Giggling Squid in Brighton and Hove

We had a wonderful experience at The Giggling Squid in Hove! The staff made it really special, as they were so warm and welcoming. We went for my sister’s birthday and the waitresses went out of their way to make sure that she enjoyed it. We will definitely go back!

Really great lunch in a cute space. Food was good quality and decent portion size. Everyone left pleased and satisfied

I had ‘melting beef.’ This would have been better described as ‘Bounty Bar Beef Stew.’ It was so sweet it could have been served as a dessert. My daughter had a red chicken curry, my niece had sticky chicken. As much as my food was completely ruined by the mountain of coconut that seemed to have been put in it, all three dishes were notable for their complete lack of garlic or chilli. Everything was bland, apart from the eye watering prices. Despite booking early the table was by the glass washer. The service was ‘okay’ but nothing more. Genuinely surprised that the place was busy. AVOID.

They have two restaurants in Brighton and hove and I’ve tried both. All good vibe and service, hove’s food is better. But I have to say, the white wine isn’t as good as food.

I’ve always enjoyed dining at the Giggling Squid in Hove, but my recent experience with ordering a delivery has left me very disappointed. I placed an order through their website, which linked to Deliveroo, where there was a promotion stating "Spend £15 and get 50% off selected items." I added well over £15 worth of dishes, but no discount was applied. When I called the restaurant, they blamed Deliveroo for not setting up the promotion correctly and gave me a number to call. After contacting Deliveroo, they informed me that the restaurants are the ones in control of these promotions, not them. Frustrated, I called Giggling Squid back, and they offered me their insulated delivery bag at half price as a "solution." Really? They just lost a £96 order and, unfortunately, they lost a loyal customer.

Great spot, really quiet but the atmosphere is really peaceful and demure inside, all I can hear inside is mellifluous tunes. I think it's perfect and the waiters/waitresses are great and really friendly. Their service is astonishing and is quite fast but I was with a trio yet others received theirs fast also. Pricing is also great, a portion of rice was only 3.50 which is a bargain. Overall, really good!

Loved this cute Thai restaurant in the middle of Hove , in an area known for its bars and restaurants . We ate small plates from the lunch menu - chicken wings , duck , chilli squid , spring rolls , beef and a few more . It was really delicious and the staff were friendly and professional . Would visit again .

I recently got a takeaway and ive been going here since they opened many years ago and the food i got this time was awful the texture and taste was horrible didnt taste fresh tasted like the sauce came out of a packet so i though maybe they have had a off day so i went in the restaurant same again tasted like a horrible curry you get out a packet i dont what has changed it used to taste so fresh and took me back to Thailand now i could get a better curry at whetherspoons

Didn’t plan this visit, but definitely glad we went! Didn’t know it was so good, and everything tasted quite authentic. Everything was so flavourful and delicious - even the drinks/cocktails. The seafood tasted fresh and was just so good!! Definitely one of the better Thai joints in the UK.

We had a lovely time celebrating my wife's birthday at a restaurant on a weekday evening! 🎉🎂 The staff was super welcoming and the atmosphere was really nice. We booked the function room upstairs for a family celebration, the food tasted vey authentic and delicious, everyone was happy with the dishes, we had our own waiter and bar, it was a really good evening out, the pricing was very reasonable, I had not heard of giggling squid prior to this but I will certainly be a repeat customer.

Wrong delivery sent. Chicken instead of beef plus the wrong rice. Measly refunded amount too. All could have been forgiven if it was tasty. It was VERY overpriced average Thai food. Won't be going back.

We just received our order from Giggling Squid (through Deliveroo) and not only was the crispy squid completely soggy and entirely lacking in crispness but the portion sizes for the rest of the dishes were tiny and the food completely bland and overcooked. This is the first time that my wife and I have ever complained to a takeaway and we were told my Giggling Squid that there was nothing that they could do and to speak to Deliveroo. We tried that and were told that there was nothing that they could do either and that we should complain to the restaurant. It turned a meal that we had been looking forward to all day into a complete disappointment. We will not be ordering again and would advise anyone else against it as well.

Really nice place for Thai food

Lovely food (was issue with one of the meals that was more fat than meat but they quickly resolved that.) table space is a bit tight.

