Indian Chefs in Southend-on-Sea

The menu is that of an authentic Indian restaurant but the food is actually Bangaldeshi/Indian that you get from other so-called Indian restaurants. Chicken dum biriyani is definitely not meant to be like what I recieved. These guys need to go to Eastham or Upton Park to know what an authentic dum biriyani is meant to look or taste like. Avoid!

Ordered via Foodhub as I was staying in a nearby hotel, food was tasty and delivered on time. The chicken biryani had good number of well cooked chicken pieces in them. The egg fried was delicious. Would highly recommend for any meal of the day.

Visited for the first time yesterday evening and it is safe to say we'll be returning. This really was a superb experience all-round. Atmosphere, service and food were all spot on. My new favourite Indian restaurant.

I’ve went there 4 times with my partner the food is lovely! I’m a fan of big spice so be careful if you’re sensitive to it. We love it so much we travel from London to eat here once a year as we live there. We will definitely be back again soon!

The worse experience I have ever had. Cold take away, potatoes were black in the middle. Strange texture. No depth of flavour, just spice. I have eaten a full range of Indian cuisine from take way to fine dining and honestly this was by far the worse. Called the restaurant to discuss and was basically told I was lying as they were the best restaurant in Westcliff and Leigh. If we dont like then dont come back! So unbelievably rude. Had to bin the entire meal and the restaurant could not care less.

Ordered a takeaway tonight and the food was cold and of poor quality. Soggy stodgy onion bajis, aloo potatoes were black and soggy, aubergines were oily, slimy and overcooked. I called the restaurant to try and resolve but was told that if I don't like it, I shouldn't order from there again. I will be taking their advice!

The food here isn’t only the most delicious Indian food I’ve ever eaten, but the most amazing FOOD I’ve had the pleasure of consuming on a number of occasions, and it never disappoints. Such welcoming service and a great atmosphere. Love it here. Thank you so much.

NOT A RESTAURANT FOR A RELAXING MEAL. Booked reservation and felt very rushed. We had a time slot of 1hour 45mins. The restaurant was full so strangers had to share a table. Throughout the meal the staff kept coming over to our table to check on us, multiple times. (Rushing us) This was supposed to be a relaxing birthday meal with my brother, to eat, drink and catch up. We didn’t get starters, the mains were EXTREMELY spicy. The korma and sang paneer are very mild dishes, but served with extreme amounts of spice here. We asked for dessert and were told no. The whole experience was rushed and too spicy. I do have an experience with their takeaway before I dined in. The food was still very spicy (I thought it was a one off), and they didn’t bother to deliver it. I went to collect. The member of staff said he tried our doorbell, I told him it works, then he said I didn’t answer my phone, and I told him it didn’t ring. Such a shame a local restaurant turned out to be a flop, I won’t be going back or recommending.

I couldn't recommend enough, the food has been exceptional, and I'm proud to day for these lovely people but this has been the best Indian restaraunt I've ever eaten at, don't beleive me? try for yourself otherwise you are missing out, my tastebuds have been blown away!!

The best North Indian cuisine ever

Really authentic and delicious Indian food. I visited the restaurant while on a vacation from Mumbai and was truly delighted by the quality of food served. We liked the food so much that we visited them for dinner twice during our short stay. The food can be compared to some of the best Indian food I've had in Mumbai. One should try the daal makhani, laccha paratha, chicken curry Delhi style, garlic naan and paneer tawa masala. The salad was tangy and just the perfect addition to the plate. The staff is really friendly and helpful as well and really easy to talk to. Would definitely visit the restaurant again for a hearty Indian meal on my next visit to South End.

The tastiest and most authentic Indian food in Southend, the Sunday evening thali is a must. We love the family atmosphere and friendliness too.

Had one of the worst experiences of my life. It was one of the finest restaurants in town. But now it’s not. They have to rethink about the future if they have decided to go ahead by serving these kind of food. Totally disappointing

We were a party of 5, we had researched the local Indian restaurants and this one seems to get the best reviews. Turns out that’s those reviews were correct, really impressive food with deep flavour and real depth. Good service and great food. In my top ten curries of all time, outstanding.

Bibin, Rayan and the team are the best ! My wife and I moved to the area about 2 years ago and discovered this gem of a restaurant. The food and service is amazing (you have to have the manchurian), we take everyone that visits us there. We love it so much, we had them cater our wedding recently, where they knocked it out the park. Our guests have raved about it and we understand that some took the menu card so they could go along and re order. Thanks guys, see you on HCR or Maldon soon !

Great indian restaurant and takeaway, serves authentic indian cuisine. It has a variety of veggie and vegan options too so would definitely recommend.

