I have been to Hyssop while it was on High Street West, and then under its new name and premises, Hyssop and the Hare on High Street East. We had the chef's choice menu on an early Friday evening. The food is outrageously well priced given the quality. The pork belly and cabbage in particular was some of the best food I've ever tasted. One of my party commented that it was better than the pork belly at the Hand and Flowers. I can well believe it. The focaccia was unparalleled. Dessert was a pleasingly large slab of deliciously balanced sticky toffee pudding. I prefer the cosy environment and atmosphere that is the new venue, to feel so relaxed while enjoying such high quality food makes for a wonderful experience. The vibes are immaculate. The house red is excellent and we enjoyed a round of superb martinis. The service is warm and friendly, Mia is a delight and really enhances your experience. The waiting staff were knowledgeable about the food and could readily answer questions about the dishes. There is a £20 pp deposit, which is unavoidable and understandable these days, as is the apparently strict enforcement. I am so glad that after the devastating fire Glossop gets to continue to enjoy such an extraordinary offering. I look forward to trying the Cosy Thursdays menu.

I called this morning having been discharged from hospital last night following a choking event which required the heimlich manoeuvre. As you can guess eating and drinking is very difficult right now and given this I called to ask could we please move the booing by a week. I was told that I am within 48 hours of the reservation, so no I can’t and I will lose my deposit. I have my discharge notes to prove I am not making the event up. There was absolute no empathy given or shown by the owner, just a curt “it’s policy”. If you want to book again you’ll have to repay the deposit. You’d think a restaurant of all places would understand that after such a situation a customer would be nervous of eating out. Instead I was given the line “times are tough”. So with that in mind they will be keeping my deposit and needless to say I won’t be going to hyssop ever again. Absolutely terrible way to treat people.

Belated review from two weeks ago, but loved it here. Bridges that gap between decent pub food and fine dining - closer to the latter in quality of ingredients and thinking the dishes through, albeit in a 'local bistro' atmosphere. If I was steering people, I'd certainly think of it as good value fine dining rather than 'expensive' pub food. We both had the five course tasting menu, and one of us had the accompanying wine pairing, which all looked like a bargain on paper, and proved to be in practice. All of the food courses were relatively simply put together, and not large helpings, but everything was well sourced in terms of quality, and in perfect balance, and we certainly didn't feel hungry when we left. We struggled to think of where we could improve any of the dishes without adding to the cost. The service was perfectly pleasant throughout - at least as good as you'd hope for at this 'price point'. We've paid three times the price at more renowned establishments, and not eaten half as well, and very likely we'll make the trip again, even though one of us has to drive.

Ordered a no contact pickup from Hyssop, after moving to Glossop recently and hearing great things about it, and I was not disappointed.Even on the reduced menu there was good options for a vegetarian, ordered sriracha and crispy onion loaded fries, vegetable tempura with sweet chilli sauce, and chocolate ice cream mochi; total cost £17.The portion sizes were generous, and on top of that they even added a veggie sushi platter for me for free so so kind and unexpected, and shows that they clearly noticed I’d made a veggie order. The food was piping hot, tastes lovely, and was packaged well for takeaway.I’ve been so impressed by this first visit so I’ll definitely be ordering again, and can’t wait to eat in once things are back to normal again Thanks Hyssop team!

Hyssop Is a little gem of a restaurant hidden away in plain sight in the middle of sleepy old GlossopI went there before lockdown took place and would recommend it to any one who likes good food served by very pleasant staff in a very congenial setting. The menu is not huge (i.e. the chef cooks fresh food very well and doesn’t do 101 dishes cooked by numbers out of the freezer)I challenge anyone not to find at least two things from each of the starters main course and desert menu that they would really like but have to choose just one!The wine list covers a range of styles and prices and I can’t imagine anyone being unable to find something that suited the palateAll of the staff have that nice mixture of an aptitude for the job combined with really good training so they are both personable and professional. Someone in the firm not only knows their stuff but knows how to impart it to staffI would describe the food as European/French f you want a dish prepared differently use askThe loos are spotless (always a good sign) and parking is easy on the road outside

