Ilfracombe Tandoori in North Devon

Had two meals here with a friend whilst on holiday.Both were excellent and great value for money.The trout tikka was not available,but was substituted with salmon,and quite superb.

We’ve visited quite a few times and each and every time the food, the service and the whole experience has been fantastic. Thoroughly recommend the madras as it’s just perfectly spiced, and the Tarka Dhal is dreamy and the lime pickle is outstanding! We’ve not had to book a table so far as we have just turned up and been seated (winter season) but in peak tourist season I’d suggest booking ahead so you don’t miss out.

First class, reasonably priced food served by very friendly staff. We are regular visitors to this restaurant and have never been disappointed.

Found this little gem whilst on a little getaway. Lovely staff, great decor and very clean restaurant. Food was delicious with great portions and great prices. Would 100% reccomend

Great food, service. Went early booked on line. Seated quickly. Friendly staff. Had a biryani... The house special and it was lovely... These can sometimes be so bland, but not here would highly recommend. Hubby had dansak which he enjoyed. Light fluffy naans too what's not to love.

After a real struggle to find somewhere to eat on bank holiday Monday we found Ilfracombe Tandoori online. We weren’t expecting much having been to Ilfracombe earlier in the day where we not had the best experience but we do like Indian food so figured it worth a try. Restaurant was busy but they managed to find us a table and we were very pleasantly surprised! Service was excellent, food was equally good, absolutely turned our day around! If you’re looking for an Indian meal in North Devon this is the place to go! Definitely recommend!

Best Indian meal ever!!! We visited this restaurant on windy Sunday evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given the chance to catch our breath after walking up the steep hill, then we were presented with sanitised menus. We ordered and the food was bought over swiftly. It was absolutely amazing!! So many wonderful flavours! All working together. We were checked on a few times, but not pestered! Will definitely come back!!

We made a last minute decision to go and eat out - fed up of cooking!! and were we glad we did, an excellent meal, very tasty, with attentive service. The restaurant is being redecorated which is looking lovely. Well done keep up the good work we will be back!

Whilst all the restaurants in the harbour were completely booked we came across this little gem of a restaurant, service was great food was excellent, we thoroughly recommend this restaurant as a must visit,you will not be disappointed

Being on holiday with our friends all the harbour restaurants are fully booked we decided to walk inland a bit and came across this wonderful little Indian restaurant and so glad we did friendly service and really excellent food would definitely recommend

Spent a lovely week in Ilfracombe and decided to try this restaurant for a takeaway. The positive is the food was actually quite nice however the staff are extremely rude. We ordered food for 6 adults and 3 children so the order was quite large but when we questioned a dish we were told you should not phone them if you don’t know you want. At the end of the order when we asked how much it would cost we were told your have a menu in front of you so you can work it out! Overall food is good but staff very rude and would not order from this place again.

We had a day trip to Ilfracombe last Thursday. We remembered how good the curries had been from this curry house in previous years so brought a cool box with us to buy some curries to take home with us. The curries were top notch as always with the meat beautifully and tenderly cooked. Thoroughly recommend this place. It’s better than the curry houses we have in Cheltenham

We visited twice during our stay in Ilfracombe. Food was excellent. Vegetarians well catered for. Prices very reasonable. Varied menu. Waiters friendly and helpful. Really cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We have been to this restaurant a few times before and enjoyed really lovely tasty meals, experiencing different dishes. This last time we had a take-away instead of a sit down meal. This is the first time we have had a take-away there. Unfortunately it wasn't the same standard as we have experienced eating in the restaurant. In fact it was tasteless and very greasy. As we did not have to wait long for our take-away meal I guess none of the food was cooked to order. Maybe the chef was preparing for a busy Saturday night and couldn't be bothered with the early take-aways!! What a shame they have failed to keep up the very good reviews. Sadly it will be quite some time before we visit this establishment again.

Excellent menu with house specials made it difficult to choose what to order. Clean and fresh with very helpful staff. Recommend booking if dining Friday or Saturday.

Restaurant was quite quiet but it was relatively early on a midweek evening. Service was fine, food was very run-of-the-mill but the final bill seemed high for what we had.