Went for the lunch special, which is a great deal. Had the Hawker Special and it was all delicious. Particularly loved the soup. Also had the crispy duck. Fresh, vibrant flavours throughout and washed down with delicious pink grapefruit gin and tonic. Staff friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend

We often have dinner at the Giggling Squid Hover whenever we don’t feel like cooking and want to get out the house. All the curries are always delicious and the service efficient. Sometimes the food comes out very fast so pace yourself or you’ll be finished dinner before you know it! Only feedback is that the restaurant is kept very hot inside so always wear layers so you can strip off!

We visited the Giggling Squid this evening; table was booked for 6.45 and we ordered around 7pm Food arrived about 7.10 and the duck was tepid temperature with cold vegetables on the side. The beef tasted like rubber and noodles and rice also cold. I complained to who I think may have been the manager and she advised they could reheat it if we wanted her to….we didn’t as reheated food is nearly as unpleasant as cold food. It was obvious that the food was ready prepared and was perhaps flashed under heat for a couple of minutes- it definitely wouldn’t be possible to cook anything fresh in 10 minutes. The manager gave a half hearted apology and said she’d waive the service charge… So paid £70 for cold food and were in and out in 50 minutes - hardly a pleasant experience! Sadly in my opinion this is a classic example of a chain restaurant which has got lazy and thinks they can serve bad food based on their previous reputation.

We have visited the Giggling Squid in Hove a few times now and the service and food is always second to none. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and polite. We have recommended the restaurant to families and friends alike and they too have been really pleased with their visits.

A delightful lunch in attractive surroundings. Food was excellent and good value although drinks are on the pricey side.. Service was friendly and efficient. We'll be back in a heartbeat.

I absolutely love giggling squid, it has become my ‘go to’ lunch place with friends and family. Lovely surroundings and a welcoming environment, staff are super friendly and helpful. There are loads of lovely dishes on the menu, I usually stick with the tapas sets which are amazing value and you get to try a few things rather than one large dish. Don’t leave without trying their signature salt and pepper squid.. it really is the best!

Great food as expected and not overpriced

Nice starter potatoes and carrot hard in chicken curry. We were not asked if we wanted a sweet. Staff busy on phones. Paid more attention to takeaway.

Managed to get a table early on a Saturday night. Good service and some great nosh. We'll be back!

The staff was lovely and doing their best to please. The beautiful Thai cuisine was not too spicy. There is a room upstairs for party if needed. Overall, an excellent restaurant.

Ate here after a recommendation, well worth the visit , food was great, with a really nice menu, staff were very nice and attentive. Wine was superb and a reasonable price, think I made the wrong choice with the dessert, choose the caramelised mango tart, which was ok but nothing special. Thanks for a great meal though and thanks to the staff.

This is a tiny place, jammed in a row of shops. However, the food and service make up for everything. After a less than satisfactory lunch, a few months ago, to the Giggling Squid in Chichester, it was a revelation. Every little dish was perfectly cooked and served by smiling waitresses. As good as it gets.

My husband and I used to go here regularly, mainly for the separate vegan menu which delivered really delicious food; however we recently went and discovered that not only had the vegan menu disappeared but the dish we did order was so far below the standard we had come to expect that it was with a heavy heart we decided never to return. The vegetables in the noodle dish were a few carrots, and some bean sprouts and the tofu pieces were, well, sparse would be a generous description. Very, very disappointed indeed.

Decent pad thai but a bit small. I'll order again in the near future and hope that the portion size is bigger. Had to have a bag of crisps after to fill me up.

GF found a staple in her food, dish wasn’t ‘two-chilies’ 🌶️🌶️ spicy at all and WAY too expensive 🙃

Wow!! Absolutely delicious food! Went with friends and had a lovely evening together. Food choice was good for veggies (me) and non-veggie (them). Highly recommend. You'll need to book as it is quite small.

I had the Royal squid tapas plate and it was lovely. Lamb massaman curry is delicious and creamy. Not alot of heat, which is how I enjoy a curry. Duck springroll was also good. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

Amazing place; great food and service in this small, intimate restaurant. The food was beautiful. I had the sticky chicken and I also tried the duck. Good sized portions and not spicy. The staff were very attentive and even came around refreshing our water. Although it's not.a budget restaurant, it's definitely value for money. Book ahead though, as several people were turned away.