We went with our daughter/son-in-law who are regulars. A friendly welcome from the manager and we went upstairs to our table. Drinks were ordered and arrived promptly and we were left with the menus to choose lunch. Without being pushy, the waitress checked when we were ready to order. When I saw the steak for two, I knew what my wife and son-in-law would choose. There was a 30 minute wait for this, but with a starter this wasn't a problem. My daughter is vegetarian and there was no choice for her. I settled on the local lamb, which I was told was served pink, which was fine for me; I assume that those who like their lamb more thoroughly cooked could ask on ordering. The steak was massive, even allowing for two persons and was well cooked with the usual trimmings; large Yorkshire puddings came for all of us. My daughter's cabbage dish was reported as tasty and my lamb was pink as expected and a generous portion. My daughter and I managed a dessert, Pear and Almond Tart - the portions were adequate rather than generous that was just as well as we had already eaten well. On paying, there was a mix-up about how much deposit had been paid and we left owing £20. Our daughter tried to pay this later but the restaurant wouldn't take it, saying that they were such good customers - a good tip next time!

We visited on a Friday night while they were doing their small plates menu. My partner eats meat but I’m a vegetarian & there was lots of choice for both of us! We had more than 10 plates between us & every single one was really good, we had deserts too! Amazing food! Lovely staff & quick helpful service! 5* restaurant definitely!! If we’re ever in the area again.. we will definitely come back! They also had a lovely choice of gins & a few cocktails & good wine selection.

An excellent birthday meal and a good opportunity for the teenagers to try lots of different new things. The crumpets with shrimp are superb and we had extras of the brie croquettes. The bao chicken also excellent. It's a five star place and gets a five star rating from us... But there are a few things that could be improved, especially the wine. I quite liked the idea of a limited but well selected wine menu, there were three reds to choose from and we had the top-price selection, the Borsao Garnacha 2018. At £32 when this retails under £7 the markup seems a bit heavy and although its a drinkable wine, it's also nothing remotely special which at this price it should be.The waiting on staff were the right kind of attentive, I'd have liked them to be able to talk about the menu more than the basic introduction of it being "small plates" but this (and them not pouring the wine) are minor criticisms. Well worth a visit!

Wonderful meal there last night. About a 30 min drive from our new home and more than worth it. Lovely welcoming staff, friendly & very Covid safe. But mostly the FOOD, incredible! It was tapas the night we were there (it’s not always) in the theme of air/land/sea. Hard to pick a favourite dish but think it might be the sourdough crumpets with brown shrimp and apple. Incredible and very affordable. You must go!

The food is fresh and extremely tasty. Flavours that Force you to tell who ever you're lucky enough to be sharing your evening with. The dishes are large enough to share but small enough to have several, allowing you to try multiple dishes on the menu. The pork belly dish, prawn dish and crumpet dish were particular highlights. This style also means you can spend as much or as little as you wish without being hungry or disappointed. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and make you feel at ease. we have eaten here a few times now. One was on New Year's eve which was of course unreal as it was a tasting menu and the 7 courses tasted and looked amazing. We went again on Sunday and had the three courses for £25 which is very reasonable. I had the whitebait and the portion was very generous and my partner had the sausage roll to start. I then had the roast beef which was nice and pink and my partner had the fish and chips again big portions with a side of broccoli cheese on the side. Finally I had Eton mess and my partner had crumble. The whole meal was phenomenal and such good value for money. Can't wait to go back again!!

