Happy to pay tips, but i would rather this being my choice and not included in the bill as a total, paid in the till of the main shop. Tips should be paid directly to waitessing staff. Not to the owner of the cafe

I love This place, it is my favorite place for having breakfast, I love Flamenco eggs and if you go enjoy the butter, it is delicious. The girls that work there are really helpful I went with a friend who was craving for something that wasn't in the menu but the make her something special. Lovely place, lovely service and lovely food

Went here for lunch the other day, and the food was absolutely lovely, without a doubt. However, the bad service ruined it for me. The waiting staff were very inattentive and seemed completely disinterested in the customers. The fact that they have to cook all the food as well as serving probably has something to do with this. It's a shame because the food is great but the lack of good service tarnishes it.

Food glorious food!..... La la la la la... Absolutely incredible. Lovely little place with beautiful food and and coffee. I had turbot fishcakes which came with loads of fresh salad and an addition of poached egg - have demolished the plate, loooovely. Have not had a desert yet, will need to come back..... Please do come

Confession: we had no intention of going to i gigi whatsoever before we entered - but am I glad that those intentions changed?! (Yes). You see, we'd initially tried to go somewhere else nearby - naming no names - but on inspection of the menu it became apparent we had to go elsewhere. We were just trying to go out for a quick non-special weekday lunch, but we were really hungry, and we needed to go somewhere - and fast.

Had the special, avocado, bacon, poached egg and grilled cherry toms on artisanal toast. I know these things are subjective but for me it was all perfect, bacon was crispy but not dry, egg was runny, and the toms were warm and soft but not scalding like they can be in some places. Throughly recommend the food and the staff were lovely too

We found this gem of a cafe a few weeks ago and have made 3 repeat journeys since (from London) to try a different brunch each time. The cafe is not overly large, but grab one of the tables by the huge floor to ceiling windows overlooking Western Road and watch the world go by. My recommendation is the Best Welsh Rarebit (Welsh Rarebit seems to be having a revival at the moment and this one is hard to beat) and the Huevos Flamenco is my husband's fave. Unfortunately, we never leave room to try the cakes and scones, but they look fantastic! The general store downstairs is gorgeous for something different; they have some lovely candles which would look fab on the Christmas table...

This cafe is above a beautifully presented shop selling soaps, textiles etc. The presentation of the cafe is also very attractive with lovely wooden tables and chairs and and a view over the street. We had a delicious broccoli and blue cheese soup and avocado and poached egg on toast. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. The main criticism was there was quite a wait: it was busy at lunch time and there seemed to be only one person working so it looked like they need more staff.

Being fed up with Costa or Nero, my girlfriend decided to have a coffee there. We only wanted to order a coffee, but we were offered ( by such a lovely member of staff) to try one of your cakes. They are simply the best! The one who bakes them is a master baker. Worth for the price. Do not hesitate and visit igigi, you will love it.

I'm not sure whether this qualifies as a "hidden gem", since it's not technically a secret and there are a few signs from the street. However, it's worth discovering, for the Saturday brunch menu alone. There are only a few tables in this restaurant, upstairs from a general store (which is more of a boutique than a general store, really) so you may be asked to share your table with other diners. However, it's worth it; the food is fresh, tasty and really well presented, as well as being decent portions for the price. The Welsh Rarebit was our top favourite, and we loved the quirky decor and setting. Will definitely return.

A general store downstairs, a small cafe upstairs, this is a treasure. Only five or six tables, with the food prepared down one side, cakes displayed down the other side, so feels very intimate. I had Zoe's favourite, which consists of delicious Welsh rarebit served on a cheese scone, with thick-cut Sussex ham and a tasty salad that includes seeds and half a pear. Best Welsh rarebit ever? Must be close. My wife had Bubble and Squeak topped with crispy bacon bits.

This cute and quite tiny cafe with a fab breakfast menu, great cakes and coffee does it well and does it right. The presentation, friendliness of the staff, atmosphere and of course food are all what hove cries out for in a cafe. Only a few table settings means sometimes there's a wait or sharing a table, but it's worth the wait. Not had lunch there but it looks delicious and it's byo if you wanted to go later on in the day. A must try x

I love this little cafe. It's just across the road from a very bad one and the two shouldn't even be compared. The service is friendly and efficient. The food fresh and good quality. I wish they had a bit more varied menu but it's a seasonal rotating menu which is refreshing. It's lovely and bright on a sunny day and the tea and cakes are lovely. The dining room is small but worth the wait. A must try for brunch.

We enjoy going out at the beginning of the day for food as much as others enjoy going out in the evenings. We tried here from a recommendation in the Independant Coffee Shops in Brighton and Hove book which we have used on a number of occasions with good experiences. As expected the coffee was good, but we were enticed to have a late (second) breakfast as well. It ended up doubling as Lunch as well given the portion sizes. The Rarebit was absolutely fantastic, highly recommended, as was the other food enjoyed by our family. Relaxed, small but still had a good atmosphere. We liked the 'kitchen' area which had no counter between the dining and cooking. It felt like an extension to the dining area, not the other way round. Perhaps a little pricey but we thought it was worth it.

What a little gem! Igigi occupies quite a niche market, offering simple and tasty organic food with no frills and represents great value. Welsh Rarebit, Bubble & Squeak and the like are all on the menu and not a chip in sight. And when you have satisfied yourself with a healthy first course, you can indulge in one of the home-made cakes which are delicious. Staff are attentive and difficult to fault, although because all the food is prepared fresh and therefore from scratch, it can take a little more time to come so patience is needed. Allow an hour and a half for lunch and you'll be fine. Recommend it for good and healthy food, nice atmosphere and value for money. Imaginative and feels like it is trying to hold onto some simple and old-fashioned values; long may that continue.

Lovely cakes under domes on one side of the room (not sampled) and espresso machine and 'kitchen' situated ine the opposite side of the room. Has a very country kitchen chi-chi feel.

I've eaten here a few times. Tried the welsh rarebit- that might sound a bit ordinary but it's a test of standards- if they can do that really well other food will be good. It had to be the best I have ever had, plus a great fresh green salad and grilled baby tomatoes. Next time I tried grilled figs, with goat's cheese and serrano ham. It sounded a bit expensive at 7.50 but it was well worth the money and a very large portion- four deliciously ripe figs, lightly grilled goat's cheese and plenty of serrano ham, Honestly my mouth is watering as I write this. Yummy. Service is good and you are sitting right by the food prep and cooking area so you can see what's going on. . Because of this It's not the quietest of places , coffee machine etc but they use really good ingredients and they know how to cook and how to present food.
