eso es lo que obtuvo, yo comí kebabs de pollo tikka que estaban muy calientes y muy tiernos. El servicio fue bueno y atento sin duda volvería

Mi pareja y yo fuimos a este pequeño restaurante escondido mientras estábamos en Edimburgo para un largo fin de semana. La comida era muy sabrosa, porciones de tamaño decente y una buena relación calidad-precio. Teníamos el Haggis pakora's que ambos recomendamos encarecidamente. El personal fue amable y acogedor. Mi compañero incluso pronunció las palabras "este es el mejor curry que he tenido". Sin duda, volveremos a cenar aquí a nuestro regreso a Edimburgo.

We have been there for over 4 times now and have always left completely satisfied. Fanstastic food, comfortable atmosphere and ambience and fast service. You can easily see the passion and hard work of this family business.

Got a korma because i like it mild, but it was way too spicy so could not eat it, a waste of money. Wouldnt go again

In Edinburgh for three nights and this was definitely the best find in terms of food. Found on Rose street and here since the early 1980s. Warm friendly reception on arrival and showed to warm atmospheric restaurant, cosy and busy, which is always a good sign! Great Menu, covering everything you would be looking for in an Indian restaurant. Not going into depths but everything was cooked to perfection, very tasty, good portions. In short, staff friendly, premises atmospheric and clean. Staff friendly and efficient. Service is quick, food fantastic and great value... a must visit if your looking for a tasty Indian cuisine

I have been to so many restaurants all over the world but never experienced such disgusting customer service. Man at the reception tried his best to secure a bad review. If you are a woman then do not go to this restaurant. They behave as if they are giving you a favour by letting you dine in this restaurant. Please learn some customer service and basic manners.

As two women of colour, myself and my friend felt from the moment we stepped into the restaurant til the moment we left a substandard level of service in this place. On arrival, I explained our table reservation to the man at the bar and I was told to wait outside the entrance. When my friend arrived some minutes later and we entered to check on our table reservation, we were rudely pointed to stand by a chair at the entrance. The food was mediocre if not overly salty. One of the drinks ordered was not delivered, thus I asked for it to be canceled as it did not arrive by the time we finished our meal. When attending the bar to pay, my friend and I decided to split the bill - and tip, despite the underwhelming service. The bar man ignored us as much as possible, and when I finally asked him to put £10 on my card - I was told that I was "lucky" that it was "only" £10 because if any less, he would have charged me for using card. He also refused to give me a receipt, because I used contactless payment - something that makes no sense given I use contactless for everything and surely you are entitled to a receipt if you have paid for a service.Overall, I felt the waiter / barman was rude, racist and sexist - and I have never had that experience in a restaurant in the company of caucasian friends. I would not recommend this place, nor would I re-visit it.As for hygiene, one of the waiters wore his facemask below his nose.

Great food, friendly service. A little pricey. Restaurant wasn’t busy so social distancing not a concern when we visited.

Six of us had an early evening meal here and enjoyed every mouthful. Three of us are vegetarian, one has various food intolerances, two are committed carnivores and we were all catered for very well. The staff are friendly and helpful (they will do their best to adapt recipes if asked) and were attentive without being intrusive. Food was fresh and delicious.

We had booked a table at a Thai restaurant that we have been to before, but, we decided to try something different. What a gem of a place. It was busy, which is always a good sign. Service was brilliant, food was the best Indian we have had and one of the best meals out we have ever had. Good portion sizes, we had the meal for 2 which was excellent value for money. Great flavour, tender meat, gorgeous flavours. The staff are friendly, attentive and accommodating. Would recommend and will definetly come again.

We went for it opening as it became busy as the night progressed. Very tasty lots of different spices. we went two nights in a row we enjoyed itbthat much.We had to ask for the bill a few times though.

My partner and I have been here several times now, mostly on a weekly basis as it’s close to our home on Charlotte Square. The Indian Lounge has a good range of dishes available but a limited bar. This restaurant is fairly small but is comfortable. Service throughout the evening was good and the prices were good by city centre standards. One drawback is that this restaurant is below street level and is only accessible by steps. Itis worth a try if you are in this part of Edinburgh.

If in Edinburgh give this a try ,you won't be disappointed. Food ,service and ambiance were excellent, would definitely recommend it

We spotted the lunchtime special at £6.95 for 2 courses, but whilst we enjoyed the food we were disappointed that lots of the items had supplements on them. Rice and. Naan were extra too. I was disappointed that a good value lunch ended up as anything but. Drinks are expensive too but that is the norm for a cheap lunch offer. Food was nice, it just cost much more than expected.

Fancied an Indian meal and walked in without booking. Very friendly service, excellent menu and food extremely tasty. Pickle tray did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend and visit again when in Edinburgh.

