One of the best Japanese sushi places that I go in London, their sushi was good and authentic, with good value of price, saw many Japanese people, I guess they also approve this place is a good place for sushi in London.

The most authentic Japanese restaurant in London that my family loves! As Hong Konger in London, we have high expectations on Japanese food but it always let us down here in London. It’s definitely not a cheap restaurant but it worths every penny u spend. Attentive staff, good ambience, fresh sashimi and nice food. We all give a thumbs up, including my picky teenage children. Will surely recommend it and revisit. Our teenagers ate a lot yesterday and that why the bill was a bit pricy.

Ikeda serves traditional Japanese fare that is of a very high standard, one that you might well expect given the location and of course the price, in terms of the freshness of the food, the quality of the presentation and preparation and of course the service. Gindara cod is my wife's favourite Japanese menu item so she found it very easy to choose the black cod set for lunch, which is when we visited Ikeda. For me I was torn between the mackerel, the tempura and the sushi - yes all three sounded great. In the end I chose tempura although I was equally envious of the sushi set that I spied another diner having ordered. Nevertheless, the tempura was perfectly prepared in an extremely light batter and the prawns were beautiful. Perhaps the vegetables lacked a little flavour - it could be that the chef sliced them too thin. My wife's cod was absolutely perfect. The quality of the rice that accompanied our sets was superb too as was the miso soup although the amuse bouche was a little underwhelming. The salads were excellent too. There isn't much reason for me NOT to give the food five stars except that the prices quoted on the menu outside the restaurant were lower than the actual prices on the menu card inside the restaurant. That's not really a nice experience. The service from the waitresses could not be faulted but there were a lot of them and they were always very obvious/visible - I would have preferred if they were not so obvious. But these are minor quibbles as I shall certainly be visiting again.

This is a store that I highly recommend. I visited him about 30 years ago. My predecessor was my father's junior at Happoen in Tokyo. I visited him when I went to see if I could study abroad in London. The person who visited Mr. Ikeda on the street happened to be my predecessor. I don't have any photos from that time, but We had a delicious meal. My father passed away, but so did my predecessor. I have now arrived at the time when your son has taken over. My child's friends For performance performance of Spirited Away I arrived in London from Tokyo. Ikeda-san is a restaurant that I would like to recommend. I was able to guide you. I would also like to visit you again someday. Thank you for your cooperation.

Excellent food, highly disappointing service. While the food was great, the service was not up to scratch for a restaurant charging these prices. Some examples: when I entered the restaurant and said I had a reservation, the staff didn’t ask my name, assumed I was coming to join someone else, and tried to seat me next to a stranger. When I clarified that it was a booking for 3, the waitress was flustered and left me standing in the middle of the restaurant while she finally went to check the list of bookings. Once seated and waiting for my companions, I wasn’t offered any water or asked if I wanted anything to drink. Once we had ordered drinks and water (and food), the starters were served before the water. Glasses/dishes were placed on the table with very little attention to detail and placing. Throughout, the service remained disappointing, e.g., my companions’ empty dishes were removed from the table while mine weren’t, etc. One of the dishes was served with a smear of wasabi on the rim - in a dish that didn’t include wasabi. At the time of writing, the dishes on the menu were significantly more expensive than the out-of-date menu on the website. There were various other shortcomings in the service that I have no inclination to spend time listing. As mentioned above, the quality of the food was excellent. Some of the best sushi I’ve had in London. The agedashi tofu was fantastic, as were the miso soup and the pickles. However, at over £100 a head for dinner, the service left much to be desired. I would not go back again.

Food was great in an old-fasioned way ( that's not an insult); service was pleasant -- but deeply dishonest. I was charged for items I did not order or receive. I did not make a fuss at the time as the meal was a birthday present, but I shan't be going again. A pity as otherwise we'd be regulars. Apparently charging for items not received or ordered is common. We heard a complaint at the next table but - foolishly - chose to ignore it. Do go for the food - but be VERY careful about the bill.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Ikeda - my birthday treat from my husband until he noticed after we returned home that an extra item had been added to the bill which we didn't order. I might just think this was a mistake but other reviewers have reported the same experience. After so many good tastes in my mouth this has left a final very bad taste in my mouth. This act tarnishes an otherwise high quality dining experience.

Lovely authentic Japanese food served by lovely efficient waitresses, in a VERY intimate venue. All good, except even though it's in a most expensive location, I'm sure they charge around four times more than the miniscule portions should be, and to be honest, nice though the food was, it's nothing outstanding, that virtually anyone couldn't recreate at home, especially for the prices charged. Still, we live and learn.

