This place has got more expensive and there is less of it. The mixed grill is £18. Not what it was a few years ago. The prawn curry - which was tasty - is £15/16. The two poppadoms and a few dips are £5 when they should be free or next to nothing. It all add up to £71 for a family meal for three not including any tip. Pricey for what it is.

Great food, lovely wine, very good service. Decent portion sizes, the dhansak was extremely good. Would definitely go back, the atmosphere had a nice buzz too.

The best curry we've had for ages. Relaxed atmosphere and good service. Look forward to going again if we're ever in Arundel.

We were in Arundel visiting on a Tuesday and looked up this restaurant to see that previous reviews were not good but we phoned and booked a table anyway. We walked into town from our hotel 13 minutes away as the weather now was very good. A few people were sitting in there already and by the end of our meal they were full up and the phone was ringing for takeaways as well . We ordered our staters and main course with drinks and the service was very good. Yes during our meal they were keeping an eye on how were we progressing through our meal but we did not feel pressurised to hurry, Our meal was very good and tasted as we expected to meals we have in other restaurants.

Took my family out for a birthday meal, within 2 minutes of sitting down (in the near empty restaurant) we were asked what we wanted to order. Within the space of 5 minutes we were approached another two times asking what we wanted to order, then the manager came out and said “as it’s a busy Saturday night you need to hurry up”. This is not the way to start a meal, being harassed!! If I wasn’t with my family I would have walked out. Menus were snatched from us by waiters that didn’t look like they wanted to be there. As we were eating we heard an angry customer refuse to stay any long due to them harassing them time wise. Food came and myself and my mother’s dishes were tasteless. Wait staff didn’t check if we wanted more drinks. And we felt like we were being hurried out the door, asked for the check and that took 15 mins to arrive. In the end I had to go up and pay as no one came back to the table. Very poor customer service, tasteless food, would never return

Always have an excellent meal here, food is great and service very good. Would recommend booking, we had chicken khadary and chicken pathia, was delicious.

Not great at all. We both ordered the Meen Mole a £13 fish dish. It was from frozen, over cooked and dry. When mentioned to the waiter he said it was because “they wanted to get us our food quick as people complained about a wait for it before”. Not a suitable answer really. It was really substandard. Also was not that hot which is worrying regarding food safety standards. Also asked for a green salad and was all sliced tomato thick sliced onion and some ends of cucumber. We are local to Arundel, and tonight was a treat so very disappointed. Don’t bother going.

Food was lovely, unfortunatly shame I can't say the same about the service !! Not very polite and that goes for all who was working on the 14th August . Shame as it was my birthday . The only reason given very good is because of the food .

Whilst visiting Arundel, we found this brilliant restaurant. As well as all the favourites, the menu had a few surprises. Our meal was perfect. The decor was fantastic, and the background music was a treat. The staff were very busy but still very attentive, and found time for a chat. They're very lucky to have such a good chef. All in all a great experience. Thank-you.

Dinner for 2 on the 17th. We did not book, but had a good sized table in what turned out to be a busy night. Also a lot of take-away orders were picked up....so a lot on the kitchen. Mixed starters can quickly with poppadoms. Good poppadoms and 4 chutneys. Nice mixed starter. My pint of Cobra, not really chilled enough. Something of a wait for main courses - that busy kitchen I guess. Dahl, nice flavour but getting cool quickly in the China dish it was served in. Main course - I conceded was a poor ordering choice. I tried something different. Grilled meat, in a sauce thickened with almond. Not a great sauce, but maybe not what I should have ordered. In my opinion - get the beer cold, keep the main courses hotter - and it will be a nice Indian restaurant.

How to sum up the meal my partner and I had yesterday evening. Tasteless, almost cold. A sort of none meal. My partner had the duck, which was full of bones and hard and dry. My chicken was also dry and the curry just completely tasteless. I had a very suspicion that it had all just been reheated, and not very well. Do yourself a favour and give this place a miss.