My partner and I were lucky enough to secure a table here for Valentine's Day. Upon arrival at this cosy little fine-dining establishment, we were greeted with a warm welcome from William (one of the owners of this extremely successful eatery). There are many good reasons why Hyssop is rated so highly and we were about to find out why.The hospitality here is exceptional. We were amazed at the friendly, enthusiastic, energetic young team of chefs and wait staff. They really seem to be leading a small revolution; pioneering the craft of preparing quality, wholesome and locally sourced dishes to the highest standards. Everything was well presented and tasted exquisite, from drinks, to starters, mains and desserts. The kitchen is open plan and you will notice the conspicuous lack of freezers. The food at Hyssop is sourced locally, every day, from trusted farmers and growers in neighbouring communities. The painstaking efforts taken to provide the best for their patrons is revealed in the high standards of the food and customer experience.Hyssop is very deserving of the high accolades it has achieved recently and is one of the best dining experiences we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. At the moment, Hyssop is a little gem in Glossop that stays true to its roots, the team that have progressed it this far from a pop-up, cannot be commended enough for their steadfast approach to using fresh, sustainable produce and in their commitment to providing such a convivial atmosphere in which to enjoy the delicacies on offer. We will be coming back very soon, for the amazing menu on offer and the much anticipated 'catch' nights that are often sold out in advance.

Wow! Absolutely fantastic. This is a real gem of a restaurant - it absolutely deserves recognition and accolade. It is warm, welcoming, unpretentious and in our opinion, it was way better than our experience at The Star Inn at Harome which has a Michelin star. We loved everything about it!Right from entering the restaurant to leaving, the staff were amazing - friendly, warm, polite and super attentive. They never walked past a table without visually checking where each diner was at - water was replaced, plates were cleared. Not once were they intrusive - it was as though they were just ghosts gliding by.The setting itself is lovely with just the right amount of tables and the right lighting. The decor is stylish and the vast array of cookbooks from Michelin star restaurants (Mugaritz, Le Gavroche) solidifies the fact that the owners have a passion for really good food. The glassware, crockery and cutlery were also well thought through. The wooden butter knives were just delightful. The "shout-out" for the evening has to be the food - plentiful, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The homemade bread at the start was warm and tasty and our starters of ham hock terrine and crab were absolutely stunning. We chose the lamb for our main with a side of broccoli and pine nuts - the lamb was perfectly pink and melt-in-the-mouth and the accompaniments shared the plate with the lamb perfectly. Despite feeling full, we decided to share a cheeseboard - a selection of cheeses, homemade crackers and oat biscuits and the most divine pickled grapes. Quality and flavoursome ingredients on every single plate. Stunning! The whole team at Hyssop absolutely know how to serve top quality food and service - we are so lucky to have such a fab restaurant in our town!

A very friendly welcome awaits from the bar staff in a revamped restaurant . A good ambience and buzz. The menu was a little top heavy with meat but good choice available. Mackerel starter a little greasier than expected but ok. Chicken dumplings with green Thai sauce nicely flavoured. Mains of lamb and pork good combinations and moist . Fish cooked well with a specific and well constructed sauce created to avoid an allergy. All food arrived in good time. However there really should be a carbohydrate option other than chips at a restaurant aiming high, and not to serve decafeinated coffee also an error. We only had two bottles of the modest wine on the menu for six of us but even so we were at nearly £50 per head. These are London prices at good restaurants there. This is Glossop. A bit of reality needed. We were all unsure we would return because of that.

Came here for a Birthday meal, waitresses lovely and attentive, general decoration is a little shabby but that doesn't effect my enjoyment of food. Wine list is interesting and good range of wine by the glass. The home made bread was tasty for the most part but the crust was burn and so slightly bitter. We had the chicken dumpling starter which was very tasty and perfectly seasoned. For mains we had the lamb and the pork belly, the meat was perfectly cooked and tasted fabulous, the lamb came with a single underwhelming carrot and an unnecessary smear of cold carrot puree, with a little pot of shredded lamb with a creamy sauce. The pork belly had a small piece of black pudding and a pork cheek croquette with a single piece of pak choi which added a nice crunch but little else. At £19 and £17 respectively I expected at least a carbohydrate or a proper vegetable portion. We had luckily ordered chips as a side but they were disappointing, the inside was hard and dry rather than soft and melting as you'd expect. I left hungry and generally underwhelmed and will not be rushing back.

First visit last night and an excellent experience from start to finish. Very enticing menu, well presented dishes, lovely wine and friendly service. Great addition to the Glossop dining scene. We will be back.