Great food very tasty and the service was really fast. Very kind people and felt very welcome. Gives chocolate and a lolly pop to the kids after so we gave them a tip 👍 overall a great experience!!

Shockingly rude senior waiter, reminded of Wardour Street's infamous 'Wong Kei' back in the 1980s. If I could guarantee that level of treatment every time I'd recommend people to go there just for the surreal experience.I ordered a dish marked as medium hot but could not taste any chilli at all and my co-diner had the same experience. Very disappointing.

Ordered from here as we were staying in a lodge for the weekend.. the man on the end of the phone is as every other comment has said! RUDE! When giving the address for our accommodation I mentioned that I was away for the weekend and he said ‘How do you know about us then?’. After taking the order he then hung up without taking my name or saying how long it would be or even bye! So my boyfriend phoned back and he said ‘1 hour’ then hung up again. The food arrived in 10 minutes and was cold! I wouldn’t order from here or advise anyone to with his attitude/ personality again!

Got our order wrong only to be laughed at by the rude ASF staff. The place is tatty and out of date and is the only curry around for miles but really not worth the effort to go to. The food itself was pretty tasteless and bland and with the staff being as rude as they are it's just a place to avoid.

Our first night on holiday just out side llfracombe and the pub next door is shut for refurbishment , so we ordered a takeaway and we wasn't disappointed the food was excellent and plenty of it plus a few extras thrown in and a very prompt delivery . I never thought I'd find a better Indian takeaway out side my home town , how wrong can you be I even rang them up to praise them for the excellent food .

Visiting the town for the first time, my partner and I came to this restaurant. The service was appalling. The place was empty apart from one table. We were shown to a table by one very rude man who answered questions about the menu in a very curt and disrespectful manner. We requested to be served by someone else and we're asked to leave.

Man behind counter very angry little man, rushes you a lot, not friendly, need some personality skills, food is good , one lady waitress was friendly but man not so, told elderly costumer to hurry up , very disappointed the way I was treated , after all he shouldn’t be there for this business

Came in alone and the waiter at the counter made me feel a real disturbance and in a very unfriendly way told me to wait in a corner. When I asked for the menu to look at while I waited, I was rudly told that I would get it when taken to a table. Waiter also said they were really busy, but the place was more than have empty. I was not having that and left again, so don’t know how the food is like, the service certainly did not appeal.

Die Bedienungen waren sehr Freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Portionen waren sehr gross und zudem sehr preiswert.

The Ilfracombe Tandoori is in desperate need of some love and decoration but managed to serve some tasty curries with nice staff ....

Ordered a meal for a specific time which was ten out of ten, but having got home one dish of King Prawn Biriani consisted of 20% prawns and 80% rice. The second dish was Tandoori King prawns which was passable but considering the cost I won’t be going again.

La primera vez que utilizan estas como para llevar espontánea ayer. Metimos en un menú y cogí para elegir en el coche, fue recibido por un hombre muy amable. Realizó el pedido, llegó a 16 libras algo, y me dio un descuento de 14 libras, no podía creer esto y pensé que era tan generoso! La comida estaba preparada y lista en 15 minutos, tuve el pollo Korma y un pan simple, que era increíble, agradable y caliente y lleno de sabor, y la otra mitad tenía especial de arroz y patatas fritas (jajaja), que a su vez estaban calientes y precioso :) no puedo recomendar este lugar, y sin duda volveremos!

We had a really good meal at this restaurant. The food was hot, tasty and plentiful, and the only reason we didn't offer up the full five blobs was because it was a little on the pricey side (relatively speaking.)Service was good, the owner seemed friendly and if we were after a curry in the Ilfracombe area we would certainly consider going back.

We called into The Ilfracombe Tandoori restaurant during August. Service was OK, with seating area while you wait for your food.First issue was establishing the only starter ordered was missing on return to our accommodation several miles away, so with terrible mobile phone service we were unable to report the issue for recourse.Meals were hot and cooked, but acceptable rather than nice. I would not recommend to others even though it was not terrible.