SUBLIME Japanese food, delicate, tasty, the best I've had in London. Ikeda has been in business since 1978 and isn't trying to be innovative; but what it does it does well. Very fresh sushi, superb grilled eel, a large offering of saké, each at the required temperature; and first-rate genmacha. All very classic and satisfying. The atmosphere is very much like Tokyo: small, understated, a counter and tables in an enfilade of rooms, superb service. The prices are high, but worth it: if you are watching the pennies, pass on the desserts and on the good but overpriced French wine.

Exquisite. That's the only word I can use to describe Ikeda. Since our first visit in October 2021, this has become my favourite Japanese restaurant in London. From the family and very Japanese feel, waitresses in kimonos and don't speak too fast so they understand you, to the quaintness of the restaurant (seats about 20) in a fantastic location on Brook Street walkable from Bond Street and Oxford Circuit tube, to the freshest fish I have tasted outside of Billingsgate Market. The Kobe beef steak was sublime and literally melted in the mouth. We couldn't wait to get stuck in this second visit so I only have a picture of the Kobe but will add more pictures as we visit again. Seriously, do you yourself a favour and visit Ikeda. There is only one Japanese restaurant that has the chances of beating this one in London, review to come as soon as I can get a table there.

I went four times with different friends and we were very enjoyed everything about Ikeda. There have fresh Japanese food, the service of the girls staff was very nice. I posted more pictures and more than once on my social media about Ikeda. It was a really nice restaurant. But today I am very upset and disappointed. Today, My friend didn't have an allergy before we made the reservation. Suddenly, he had an allergy before we comes. We still didn't cancel the reservation, because my friend and I both like Ikeda food very much. When we entered the restaurant, the girl staff saw that my friend had tears and then she offered us a box of tissues. After a while, a man who looked like the manager asked fiercely: finished? Immediately took the tissue away. I tried to explain that he wasn't listening and left immediately. So I had to talk to another girl staff, and my friend really needed tissues because we didn't want to get tears and snot all over the flax napkin. She was very understanding, and she brought us box paper tissues for the second time. After a while, the male manager came back and said the box paper tissue were for all the guests, not on our table. I told him we didn't pick it for ourselves, it’s your girl staff gave it to me because my friend had allergies. Without answering me, the manager left immediately. He didn’t listen to me again. Before I left, I tried to communicate with the manager again, I told him: can i give you some feedback please? I am very satisfied with the food, I have been here four times. The food in this restaurant is so delicious and fresh. Every chefs is an absolutely brilliant cook. The staff girls smile very bright, very considerate service for us. But may i know are you very unhappy about we use a little the box paper tissue? I don't understand why you didn't ask me any reason and treated us badly three times? He told me he didn't know why we needed tissues. I said maybe you should have talked to your staff before you took it, or maybe you should have prepared one more box paper tissues to put in a public area, rather than leaving without figuring things out and not listening to me. I didn't even finish my sentence. The manager just said: OK, fine, sorry. And then he left immediately again. I would like to ask why the male manager is so rude for us again and again? Everything was extremely amazing in the ikeda but the manager's behavior was not worthy of his position. All the girls staff were very nice, and the manager was the downfall of the restaurant. Ikeda follows the spirit of craftsmanship. Looking for preciseness and perfection, devoting yourself to work, strong patience, endurance, loneliness…all these qualities come from the 'craftsman spirit'. I still appreciate the craftsmanship of Ikeda, I admire the chefs and I love the staff, but I won't come back because of the male manager. What he lacks is a basic respect for people.

Sat at the bar and watched the chefs preparing dishes in front of us. Highly recommend the Assorted Sashimi which is of high quality and can taste the freshness. Also, The Unaju (barbequed eel on rice) sauce was freshly cooked which blends the soft eel and chewy rice very well. I was in shock that Ikeda didn’t even bother to contact me to let me know they weren’t gonna open on the day I could have planed something else instead. It was so frustrating as I had to look for somewhere else last minute when most places were fully booked! I have emailed them for an explanation didn’t get a reply and I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to treat like this. Until now I still have not had a single reply from them! I didn't really like the idea looking at the chef slicing raw chicken or frying tempura at such a close distance 😅 anyway, I had the sashimi platter with 8different fishes, soba and tempura. The freshness and flavour of all fishes and sea food was the highlight of the experience. I’ve ordered only two dishes: pork belly as a starter (great choice, tasted divine) and sashimi as my main. The restaurant is small but doesn’t feel particularly intimate, the decor could be improved. Lovely waitresses, extremely polite and attentive. I took one star as I should have received a 20% discount as I had booked my dinner online for 17:30 last Thursday and this was conveniently “forgotten” by the staff. A good place to recall memories travelling to Japan. Began with a warm welcome, service quality could be better by offering a hot towel to each guest. Medium fatty tuna was up to standard. The fat was distributed beautifully. Sushi rice could be improved by adding a bit more sushi vinegar replicating the authentic Japanese style. A La Carte Sashimi could be ordered by the piece was an excellent gesture! Gindara ( black cod ) was nicely cooked. A little bit oily feeling at the end. Tempura was average. The flour surrounding the Tempura could be a lot thinner. Ice creams were mixed with vanilla flavour regardless of Red Bean/Green Tea flavour. This should be mentioned in the menu.