First time at the restaurant, having eaten with them at the Bulls Head a couple of times. Really good standard for the money. Pleased that they've got some decent wines in now that they're on their own. This visit we had the we had the crab and smoked cheese for starters and steaks for mains. All well cooked and delicious. Only (very slight) criticism was that the espresso at the end of the meal was on the thin side. Overall, pleased to be able to get a meal of this quality, including wine, for around the £100 mark and within walking distance of the house. Shall be back soon!

I went to hyssop with my girlfriend for a special occasion and we were not disappointed. We were greeted warmly by the staff who guided us through food & wine menu with such professionalism. The food was mouthwatering and my only regret was we wish we didn’t have room for the full three course. We had the sharing steak which I highly recommended. We will be back soon thank you so much for a wonderful evening.

We have followed hyssops journey. We have enjoyed their pop-ups twice , their temporary time at their Old Glossop location numerous times to their now permanent location in the centre of Glossop . Once for dinner with friends to this evening of drinks and bar snacks.....Finally somewhere substantial to eat. And finally somewhere that honestly uses local produce and shouts about it. It's a great addition to our town centre and we are lucky that they have decided on us to set up shop here. The days of settling for the nostalgic mediocre offerings are over. The days of trekking to Manchester to eat well are over. The days of settling for the 'wow factor' of pureed celeriac alongside our main are over. I like Hyssops, I like them a lot. The drinks list is competitive- house wine £18 and If you're feeling flush some very decent offerings too.

I dined last weekend at the “new place to be” on Glossop High Street and it was more than incredible! I read a 1 star review stating the rudeness of the staff, and I think they must have been dining somewhere else!!!! The head of the front of house team Jess (also owner) went out of her way to treat us like we were the only ones in the room. The younger girl and boy were so polite and everything was so slick. Safe to say that the service was incredible, and the food was out of this world. I had the smoked cheese starter and pork belly main. Sublime! They should be number one on places to eat in Glossop! Nothing like this place for miles.. definitely will be back!!!

Fabulous food, great service, low key environment but you don't always need "hubbub" when you go for a lovely meal. The food definitely does the talking. Absolutely worth a visit and a really good addition Glossop High Street. Will go again.

Having recently been to the new location of the restaurant, the food was fantastic, the chef and staff were really friendly. They also catered to my dietary requirements and were understanding with my autism.

If this review was only about the food it would probably be 5/5. It is the service/attitude/rudeness from the main waitress that let this restaurant down for us. When you are paying top prices (particularly in Glossop) you expect not just good food but also good service. The head waitress was rude. Also, a small point perhaps but at £27 for a bottle of house wine I expect a cork and someone to pour the wine. The decor is also shabby. Overall a really disappointing experience for the high price tag.

We had a G&T; sat downstairs and they kindly gave us a Bao Bun filled with roast pork as a little taster. Then we went upstairs to the restaurant. We had a glass of white wine with our starter - other half had torched mackerel which he said was flavourful and I had chicken dumplings. The dumplings were gorgeous and very tasty. Then we shared a tomahawk steak that came with onion rings, chips, cavolo nero and a gravy. The steak was cooked to perfection at medium rare and so tasty. We had a bottle of red to go with it. Service was excellent throughout and they replenished the tap water several times so we didn’t have to ask. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the friendly service. At one point all the tables were full and I’m not surprised as the standard of cooking is excellent. Love independent places like this. We would recommend and we will go again.

Masterchef comes to Glossop! A completely different dining experience. Food presentation excellent and delicious. Service attentive but not intrusive. Wines a little expensive compared with other restaurants in the area. We will be visiting again -soon 😉😊

We booked here for a small birthday celebration and were lucky enough to get a table on a Saturday night. The welcome was warm, if a little chaotic - we were a couple of minutes early but were asked to get a drink at the bar....which was packed. Eventually got taken upstairs and seated at our table. It's a nice sized restaurant with plenty of space around the tables and it was not too packed and noisy which is how I prefer a restaurant!