The most awful experience and the food was shocking. We was also told the restaurant caters English customers due to there palet taste and mild to hot. Even when we was told this. We thought we would still give it go as it’s only Indian in arundel. Never never 👎 again. We ordered lamb kari - was like very thin sliced lamb. Bit like donnar meat. NO LAMB pieces Joipurui chicken- terrible full of tomatoes and few pieces of chicken. Taste less Rajma - lamb no meat pieces only thin slices of lamb and kidney beans. No thick sauce. Thrown in big onion chunks. Vegetable dishes taste like water no taste no flavours We are Asian and this is not expected of an Indian restaurant to serve the food this way. It’s embarrassing even for them call the food Indian. We feel customers have few many beverages and don’t realise what they are tasting. It’s so sad to say the cuisine at this restaurant could be called Indian food. Chichester has many INdian cuisines. As Arundel being beautiful place this limited food eatery and being let down by INdian cuisine better of making it out of jar. Terrible experience.

We went for mother's day lunch and were greeted by friendly staff..the restrooms were Spotlessly clean. The server was friendly and patient. The food was served piping hot and every dish absolutely delicious!! The server had recommended my duck dish and it was so tasty. The portions were really good and we had a lovely meal and will definitely be back soon. Thanks for a lovely family meal.

Didn't book and quite busy for a Wednesday evening but seated us straight away. Friendly efficient service with extensive menu. Food was delicious.

I have spent the last 40 years enjoying various Indian restaurants and thought we would try the former India Gate now India Royal to see if there was an improvement instead of the conveyor belt in/eat/out quickly of the past visits. It’s still not good and we should have sensed this from the initial phone call to see if they had a free table to be told yes without asking a name or time required. We arrived to find no tables spare and would have to wait. We were happy to wait and 20 minutes later we’re shown to our table. Eventually we were asked if we would like a drink. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine which was placed on the table for us to open and pour ourselves. We again waited and ordered our food. Good choice with some new options. After a brief wait one of our mains was placed roughly to the middle of the table with no mention of what it even was!! 5 minutes passed and the second main dish arrived with our rice, Nan bread and side dish. Again no word of what any of the food was!! No cutlery to eat with so after another wait my Wife got up and went to ask for cutlery. This then arrived again with no speaking again for us to find the rice and side virtually cold. We asked which dish was which and my wife’s dish was not eve what she had ordered!!! We are great lovers of curries and know the dishes well but we’re told by the older member of staff there that we had ordered it wrong!!! The food we had was very nice but the staff’s rudeness and attitude let the place down greatly. I am not a moaner but these guys need to step back and see where they are going wrong. We certainly will not be back and hope people looking for good food with a happy atmosphere go elsewhere. It’s shame that the staff think that because they are the only ones in Arundel that they do not need to bother with simple friendly hospitality and manners. I am sure they have there number of regular diners but equally they have a cast number of dissatisfied clients who are too scared to comment.

A group of us go out each month to a restaurant , we were recommended this place and we’re not disappointed, the staff friendly and helpful with choices, they catered for some of our friends allergies, making suggestions, the food did not disappoint.food how it should taste, we will be back, but may struggle to get a table as we have recommended this restaurant to all our friends.

The food flavouring genie must have taken the night off. To add insult to injury our waiter was brusque and seemed only to want us gone as quickly as possible. Not impressed one little bit. Not going back.

We visited on the Saturday before Christmas visiting Arundel to see family. It’s a good job we got there early as by the time we got to our starters people were literally queuing out of the door. The menu was amazing making the decision on what to have extremely hard. The ostrich tikka I had was what I can only describe as out of this world, everyone else was in a similar position with a variety of different dishes. I had the Bengali fish curry as a main course and it was delicious with plenty of fish and so perfectly balanced you could taste the fish as well as the spices. The service was great. I would highly recommend a visit.

I have eaten here in the past and have had no complaints, but today I felt the need to write about this if only for the owners to hear about what went on.We arrived at around 10.30pm on Saturday last, the place was empty, knowing they were open till 11.30...we checked if they still wanted to serve food, and it appeared there was no problem with us coming in to eat.The waiter, was ok to start with until we told him we wanted a selection of starters and a sharing plate as were not overly hungry. Drinks were ordered and the waiter didn’t seem to be listening to us as he kept insisting we order main courses that we didn’t want. He wasn’t a pleasant character and not once did he try to make us feel comfortable.Whilst waiting for our food we sat chatting, but the in house music was abruptly switched off whilst the kitchen staff were shouting and making a terrible noise whilst cleaning the kitchen.We asked for the music to go back on, but it was of such poor quality it sounded like the kitchen radio and still the staff were making so much noise it was very uncomfortable.When the food arrived, we were once again hassled to buy main courses again, to which we refused.As we were eating the noisy kitchen staff, were still cleaning but this time what bothered us was the overbearing smell of bleach as we ate our food. I made a comment to the waiter about it and there was no apology, just a shrug of the shoulders and the words “that’s what they do at this time of night” The food tasted good, but all the palaver of the service and staff behaviour left a very bad taste in our mouths.We vowed not to go back again.Oh and to top it all as we were leaving, I turned around and saw a member of staff by the kitchen door with a cigarette in his mouth about to light it up.

