Yak & Yeti in Southend-on-Sea

A really nice meal, I ate too much, this was due to the food being so tasty!

Having a birthday on a Monday is not a great day but decided to try a new place to eat and am glad to say we did, the food is amazing! Everything was cooked fresh and tasted perfect!!! We even took home a doggy bag as was far to much to eat but will have lunch tomorrow, staff were very friendly but not in your face and can honestly say we will be returning.

First time here. V good choice of veggie and vegan options.

Meat and Veggie Thali are well worth trying out. Very tasty and really good value.

Ordered £30 0f food for delivery and dint get any complimentary poppadoms, would have ordered them but thought this was a complimentary item.

Looked forward to our delivery, turned up fairly hot ok. I love having a lamb biriyani and always finish them. This second time I’ve had one from here tasted soggy, watery and a strange taste Have seen a few other reviews saying it’s butch made, frozen then microwaved. Thus the stickers on top of containers to render what’s been cooked. Not fresh. Only could mange quarter microwave container Think stick to local Indian. Not a place that does three different types of cooking.

My first time at the yuck and yeti. My biriani was well presented on a lovely gold plater with a potion of veg curry. However, my biriani, which is usually my favourite dish, was over salted and wet. I fail to see why the waiter asked if everything is ok when not prepared to do anything about it if you complain. My complaint was ignored. I paid full price but didn’t enjoy my meal. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you like lots of salt on your food.

A very nice restaurant, friendly staff and delicious food. A few things out of the ordinary on the menu from standard Indian fare which made a change, staff very helpful and accommodating. Will definitely return.

Been meaning to go here for years and glad I did. Everything was great. The staff were very very helpful. We had to wait for friend who was late and they kept the buffet open for us. I will be going back as soon as I can.

Another nice buffet meal this weekend. Plenty of choice and fresh things being brought out all the time. Good value for money. We always say it these guys need to smile and show some warmth to their customers. It goes a long way.

Came for a lady raising money for charity. All seated ready for buffet. All paid upfront. Popadoms were brought to the table with the sauces etc. Approx 15 mins later a waiter just slapped a receipt plate on table and said £10 for popadoms we were all shocked as usually popadoms come with a meal. So the restaurant made an extra £100 on popadoms from our tables Terrible still cannot believe it

Friday 6th October ....Thought we would try the Yak again after not going for a couple of years due to very poor food/takeaways. What a mistake!! Really bad food AGAIN. Onion bhaji was so hard and dry, had it been re heated many times??? Poppadoms soft and bendy, chicken biryani had a very strange taste and a lot of mint in it unpleasant, chicken in our chicken tika was not edible, very strange texture/unpleasant. The only thing we could eat was a cold garlic nann !!!! very very poor again !

Fantastic food, authentic and tasty amd prices very reasonable Staff wete lovely and didnt hassle us or rush us at all. Nice and quiet relaxed atmosphere Will definitely come again

Went to the Yak and Yeti this evening with my wife, and the food was up to its usual high standard. We find the Nepalese food much less greasy than traditional Indian food. The staff are always friendly and have a great rapport with their customers. Would highly recommend this restaurant, its a cut above the average, and deserves its high rating.

This Sunday evening, we decided to go to Yak and Yeti for their weekly buffet special. We have been customers since the early start of this year and this was our 3rd visit. The first time we went, we had the a La carte menu and the second time we had their buffet. Each occasion we went, we could not fault the food, although our only complaint was the prices of their popadoms which are normally complimentary at other restaurants. However, this occasion, when we decided to have their buffet again, it was a completely different experience for the worst. Firstly, we noticed the furnishings and decor were not up to previous cleanliness standards. There were dirt marks over the walls, the nails were sticking out of the woodwork and the ceiling was a yellow/brown colour where there clearly was a ceiling leak before. Secondly, we found the waiting staff to be clumsy, dropping our knives and forks on the floor. Lastly, our biggest concern was the quality of the food. The food at the buffet was cold, the chicken was chewy, some of the chicken was slightly pink and other bits of the chicken had blood spots where this had not been removed from the chicken properly. Our last and biggest issue with the food was that the freshly cooked food was being mixed in with the cold foods they were meant to be replacing which is a huge health and safety concern. When we asked for the bill, the manager came over and asked if anything was wrong with the food. We didn’t want to cause a big fuss so we tried to say there wasn’t anything to complain about. However, the manager kept pushing due the the foods left on our plates which made us quite uncomfortable. Then he started complaining about us leaving so much food to then be thrown away. Because of this, we explained our reasons for leaving the food but he became defensive, making it feel like we were at fault. We don’t like confrontation and we were not planning on writing this review but due the manager’s conduct, we felt it was necessary and wanted to share our bad experience.