We visited the resturant with friends approx 15 of us, the service was appalling. We were constantly pushed to order our food, despite us mentioning we wanted to feed the kids first when the resturant was empty. The waiter wanted the full order first. The waiter was rude when we asked for breakdown of order and threw the bill at us. The manager Joey thought this was polite way of behaving. Despite asking him kindly he was unwilling to breakdown the bill as is common practice. I believe we were overcharged here.The food lacked taste, it seems they had used the same masala for the meat and veg dishes.We'd been to the resturant last year whilst camping. This year the new owners have let the service and quality slip.

We had an early evening meal here 2 days ago. Great tasty food, generous portions (important for our 2 hungry children!) and very good service - quick and friendly. The surroundings are also light and airy. This was a very nice experience and we would really recommend this restaurant.

We eat a lot of curries and this is our third holiday where we have been here . We took our young children. Poppodoms and dips great and the jalfrezi, madras and kids had Korma which were all great tasting. Would definitely go again when in the area. Naans were lovely but are small so order more !!

Soggy stale poppadoms, soulless flavourless mains. Awful. Just awful. The front page of the menu proudly proclaims that their head chef worked in the centre of London for 15 years. Probably as the cleaner! Avoid at all costs.

We arrived late at the resturant (10:30) they were closing at 11:30 but we're happy to seat & serve us. The food was excellent, very cheap also. Food was fresh & tasty. Not at all oily like Indian can be. I'm very fussy with food but I would recommend this Indian & if I am ever in ilfracombe again I would definetly pay it another visit.

Been here before, the food is ok but this time the service was just rubbish. They literally could not be bothered. We were given a desert menu but no one can't back to take our order, or ask if we wanted more drinks (both of which we would have had!) but instead after absolutely ages waiting we just paid for our mains and left. Sadly disappointed as been here many times before and had great service. But this was a few years ago.

Ordered a takeaway with my partner . Food was really disappointing and plain . Tasted like it had been microwaved . Wouldn't waste your money .

Although it was quiet as it was a Monday we were not disappointed. The food was delicious & not long to wait for it. A lovely chat with the new owner made for a very pleasant meal. The poppadoms were lovely & crisp with the usual selection of dips. My Chicken Tikka Masala was tasty & I tried the mushroom rice,which was a new one for me, and it was lovely too. My partner had chicken dansac which again was lovely. He also had the pishwari naan with kemar rice & cleared his plate! Definitely recommend people to visit if you are in the area.

Visited this Indian with friends we were staying with that have been there before. Joy (apologies if I spelt name wrong) the owner waa excellent, very friendly and so we're his staff. The surroundings are nice with plenty of table space. All four of us had different meals and all thoroughly enjoyed them. When it came to paying we were chatting with Joy at the counter and he gave us some complimentary drinks. Very nice touch. Would definitely go back next time we are back in Ilfracombe.

We spent a very enjoyable evening with friends at this restaurant, now called Tandoori Nights. The food was delicious and plentiful and the owner, Joy, very welcoming. As locals, we are so pleased to have a great Indian restaurant in Ilfracombe serving flavoursome and authentic curry. Joy is working very hard to build the restaurants reputation and we wish him every success. We will be going again soon!

We were visiting Ilfracombe for a couple of days and fancied a curry. We were having a drink first in the George and Dragon in Fore Street (nice friendly pub btw). We were just going to wonder around until we spotted an Indian restaurant but although the pub did do food and had a good menu I decided to be a bit cheeky and asked the girl serving behind the bar if she could recommend a good Indian. Always best to get local recommendations.We were directed to the Ilfracombe Tandoori in the High Street. It was very quite (Monday night out of season) but service and food was great.

We had a delicious curry here so thought worth the review very good food and service, decor was ok (however they did have a song on loop until someone asked for it to be changed) but couldn't fault food!! Top rated curry

Joy from the Tandoori Restaurant had the great idea to put together an authentic Bangladeshi Food Night and what a great success it was. The restaurant was fully booked and the experience was excellent, the staff worked very hard to make it a special night for everyone. The food was very good and plenty of it was supplied. The atmosphere was good too. We enjoyed our evening and hoping Joy will repeat this special evening in the near future. Thank you for a great evening.

