Interesting food served with Punjabi Scots charm

In continuation of my previous comment: Whoever is reading this, see how they treat their customers. Instead of addressing the clear billing issue I raised, the owner responded by making personal remarks and assumptions about how much I chose to spend. That alone should tell you everything about how they view customers. To the owner: Your response is unprofessional and misses the point entirely. I never questioned how many dishes we ordered , that was our choice as paying customers. Portion size and value for money are valid concerns, and I stand by my view that the food was overpriced for the quantity. Yes, we said the food was fine when asked , that’s basic politeness. But politeness during the meal doesn't cancel out a poor overall experience, including the rude attitude, incorrect bill, and hidden service charge that wasn't clearly marked as optional. Also, suggesting that we were unhappy just because we “didn’t want to spend money” is not only insulting, it’s completely untrue. It’s not about the amount, it’s about transparency, fairness, and how you treat your guests. If this is how you react to honest feedback, it’s no wonder others might stay away. I certainly won’t be returning, and I suggest others think twice too. If you truly believe nothing was wrong, then simply recalculate the bill and check whether it’s right or wrong. That would speak louder than personal comments.

On the advice of the waiter, we ordered a surprise menu (chicken and vegetarian). We got delicious curries with naan bread and rice. Perhaps not the dishes we would choose ourselves, but we had a great meal.

Dishonest billing and rude service – be careful Really disappointing experience at the Indian Lounge. The food was okay, but the portion sizes were small for the price. What really ruined it was the service, the waiter was rude and clearly not interested in making anyone feel welcome. But the worst part was the bill. When we looked closely, we realized they had added a hidden service charge, disguised as a normal menu item. After checking everything, our food should have cost around £54, but they charged us £66.45, that’s over £12 extra with no clear explanation. The real total (with their fake “service charge”) came to £60.35, and they still added more on top. This kind of sneaky behavior is just wrong. In the UK, service charges are meant to be clearly stated and optional not hidden among the food items so people don’t notice. If you trust them and don’t double-check, they’ll happily overcharge you. We won’t be coming back, and I’d strongly advise others to look very carefully at their bills before paying. You might be paying more than you owe without even realizing it.

The food was really good, with original choices like Haggis pakora. Service is kind. We had a good time there.

We have had a delicious meal tonight, staff are all very friendly, great ambience in the restaurant, we will definitely return.

Best Indian food I’ve had in Edinburgh!

First visit from Southampton with my partner for a lovely meal! This place was our choice for our ‘date’ night whilst on holiday. Food was incredible, friendly, attentive staff and would highly recommend and be back when we visit Edinburgh again in the future! Thanks ☺️

Excellent late lunch, fish pakora was the highlight

Both food and service were outstanding. From the lamb chop starter, to the curries, the rice, the lassi, and the naan—each item was easily the best we've had in years.

Myself and my family dined here for a birthday meal . 2 of our party had food allergies ( 1 coeliac, 1 tomato allergy) staff couldn't do enough for us to accommodate food allergies. Great service, delicious food and great location in centre of town. We will definitely be back

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Edinburgh . We have been coming here for years and we always enjoy the service and the staff are so friendly and welcoming and even remember you! The food is also very good with so much options to choose from so please come and try you won’t be disappointed

Really enjoyed our meal. Great place reasonably priced for Edinburgh. Less than 30£ each for a beer, nan, starter, rice and curry per person. Don't know why they only get 3.7 stars. I think people are being too snobby and mean in Edinburgh. Highly recommend the salmon tikka starter - it was an excellent take on Scottish curry fusion. Perfect for big groups too.

Food was amazing! Best fish pakora ive had. Our medium spiced punjabi tikka chicken main was spicy. Just right for us! We were eating late in Edinburgh and options were looking slim so we were delighted to find the Indian Lounge open for take away and very accommodating!

Unreal curry, unreal naan, absolutely beautiful and the nicest guys who run the place - can’t be happier with our choice

I had Paneer Pakora followed by Chicken Madras with a chapati and keema nan. My wife had a vegetarian thali. I thought the food was not bad but certainly nothing special. What really took my breath away was not so much the heat of the curry but the size of the bill . We protested and it was reduced. It seemed a very expensive restaurant considering the very average standard of the meal. It has been a finalist in an award competition, according to a sticker on the wall. Our own observations led us to conclude this restaurant would not win any prizes. Service was good though.

I’m not always sure what to order when eating Indian Cuisine. The owner with a huge personality took care of everything recommending a collection of family style dishes that were tremendous. Unique flavors and spices, wonderful mix and plenty of it. Atmosphere was buzzing. Comfortable seating, immaculate dinning room and highly attentive service. Wonderful evening

Absolutely terrific restaurant. The food was tremendous, the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The owner personally came to the table and chatted with us, and the service in general was terrific. We had quite a variety of starters, sides, and mains, and every single thing was terrific. Went again with my family and took the advice of the wait staff and took whatever they recommended. Just terrific. Highly recommend!

Food was alright. The customer service was the worst. Server mocked me when I queried and let him know I got Severe nut allergy and if they don’t have anything , it’s alright . The server mocked me for that and continued to make rude comments. I wanted to leave but food already was on the table thought to let that go, the server continued to mock if we asked for menu for other stuff to order and we were asked to leave the moment we finished, we were going to order more. It was the worst experience, no customer service nothing . Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. We weren’t given proper bill and service charge wasn’t even an option, it was charged for the worst service ever.

The food is quite good and the restaurant staff seems nice, however, the bill is very confusing and handwritten, and we have been tricked/pressured into paying a 10% service charge twice. A 10% service charge was already added to the handwritten check although THAT WAS NOT MADE CLEAR at all. The waiter then asked us, albeit politely, if we wanted to add a service charge to the total value on the check, making it seem that it wasn't already included. We had a pleasant night overall, but the feeling of being duped on the way out ruined it. From reading the other reviews, I can now see this is the restaurant's MO.