Took my fiancé here for her birthday on Opening night at the new venue on high street west. We wanted to eat here when they were at their other location, but unfortunately could never manage to get a table. We had an amazing time, they have made changes to the place since the last owners and I think they have done the right thing. The downstairs now is only for drinks, but they said that they will be doing tapas/bar snacks in the future, and upstairs just nine tables. The smell once we walked through the door was amazing. We had a drink downstairs first before venturing upstairs, as I previously mentioned there aren’t lots of tables upstairs so the atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed, all of the staff were lovely and all really chatty, which is a really nice change to feel like we were being really looked after. We had a nice bottle of red to start and then we were given some complementary sourdough bread which was really nice, for starters my fiancé had the chicken dumplings, and I had the torched mackerel, for mains Tandoori fish (hake) and I had pork belly, and for dessert strawberry dessert with duck egg custard. Every dish was fantastic, and I thought that the bill was very reasonable. All in all a fantastic experience will definitely be returning if we can get in again! All the staff were fab, and I wish them all the best, just what Glossop needs

First visit to Hyssop, and we loved it. We received a lovely warm welcome, and the food that followed was delicious, Thai duck dumplings, sole tandoori with onion bhajis, and the best bit for me was the rhubarb and custard, duck egg custard Mille feuille with sharp poached rhubarb was one of the best puddings I've had for a long time, finished off with a nice coffee in the lounge. A relaxed evening in lovely surroundings, we would definitely recommend Hyssop and we will visit again,.

Visited this restaurant for a birthday celebration tonight. We had a private dining room, there were eight of us and it made the evening special and very comfortable. The food was delicious, well served and attentive staff. The restaurant lends itself for special occasions with plenty of space and lovely atmosphere. We have some great eating places in Glossop and this one is certainly a must.

A lovely spring day. Sun shining and feeling hungry. Happened upon this place. What an absolute gem. Off the beaten track, but more than worth travelling to find. A very welcoming arrival. Offered drinks before being seated for our meal. Delighted with the menu, right up my street. To be perfectly honest the food was outstanding. What a place to find. Prices good too. If I lived closer I’d be in here everyday. Go people, go and try for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. I’m looking forward to our next visit. Hope it’s not too long away.

We were a party of 6 on Easter Sunday and expected a fairly run of the mill pub lunch but were more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food - true quality restaurant standard but in a relaxed informal atmosphere. Great friendly service and very reasonably priced. One word of warning - don’t order an extra Yorkshire pudding as the one you get is enormous!

Have been to Hyssop several times since they opened, and every visit has been brilliant. Modern British food of a very high standard that is absolutely delicious, in a lovely relaxed pub setting. Friendly and helpful service too. A (large) notch above everything else on offer in Glossop, and as good as some of the best to be found in Manchester. Can’t stop telling all my friends about this place, and look forward to returning again and again!

Lovely trip out. Had this on the list a while. Great service. Good wine served by the glass (always a bonus) smaller roast portion for our Son. Disappointed that the veggie alternative was a small portion of cauliflower cheese or buttered cabbage. Also cheeseboard price of £9 was a little giddy.

Visited Hyssop for my wife's 30th, and we weren't disappointed with our choice. From the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic. I'd asked for a bottle of Prosecco on arrival and it was there when we sat down, and our server (I'm terrible with names) made Claire feel really special on her Birthday. I started with the Duck and Mushroom dumpling in Thai Green Curry, which is possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. Perfectly cooked steak and chips followed this, rounded off with a rhubarb and custard pastry. Claire had the scallops to start, steak and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious, well cooked, and well seasoned. After the meal we were given a plate with chocolates and a Birthday message written in chocolate sauce - such a thoughtful finale!! Yes Hyssop is pricey, but it's also value for money - we'll be going back!

Whitebait starter followed by sirloin steak, peppercorn sauce and “triple cooked chips”. I did try to replicate the chips at home recently, trust me, it’s a pain, leave it to the experts. They are delicious.

Great food at this pub. We booked last minute as it served food quite late and we had to bring our dog with us. Although the pub was quite busy and lively, the staff were very accommodating. Would recommend.
