usually stay in barnstaple wanted to try somewhere different as we go away with our two dogs and like to be close to Instow and Bude so the dogs can spend time on the beach. we recieved a warm welcome from julie who was behind the bar collected our keys to our room then proceeded to dump everything inside then have a well earned drink. The room was tastefully furnished with a huge bed very comfortable gorgeous shower and tea, coffee and lovely biscuits also nice toiletries too. Off to the bar i went while hubby and the dogs sat in the sunshine outside the pub, lovely cold pint of lager and a bottle of wine too, the selections of wine isn't overpowering but well thought out and not too overpriced. now for dinner we had a lovely table which the dogs were allowed to come too which for me is a big plus as its there holiday too. well the food was fab cajun chicken goujons were home made moist and tasty, we also tried the dressed crab which was yummy and the hake in a beautiful sauce with prawns and the portions are big. Well stuffed so off to bed we went had a comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was at our same table as the night before ,we sat down dogs too promptly asked what we would like etc etc, lovely filtered coffee we had and i opted for the full english with an extra slice of bacon, hubby wanted an omelette which was huge and the free range eggs are beautiful so good that i asked Nicky the boss if there was any chance she could get me a tray to take home, no problem. That evenings food was just as delish as the night before i can,t praise it enough. Also i must tell you if your after an amazing sunday carvery this is the place all locally sourced food and the spread was amazing we had takeaway carvery which we could enjoy once we got back home this was included in our stay as we had stayed for 2nights. I have never seen a place so packed out for Sunday carvery so it says it all really. I cannot fault anything of our stay Nicky and John ooh by the way John is the chef too, to sum it up the staff are lovely the ambience of the place and just all round everything was perfect, we have already booked to return and from now on this will be our regular place to stay when we take the doggies to Devon. Oh by the way they also give doggies sausages for breakfast and scrap ends of carvery meet if your doggies are allowed so they are spoilt too. Took lots of pictures of the food but not good with uploading stuff on the laptop sorry.

We booked late (an hour before our midday lunch, fortunately they had just had a late cancel on Fathers Day) On arrival it was a very friendly and efficient greeting sitting us at our table in one of the many dining rooms. Ordered drinks from the bar whilst waiting and were soon called to help ourselves to the well stocked varieties of food on the carvery We both settled for the standard Carvery, large slices of beautifully cooked pork, beef, gammon and turkey (2 from 4) plus selection of perfectly cooked veg We followed with the Malteser Ice Cream cake and a “doggy ice cream” for our Sheltie All this for a shade over £50 was excellent value and will definitely return 👍

Our table for four was booked for 12.30 and our order taken very promptly but the food was not served until 1.30. This is not really acceptable. I chose Aberdeen Angus burger and chips but it was a very average meal. The chips were not particularly nice and the side salad and coleslaw very poor. The desert was very good which made up in a small way for the first course, but it was altogether a rather disappointing meal.

It was a lovely pub with the food being delicious on all 3 occasions. The portions were plentiful. When we ate here we had the fish pie, lasagne, burger, pork loin, veggie tart and a carvery on the Sunday. The carvery was lovely with lots of choice of meat and vegetables. It is a dog friendly and welcoming pub. Would definitely visit here again if we're in the area again. Thanks for the great food and service and making part of holiday memorable.

We came first for the roast carvery on Sunday. A choice of four different meats. I chose turkey. Loads of different vegetables on offer. A very substantial meal! I shouldn't have opted for the blackberry and apple crumble with custard for after, but as a holiday treat...! I couldn't eat it all, but it was delicious. Our dog was very spoilt by the staff with a plate of meat offcuts which she devoured in moments. After this we came back for several other lunches, and a breakfast on our last day of holiday. Always the same warm welcome, lovely food. Very reasonable prices too.

Dogs are welcome and we weren’t rushed to order as we couldn’t decide quickly from the amazing variety of dishes. We ordered bread and olives to keep hunger at bay! Finally opting for Turkey and ham pie. Burger. Hunters chicken. You would think we couldn’t have room for dessert, but we did! This place is really so lovely, friendly and considerate. The waitresses checking if all was ok and checking if we needed more drinks. There’s no need to book as a few people walked in and were told it was fine. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Booked in for lunch. On arrival there was a delay when it took 2 waitresses to try and find our booking that had obviously not been put into the book. Should this have been such a drama, well not really as there were only 2 other customers in the whole pub so a guess 40 empty seats. Then escorted to the table right next to the only 2 other customers. hello covid restrictions??? We ordered we ordered a drink and got the menu. Specials were not special trust me. Cauliflower gratin!!!!!!!!The main menu was one of those that had lots of writing but nothing worth having. Trying our best we nearly ordered a basic Shepherds pie for £14.95 or a burger for ……. Yes £14.95 or a sandwich for 5p short of £9. We paid for our drinks and left leaving the 4 members of staff serving the remaining 2 customers. No one asked what the problem was or even cared. The Hunters may capture some holiday makers especially as they are now adding rooms but every pub in rural Devon knows you need your locals to keep you going through the year and this pub has lost 2.In contrast every other pub we called from the car park was full so we waited until 5pm and got into a lovely Thai pub in Tadiport and both of us ate for less in the evening than we would have done for Lunch at the Hunters Inn.

