Il Bordello in Tower Hamlets

We were back in the area for a couple of weeks catching up with friends. Top of the list was this fabulous restaurant. Finished up eating there three times with different friends. The food, the experience and Hulus and the team were all off the scale. We can't recommend this place enough. Tonya and Tony Crew

Nous étions y allé déjà l’année dernière. comme on avait pas été déçu, la première fois nous y sommes retournés. Nous nous sommes régalés, les serveurs très sympathique et agréable avec toujours le sourire, les entrées et les plats copieux, je recommande aux Français qui vont à Londres dans les dans ce restaurant, vous ne serez pas déçu

We have been going to Il Bordellos for over 23 years now and it never ever disappoints. My husband took me there on our very first date. Staff are so welcoming and friendly and can't do enough for you. Prices are really good and the food is outstanding ! We have never had a bad meal to complain about. Restaurant is so cosy and rustic. We live in Enfield so not local, but will continue going for every birthday, anniversary, weekdays when we are off from work and meetings with family and friends. Introduced many to this lovely family restaurant and can't say enough about it. In fact, I am too worried about saying too much just in case we can't get a table in the future ! So sad , I have been going to Bordello from the very first day it opened when the A-team Jamal and Carmello was running the things , today was so sad and for me me last visit. 2 waiters on the floor in a full restaurant was just a recipe for disaster , they just couldn’t cope ! We sat with empty drink glasses and repeatedly had to ask for new drinks and just didn’t happen. The pizza and pasta was so basic and all the love the plates used to have is gone. Thank you for all the good times however such a shame that my last memory is going to be so negative

Fantastic meal with the family. Ordered Caprese, Cornetti di Salmone and two fried mozerella starters. Mains we ordered ravioli with mushrooms, spaghetti pomodoro, calzone and veal alla Romana. Everything cooked to perfection. Two Pina Coladas and a bottle of Salice Salentino for beverages. Thoroughly enjoyable meal.

This long established Italian family owned restaurant at Wapping Wall in London is a gem ! We ate there on a Saturday evening at 7.30 p.m. and it was buzzing.... No problem. Waiter service was immaculate. Communication between serving staff was exceptional. Food was outstanding. 1 starters of garlic mushrooms [to share]. I main course of what can only be described as the largest swordfish I have ever seen on a plate I main course of Saltemboca a la Romana consisting of 3 veal fillets. Plus sides of vegetables and tasty potatoes plus water plus a decent bottle of Barbera came to £116 for 2 persons. This restaurant is quality and quantity.

We went to celebrate Father’s Day, and there was no better place to do so. Great food, warm and friendly atmosphere , and exceptional service, a real home from home. Starters, garlic pizza bread, crab and mango, and Ravioli Aurora. Perfect. Followed by Carbonara, and finally Tiramisu. None of which could be faulted. Ample portions with doggy bag provided - not that I would be sharing with pooch. A real taste of Italy’s food and hospitality.

We had amazing food here! We were in London for 2 weeks and had their food 3 times. The seafood risotto and garlic chicken were delicious (very generous serves) and the tiramisu was amazing! The service was pretty great too… Highly recommended