My partner and I decided on eating here after reading the reviews which seemed rather positive however, I found the experience mediocre.To open I would like to say that the food wasn't overall bad, it was ok! But after eating each meal I felt uninspired and hoping that the next subsequent meal was going to be better.THE FOODTo start with we ordered 4 poppadoms which was brought out to us almost straight away, the poppadoms were good and the selection of dips is exactly what you would expect no problems here.I ordered a chicken tikka starter which the chicken was a bit on the dry side and the marination was bland in my opinion ( I like to have a bit of a kick on the back of the tongue). Next our main courses came out around 10-15 minutes after the starter, again very reasonable. I had chosen the chicken nilgiri with pilau rice and my partner chose the chicken tikka masala with boiled rice."Disclaimer" I decided to try the nilgiri for the first time so I have nothing to compare this particular meal to so this could be a problem with the dish itself!The nilgiri's flavour was pleasant but lacking, the chicken was again dry. The portion size was good and I felt satisfied afterwards! The pilau rice was very good.The chicken tikka masala suffered identical problems as the the nilgiri, the chicken seemed dry and while the masala had tasted as it should, it just felt bland. Boiled rice had no problems since it really is a flavourless accompaniment to the main.To finish I decided on a chocolate ice cream encased in a darkish chocolate shell with almonds and had a chocolate sauce centre.The dessert was delivered very quick and presentation was fine but very clearly a premade frozen pudding.DRINKSWe don't have alcoholic drinks so we stuck with 2 pints of coke throughout the meal and this is the only point where I would say it's over priced for the quality!We had a clear view of the bar and noticed that they were pouring from the 1.5litres coca-cola bottles that you could buy from your average supermarket. While this is fine, when considering £7.00 for 2 it's too much in my opinion.To end I ordered a regular coffee which was actually surprisingly tasty and would recommend for the price!SERVICE AND SETTINGThe service was definitely great, the staff were not bothersome but attentive so it didn't take more than a couple of minutes for the waiters assistance at any given point.The restaurant was very clean and tidy and didn't feel cluttered with lots of arm room.The only thing that I had noticed that was a bit out of place was what seemed like Indian club music, it just seemed a bit out of place for a restaurant.Overall the prices for everything bar the coca-cola was very reasonable, the service was great and the restaurant was clean. The food needs to be improved in the flavour department in my opinion to make this a 4 star.I think that my rating is fair and reflective of the review...It's not bad, it's not great it's just "ok".

Wasn't expecting much as we used to go there about 3 years ago but after a read of reviews regarding change of management I started to get exited. In summary it was awesome. Real food where the colour is governed by the flavour. Chicken tasted like chicken rather than salty brine. Number saved!

Being away on holiday we were searching for a good Indian takeaway. We were a bit apprehensive about which one to choose but having looked at the reviews in the area we decided to go for this one. So glad we did. This is a fantastic restaurant. Even though we ordered a takeaway the staff were extremely friendly. The food was cooked quickly and smelled delicious. We had a variety of curries, sides and starter. All had great flavour, lovely spices and very tasty! Everything was cooked really well. Even the kids ate all theirs without a single complaint which is unusual as we have been eating Indian food for years always trying out new places wherever we go and they always let us know if it doesn't meet the standard of our favourite local Indian restaurant. We will definitely be going back when we are next in the area just wish it was our local!

We decided to have a indian, we went to this restaurant and what a find, I've tasted Indian food for years but this was the best Indian food we had ever had , joy and the staff were so friendly, the whole place was immaculate and could not be faulted in any way, and reasonably priced.if you like good Indian food 'this place is a must.

Joy was looking after us - utterly fantastic customer service. Went out of his way to make conversation with us, and even have a friendly joke with us. We ordered food, which came swiftly. Very good quality and really tasty. Couldn't fault it. We ordered a lot of food and two drinks, and the bill only came to £33. Such fantastic value for money. Joy finished our night off perfectly by bringing my partner a single malt whiskey (free of charge) and spent a good 5 minutes talking to us. We were treated like royalty by Joy and his team, and I simply could not recommend this restaurant enough - it's a must visit!!! Thank you x

There are some great places to eat in Ilfracombe and I like to shop around but this restaurant wouldn't have been on my radar except for the fact that I had worked late and was hungry and too tired to cook. What a lovely surprise we had, the food was tasty, hot and fresh and we were made extremely welcome. I was somewhat baffled because the last time I looked at this place on TripAdvisor (admittedly last year) the reviews weren't that great but it turns out that the place came under new management about three months ago and it shows! The food was honest, flavoursome and plentiful and I can thoroughly recommend the house red (a merlot, I suspect) - we couldn't actually fault it! Will be going again.