Lovely decor, impressive as you walk in. The menu has some interesting items, including ostrich, which wasn't available. Unfortunately the actual dishes were average, crab cake starter quite nice but just st nothing to get excited about.The service was so lacklustre, really hard work to get attention and service.A great shame, great little cation and perfect as a central London cation for meeting the family. An average Indian Restaurant. For the good location and outward appearance this could be better. It is expensive for satisfactory, but not remarkable food. The food comes out too quickly, suggesting it is not freshly prepared, but just heated up! Friendly waiters, but not inspirational when it comes to recommending dishes.

We are never disappointed when we eat in India Gate. Every meal is always sublime. The menu is huge and so varied with many different plates from all over India. Would always recommend her. India Gate in Merston is excellent too.

Having just read a few reviews of the restaurant Im going against the grain in many ways. Yes, the staff, especially one, were surly and yes the food is expensive, but......the food we enjoyed last evening was the most delicious we have eaten in an Indian for a very long time.it was very tasty - a lamb madras and a chicken bhuna. The Bombay potatoes take pride of place for their tastiness and flavour and the onion bajee and naans were also cooked just to our liking. It's a shame that the waiter was so morose and it's a touch pricey for us normally, but we're only in town for one night and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Came here with my family , looks lovely when you go in but the staff are just so unwelcoming, started off with popadums which we had only just about started eating and they came out with our starters and just plonked them on the table when we where no where near ready , so having rushed as didnt want a cold starter ..after this course we asked for a good break so we could actually breath for a few mins not much chance of that out came the mains one dish was cold others just ok chips where limp rubbish fries too ,then I'm not sure what I bitten but it was hard grizzle , now I just want to go ..hadn't even touched are wine because everything was so rushed and cannot even explain how miserable and ignorant the staff where ,we never once complained just took are 1/2 of bottle of wine home with us now £135 lighter for 2 adults 2 children and feeling very sick as to what the off tasting grizzle was AVOID THIS PLACE ..

We visited this restaurant during a recent weekend stay in Arundel on a relatively quiet friday evening. We chose vegetarian options and the food was served without waiting too long and the quality was excellent. Unfortunately all the staff that we had the misfortune to meet were abrupt to the point of rudeness, We asked for tap water three times before it arrived, food was slammed down on the table almost with contempt, no one asked if our food was ok and when we asked for our bill we waited 20 minutes having chased and then gave up and paid at the counter. This was despite the restaurant being virtually empty. Come on guys, your chef is great but you need to improve on your customer service standards.

I did not read all the reviews, wish I had. A very dissapointing meal. My Lamb Samosas were small and tasteless, as was my husbands onion Baghi. His Tandori mixed grill looked a mess and poor quality meats- my Madras did not arrive and I was told I had not ordered it-it did arrive and I wondered if it was Mircowaved , the rice portion was small portion. I have been a restaurteur/chef and I took pride in the meals I served. The staff appeared to not want your patronage, with no smiles or asking if your dinner was ok. The food is overpriced, I will not be going back.

We were hungry after watching a cricket match all day and we all fancied an Indian meal. As this was the only Indian restaurant in Arundel our choices were limited. The restaurant has a nice decor and was glad to see they used cloth table napkins.

We had a fantastic meal. Everything was served fresh. Hot and in good time. Very attentive service but not too much. A fair price for a quality meal.

Went there on a Saturday during a bank Holiday weekend. The table was booked for 7.00 pm and we were taken to our table at 7.10pm. Our food order was taken thirty minutes later and the meal was served at 8.30pm. The quality of food was better than the Indian restaurants in Chichester and standard of service was worse. Also, the cost of drinks is not itemised, so that it is advisable to carefully check the bill before paying.