Dreadful Indian. If you’re ordering a delivery my advice is to repeat how much they are charging in numbers rather than the price as we ended up paying £5 more than we were told on the phone. It wouldn’t have been too bad if we had ordered a meal instead of a few side dishes to enhance a curry we had cooked. What arrived did nothing to enhance the meal and was less than average. Sag aloo with a few huge chunks of potato chucked in what appeared to be an afterthought, beige tasteless mushroom bhaji and a peshwari nann that was devoid of sultanas. We won’t be ordering from here again, just dreadful!

Large Indian/Nepalese restaurant, always looks empty but always serves up some good food at a reasonable price

First time coming here with the girls and loved it! Reasonable price, good quality food that was very yummy!!chilled environment. We mixed and matched dishes and it was all good! Any suggestion is bigger tables as we were snug with four of us and all our food options. Would recommend though!

We've eaten in there before and it was lovely, had a meal on the 15th Feb and it was mostly tastless. And getting a bill of £250 for a meal we could have made better ourselves was a joke. Korma had no flavour only coconut, the soft shell crab was greasy and inedible. I didn't make a fuss in the restraint as it was a family meal, but you're getting the review the meal deserved.

Our favourite Indian for takeaway is just as good if not better when you eat in! Friendly service, food was beautifully prepared and tasted great. The restaurant wasn't very busy either so perfect for catching up with friends at a leisurely pace. Highly recommended

This is our second take away from the Yak and Yeti Leigh. I’m sure it was lovely last time but I wanted to share how delicious this meal was tonight. They were so busy tonight (NYE) but the food still arrived after about an hour and was piping hot. The whole family including the kids really enjoyed it. Will certainly be coming back for our next take away.

Excellent. The Yak & Yeti provides an interesting variation on the staple Indian restaurant menu. Those looking for traditional Indian cuisine will not be disappointed but the Nepallese dishes are treats to be discovered and make an interesting change. Prices are sensible and the service fast and polite

The place is good clean and neat. Smells clean. Did not enjoy the food at all. The price for a buffet £14 is way too much with minimal varieties of food and no deserts. Rice was dry. Will never go back.

Amazing grub, decent inexpensive Sauvignon Blanc

Got a take away from here recently, must say order was correct, hot and food was some of the tastiest we've had in a long time. Just to add I lived in India for 6 months and so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to tasty curry #Goa #Delhi #Jaipur

This was our first visit to Yak and Yeti although we've driven past many times. We weren't disappointed. The staff are very friendly. The food was delicious and the the surroundings were great too. This will definitely not be out last visit as we are planning our return already. We'll worth a visit you wo t be disappointed.

The food was good, tasty and hot. The herby chicken dish was delicious. Some dishes were a bit sweet but others were not. Not the nicest wine, Pinot Grigio tasted cheap. My complaint is the bill! They put three items on that we didn’t order!!...

Quality food, good size portions, but half of it arrived almost cold

Lovely meal, buffet re-filled even though we arrived 10 mins before closing! Good value.

Food was absolutely gorgeous, restaurant was spotless, staff were brilliant they didn't rush you and had a wicked sense of humour. We would 100% recommend this restaurant. Can't remember the last time we such a good meal.

Absolutely shocking quality of food and service. 0 flavour or quality. Have eaten at MANY Indian restaurants and this is the worst meal we’ve had. The manager did eventually apologise and said it was because the restaurant was busy, but this isn’t acceptable. The veg thali consisted of tasteless mixed veg curry (mainly courgette) with only ONE piece of paneer, flavourless dhal and stir fried spinach when it was meant to be saag aloo. When I said that it contained no potato, the waitress lied and said it didn’t say saag aloo on the menu and that is what is always included but when we checked it did! When we told her she didn’t say anything. Rubbery, leather like chapati. Hugely expensive for what it was and tiny portion of curries on the thali. Other curries ordered were so average. So disappointing that it took 45 mins for the starter and a further hour for the mains! Went to McDonald’s after, it was that bad.

Perfect takeaway as always. I ordered the Xacuti for the first time. It was honestly the best curry I have ever had, really lovely and fresh!

Very nice staff and great food. Ignore the moaners on here and give it a try. There's just no pleasing some people obviously. I recommend the non veg thali selection, which is a nice sample of lots of dishes on one platter. Very nice, thank you

Wonderful food....and service...we'll be bak!

My daughter came back from 3 months volunteering in Nepal raving about mo mo's. The Yak and Yeti have vegetable and meat versions of mo mo's and they take 20 mins to steam, so we let them know we wanted the vegetable ones for a starter on arriving. Ate poppadoms whist waiting. The mo mo's were delicious! We had the vegan Thali for main course. Also delicious! One of our party doesn't like spicy food, so they made a very mild vegetable biryani which he enjoyed. My husband had the chicken tikka masala and steamed rice and said it was the best one he'd ever had. It was our first visit to this restaurant and it's a beautiful place. A super restaurant for special occasions.