I had an extremely bizarre experience at Il Bordello this weekend. I wanted some extra parmesan cheese with my pasta dish and the waiter was being difficult about it - which was already irritating. My friend jokingly mentioned that I was pregnant, so I was eating for two etc. Immediately the waiter refused to serve me any cheese, saying that "its health and safety rules in this restaurant not to serve pregnant people any cheese, dairy or eggs". This is an Italian restaurant for gods sake; nearly everything on the menu has cheese, eggs or dairy. I clearly stated that I was happy to take my own risk with the parmesan cheese. The waiter still refused and my friend had to ask for cheese on the side for herself, in order to give it to me. Note that this was my main course and I ordered a Caprese salad for my starter without issue or a lecture. Nowhere on their menu states any of their dishes are unsuitable for pregnant people. Of course when it came to ordering dessert, with the majority of their choices contains dairy, cream or eggs, the waiter again said it was policy of the restaurant not to serve eggs, dairy or cream to pregnant people etc, and that by law he needed to tell us before we ordered. I have been eating out at restaurants my entire pregnancy and have never encountered a situation like this. I was made to feel incredibly uncomfortable. awkward and embarrassed. In addition, food choice is completely up to the pregnant person and it's not a restaurant's job to make medical decisions for a customer. The waiter was also completely incorrect as the NHS even advises that 'pasteurised or unpasteurised hard cheeses, such as cheddar, gruyere and parmesan' are SAFE in pregnancy. The whole experience was unpleasant, misinformed and factually incorrect. The food was fine - above average, 4/5 - but totally let down by its service. I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will not be returning.

Excellent food, great friendly service generally a wonderful place to eat. I had the skate and it was the best skate I have ever had, really meaty and extremely tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would recommend.

Was worried about the service based on other reviews but it was good. The young girl could be more friendly & smile but she wasn’t rude. The food was good & we had a nice evening but the noise was too much! Because it’s a very open area and was busy, you couldn’t have a conversation across the table as you couldn’t hear properly. I think they need curtains or material to soften the noise. We where there with family and wanted to talk but this wasn’t easy

I’ve visited on many occasions for many years, in their old location and now the new one. The food has alway been consistently good, with a lively and friendly atmosphere. However, my most recent experience, for a family member’s landmark birthday celebration, was somewhat spoilt by the misfortune of being served by the most miserable, rudest waitress ever. It was like being served by a stone faced robot who was doing us a big favour.. There was a hefty “service charge” on the bill which I paid, but wasn’t deserved, and i expressed my dissatisfaction to the front desk staff upon leaving. I will miss Bordello but won’t be returning

This restaurant has been on our to do list for quite awhile. Finally go there for lunch. The service was good and attentive without being in your face. Did not feel rush even though they had a table of 60 in. The food was excellent. If you order the Bruschetta San Daniele as a starter you might want to think about sharing as I found very filling. The price was about on par with our local restaurant. Will definitely return

Our friends had visited a number of times and always said they enjoyed it, and we did this time as well. The food is good, the portions are a good size and the service friendly and professional. We went on a so day and were not rushed. The wine was very rices about right and we came out full and satisfied. We will return.

If you like your waiting staff to view you as an inconvenience, then this is the place for you. The food was only moderate, but the shocking thing about this restaurant is the waiting staff. They are sullen, unhelpful and arrogant. Everything seems like it's too much trouble for them, and you are lucky to be in their restaurant. The 10% service charge is way over the top for the 'service' given, but then when you're lucky to have chosen them over some of the other restaurants nearby you should be grateful they opened the doors to you at all. A tip has to be earned in my opinion and when we didn't tip the full 10% they couldn't hide their anger and were dismissive and rude. I'd be surprised if they get any tips at this establishment.

As always a great night, food and service excellent. Warm welcome when we arrived and table ready for us to be seated. We was given enough time to look at menus before ordering and not rushed. Food promptly served and every course and meal top notch. I bought a birthday cake to celebrate, they were so good, sang happy birthday and allowed us to eat the cake at no extra charge, which is rare these days.

Highly recommended. Tip #1: Book a table to avoid disappointment. Tip #2: Order something from the specials board(s). Not cheap, but very good value due to the excellent food quality and generous portion sizes. I can recommend the sea bass - I wish I could cook it anywhere near that well.

