Food not great but attitude of female who served us, even worse. Attended lunchtime on 31/05/24 to be greeted by “It’s cash only”, which immediately raised alarm bells. Stupidly didn’t challenge this and decided to order anyway. On ordering, the female serving made us feel unwelcome. The way she spoke to not just myself but other customers also, was just appalling. I understand that some people lack basic manners and don’t know how to behave socially or in a workplace, but ultimately this is where management come in. If this was my business, I would be mortified by the standard of my employees behaviour and the risk they expose to the reputation of my business. Manners cost nothing and they can actually go a long way.

It's a chippy does what it says on the tin

I went this evening to get 1 small fish, 1 small chips and scraps. Fish was fine. Chips dreadful and no scraps. Plus they were only accepting cash. This used to be a very busy fish and chip shop. Only 1 person and myself were in this evening. Won’t be going here again.

The fish gets smaller! This was a regular fish, it was more like a fish finger! You have to be joking!

Treated myself to a standard fish - i usually have small - but what a disappointment. The batter was very soggy. The fish wasnt nice. It wasnt white and juicy. One part was inedible. It looked grey. The chips were soggy and fatty. I had to dab the whole lot with kitchen towel. You could have squeezed oil out of the fish. In the photo the fish batter looks ok but it wasnt. Wont be going again. I can only give one star because it wasnt nice to eat ☹️

Raw fish. Second time it’s happened. No answer when I rang and no response to email. Reported to Council. Won’t be going again

Saw some favourable reviews for this place so drove 8 miles from holiday let. I was a little surprised as it was very quiet for a Saturday night. The staff were friendly but the fish and chips were dripping in oil, the Chips were soft and unbelievably greasy, the fish was the same, batter not crispy at all and there was very little fish inside. The curry sauce was okay though. Very disappointing, my mouth was coated with grease for 24hrs afterwards

Awful food. Chips were soggy, plus lots of bad bits on. Fish was overcooked with too much batter on & no scraps even though they were asked for. If they had none, I would rather have known that than get home to find there wasn't any! Will not be going again.

2 large fish and 1 large chips this is by far the smallest large iv ever seen , also asked for mushy peas and curry , But was given two curry’s instead which was lukewarm and still in its jelly state , will never go back , worst iv ever had for £18 shocking!!

Very expensive for very small portion sizes! Quite simpley not the chippy it used to be! And served by a scruffy member off staff who looks like they have never brushed their teeth,put me right off my fish and chip supper to be honest!

Nice chips but paid £7.35 for fish n chips and the fish was a thin long square fillet/slither, ,was tasty fresh fish, BUT! Dissapointed, if i served it to me family as a friday treat. It would of been worth it to drive to redcar for a decent portion.

Staff were friendly and the service fast but the food was terrible. Poor last time but thought I’d give it another chance, chips are okay but the worst fish I’ve ever had. Tiny, hard and full of bones. Wasn’t even fit for the dogs and had an immediate meeting with the bin .

Have been before and food is fine. Staff friendly but went at 6.45 on a Saturday night and no food left!!! How can that be when it's a fish and chip shop

Just ordered 3 large cod with small chips and a small cod with small chips and I wasn’t impressed at all. The large cod was tiny and it was really chewy and not even white inside I definitely won’t be going back

Ordered 2 large cod with chips and mushy peas. Lovely crunchy batter and piping hot. Excellent. Will be back again

Great fresh cod cooked well with a thin Crispy batter, the flakes of fish fell apart and was not dry. Chips great, mushy peas could have been a little more seasoned but that's a minor quibble.

We were staying at Tocketts Mill and decided to have fish and chips for lunch so looked up local fish and chips on the internet. I decided To go to Hutton lane as it was easy to find and had a rating of 4.6. We had 2 portions of fish and chips an a carton of mushy peas and a carton of curry. The fish was ok, not the best we have had but the chips even though there was a lot of them were disgusting, whether it was the type of potato or they weren’t cooked enough, the peas were ok but curry wasn’t. Most of the chips went into the bin. The staff in the shop were very pleasant.

Easily the best in Guisborough, please extend opening times 🙏

Called here for a takeaway supper. Lightly battered cod, chips and small mushy peas, twice. Ordered the fish as I reached the queue and by the time I was due to be served it was ready. The fish was cooked to perfection, the chips spot on and the mushy peas (aka Hartlepool quacamole) perfect. Hot, well cooked and served with a smile. A perfect chip supper. This place is always busy, expect to queue, but the meals are worth the wait.

This is only the 3rd time we have had fish and chips here, we have been in Guisborough for 3 years. The fish and the batter were lovely, though one time the fish looked as though it had been heated up from the night before, over cooked and hard, threw it in the bin. But on the last occasion as said the fish and batter were lovely, not keen on the chips but they differ wherever you go and are probably a personal preference. Having said all this, it is an award winning chip shop and probably worth a try.

Fresh large fish and chips,if there a queue order your large fish as soon as you join the queue it will be ready for you by the time you reach the counter.

Popped in for Fish and Chips and curry sauce. Very friendly staff fish had crispy batter, chips were great and I loved the curry sauce. Prices are very good and I would highly recommend Hutton Lane Fish Shop

There's good reason why this place is award winning! Top quality, decent price, proper Yorkshire portions. Enough said, really.

First time I visited was Good Friday - maybe not the best time as the queue was out the door, but the service was quick and the fish and chips were definitely worth the (short) wait.