Simple, but ‘top notch’, that easily exceeds the already high expectation of a Mayfair restaurant - it is the best Japanese in town. This is my favourite restaurant in London. It's absolutely brilliant and I go there whenever I can afford it. It is certainly not cheap but it is worth every penny. Every dish is consistently excellent every time. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs either their heads or taste buds examining. Nothing fancy here (not even the decor) unlike Umu or the Araki, just perfectly prepared classical Japanese cuisine. This is all down to the owner, who works unbelievably hard for the benefit of all his customers and the wider world through the positive vibrations he is sending out through his devotional attitude of service. He takes the bookings, serves at the tables, keeps an eye on the kitchen, every lunch, every dinner, every day. If you like Japanese food and really care about quality, this is a palace worthy of a pilgrimage. Perfection on a plate.

High end cuisine, fairly priced, actually lower than I would have expected. I came here with my friend who has visited it so often that she has already tried everything on the menu and she ordered everything. Apple sake is rather special comparing to all the plum sake jn Japanese cuisine restaurants, it is sweeter but in a refreshing way, and doesn’t have the sour alcohol taste as in the plum sake. Highly recommended Everything is quite high standard. Really enjoy Kobe beef. Would be better if the menu has more dessert other than ice cream and mochi ice-cream. At the end of the meal we asked for a bill and were very surprised to see the total - £230 for two people who had a rather light lunch. After we inspected the bill it turned out there were at least 2 items there that we did not order. The waitress mumbled something and took these items off the bill. We did not even have to tell her which ones - she seemed to know herself. She did not even bother to apologise properly. In the end the correct bill was HALF the sum. I believe they deliberately try to screw customers hoping the bill will not be checked. Beware!

My guest and I had a Japanese experience in terms of food and service. Simple, raw and nice. We enjoyed it, the food was delicious. We will recommend it and would like to go back.

Great staff, friendly service. Wanted a bottle of sake but was not sure of the flavour between the two and waitress offered two samples to help decide. Hamachi cheek could have done with a tad more seasoning. All in all would come back again!

We were back last week for dinner and loved it. Each dish was beautifully executed. Definitely our most favourite Japanese restaurant in London.

A pleasant surprise...I have generally low expectations of Japanese places in Mayfair with all the hype and sometimes overpriced bling, but this was actually excellent cooking from the counter...much more than sushi the menu is more izakaya style with a nice wide range and an excellent sake list. Will be back

My favourite Japanese restaurant in London. Food is amazing, service is spectacular. I love it so much and always come here for special occasions. Expensive but worth it. Also their Yuzu-shu is lovely!

I have an absolute love for Japanese food and having lived in UK for 13 years, I chose Ikeda for my send away dinner. Ikeda is a hidden gem and I absolutely love it! The restaurant is very cosy with japanese features, the atmosphere is lively and yet comforting and the staff are just incredible. They are very attentive and are quick to notice if you need help. The food is always top notch and having visited many times, I 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for a great, Japanese restaurant when visiting London, whether as couple, friend get together or simply when treating yourself!

Having lived in London for the past 12 years, I think I've finally come to the point of being able to state that Ikeda is overall the best restaurant the city has to offer. And, London being London, I do not say this lightly. The quality and, perhaps even more importantly, the consistency of their food is second to none.

I used to love the atmosphere and food at Kurobuta but both were missing when I visited on Thursday. The service was terrible; dirty glasses brought to the table, asked to circle our own items on the menu because waitress had no idea what was being served, wrong dishes sent to us and items we didn’t receive still placed on the bill. The food has also massively gone down hill. Avoid crispy squid, it has absolutely no “crisp”, and the wagyu sliders Kurobuta is known for, were average at best.Staff unfortunately out of their depth and unprofessional which makes the 12.5% service charge unjustifiable.

I am a fan of sushi rolls and this place did not disappoint. Great option if you are looking for a quick lunch.