What a little gem. Stumbled across this restaurant on the way to the Prospect, and very glad we did. The smell was absolutely tremendous as we opened the door, and even having not booked and the restaurant busy, they were really accommodating and the staff were lovely. Food was great, and the restaurant felt like a little piece of Italy! Highly recommend

Quaint family owned restaurant based in Wapping, serving authentic Italian food. I went with two other friends who have been here many times before, this being my first visit. I had heard very good things about the food here so was excited to finally try. For starters we ordered the garlic bread and mussels, the portions were perfect for sharing. For mains I went for the salmon pasta which was seasoned beautifully and cooked well. I also tried some of the mushroom ravioli which was just as good being a vegetarian dish. There was a good ambience with a mix of different people. This place is suitable for dates, catch up with friends and celebrating birthdays accommodating small and larger groups. The service could be a little slow at times, however it was very busy and we didn’t mind too much as it gave time for us to socialise over bottles of wine. I would highly recommend trying here and I will definitely be returning. One of my friends is gluten intolerant and the menu was accommodating, having different options for and gluten free pasta. It is great value for money and you will leave full after eating here!

Second visit to London this year. Second visit here. Friendly, welcoming service. Excellent fish (cod, seabass) and beef fillet. Very generous portions of high quality, tasty food. Worth travelling out to Wapping for. Highly recommend.

Disappointing, had heard great things about the restaurant, but was so disappointed. We arrived on time for our booking, Saturday evening, place was not busy. The elder man, I assume the manager, did not even say hello, I told him our name he walked to a table and pointed at it, not one word spoken! Waiters never smiled, not helpful at all, the table was too small for 4 adults, food was average at best although the portions are huge, too much for me.Will not return, I can't understand why people choose to work in the service industry but don't want to smile or greet their customers.

I used to live in Wapping 25 years ago and frequently went to this restaurant. Today my son and I went although had forgot to book and as per 25 years ago they couldn’t do enough for us. We were squeezed in although fully booked, lovely wine, great food. Thank you, still my favourite Italian!

We didn’t book but turned up to a half empty restaurant and appeared to inconvenience the front of house by asking for a table of two. After 30 seconds he eventually decided to accommodate us. We had three waiters, the first of which tutted when we didn’t order wine and sulked off. The other two were slightly more polite. Food came quickly and was nothing amazing but had more personality than the majority of the staff. The atmosphere was slightly odd so we left but were disappointed to see the manager berating a deliveroo rider for no apparent reason, he was extremely rude and it didn’t look good. Won’t be returning but good for a quick, local Italian.

Invited by my boss to this place as he loves it...I've been in many London restaurants before that. I felt that the menu looks Italian and the atmosphere is a buzzy place but it lacks authenticity. Maybe the menu reads as it is a true Italian, but it is certainly for the "grab an Italian in the neighbourhood and I don't care" crowd. The highlight was when the waiter brought a spoon for my desert, almost like out of his pocket tapping on his palm before putting onto the table. Crowded seating. They had to move our table to the side to accommodate the diners to slide in by moving and lifting our table in front of us, loaded with the food, to let neighbour guest to slide into their seats.... La comida siempre es excelente y además fue maravilloso visitarla, a pesar de la extraña situación de COVID en la que todos nos encontramos actualmente, y ver las caras familiares del antiguo personal. Me complace ver que el restaurante sigue prosperando incluso con las regulaciones muy desafiantes pero comprensibles que existen actualmente. Las mesas están más espaciadas, todo el personal usa máscaras / viseras y el personal atento nos pidió dos veces que escaneemos el código QR de "seguimiento y rastreo" cuando llegamos. Todos los clientes presentes fueron excelentes en ponerse máscaras al moverse por el restaurante. No creo que sea justo después de leer otras reseñas dar una evaluación deficiente basada en el comportamiento de clientes sin escrúpulos a quienes el personal solo puede solicitar que cumplan con las reglas, pero no pueden obligarlas a hacerlo por su propia seguridad. Nos sentimos muy seguros durante nuestra visita, fue maravilloso como siempre y no tengo absolutamente ninguna preocupación por visitar de nuevo y apoyar este negocio fantástico, especialmente durante estos tiempos sin precedentes.