It’s always a good time when I go here. Consistently enjoyable food full of flavour (especially the starters) and as always, lovely staff. As in Indian, I can confidently say this is my favourite Indian restaurant

Delicious authentic food both eat in and delivery are excellent.

Just been to the Indian chefs thought we would try the Thali on a Sunday night, it was tiny and everything just looked like a load of mashed up food. When it came out. I noticed it said unlimited, but we where never offered more food. The service wasn’t great. I put that down to be in a Sunday night as we have been here before and it’s been excellent, but I wouldn’t recommend it for Thali on a Sunday. It’s a shame as we were really looking forward to having a nice Indian meal.

I ordered a large order for collection for a birthday. I was worried as first time but I had nothing to worry about. All dishes were delicious. Portion size was good and everything tasted different and freshly made. We all enjoyed the food despite having very different tastes and heat tolerance. We had lots off varieties and even the kids love it that say it all. Can't wait to dine in.

Wouldn't rush back, food ok but opposite to other Indian food we've eaten. What you think is mild is very spicy so need help from staff when ordering. What is on drinks menu is not what they have on offer so again need to be flexible. Ladies loo is also for disabled. Pretty sure a disabled person would struggle as loo is very low down which I thought was the opposite to what it should be. Also could do with redecoration, bit scruffy.

It's was a pleasant experience but I have had better but guess that is down to personal preference and dish choice.

Great food. Delicious food from india infused with two different areas of india. We loved the freshness of the fish. The excellant service from the owner and a personal chat with their customers they gave. Never had aubergines cooked like that ever before. Highly recommended. Opening soon in New Malden.

We have been here multiple times in the last year, both for dine-in and takeaway food. The food is consistently impressive, fresh tasting, well balanced and tasty. It is certainly the most authentic Indian food we have experienced in the Southend area, and we have sampled many local restaurants and have been to India several times. Many of my Indian friends also rate this place. We are always warmed by the friendly genuine service and value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

We found this restaurant after a show at the Palace Theatre. Wonderful food, freshly prepared, and quality ingredients. The Lamb Biriani particularly good. The staff were friendly, welcoming attentive too. We will be back!

Not happy with the service. We had a booking and when seated nobody came over to us to ask if we'd like a menu or even acknowledged us. The restaurant wasn't busy and they were just wondering around talking amongst themselves. This place was recommended to us and travelled down from London. Was left disappointed after waiting such a long time and ended up walking out. * I said we had a reservation for 6 o'clock however we was early and the gentleman said to sit anywhere. Nothing was handed over to us

Ambience is too good and the food is so delicious. We ordered non-veg thali and asked to make it spicy(as we are South Indian ). It takes too much time but it’s worth to wait to get a delicious tasty food. I recommend it to everyone, but mainly for Indians.

This was our first visit to The Indian Chefs based on the recommendation by one our friends. In my experience of living in UK for over 15 years I can say that authentic Indian restaurants are far and few. You may get Indian food everywhere but they are not authentic or as flavoursome. Indian chefs are one of those authentic places. The ambience is great and fish tank right in the middle of it does a good job to give a sense of privacy and keep children/adults interested and curious. Food has been really good and full of flavour. We had tandoori salmon which was tender, had a smoky flavour and the right amount of spice along with succulent Veg Manchurian and delicious lamb dum biriyani. It's a family restaurant run by a family who are doing great job on serving authentic Indian cuisines. I will highly recommend a visit.

Great restaurant run by a lovely family, not the usual thing of staff who don’t really want to be there! Have been for several Indian curries in the Southend postcode, and this place is my favourite. Next time I go I will take photos of the food as it is very well presented and you can find things on this menu you don’t see in other places.

Ate here at this authentic Indian restaurant tonight with my partner, son and mum. Lovely food, atmosphere and service. The food had lots of flavour, although it was a little spicy for me but what really made it special was the service. My son has coeliac disease which means he cannot have any gluten, the lady who served us spent a lot of time going through which dishes were safe for him to eat. The chefs ensured that his food was cooked separately in new oil and that his food was handled safely. Really cannot fault the quality of this restaurant.

Having spent a couple of years in India over a couple of decades I have experienced wonderful food of all types. This restaurant is the closest I've experienced in authenticity to taste. I'm always happy eating from here. It's the best I have had outside of India.

I'd ordered a butter chicken and hadn't expected it to be so spicy (normally it's a sweet creamy dish when I've ordered it elsewhere). This is the best cooked chicken dish I've ever had. I found out that unlike a Bangladeshi curry house where the meat is precooked, The Indian Chefs cook their meat fresh, I wish this was my local curry house!