We decided to have a takeaway the last couple of times as the prices have shot up making it a very expensive meal out.

Recently stayed in Arundel on a trip to the UK and ate at the India Gate on two occasions. Both times the food was very good and the service very attentive. I would recommend this Indian restaurant.

Not your normal run-of-the-mill Indian restaurant, a wide varierty of not normally seen such as Punjabi and Mauritian dishes. The food is well cooked and presented, very enjoyable.

Varied menu with specialities and chef’s recommendations. The menu also suited the children in our party. Their choice being Chicken Korma with chips. For myself the choice was Chicken Dansak. This would normally be a favourite but I thought this was a hotter and spicier sauce than I am used to. I thought that the Pilau Rice when served to our table was not hot enough (almost as if it had been sitting for a while before being served to our table.

A very nice cosy restaurant. Food was excellent. A very different style of prawn puri highly recommended.

We met some friends in arundel for dinner , so much choice in this lovely town. The India gate was recommended and did not disappoint. My wife and I return to this beautiful Indian restaurant roughly every 3 months! All I can say about this restaurant is AMAZING! food is absolutely fantastic and 1 of the best curry houses I have ever been to!

wWe booked a table for 4 to celebrate a special occasion, never eaten at restaurant before so we were looking forward to it. On arrival (on time), we were told our table wasn't ready yet, and could we return in 20 minutes, we did so and still no table. After quizzing them they reluctantly told us that our table had been given to another party who had arrived just before us the first time. As they couldn't tell us how long another table would be we had to find elsewhere to eat, which on a Friday night in Arundel was a waste of time.

Can honestly say one of the nicest Indian meals I've had, good sign was really busy on a Monday night, only about for couple of days but would of gone again

Popped in for the first time after many recommendations. I have to say it did not live up to the hype. Maybe because it was December and they were tired but the food was just ok, front of house staff fine, but not too welcoming, just efficient I would say. Would go back, although next time I will bring a friend that thinks it is 5/5 to explain to me why.

As an IT consultant working length and breadth of the country, i’ve eaten in numerous Indian restaurants but I have to say, have never tasted anything better than that at the India Gate. Not only is it the best ever Jalfrezi I have eaten, the staff are the most friendliest and helpful I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Once again a huge thank you to Russell, Sarj and Amit the chef, for you kind hospitality and exquisite cooking, I will definitely be coming back and will have no problems recommending you to others. Good was really lovely although felt like they were not happy that we didn't order more. Too many staff attending to our table, felt like we were being rushed. Staff seemed a bit lost and confused.

We had booked for 10 of us but when we turned up they had not got the table ready. It was a birthday celebration but they did not acknowledge that at all despite the balloons we had with us. We ended up moving tables around ourselves to ensure we all had a seat. The food was just ok and the waiters seemed more bothered by us being there than wanting to provide a service. We would not go back.

For fantastic tasting food which tastes 'home cooked', this is the place to go!! Even the Mango chutney was delicious. Well looked after by Shahim and the others and would definitely return.

We are sorry we normally love Indian food but this was a poor experience. The best part of the meal was a side dish of curried vegetables without dyes. The Chicken Tikka did not taste like any Chicken Tikka dish we had in the past nor did it look like a proper Chicken Tikka meal as it was coloured with orange dye, When we complained the staff said our cooks use colours all the time. Although we live very near to it we will not go to this restuarant again until they stop using artificial coloures and improve their cooking. Also like others we noticed that the staff talk to each other in loud voices through out our meal. They should respect their customers and speak quietly to each other.

We went to the India Gate on a recommendation that the food was good. Indeed it was but the service was very slow. After finishing our main meal there was a long wait for our plates to be cleared. After clearing the plates I asked if we could order desserts and coffees and was told that we had to leave as they needed our table. This was a family celebration for my father's 77th birthday and left us disappointed. My children had been looking forward to a pudding as it's not something we usually do when we go out. I have emailed the restaurant and am hoping they will reply with an offer of some vouchers for my parents to return.

Ik kan me voorstellen dat Engelsen weten wat ze moeten bestellen, voor ons was dat niet zo duidelijk. We kregen niet veel hulp. Toch is het gelukt, allemaal iets te bestellen en het eten was goed. We aten diverse curry's ook vegetarisch en het was allemaal smakelijk. Raadzaam om er rijst en naanbrood bij te nemen.
