Hungry Monkey in Brighton and Hove

Visited here not realising that they had dine in, thought they only did take away.Amazing food, the taste was so fresh and clean with a lovely zing, this Thai food did not disappoint!Mum does the cooking and daughter serves the tables, nice small family run business. The restaurant is quite simple in appearance but by no means takes away the personal touch you get from the service and a lovely view over the riverside. Bring your own drinks... that's alcohol and soft drinks. There is corkage but an extremely non greedy £2 per person, no matter how much you bring/drink, just the one charge.We had the "combo box" huge starter, huge mains and a side, £15 each, make sure you're hungry!! Where else can you have such a wonderful meal for two at £30?!Well done guys, we will be back.

A no-frills restaurant decor wise but had a nice relaxed and casual feel about it none the less.Service was friendly and prompt. The food is so fresh, authentic and just all completely delicious. Best Thai food we have had for a very long time. Very reasonably priced too!

I arrived i time for my order to be picked up ( and heard the woman in the kitchen yelling” he only ordered an hour ago”.Finally after 10 mins, I was told half my order was now ready and it would be 20 minutes from the rest.Thankfully a refund was given. Awful attitudeI feel very sorry for they guy on the front desk, who was trying to hold it together. If you can’t deal with trade - don’t take orders.BTW asleep very expensive for what it might have offered.Went elsewhere

Hungry monkey is a Thai takeaway. I was very impressed with the quality and quantity for the price. A bit of a wait as all cooked from scratch. Loved it

Wow was wandering along looking for a bite to eat & came across this pop up Thai restaurant which is a cafe in the day & 3 evenings a week it’s a pop up Thai. We had the chicken Penang red curry & stir fried duck with cashew nuts & sticky rice. The flavours were just amazing. Best Thai we have ever eaten. You can take your own drink no corkage fees. You must give this hidden gem a try x

The main reason I dined at this place was that I walked past as someone walked out and the scent caught me! The ladies that serve and cook could not be happier or chattier. The food was cracking, I can thoroughly recommend the Massaman curry & Pad Thai as they were both SO tasty. It got very busy in the time that we were dining but everything was great and service was always with a smile. I will definitely visit again when I am back in Brighton.

From the very first time I visited Young and Val at Hungry Monkey I felt welcomed and looked after. The food is lovely and the vibe wonderful. We must have eaten there 20 times now, and always leave feeling full and happy! And the price is just right too!

Had the such a great time in here with a large group of friends. It’s such a heart felt pop up restaurant that’s genuinely authentic & feels as though it’s food cooked with soul. Forget fancy surroundings, a good meal is about honest food that is delicious and amazing company. The staff work tirelessly with charm and warmth & the food was absolutely delicious. Bring your own drink, chat, be merry & eat beautiful food. Highly recommended!

Yoong has been cooking great Thai in Poets corner Hove for years and we are long term customers. Her food never fails to please and is very authentic fresh and reasonably priced. Her pop up offers seating or you can collect. We had a lovely Thai dinner last Friday and will continue to return for great Thai food and her fantastic friendly welcome!

This was the second time I was wondering what was on my plate. This time I got a cashew chicken dish and the taste was a combination of Chinese and Italian. The duck sate looked like left overs with watered down peanut butter and my partners red curry was the most boring taste and look ever. I never had such a nonediscriptiv meal for a long time and to be honest I feel sick in the stomach. Shame I love Thai food but this puts me of. I just hope the chef had a bad day.

I should have been wiser and seen catch coming in the aptly named Resturant.

Friendly little pop up restaurant, simple choice of 6 starters and mains at £5 and £9 respectively. BYO alcohol so you are going for the food, which is amazing, cooked with love and delicious we will be back.

Fuimos temprano a comer el sábado por la noche, así que nos encontramos con las familias que estaban claramente muy relajado para estar allí. Precioso entrante de gambas rebozadas, seguido por un curry verde para mi pareja y realmente caliente, fantástico Jungle curry para mí. No hay presión para tener un montón de arroz, comenzamos con uno y luego conseguí otro. Mi pareja podría decidir si han de pollo o gambas, así que se sugirió tener ambos, lo cual era genial. Usted podría tener todas las opciones con gambas, pollo, tofu o pato y Yoong era muy servicial decirnos acerca de las opciones de menú. Te permite traer tu pripia bedida alcohólica y efectuarán servir licor. Crackers de gambas y salsa de chili llegó sin preguntar. Acuáticos inmediatamente (pero se puede comprar bebidas de lata). Sin duda volveremos pronto. Por último, es una idea genial para utilizar un café que no se abre por las noches como un pop up de restaurante.

I love that you can just order a table worth of food and they just bring you what they're cooking - feels authentic and is great value.

Este restaurante tailandés emergente es mi lugar favorito para comer en la localidad. Yoong sirve un menú semanal cambio de deliciosa comida tailandesa auténtica para los comensales y gente queriendo llevar. Es una fija semanal para mi pareja y yo para cuando no quieres cocinar, pero también quieren algo saludable y sabroso. Mis platos favoritos son bolas de vapor gambas, langostinos y rollitos de verano de tamarindo. La comida es genial yoong relación calidad-precio (entrante y un plato principal es 14 libras - grande parte así más que suficiente para uno! ) y el hecho de que ella es la más champán y sonriente propietario restaurante sé simplemente hace que visitar una experiencia encantadora.