We have had a couple of attempts at this pub over the years and to be honest we have given it a wide berth although we pass often on shopping trips to Barnstaple. Well we have seen the signs for refurbishment on the pub recently and on hearing it was open we thought yesterday, 3rd time lucky and gave the Hunters inn another try. We are so pleased we did, what a change and a pub now we have moved towards the top of our list of must visit local pubs. From the moment you walk in the whole pub is clean and new, I honestly think everything apart from the original outside walls is new. We were shown to our spacious seats and the menu offered and we were spoilt for choice, all great British classics and I chose Fish &Chips and my wife had the Saturday Roast option. Everything was fabulous and the staff were so friendly. The pub was warm with central heating but also a lovely log burner was glowing in another sight area. With an extensive menu and a Carvery with I believe 5 meats on a Wednesday and Sunday with the Sunday till 6pm I am sure we will return again and again as now, this will be a hard pub to drive past. Ample parking and good for wheelchairs and older people as I am recovering from a leg operation and had no difficulty at all in the pub or toilets. Hand Sanitiser is everywhere and the owners are very Covid aware so safety is paramount. Even your carvery is plated you just choose what you want and the staff serve you at your table.Just please don’t change, it would be good to see the specials changing regularly especially for locals who want to return so there is always an element of surprise with something on offer. Maybe you will look at a Steak & Kidney suet pudding and Chicken and ham my favourite dish and the pubs locally that do serve it sell out everyday but it is a winter dish.

Visited this brilliant pub/restaurant yesterday. It has new owners and I believe open for 2 days!. They have certainly gotten their act together. A great selection of meat and vegetables in their Sunday carvery. 5 meats and 12 !! veggies. Everything was well cooked and tasty. Went for the standard size which was more than enough. The staff were well turned out, polite and very efficient . We went mad and had pudding too. My blueberry and blackcurrant sponge was really good ,obviously homemade and came with a big jug of custard. So often you get a silly little jug of custard which hardly covers the pud. Plenty of parking and generally newly re-furbished rooms. I really hope this pub is successful during these challenging times. We are going back next week, this time with friends, one of whom is vegan which they also cater for.Thank you Hunters Inn and Good Luck.

I'm sad to have to write a poor review for the Hunters Inn. We have been coming to the pub for a number of years and the food has always been great. Today, however, was extremely disappointing I ordered fish pie which consisted of one cube of salmon two small pieces of white fish and two prawns, no noticable green beans or leeks in the sauce. The vegetable accompaniment was a spoonful of chantenney carrots and a spoonful of mangtout. The people who ordered the Sunday roast had several dishes of steaming vegetables and roast potatoes. The fish pie was very expensive compared to the roast and I'm sure some extra vegetables wouldn't have been cost prohibitive. My husband had vegetable tagine which was not a tagine per se, more like a vegetable stew with Moroccan spices. We were asked after a couple of mouthfuls if everything was ok, but unfortunately we hadn't eaten enough at that point to give an opinion. We did complain when we were paying the bill, but no reduction was offered.

Lovely little pub and restaurant. The menu is broad and the food is tasty but my, the portions are LARGE.

Tasty, well cooked food in a traditional pub setting. A great place for your homely Sunday lunch. Atmosphere relaxed and food full of flavour with simple, cheerful service.

My family and I ate here this evening and I was totally blown away by how good the food was! I ordered the faggots (which I’ve not had since I was a kid!) and it was the best meal I’ve had in a long time! The kids menu is a good variety, and my 12yr old son said that the lasagne and garlic bread were the best he’d ever had.

I had lunch here today and it was really the very best fillet of Salmon that I have ever had, succulent, tasty, very well cooked and a delicious sauce as well. Absolutely brilliant, well done. Everyone must go there

During a week's holiday in Devon we visited twice. Although the food and service was good the place lacked something. I'm not sure what as we enjoyed ourselves but it did not feel special.

I would seriously crawl over hot coals for this restaurants pork crackling and gravy. Sunday I had one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had. From the meat to the cauliflower cheese it was just lovely. The party had various meals and all were without fault.