This Indian restaurant just off Princes St close to the Waverley Hotel is a little backstreet gem, everything about our meal was spot on. It wasn’t recommended to us we just took a chance and it paid off.

Went here for a table of 7 on a Friday night. Able to book online when others could not accommodate. Service was great and food was excellent. One of the best butter chickens I’ve ever had, and nice haggis pakora. Second time I’ve been and won’t be the last time.

Found this Indian by chance on our week end trip to Edinburgh last week but alas had all ready eaten so decided to go on the saturday night.Walked in off the street and were greated with a very warm reception,Food and service were great.The flavours in the chicken saag i had were perfect,whilst the chilli and ginger was a tad hot for my wife we were offered another mellower curry free of charge if we wanted,now you cant beat a service like that.An overall great experiance est over 30 years ago and still going speaks for itself

Chicken madras was a little warmer than the norm, but very tasty. Service could have been better and the restaurant itself seemed a little dated hence the three star review. I don’t know if they do takeouts but I would definitely recommend the food.

Maybe the best indian restaurant in uptown Edinburgh. Reasonable prices, very friendly, cozy environment and the food is excellent. We have been there over 5 times now and we have never left disapointed in any aspect. I definitely recommend it.

Certainly a very busy spot - each vacancy promptly filled. Tables are small and rather confining (actually the entire place is tightly packaged) however, the short wait for the food is well worth it. Friendly, fast service and tasty meals appear to be the norm here. We'll go again.

Evening visit for a respectable lamb biryani and very tasty salmon tandoori. Although never a fan of peas in curry, both most enjoyable. The mood was slightly spoilt by the background sound of the consumptive barman coughing his guts up throughout. Bill reasonable, although requested "glass of water" came as Highland Spring at £3 and I have yet to work out how 2 popadums can cost £4.55. But we paid up and wandered off into the night, never to return.

Food was great, especially naan bread. Service was good. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

On a recent visit to Edinburgh my wife and I decided to pay a visit to Indian Lounge, the reviews were very negative but we thought we would try it anyway.

Went here, on the back of some negative reviews. We were over the moon. We asked the owner about some of the reviews, and, he answered all our questions. He is a character.

Dined here with some friends for lunch after my usual Indian was closed for the day, terrible attitude from the owner, chicken was tough, prawns were undercooked and mushy very over priced!! Definitely won’t be back!!!

What a lovely wee find in the middle of town. Prices are very reasonable and all the dishes were cooked and presented wonderfully. Very tasty mixed tandoori dish. Highly recommended for value and quality.

My sister and I had a delicious late lunch at Indian Lounge! Helpful and friendly manager/waiter. He made great recommendations. Huge menu, lots of variety. Clean, beautiful, centrally located spot! We will return.

We did not read the reviews on this site prior to visiting, and I'm glad we didn't. Our experience here was wonderful; the servers were friendly enough, helping us choose starters and main courses, and all the food was delicious. The lamb korma in particular was a splendid choice for someone who enjoys mild food, but this restaurant also offers very tasty spicy dishes. For drinks, the mango lassi was wonderful.

Went for the lunch menu , outside on menu board £6.95 advertised,when sitted inside we were given the standard menu nothing about advertised lunch menu had to ask for this,made our order each having vegetable packora which was so oily and could just taste oily fat and very dark brown totally yuck,also ordered chicken tikka masala,this consisted of 5 small peices of chicken,for this they charge you extra £1.95 thereabouts,so really your paying £6.95 for a small dish of sause and rice and extra for the chicken,also had a garlic nan which was tasteless,my partners meal was just as bad ,again extra charge for including chicken with her dish,food was terrible ,service just as bad ,when we complained got absolutely no where,the final bill £30 for such a misleading menu basically designed to rip you off,never again.

Dont even know where to begin. Our hotel recommended this indian restaurant and all i can was. ABSOLUTLEY SHOCKING SERVICE ALL ROUND!!!! Both orderd the tikka massala and it arrived with onions and tomatoes and we are allergic to tomatoes (skin on) we explained this and the 1st guy just walked off. They tried charging us full price and didnt offer any discount ect. Just said (were make another, didnt even apoligies)

Just been in restaurant and the service is terrible. Small and dingy restaurant with small bland servings with waiters with attitude. Avoid at all costs. Ordered food and it came out within 5 minutes, luke warm with little spice.

Ordered loads of food and every single thing was beautiful! The service was fantastic and they had a laugh with us. We also had two children with us and they couldn’t do enough to be helpful they even bought our kids food as soon as we went in there and gave them lollys etc. Food tasted really fresh and full of flavour and it’s good on price also. Definitely recommend!

Do Not Go Here! As I was just starting my meal I felt something get lodged in my throat and it wouldn't go away. I kept eating and drinking to dislodge it but nothing worked. I then started throwing up blood and the food that I had eaten. I had to be taken to hospital because of it. And Guess what! They still made us pay the whole bill!