We had the meat and vegetarian thali and it was superb - very authentic. The service was fantastic. We've eaten here a few times and it's getting better each time. Very minor point but plate heaters for the smaller dishes would be good.

Decent food, speedy service, reasonably priced.

This was my first visit to this restaurant and the food was lovely, it just took a little while to arrive. We also had to ask if poppadoms were included as other tables had been given them and we hadn't so a few little mishaps. The food was tasty and nicely presented the mushroom side was particularly good so I would try again in the future to see if the kinks are worked out.

I've just had a chicken jalfrazi, it was basically tiny bits of chicken in cream with peppers and onion, with a touch of chilli heat, there was no curry flavour. This was not a jalfrazi and it was bland and tasteless

Me and my friends came from London for a day trip and after having a long walk along the cost we got hungry and decided to find a place to eat. To our luck we ended up in this beautiful restaurant. The place is very welcoming, traditional but with a modern twits. I really enjoyed the decor, especially the big tank with fish! The food was delicious and beautifully served! You can tell it was made with love. It was so well seasoned. We had proper feast! The lady who served us was very nice and attentive. We had a lovely chat. I will definitely return to this restaurant next time I am in the area.

What a fabulous meal we have just had! We were in the area visiting family and decided to try the Indian Chefs based upon previous reviews. We were not disappointed! The food was exceptional and full of flavour, the service was extremely friendly and helpful. We would absolutely recommend this to any one looking for authentic Indian food. The only problem is that we live in London otherwise it would become our go to takeaway or restaurant. We will definitely be back though!

Love this place! Great food and great service. We were a fairly large group (15) and we were well looked after and the service was impeccable. The menu was comprehensive and varied and everyone enjoyed the food which was excellent. A cut above the usual high street fare.

We have just finished our takeaway food and it was amazing! We ordered a few different dishes to share between 4 people and it did not disappoint. The food was tasty, fresh and most of all it was still nice and hot when we got it.

Fantastic food, love the Sunday set meal thalis, meat or veggie, very good value and nice to try different dishes. Lots to choose from on the normal menu, including some stuff you don't see in your bog standard tandoori restaurant. Staff are lovely, highly recommended

Been here several times now. The food has been delicious every time. Very attentive service but when it's busy there is usually a wait for your food, but it is worth it. Some unusual dishes too if you feel like a change. Highly recommended.

My family and I dined at the restaurant last night for the first tine and we were not let down! The owners kept the restaurant open later than usual just for us. The service and overall atmosphere was amazing - drinks came out quickly and food was served piping hot. Both the non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes were delicious. Normally vegetarians lose out as vegetarian dishes at Indian restaurants can be bland and boring but both the veggie starters and mains at The Indian Chefs were exceptional - very unique and appetising! We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for such a wonderful experience :)

Went here for a birthday dinner with family last night - 13 of us in total. Travelled to South-End for the day. Amazing food and service! Been to countless Indian restaurants but this is up there with the best of them! Non-vegetarian starters and vegetarian were great - highly recommend the mixed grill and the huge tandoori king prawns! Main course was lovely too. Will definitley be going back! :-)

First time eating here since moving to the area and couldn't be happier. Lovely, friendly, helpful service and amazing food to boot! All freshly cooked and a great choice, plus they are very accommodating in making up something not on the menu. Will definitely be recommending them and returning soon. I visited Indian chef restaurant last Sunday with my family on my birthday. I must say, I enjoyed every single bite of the meal. I ordered Indian thali, which served with Daal palak, Paneer Makhani, Aaloo saag, fruit clustered, starter . Considering the quality, the price is reasonable 10.99 per thaali . Ideal for those who love eating food.

What a fabulous meal. We had the thali, which was a new experience for me, and I loved it. Not only was the food great but it was reasonably priced, and the staff were all so friendly. We will definitely be back.

Discovered the Indian Chefs after a recommendation from a work colleague whilst visiting Southend. On our arrival the pleasant and calming atmosphere was greatly enhanced by the amazing fish in the beautiful aquarium. Our dining experience was an absolute delight. The owner recommended several dishes and explained how they differed from the run of the mill indian restaurants. The food was of amazing quality and a real treat of authentic and traditional indian cuisine. We would throughly recommend and we will be going for our second visit tomorrow, just a week later!

Delicious, authentic food and the owners are so lovely. We had the manchurian starter, chicken curry and paneer makhani for mains with yummy garlic naan and saffron pilau. Amazing spread and great portion sizes too! Couldn't recommend this place more :)

Great place to taste proper Indian food. They have shown consistent taste over 6different orders. I think this is the only place in five years where they are good in their service and quality food.