We were looking for an open restaurant in Edinburgh on a Sunday evening and this one was the only chance we found, so we tried it. Nice experience, food was good and we all love spicy bites... so... ;-) It was a first time for this kind of food for us and we really enjoyed it.

Third time here in as many weeks and once again it didn't disappoint. This time I was recommended a dish that wasn't on the menu and having fully earned my trust from previous visits, I decided to go for it. And I'm glad I did. Just as good as always and I walked away full and happy. Thanks again for looking after me and another great meal.

Walked in an ordered takeaway, food came out very fast. Incredibly rich spices and it was clear the curry had been made from scratch. So often restaurants will pass off curry paste as home cooking. Not with this restaurant. Happy to say me and my girlfriend were properly surprised by how good the food was. The owner was also very generous even for two people that just came in for takeaway. Brilliant

Came in on a cold, miserable night which was instantly made better when I stepped through the door. Great experience all round - excellent, flavoursome food which which was clearly freshly cooked to order, and lovely people who made me feel very welcome. I will definitely back.

I came here on New Year evening with 3 other friends; one a vegetarian, one a pescaterian and 2 meat eaters. We ordered a main dish each and a naan each, and we scrapped our bowls clean, leaving the place with full bellies and taste buds zinging. It was a fun start to our evening and we still talk about the tasty food, 6+ weeks later. In response to 2 negative reviews posted recently about the staff. Yes - there is a waiter who perhaps comes across a little surly/abrupt but rather than be offended by him like others appear to have been from the looks of their reviews, we chose to be entertained by his briskness and looked forward to him returning with the food, and returning with dessert menus. In addition to that, his brisk nature was more than offset by other members of the team who were arms-open & welcoming. It was a busy night, and yes - the table was cleared quickly, and yes, we got the vibe that they'd like us to not dawdle, but were we rushed out? No. And besides, they have other customers to serve and a business to run so again, we chose not to be offended. If I go back to Edinburgh, I'd choose Indian Lounge over that posh-Indian chain that has queues out the door for its over-priced & over-hyped offerings.

Amazing food, quick service and friendly staff

Very warm welcome, lots of choice, tasty dishes, the no spicy still very spicy, but Indian cuisine is like that, haha. The boss is very friendly with his few words of French, his mint chocolates and his anecdotes. We had a very pleasant time and meal for prices not too high for Edinburgh.

We had been to this restaurant on previous visits to Edinburgh and have never been disappointed. We went for an early meal as we were only there for the day. Food was tasty and piping hot. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were very reasonable.

I had takeaway. We're visiting Edinburgh for couple nights. My wife doesn't like Indian cuisine. I adore it and was passing so thought take a chance. Chicken Jalfezi. Nan bread. Which is enough for me now £12. Is great. Ate in hotel room. I used to be great consumer of Indian food so it's been a while! The dish was delicious and sauce well balanced and dipping garlic naan was awesome. I can recommend this humble Indian restaurant/takeaway without hesitation Thank you. I know I didn't order a feast. But I'll revisit next time I'm in town. David Thompson

Food good enough but service so rude! They push you out of their establishment… You have to eat starter main and dessert in half hour.

Very rude behaviour from the person who came to collect the order. He looks like the care person or may be the manager. When asked for quantity of the dishes, he behaved very rudely and did not respond clearly. We immediately decided to leave the place without ordering anything.

best garlic naan i've ever tried, the curries were also amazing. i had the vindaloo which was a tad over my spice threshold however it still tasted great, my girlfriend had the coconut tiki masala which she said was amazing. the waiters were very friendly aswell.

Went with my wife for dinner this evening and would thoroughly recommend. Food was excellent as we're the staff who where very welcoming and the service was very good. Hope to come again and got to give special mention to Guru Chef.

Had a fantastic meal with 7 friends for a birthday—we weren’t really sure what to get so our server, the wonderful Guru Chef, proposed a full buffet special and it was amazing! Could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Guru Chef!

We ate in this beautiful place on a Friday night and the Guru chef served us some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted! I was in Edinburgh just for two days but I would come back for sure if I lived there! The food was the right amount of savoury sweet and spicy, and very light as well! I reccomend the coconut chicken tikka So good!

Most enjoyable Indian tonight. We have been in Edinburgh since Monday and without a doubt this has been our favourite. We went for meal for two chef's choice and it was real good. Staff were really friendly and offered us a free drink. Gave us chocolates and pen. Will definitely recommend and come back.

Great wee fine while walking along rose street, will deffo be back

Although it seems hidden on Rose Street, it is definitely worth it. From the moment you enter you are treated first class. But the crown is their food, it transports you to India, the tika masala has been one of the best!

Full bellies, amazing flavours and perfect portions!

Had the best lamb and chicken Karahi, thank you Indian lounge! The nans are so fluffy and curry was cooked to perfection. My boy has gluten and nut allergies they were really accommodating it amazingly! So many gluten free options! Definitely will be back there!

We went to the restaurant around 3 pm on a Wednesday Afternoon, and asked them if they were serving, to which they replied yes. We ordered a potion of Chole puri and an aloo paratha, on placing the order the server/owner asked us if this was the only order, to this is replied saying it’s all or now we will order again after having this. On listening to this the server/owner was annoyed and asked us to leave the restaurant, as they won’t take order until we don’t order at least a meal. On discussing they said come when you are very humiliating. I would not recommend this restaurant to any one if you want to have a pleasant meal go to any other place but this. They do not treat their customers nicely and are very rude arrogant and mean. Neglect this place.