We wouldn't go anywhere else for Thai food ! We're never disappointed and Yung never fails to give you delicious food with friendly service. You won't ever leave hungry !! She has such passion that shows through her food. Her cooking class I attended a few years ago was top quality !

My girlfriend had spoken about Yoong before as she attended her cookery classes a few years ago, so was very eager to try Yoongs new pop up cafe in Hove called Hungry Monkey. Firstly, the reception we received as we walked in was so warm and friendly, I knew this was going to be a great night.I went for all you can eat option at £18! Oh my gosh, every course was delicious....I don't have any dietary requirements, but if you do, Yoong can cater for you, be it veggy or vegan. Completely, completely recommended if you like Thai food.. just book early, because the word is spreading...

Where do I start?! This fab little pop up is absolutely fantastic both in food and service! The menu changes every week and I definitely recommend the all you can eat option at £18! Yoong is marvellous at cooking and I barely go anywhere else! And BYO which is amazing!!The menu changes every week and if you have any dietary requirements, she is totally on the ball! Veggie, Vegan, gluten or dairy free, she will carefully select a menu for you! Outstanding place and I always celebrate my birthday here too!! The Thai food in this little pop-up, situated in an everyday cafe is really very good. The red curry was my favourite with lots of balanced tastes. Service is very friendly and as it's a BYO booze the bill was extremely reasonable. Will be back for sure.

The food is always fresh and tasty, plus you can always let them know how spicy you like it. Menu varies each week is good.

Hungry Monkey is a buzzing pop-up Thai cafe in Hove. It's moved location and is now at 108 Portland Rd, Hove Hove BN3 5DN - it's only open 3 days a week! Thurs / Fri / Sat 6pm - 9pm. Authentic Thai cooking: order à la carte, take-away or get a £15 all you can eat buffet - all with BYO! Supermarket and cash-point just over the road. My favourite is Duck Pad Thai - but if you go for the £15 option you can try a whole range of dishes.

Having tried so many times to book I tried asking when and got the impression yes they are busy but also not flexible or able to handle numbers. Life is too short

Fantastic, tasty and authentic Thai food with a small daily menu, run by a really lovely Thai family. Unlicensed so bring your own wine, and only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. We had Duck Massaman Curry, and Spicy Pork with Basil (pictured) - delicious!

We came as a party of 12 last Thursday. The food was cooked fresh and very good. You can also BYOB. Host was brilliant as well. However it was a very small venue and a bit too cramped and hot for all of us which did affect our enjoyment

What a place! Completely new dining experience. It's like eating in a thai shop window with the opportunity to purchase all the ingredients used! The owner Yooung is so enthusiastic and passionate about food and people. limited menu, due to local licensing rules but she changes this every week with her own specialities. Currently only two tables! which can each seat 4 people with two sittings so you will need to book.Only open Thurs / Fri & Sat. We tried the " something of everything" which was a great choice. Full of flavour and blend of spices. No alcohol license but you can take your own. Really good value, a great new little secret. Highly recommend as a new experience.

We visited the hungry monkey last night with friends and were treated to the most delicious food and fantastic personal service. For only £15 per head the owner and chef, Yoong cooked us a selection of very tasty dishes to share, a variety of starters and main, catering accordingly for veges and level of spice. (The restaurant is BYO). With only room for two tables this is a very small but precious find that we look forward to returning to very soon.

Food excellent and passion of owner reflects in all she does. Worth finding away from main drag. Love it here.

I've been here a few times now and it really is a hidden gem! Tastes just like the Thai food I had in Chiang Mai! We did the £15 deal and the food just kept coming, highly recommended for a cheap informal eat!

We visit regularly and each time have been blown away by the authentic Thai food that Yoong cooks. She welcomes guests as if they were family and genuinely cares about her customers and that they are having an enjoyable time. The food is some of the best I have ever tasted and will continue to visit on a regular basis for a long time to come. It feels like a secret gem. Would recommend booking. The value is amazing and bring your own alcohol is great!

We had our first takeaway from here recently and it was the loveliest Thai food we have tasted in a long time. All ingredients are lovely and fresh. Our only complaint is that there simply wasn't enough! Will definitely be ordering again.

I came with family and Italian friends, our party of 8 had a fantastic time. A great attentive host prepared us a feast all cooked beautifully with fresh ingredients. You must try it here, excellent food and very good value for money.

We had several starters and a main green curry. The food was simple but very fresh and tasty. The interiors is basic but for £15 per person one does not expect luxury. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, like eating with family.We'd love to come again, along with friends. It is a small place, so worth booking.

A bright pink building, matched by a very bright and bubbly host who cooked very enjoyable and reasonably priced Thai food. My only complaint is the basic interior there was no ventilation and although I love Thai food I didn't want my clothes smelling of it the next morning! (The kitchen and dining area are next to each other)

On weekdays the venue is used for cookery classes but on Friday and Saturday nights it's open as a restaurant and take away.The food is good, but what makes it really special is the service. The chef / owner, Yoong, will tailor the dishes to your requirement. The menu can change according to what ingredients she has. (she's called us back before offering different dishes she could prepare as alternatives)Eating in is great fun (and cheap, bring your own booze) you can order from the menu, but we usually let Yoong choose, and she will bring us a selection of dishes. All very relaxed and friendly. Child friendly too.It's excellent service and great for special occasions. They really make you feel welcome. An asset to the community.
