While staying at the adjacent Premier Inn (very good) we made the mistake of pre-booking breakfasts for four days at the Hungry Horse next door - a big disappointment. The place was very shabby with rotting wooden entrance doors. With one exception, the staff were inattentive. The "continental" buffet menu was missing one or two advertised items each day. Very loud music blasted from the open door to the kitchen. The cooked meal was good. On day two the person who greeted us with her clipboard omitted to take note of our room number; when we left the restaurant she chased after us and (without asking for an explanation) immediately accused us of not having paid for our meals - that was despicable behaviour! Such a poor standard of meal provision spoils the experience for the hotel customer but also damages the reputation of Premier Inn. We have had a number of Premier Inn breaks in various locations and been satisfied with the food service. Sadly, this latest experience makes us cautious about planning future breaks.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. The Mix it Up Sizzler. The sizzler choices are good and the plain chicken skewer is very moist and tender. Only little issue is that the peppers and onions are very soft and mushy. Would like them to still be crunchy.

I thought I would give it a second chance as my first visit wasn’t good. Today we went there for breakfast. My latte was just warm as was my husbands chocolate. I ordered a full English. After waiting quite a while it arrived. Needless to say I was disappointed. The sausage didn’t look cooked and was cold, my eggs were broken, bacon and beans Hardly warm and hash browns were the same. I can honestly say one of the worst breakfast I’ve had. The lady on the next table sent her sausage sandwich back as the sausages were also cold.

The Hungry Horse in Sixfields has always provided good value for money, but it has to be noted that its popularity is also its biggest negative attribute. We were warned when we arrived that there was going to be a wait to be seated and then a wait for food, so this was not a major problem - we decided to stay knowing full well what we were in for. The atmosphere is a very loud one, this IS a family pub. The board games available are a nice touch and we got a few rounds of connect four in before the food arrived. When it showed up I was given someone else's meal - which happened to be the same as mine but the steak was cooked differently. When the meals were swapped (before I'd had a chance to touch it - they noticed it was wrong before I did, and corrected it!) they took my steak knife and didn't replace it which was mildly annoying. So there were a few issues but that being said the place was absolutely heaving and therefore I can't really blame them. The place has recently been refurbed and looks lovely, but the table at which we were placed was not great and we got knocked a couple of times by people passing by. Despite all this, this is a family, low cost pub, and I felt we got what we paid for - good value for money and a rough and ready experience.

Visited today with my husband & wish we'd gone somewhere else. Thought the food & staff had improved here so we started coming here for dinner & drinks once a week. Sadly we've found out that it's just as bad as it was before. My husband wanted one meal that they didn't have even though it's on the menu, so he ordered something else but they didn't have that either so he's ended up with chips, curry sauce & bread. Which to be honest wouldn't of been big enough for a child. I ordered sweet & sour chicken & it wasn't until it arrived that I was told they had no sesame prawn toast so I'd been given 3 spring rolls instead! Would have been nice to be told before I ordered it so I could of had something different. Food is poor & the staff are not far behind. Don't waste your money there's plenty of other places round here to eat!

When the Sunyside was originally a Hungry Horse, the food and location were good. Unfortunately it went downhill over the last year or so and go a lot of bad reviews. The SunnySide has now reopened as a Generous George, and what a transition. wE as a family have eaten here many times as we are local and not once have we had bad food or cause for complaint. There are some previous Hungry Horse staff and a lot of new faces, all are walking round with a smile and actually now appear to enjoy working here, unlike before.I can certainly recommend the pizzas, really nice and cooked fresh. The food is so much better than before and the prices are still very reasonable. If you had a bad experience here when it was a Hungry Horse, then put that to the back of your mind and give it another shot, I'm sure y will be pleasantly surprised.I just hope that the number of staff and the positivity here remains high and doesn't over time diminish.I visit here in a mobility scooter and can confirm that accessibility is good.