If I could give this restaurant 0 I would. The service was awful. The food was even worse, we ordered the lentil soup and it was basically water with lemon and maybe a couple of lentils. The chicken butter was even worse, it tasted like it had ketchup in the sauce. When we came out of the restaurant another gentleman asked me what I thought and I basically told him that it was the worst Indian food I have ever had. He felt the same way, he thought his fish dish also had ketchup in it! Gross! Do not go there!

Requested meal something different arrived. Waiter didn’t want to know, told the dish was what we asked for. Didn’t appear interested. Asked for bill and we paid. Not even a thank you. Lacked hospitality. Red wine very bitter.

We took the dinner for 39gbp. Good quality, volume ok. Rose wine are 18 gbp. Friendly service. Good place in centre.

We went there for dinner while staying in Edinburgh. The location was within walking distance from our hotel. Good atmosphere, the food was good and the service was excellent.

My friend and I shared vegetable pakora, chicken pakora, lamb bhuna, prawn tikka masala, pilau rice, naan bread and a lovely crisp bottle of cabernet sauvignon for £20 each. Well worth a visit.

Easy to get too and didn’t have to wait for a table even though they were busy. Staff we’re great and the food was exceptional. We had a great experience at the Indian lounge even though one was vegetarian who enjoyed a great menu.

We stopped for a dinner. Food was delicious. Some of the staff members were friendly but few were either tired or just didn’t care. Good value for the price.

This was the first time eating in a 'proper' restaurant for my granddaughters and they loved it. And so did the grown-ups! The food was excellent and served sizzling hot and very promptly. Staff friendly and attentive. Would definately visit again when next in Edinburgh.

The management sucks, our date of visit was 26th August 2019, we were tired after a programme at Princess Street Gardens and searched for good Indian restaurant but the management were so rude to us and when asked how many lamb chops in a starter his answer was “20” mocking us!

Way below average for an Indian Restaurant who uses the word ‘India’ in their names must even live upto it. For starters the owner or the Manager was very rude. I found him trying to intimidate us for some reason. Wen we ordered a dal makhani he told us its sweet and not for the indian palate. You’re an indian restaurant if u dont meet standards then u need to cooke for indians separately. Got totally turned off by the constant grumbling. Dont intend to come back

We happened upon this restaurant, and were enticed in by a wonderful smell. It was a lovely atmosphere, calm and friendly. The food was really excellent. We enjoyed every mouthful. We left feeling full, and hoping to return (although we do not live here). The staff were very pleasant. Thank you.

Auf der Suche nach einem indischen Restaurant fiel unsere Wahl auf die Indian Lounge und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht. Leckeres Essen, zuvorkommender Service und eine kleine Plauderei über Deutschland mit dem Chef des Hauses rundeten unseren Besuch ab. Gern würden wir noch einmal vorbei kommen.

While we were visiting Edinburgh we stumbled across this restaurant with a reasonable 2 courses for £6.95, so we decided to give it a go. The service was ok and so was the food however when we got the bill we discovered the whole thing is a scam all you get for £6.95 is onion bajhi and a sauce no meat or veg which are extra charge !!!!!! The menu clearly said 2 courses for £6.95 14 dishes to choose from. £2.50 for a glass of coke from a 2l plastic bottle and £7.50 for a bottle of Cobra. Totally cheated DO NOT GIVE THESE ROBBERS DOGS YOUR MONEY!!!!

While we were strolling on a nice street and craving for Indian food, we saw this place and after we looked at the menu, we absolutely wanted to have dinner here. As we walked down, I saw many angry servers moving around. I had not read the previous reviews until I decided to write a review myself. While my 12 year old son picked up a menu from the counter to decide on his dish as we waited to be seated, I heard yelling and screaming between the servers. After we were seated, a server came and gave us silverware without making any eye contact and before leaving, he tapped my son’s head and snatched the menu out of his hand while reminding him rudely that the menu was for take-out only. Then a tall man with a grey moustache came and started taking our order and while we were still discussing with each other and asked for Recommendations while placing our order, he shrugged his shoulders and walked away rudely without completing our order as if we were wasting his time. At this point, I was not sure how to react and did not want to have our food “garnished with spit” because of anger all around. I encouraged my kids to leave as I strongly believed that the place was run by people who were extremely unhappy with their lives and did not like working here. Whatever it was, as we walked out, the same person came out and said,” OK” and walked away again without asking us anything. With 2 great Indian restaurants not far from this place and with plenty of other cuisines on rose street, not sure how this place is able to stay in business since 1983. Please avoid if you can or at least make an informed decision after reading the reviews and you won’t be surprised that most of the reviews have a common sentiment of feeling insulted at this place.