Most restaurants in Ilfracombe close on a Monday so made our way to the High St. and found this restaurant .We were made most welcome by Joy the manager , had a very enjoyable meal at a reasonable price and were surprised when all four of us were given a complimentary drink . Thank you for a pleasant evening . well worth the walk up the hill.

First of all, ignore all of the reviews before the business changed hands. We had a takeaway last night and it was outstanding. The flavours burst through on your tongue, this is so much more than your normal "curry house" Try one of the chefs specials for something different, we did and we weren't disappointed. Clearly Ilfracombe is moving up market, so if you fancy some upmarket Indian food this is the perfect place.

Popped in on a Saturday night for dinner with my partner. Welcomed with the door being opened for us, directed to our seats and asked if we wanted to drinks. Soon as the drinks were brought we were asked if we wanted poppadoms etc. When brought and we had time to look at menu then asked to order. There was a good selection on the menu and unlike some restaurants I've been in there was a good description of the dish. On the back of the menu it explains how the chef was a top chef in London. By the taste of the food and overall quality this was clearly not a lie! You could tell the ingredients were fresh and overall the food and whole experience was lovely. The staff were friendly, sharing laughs with you making you feel very comfortable. They did not rush you at all also, you felt that you could of stayed there for hours and they wouldn't of minded. Towards the end of the high street heading to the harbour it's probably a restaurant that does not get noticed but it's definitely worth visiting. One of the best Indian restaurants I have visited with the price being good also. Lovely!!!!

Just back from a lovely weekend visit to Ilfracombe. We went into Tandoori Nights without a reservation and they squeezed us in, ordered Butter chicken and Veggie Achari and all the trimmings. Superb curry house.

Ilfracombe tandoori has changed hands and is now called Tandoori Nights. We had previously been there prior to the change and it was good but it it is now even better. The food was excellent the staff fantastic and they made you feel really welcome. We had a lovely evening with our friends and left there feeling really good! We will definitely be going back and take other friends with us.

This place has changed its name to Tandoori Nights - it is lovely and clean and the food is very tasty and authentic. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Recommend it as a great Indian in Ilfracombe.

Having been to a few so called excellent Indian restaurants recommended on here, we were wary of the reviews of this particular place but what a surprise!... Great food, great place & great staff... If you love Indian food, you'll adore this place & will definitely return time & time again... Give on, you know you want to!

Best Indian meal we have had in a very long time. Meat was tender, sauce thick and creamy, the heat was as described, and the naan bread was light and fluffy and perfectly cooked. The service was a little slow, but the staff were friendly, attentive but not intrusive and apologetic about the wait. The wait turned out to be worthwhile. Reasonably priced too. Highly recommended for those in no hurry.

Thought we would treat the family to a take away while on holiday and wished we hadn't.The korma sauce was watery, our biryani was spicy hot, but with no real flavour and the accompanying rice was dry and devoid of any interesting ingredients.The okra was burned and saag baaji was dry and tasteless.Won't be bothering with this place again when next down this way.

Ordered take out a few times from here and it was always lovely. We ate in the restaurant a few times also and never had a bad meal. The people were also lovely.

Hat to wait 40 mins for our first drink and the food was awful just awful just could not believe how bad it was such a let down

My partner and I went for a meal on Monday 26th July 2015, waited nearly an hour for the food to arrive. I ordered a Vindaloo and it tasted more like a Balti it was that mild, my partner had a Madras and was milder than a pot noodle. We had a keema Nan that had no meat in it and a garlic Nan that tasted like a plain one. The waiter said that our curries are not that spicy. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU LIKE A SICY CURRY. We wouldn't eat here again, or recommend it to anybody, the food is terrible, more like a Happy Shopper packet CURRY.