Having seen the Sunnyside transition from the original pub, to the lacklustre Hungry Horse and now to a Generous George, I was mildly sceptical but intrigued enough to pay a visit shortly after the grand opening this past weekend. What a great surprise! The bar is spruced up in turquoise, the dining areas all fresh - and there's even a partition to prevent kids doing an F1 circuit round the entire pub, thus if screaming isn't your bag you needn't fear. The menu has welcome additions, of course there are the classic pub favourites but there's a Americana diner feel, along with a pizza bar allowing you to watch your feast be baked from fresh before your very own eyes. The biggest change is in the staff. Prior to becoming a Generous George the waiting and communication was lacklustre. Staff are now incredibly personable, smiley and chatty and amusing conversations are to be had now the venue is sufficiently staffed, which makes a big difference. Shout out to the smiling faces of Yvette and Julie! An indication of how the new, fresh-faced team are going above and beyond is as follows. A friend and I ordered our meals - she ordered a pizza with chicken which arrived without. How did they solve this? One new pizza made from scratch including said chicken and a free dessert for each of us for waiting! No complaints here.Having only been open for a week and offering many individuals the opportunity to begin with bar work, ordering food and drinks can take slightly longer than the norm, but I recognise that this is a learning curve and once the tills are mastered they'll be up to speed in no time. Was I pleased by this new takeover? Well, we went to the Sunnyside two nights running...

Let's be honest, we all go to a Hungry Horse for value for money food; & they do do good value food. The food's not great, but it ain't bad either. Generally! The Sunnyside is your standard Hungry Horse, big, noisy, full of kids running around.I had the beef steak & ale pie which was good, full of meat, no fat or gristle, decent pastry. My wife had a rump steak, cooked rare but was quite dry & a bit fatty. My daughter had the macaroni cheese, which was OK (she ate it all, which is always a good sign!).We did have to wait a long time for the food (30-40 minutes), which was a bit surprising because they weren't overly busy. But you can't complain when the macaroni & pie were priced at £7.99 for both meals & the steak was under a tenner. This place isn't for fine dining, but for those on a tight budget & unfussy about the surroundings, it does the job.

If you are looking for a meal out do not bother coming here, the cutlery has scrapings of the last 30 meals that it has hacked, still present, the wine glasses are cleaner from a car boot, the staff have an attitude of someone who really do not want you to be there, oh and I haven't even mentioned that I reckon that they have employed retired 1970s canteen staff that have lost their ability to use there organs to man the kitchens. Just saying to 100% of there customers oh just have a free kid's pudding for our apologies and still have to wait an hour, because we didn't bring your food out is simply not a good way to run a restaurant business. I visited sunnyside with a friend for dinner this evening and I can sadly say one of the worst evenings in a very long time, we were told the food would be 45 minutes which wasn't an issue, we then had our drinks, coke which was disgusting with no ice which would have been acceptable if the evening hadn't got worse, after an hour I asked where the food was and was told it would be another 10 minutes, I then asked to speak to the manager and again was told she would be with us in 10 minutes, 20 minutes later still no food and after asking again for manager she finally arrived saying sorry which was a little to late, after asking numerous waiters where the food was who then in turn disappeared in to the kitchen and never reappeared with explanation the food finally arrived nearly 2 hours later, I had chicken New Yorker and a salad I had ordered what turned out to be a lump of lettuce in a bowl and my friend had steak which was so tough and a struggle to cut, at this stage we were so hungry we thought at least we had got it but on tasting the food it was cold and the chicken was under cooked and steak so tough both meals were inedible, we again asked to see the manager and we were told she was upstairs and this other person was asked to sort out a refund, on discussing further with this staff member we were told that they had major problems in kitchen and only 1 cook with other staff helping which I would assume we're not properly trained to do this job and to me a risk to people's health, this in my eyes is an environmental risk and I will be reporting this to them. When asked for details of company again waitress returned never to be seen again. Please think very carefully before eating there I know I won't be until management are changed.