Very different experience to others recently commenting. We had superb meal, very tasty indeed. Service was prompt and waiters very attentive constantly asking if everything was meeting our approval. There was also several attempts at humour during exchanges. Only one complaint, this resteraunt should be relocated to my home town!

Disgusting service, they treat you coming in like they're doing you a favour just by letting you eat there. Food is nowhere near up to the standard of similar restaurants in Edinburgh. Gordon Ramsay egos but school dinner quality.

Visiting during the Edinburgh Festival and taken here by local residents for a wonderful dinner. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, a very comprehensive menu and food amazing - best mixed tandoori ever. Next time in Edinburgh I will return for sure.

Lovley clean place, busy, food very enjoyable and tender. Didn't take long to be served, the only bad thing was even though our curtly was laid on our plates, we was finishing our nann and sauce left over from curry when the waiter started clearing our plates away without asking and even though we was chewing. Two of us ate last night. The food very bad, but most of all the customer service we experienced we have no words to express the rudeness of the waiters and owner. It took over an hour to get and we specifically told them we do not want spicey. When we told them the food was too spicey for us their response was that we should just eat the bread and rice. Yes with an attitude they took it off the bill, but that wasn’t the point. They should have suggested some alternative items on the menu. Very ugly behavior. We left starving. It was the very worst Indian restaurant and dining experience we’ve ever gone to in whole of England and Scotland. And as we know there are so many great ones. Stay away from this place is our suggestion.

On our trip to Edinburgh, we stumbled on this restaurant by happenstance. We ordered lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. The vindaloo was super hot but very flavorful. The chicken tikka masala was also delicious. Both dishes were amazing. I worked up a sweat but it was worth it. Our nice waiter brought me yogurt to help me with the spicy heat. They are proud of all the fresh ingredients and spices. They took the time to explain where they source from

The chicken kebab was disappointing as it was basically just a few chunks of chicken and fried onion with a small side dish of tandoori sauce, no bread or rice with it. My husband did enjoy his lamb rogan josh despite there being very little lamb in the dish. Although the price of the food was reasonable, the drinks very overpriced (almost £7 for a bottle of beer).

If you are a woman just don't go! I went with my mother and we were treated with such disregard and rudeness. Told to wait over there and the gentleman just pointed. As we waited no staff made eye contact and were standing at the bar and offered no drinks or even a wait time. Once seated we were rushed to order and when we asked questions about the dishes the waiter made it seem like we were inconveniencing him. When our drinks came they were slammed into the table and the gentleman just walked away. After being seated we were then asked to move to make room for other customers. It was a horrible experience considering that a group of four gentlemen came after us and got a wait time, drinks, and seated all before us even though we waited and were ignored for an extended amount of time. Food was average, it was not worth the negative experience we had.

The waiter was rude and very poor in communication. Can’t believe how they treat customers. Another group in front of us had same issue. Even the food is very average. Not at all recommend

Went in here for a meal with in Edinburgh with the family for the Fringe. Waited a while for a table, and while we were sat in the waiting area, the waiters were walking past with drinks and gave us, and the kids, dirty looks as they were trying to get past. When we got a table the waiter had a bad attitude when taking the food order. We bit out lip but the final straw was when we asked a waiter to come and take our drinks order, and when asked if he did rhubarb gin he answered “this is a restaurant not a bar”. At this point we decided to leave. Definitely won’t be back. These guys should take a lesson in customer service!!!

One waiter aged approx 55 plus is very very rude Left restaurant without eating anything I think tht waiter has problem with his wife which he is showing in restaurant with the quest..it's personal request never to go in this restaurant ...

Excellent indian restaurant who do lovely vegetarian food also, eaten here on a couple of occasions and food has always been fresh and tasty.

Could not find a better Indian. The food is fabulous and the staff go all out. Not one in our party of 5 had any issues all of us loved it. Highly recommend.

Having visited this fine establishment several times, I can say that the service is fantastic, the staff welcoming friendly and helpful. In all our visits we have never had a bad experience, and this year was no exception, tasty food, patient, attentive service. I would recommend anyone who enjoys Indian food to pay a visit here. I look forward to our next visit.

First time trying this restaurant. I stupidly ignored the negative reviews about customer service as I had never seen an Indian that advertised serving organic veg and free range meat. I went against my better judgement.

The best Indian food I have eaten, fresh ingredients, beautiful tender lamb. Delicious. Friendly service and knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We came to this restuarant and showed a coupon to the manager that said 10% off. He said every person has to order one entree, starters don't count and kids meals don't count. The coupon which is in every flyer of city maps didn't say it. Anyways, we ordered food, Lambs Chops and Rogan Josh. Both were very light on spices and salt. Tomatoes used seemed like canned tomatoes, didn't feel they cook to justify the cost they ask. In short, not Indian food, maybe Scottish Indian food. Suggestion: stay away.