A Saturday night out with friends and as we arrived, a fire tender was stationed in the car park with firemen just clearing up inside the pub . There had been a small fire in one section of the bar and a tell-tale smell of smoke hung in the air as we came in. This naturally cast some doubt upon our evening. However we were warmly welcomed by the staff and reassured that all would be well.

The Cod and Pesto special was lovely. The only reason I didn't give five stars was, one of our party of six had the Gammon Steak which was dry and a lot of gristle (unlucky cut maybe). Nice pub and will go again if up that way.

Food ok, sadly my rare steak didn’t live up to expectations, the other 2 steaks served looked far better, as did the rest of the meals! Desserts nice too - But the reason I won’t return is the service.... we had desserts and there our plates stayed ... we asked at the bar for coffee and were told the kitchen staff have left ... customer service and attitude very poor.

My husband and I spent a glorious weeks holiday in Devon and ate here a few times. The food was absolutely delicious and could not be faulted. We did not have one poor meal while dining there. Their Sunday lunch is to die for, the veg that accompanied the roast was delightful, braised red cabbage and cauliflower cheese with leeks. Not the run of the mill carrots and peas. I had a meal of Cod supreme, cod with a chorizo and butter bean stew off their specials menu one evening and it was sublime, one of the best meals I've ever tasted and at 47 years young I've tasted a few. Their desserts are heavenly too especially the panocotta that comes with melt in the mouth shortbread.

Well what can I say! Every time we’ve eaten here it’s been excellent and have recommended to friends too that gave this place 10/10! This was our first stop for a Sunday roast and wow wasn’t it delivered! Excellent service, our table for 4 hungry people was ready early and the food delicious! Thank you, can’t wait to go back!

It is with a heavy heart I write this great review. Why I hear you ask? Well, my review alone won't be enough to trigger a stampede I'm sure, but inevitably, this great little secret is going to get out! My wife and I went for an impromptu dinner on our way home from walking the dogs. We both had Pate starters that were awesome, delicious chutney, a small dressed salad accompaniment, lovely toast and a great flavoured pate. We both had sirloin steaks for mains, mine was a little under-done, but this was quickly remedied, chips were to die for and stayed crispy. Our server Sarah (I think), was really friendly and helpful. Please don't change, I hope your busy enough to be profitable, but not so that you have to change how you operate. Well done.

The pub was very busy on the night we visited so the service was slow, but well worth waiting for. The food was excellent - fresh & hot. The staff were very attentive & nothing was too much trouble for them. The building is traditional & cosy.

Always drop in for lunch when around this way. A consistantly friendly service and decent portions from an excellent selection on the extensive menu. There are good ales and cider available too ,so all in all the ideal place for a great meal when heading to North Devon.

Went here on Bank Holiday Sunday for lunch. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. The pork dinner was absolutely swimming in sauce (not gravy) which made it quite unappetising as it was just a lot of beige on the plate. The veggies came out separately and consisted of red cabbage, coli cheese, cheesy leeks (more cheese sauce than leeks and VERY rich) and swede peas and broccoli. Odd mix of veg to go with a roast pork dinner. Meat was very fatty too. All in all pretty bland and unsatisfying dinner. Hot plates were passed to us without any warning that they were hot, and they were passed very close to my baby in his high chair.

We called in for a drink and a Sunday roast and it really was very delicious and certainly we will definitely be making a return visit. If your looking for a top quality Sunday Roast then you will not be disappointed. My wife had the beef and the Yorkshire pudding was first class - I had the pork which came with a gorgeous stuffing and tasty apple sauce. I was a little disappointed that I only got two small sticks of crackling as it was very moorish :) we shared a very scrumptious sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream which was plenty it was really good. The staff were very courteous- Well done all.

Visited when very quiet on 3rd July. Did not book, but cheerfully welcomed and sat in the restaurant. Food was cooked to perfection, but should have taken advantage of the "lighter bites" option as struggled to finish the delicious dessert.

It is always an enjoyable experience coming to No Limits in Newton Abbot (Devon). I have food allergies and they have a fabulous menu that can cater for so many whether that be allergies, coeliacs or vegan. I really like their ‘pay it forward’ scheme which helps provide food and drinks for people who are having a difficult time. Most importantly, it is brilliant that they are providing opportunities for people with various needs and it’s a pleasure to be served by such enthusiastic and happy staff :-)

If you go to Bovey Tracey a visit to Old cottage tea shop is a must. What an absolutely delightful tea room. Old fashioned charm at its best. Good old fashioned menu. It's like having lunch at Grandma's. An absolute must visit.

A lovely pub with friendly staff and good food, served swiftly and efficiently. We had been on a long uphill walk to get there, and were very glad to be able to sit at a window table and look at the wonderful view. Will definitely return when we are in the area again. There was a huge log fire in the other room which would be great to sit near on a cold winter day.