I went here after the school run for dinner with my mum and children. I ordered a cheese and bacon burger, which looked ok, I cut it in half and ate the first half then before eating the second half I lifted the top off the bun to be presented with a 'short black hair' perched on top of the lettuce. Obviously I was disgusted (feeling quite sick at what I may have already eaten) and asked the waitress for my money back for that meal as it was not edible, she told me that she would show it to her manager, not that this should have even been quibbled over. After 5 min I was told that the manager would bring me my money back. 20 mins later we were still waiting so as I had not eaten and felt quite sick about the hair I went to the bar, 'I'll fetch the manager' he said, 5 mins later she appeared with a face on her, asked me what I'd had to make sure she refunded the right amount (thought she had been shown said dinner) punched the till a bit and then begrudgingly dropped the money in my hand, with no apology just a filthy look as if I had inconvenienced her by not being able to eat because of a hair in my food, or as if to suggest that I had put it there myself just to get my £5 back. Very rude, very bad customer service, a very bad experience all round, we as a large family will not step inside this place again. And will never recommend to anyone. Really cannot get over how rude the manager was and that this is the type of customer service and standard of food that is being served. Yuk.

Today was the second time me and my mum have been to Sunnyside. Our first visit was in November and we had my niece with us. We went in and were welcomed by a lovely member of staff, then it all went down hill. My mum ordered a steak and I ordered Hunters chicken, we were then told it would be at least a half an hour wait, which at the time we didn't think was to bad, although we thought it would be quicker as the pub was empty. So after our 40 minute wait, our food came out and my mums steak was rock solid and burnt, bearing in mind she had ordered it medium rare. we asked the waiter to take it back and he then came back out and told us that the chef and said that we would have to wait about 30 minutes because it would take her about 15 minutes to cook a whole new meal or my mum could just eat the one she was given first. So after my mum waiting for a new meal to come out I had finished mine and was feeding my niece. So overall this wasn't a great visit. Then today, we went in with my grandma and we didn't even end up eating. We went to go into one entrance and because my grandma is in a wheelchair we couldn't actually get her through the door so had to walk all the round the other side just to get in, and even when we got in there wasn't a lot of space to put her wheelchair so she could be comfortable. Me and my mum went up to the counter to be served and straight away we were told by the member of staff she didn't know how to use the till properly because she had only been working there for two hours. We then had to take our drinks back straight away because the gas had gone in the coke dispenser and we had to wait 10 minutes for them to change the gas. Us and three other tables were then told there would be a 45 minute wait. So 50 minutes later we were told it would be another 10 minutes. So then after an hour we were told again it would be another 10 minutes. So my mum went up to the bar to get a refund because we had now been waiting well over an hour for our food, and people that had ordered way after us had already gotten there food and we were still waiting. So after all this us and three other people were getting refunds and leaving without having the food. Overall a poorly run pub and restaurant. WILL NEVER RETURN!!

Went to the sunny side for a nice treat for dinner after a stressful day. Walked in and it looked fairly busy so had to sit on a table covered in salt and one that had clearly not been cleaned properly. Went up and ordered food - ordered a tuna and cheese melt baguette, chicken New Yorker baguette, twisted fries and cheesy garlic ciabatta bread. We waited a good twenty minutes for the waitress to then come out and tell us that they baguettes hadn't been defrosted so we could not have them. We were offered to have the fillings in a wrap or a sandwich. So in the end, feeling very disappointed as I only went there to have a baguette because they are usually really nice, we had to put up with having a sandwich. But we only received the food after yet another 20 minute wait. After this wait you'd expect the food to be hot made from fresh. The sandwich was on cheap processed bread with the salad that came with it smothered in a disgusting dressing. As it was supposed to be tuna and. Cheese it was expected by myself to have both fillings in the sandwich but it did not. It had barely any cheese (couldn't even taste it) and a tiny dollop of tuna. The other chicken New Yorker was in a wrap and did not look appealing at all. The twister fries were cold and not tasty at all. The garlic bread was also cold. Very disappointed and will not be returning here. Definitely not worth the money paid.