Giggling squid is always tasty and the food is always fresh. The waitress’s name was Fern. She had a friendly warm smile. We wanted to pay £20 each so that we could leave a tip but unfortunately she only charged my card £15. It got lost in translation.

Starters were magnificent, lovely main courses. We've not made it to desert yet. Staff very lovely, 2nd time eating here and were not disappointed.

Food - Better than average, not what I usually have in terms of Thai food but I like it. I don't usually like tofu, but this time I really did. Service - Extremely high-quality service; extremely quick and staff very friendly and accommodating. One staff was actually very conversational to young kids when he gave them the menu. Atmosphere - Lovely, quiet music (but not too quiet), nice and cosy upstairs, didn't see much downstairs as we ate up. Building & seating - Reservable. Nice tables and staff really care about it (not saying it's necessary or expected but I do like it) and guy offered us extra chair. Overall, I have little to no criticisms, and it is lovely to go to.

I got kuay jab spiced chicken and loved it! The chicken was halal (please check with staff before ordering). Not sure on the authenticity but food was good!

We love the choice of food although we do have our favourites - chicken with cashew nuts and massan curry. The choice of cocktails is interesting too! And don't forget the staff who are excellent.

Cute restaurant, service efficient not outstanding, and food is a decent standard but please buy bigger bins for the loos and some nice hand wash. The loos let you down. There are two toilet cubicles with sinks and paper towel dispensers to dry your hands....

Mum and I came for lunch, not our first visit, but one of many. Tapas sets are stunning, awesome food. We love coming to either this one in hove or the Brighton one

Ordered noodles with chicken but wanted some vegetables added. What came were too soft sugary noodles with what looked like soggy bread added, which was actually quorn- which I didn't want as I had added chicken. My friend had the same and found the chicken inedible. I was stringy and sparse,but I was hungry. I asked gor separate pak choi, as I could find a single vegetable in the sweet soggy noodle dish. After complaining about the food, the manager still tried to charge us for the extra veg, which should have been in the original soggy mess. Just awful...we deducted the service charge. Although the female waitresses were very courteous,the male manager was uncompromising and surly.

Warm friendly place, took two colleagues, both loved what they had, staff friendly, great food, not stuffy, great!

Staff and service amazing, when we arrived we were asked if anyone had any allergies. One of us did so we were asked to scan the qr code so that we could see what they could eat. Unfortunately the food they tried to order did have the ingredient that they are allergic to, but did not show when they had scanned the qr code. Luckily the waitress straight away advised that she thought that the food they were trying to order contained or is cooked in certain ingredient, so she went and doubled checked with the chef. Thank god she did otherwise there could have been a serious incident Poor person ended up eating just rice and spring rolls. All other food was very nice. Just need to make sure that when people do scan the qr code for allergies that it brings up all the information

Everything perfect. Popped in for the first time yesterday lunchtime with my son. Had lunch menu hot fresh food hot plates unheard-of. Lovely attentive efficient staff. I will go back!

Absolutely delightful first trip to Giggling Squid Hove this weekend. Husband and I dropped in to sample some of the tapas and we will definitely be coming back. Food was delicious and the dishes we tried whetted our appetite to come again. We especially enjoyed the pork dumplings and the sleeping honey duck. Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent Thai food, really tasty curries

Seriously??? Tasteless, boring, not at all authentic. How can so many people score this as high as they do. This is the McDonalds of Thai Restaurants. I've eaten Thai food in at least six other Thai cafe's and restaurants in Brighton & Hove, this is by far and away the worst. I'm not even going to mention it's the most expensive. I will never return, ever.

Thai food is one of my favourite cuisines, so my partner & I pre-booked dinner at this branch of Giggling Squid for last night. It was our first visit there. First impressions were patchy as once they checked our reservation (we were ten minutes early)...

We generally go here whenever my folks come over. We had a lovely Boxing Day meal with my mum yesterday. It's a beautiful & trusted little joint.

The service was super quick and the place had a nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it.

This place is the best. Beautiful decor, lovely ambient, great staff and food delicious. They even have separate vegan menu! Really the best place to visit.