Absolutely rubbish never have I tasted Samosas that taste and look like pies. Rice was rubbish curry tasted like pure garlic. Wish I'd had gone mcdonalds

Went there tonight for my husband's 50th birthday and the food was amazing! Excellent polite staff, owner/manager is so lovely and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful interior too. Thank you for a lovely meal and evening.

Dilep was very helpful, and the vegetarian food was fantastic. Very reasonable prices. Highly recommended. Third visit, will definitely return.

Really expensive! £52 for three people! No complimentary poppadoms which was a great disappointment. My seafood platter was overcooked and no accompanying sauce. Huge disappointment for all of us! Never coming back!

Excellent food in a friendly atmosphere, with helpful staff made for lovely meal with friends.

The food is always really tasty here and it's always the go to takeaway for us but eating in is always an odd experience. Admittedly, I was there on a Tuesday night so not likely to be heaving but even then it was dead. Food is always great though so worth a look if you can overcome the lack of atmosphere.

The food was very nice, slightly different menus from the normal with things like duck and Nepalese added. The service was very good. The chicken was very nice with lovely flavours mine was a little rubbery hence the star knocked off.

Never eaten in the restaurant but have ordered take away a few times. Best Curry down south in my opinion! My husband and I are used to a good northern curry and not one so far here has matched it until we tried yak & yeti! Would highly recommend!

Went with a group for friends for a curry and the service was outstanding! The waiters were attentive, we didn’t wait long for our orders and the curry was certainly full of flavour and spice. Will be back soon

Wow, just wow. We had a takeaway last night at a friends house in Leigh. I have to say it is the best Indian food I have eaten outside of India. Truly delicious. Highly recommend and we are vegetarian. Thank you

Ordered £40 odd worth of food and this never showed up. Restaurant said there was nothing they would do and offered no help. Hungry tummies and disappointed. I wouldn’t bother with them sorry

Ok so I need to tell you guys- I ordered 2 starters and a main for 31£ on Deliveroo- used the WEGETFOOD for 10£ discount and the bill was 21£. However when I ordered the same from YnY directly was £19!!! wat a scam by deliveroo. Any way the food is great for the price- We had the chicken lollipop which is a favourite when it comes to Indo chinese- and it was authentic. The only thing was would’ve wanted the capsicum sauce given separately as the crispy gram flour batter on the chicken was soggy. Next mutton momos- the casing was raw right on the top but where it was thick- but still edible and relish. I must commend the best bit was the delicate tangy ginger dipping sauce- much better than the sweet fare you get with the chinese dumplings. Then the Timor Piro- at best i would describe it as a peppery butter chicken- smelt like butter chicken but tasted peppery like it said it would. It’s not the best curry. Good amount amount of spice . Could taste some sugar too. Did get the sinuses running but was still alright for my 3 yr old. Over all not a bad takeaway. Standard not outstanding.

We have been looking for a decent Indian for a long time since our favourite closed down and we have just found it! The curries were really tasty with a good number of well cooked meat. Service was quick and friendly given the current lock down. Thanks Yak and Yeti

After returning from Nepal last year during lockdown, I have been waiting for the restaurant to reopen.Today we got impatient and ordered a takeaway, I ordered some vegetable momos ( which I ate nearly every day in Nepal on the way to Everest Base Camp) , and they were awesome , exactly like they tasted in Nepal itself.Everything we ordered was amazing, really tasty, large portions and delivered at the time promised.We can’t wait till the restaurant opens again so we can go and have a sit down meal. Hopefully they might serve Everest beer .Until then we will DEFINITELY be having another takeaway.Keep up the fantastic work

Visited here last night . Booked in at 8 , we arrived on time only to find we had to wait 20 minutes for a table . It was the last night before 2nd Lockdown and the place was rammed . Obviously still people taking advantage of the eat out discount but why not !Due to the delay and the amount of customers alarm bells started ringing but they quickly disappeared . We were served drinks quickly and after ordering our food and anticipating a long wait and having to bolt our food down in time for the 10pm curfew the food arrived extremely quickly and it was amazing . Superb fresh flavours wafting around the table . Most of the party had the Thali dish which the waiter was happy to indulge our requests slightly changing the choice of curry . Nothing was too much trouble , the food outstanding and we were out by 10pm very happy . Full marks to the staff on their slick operation whilst servicing super food . Impressed

Food is amazing. Whether that’s takeaway or in the restaurant, have been a few times now. Staff professional and attentive but not friendly. Covid rules followed well.

Haven't been here for a long while but went Saturday and it's had an up date very nice, service was very accommodating, asked for a meal that was not on the menu but produced it and when it came WOW!! one of the best dhansak I've had in a long time,can't wait to go back .