We knew that this restaurant has been taken over by new owners and renamed Tandoori Nights. They also have a chef from London who has apparently cooked for MPs so we thought we would try it out. Wow best curry we have had in a very long time. We had Prawn puri to start, my husband had the chicken Naga, which was fairly hot and I had a lamb dish which was amazing (can't remember what it was called!) Both dishes were really tasty and full of flavour, without being over spiced. The service and the presentation were both excellent too. If you want a good Indian meal this is definitely the place to go.

Superb service, vast menu choice, food 1st Class. I really suggest that you pay a visit. May i suggest the Chicken Dhansak, it was delicious !

This place is local to our friends home and was very enjoyable. The service was fast and friendly. They also helped a vegan friend order her meal and made something specifically for her.

Popped in to kill time before we went to the cinema over the road ! We were there about 45 mins before the film started, so were on the starting blocks from the go !To be honest we cannot complain about either the food or the service of this place. We had the normal starter of popadoms and pickles followed by a portion of sag aloo and chicken tikka (no sauce ) and I had a chicken balti with boiled rice plain and simple, would go there again personally I noted what other people have said but can only write what we had, and what we saw inside. We then walked over the road and saw our film, so a good night all told !

As the title suggests, this was an impulse visit whilst on holiday.Our take-away order was taken, placed and we had 20mins to have a quick stroll around the town.The food was tasty, plentiful and if we are in Ilfracombe again in the future, I wouldn't hesitate ordering another impulse take-away from here.

we have been to this restaurant several times in the past 12 months and have never been disappointed. Food is always tasty and flavorful and a good variety to choose from, service is friendly. The restaurant has a nice decor and layout We will definitely dine there again and would recommend this restaurant in Ilfracombe

Went for a family meal this evening and was appalled. I was dishing rice onto my plate only to find a black hair on the tray the rice was served on. Obviously I complained and didn't even get an apology just "oh". Then they bought me out another one served on the same tray with the hair on !!!!! Charming, I think this place needs a food and hygiene inspection and quick

Although we knew we shouldn't, we ordered 3 dishes as we were curious about some of the dishes. The Special Himalay masala came as a huge portion (enough for two) but was delicious. The Baghda Chirgri Methi was tasty, although the taste of the fenugreek leaves might not be to the liking of everyone and, on reflection, the Shabji Korma Nutty was probably overpowered a little by the masala, which was actually quite fiery. However, it was also a very good dish. Service was very attentive (but not obtrusive at all) and very helpful.

On there website they advertise a buffet on Sundays so myself and husband went along to be highly disappointed to find out they don't do it, no explanation to why. Had a meal which was nice, not as good as our local back at home. Did feel like waiter was watching our every move, and kept hovering around us. Would not really recommend for eating in, but maybe a takeaway as food was good.

Visited while on a short break with friends. Tried a dish I have never seen before. The Special Himalay Masala. Gorgeous. I eat a lot of Indian food here and in India and I loved this dish. The very nice man who served us is very helpful and it was a pleasure to eat here. Not fast food but that is not what food is about. Will be back.

Being from out of town we looked at the menu for this restaurant and thought it was quite extensive and glossy and probably a good place to get a takeaway from. Our order of 3 standard currys, 2 rice, 2 naan breads, 1 side order, 6 popadums and chutneys came to over £37 and we collected it. Very disappointing for the price. Sauces were of a strange consistency and the chicken tikka masala looked and tasted like no other, infact I don't think it was chicken tikka in it just regular chicken in a sauce that seemed to be a korma with tomato sauce in it - pretty awful. The one highlight was their lime pickle which was delicious and freshly made. Locals have since advised us that this place has a reputation for all their sauces tasting the same just with a bit of tis or that added. So seems they need to make some changes.

Went here with my boyfriend tonight to be confronted with terrible service, not only did they get our drinks order wrong they got our poppadom and rice order wrong as well. Curry's were greasy and the keema Nan had barely any meat in it. Very disappointed wouldn't eat here again. Also ignored when asking for the check

Had a takeaway tonight food was delicious no complaints here. Love a good curry and would recommend this place. Staff are polite and nothing is too much trouble

my husband and I decided at the last minute to eat out on Friday evening,we arrived at the tandoori at 9pm to be the only diners.The service was very attentive and the food excellent, it is unusual to get steaming hot food in any restaurant, but both our meals arrived piping! and proved to be very tasty.Well recommended