Where do I start!!5 of us visited for breakfast.Firstly the cups were filthy, every cup that we were then given were also dirty, I think the sixth cup was clean. They had run out of filter coffee so was offered Nescafé., and was told that it is 'staff coffee'. (We was not charged for this). All of the cutlery that we were provided with was dirty, I had to ask for a jug of hot water, so I could clean all of the cutlery on our table, We asked for napkins and was told there wasn't any. I ordered a round of toast with marmalade which cost £1.99, I got one slice of toast and was told that they had run out of marmalade. The food was only warm, not hot. The bacon had been cooked in dirty oil. The salt pot was dirty. We was not asked if our breakfast was ok, if so, we would of gladly given feedback. We will never be returning to the Sunnyside public house. All staff need to go on a customer care and hygiene course.

Expectations of food quality are low at any Hungry Horse but you know what you will get for your money. This is no exception. We regularly visit due to the childrens' facilities and I have previously left a very positive review to reflect that.On this occasion the negatives cannot be ignored. EVERY available table was full of debris, dirty plates and glasses from the previous occupants and the floor littered with food and general mess. There were scores of customers and only two members of bar staff serving - the wait was significant. Upon ordering we were advised of an hour long wait for food orders.Much of this can often be forgiven due to the family-friendly nature and facilities. Now that has vanished I see little reason to return - none of the arcade/vending machines work or are switched on, the indoor play area is now obsolete as none of the games consoles work either, the pool table has been removed and the bouncy castle has disappeared. The forest/wooded area is now a hazard for adults, let alone children - with broken glass, smashed up furniture and discarded tires/wired fencing. Even the outdoor play area is hazardous with a sprinkler system installed and resulting trailing hoses. Children are easily satisfied with a balloon/crayons and colouring - none of those any more either. The food has always been dire, now the service and facilities are too - I don't know what has changed but we won't be returning until it has changed back!

I'm not suggesting that students don't appreciate good food but their priority is lots of it and at a reasonable price and as this restaurant is opposite the university, it's an obvious place for them to visit as it suits their needs. However, for others it is just another basic diner serving ordinary food by disinterested staff. On the few occasions I have been here (more out of necessity than choice) there has never been more than two members of staff taking orders and they all give the impression that they wish they weren't there and orders take a long time to come to the table. It is a typical Hungry Horse restaurant which is owned by the Greene King brewery company. It is never a welcoming and pleasurable experience dining there. On the plus side, it is large and there are lots of tables available together with ample parking spaces and an outdoor children's play area but nevertheless, not a place to go for good food or good service.

Unfortunately, the Sunnyside serves up pretty much the same depressingly mediocre offering as most pub restaurants and has nothing to make it worth a second visit. Another example of a place that really has no pride in producing interesting and well prepared food. Yes, it's edible and yes, it's cheapish - but that's all.

5 of us visited on Friday 20th February at 12.40 for lunch. We work closely and know the food is nice and inexpensive. However on this visit we were extremely disappointed with the wait for our food to arrive. Being the last Friday of half term we anticipated a longer wait than usual for our food and when we ordered we were informed of a 30 minute wait, which was not a problem. However after an hour we chased our order to be told it was on its way out, 15 minutes later our food arrived. As usual the food was nice and of a good standard it was just a shame we had to wait so long for the food. This will make us double think about coming again during our break, we are lucky to have an understanding employer.

I visited this pub with relatives who where visiting from Wales, in the end I was embarrassed I had inflicted this terrible experience on them. The service at the bar was so slow and unfortunately a hot drink could not be purchased for one of the party due to the machine being broke. Meals where ordered, one diner was vegetarian, after going through the menu and being told each meal she wished to order was not available, she therefore asked what was available on the menu and was told only Macaroni cheese was her option . Two jacket potatoes where ordered which arrived black and overcooked, chicken ordered was dry. Don't bother with this restaurant you will find better in Northampton.

This is not a bad place, reasonable food at a reasonable price. What lets this place down is the lack of staff. On arriving we waited at the bar a good 10 minutes to be served, whilst waiting there were several members of staff stood around apparently doing nothing, whilst they let the one girl working behind the bar to rush around & serve all customers. When returning to the bar to order our food, things had gotten worse, the same girl was doing her best to cope, whilst one lad serving behind the bar thought it was getting a bit to busy so he disappeared behind the scenes. The bar is basically left to one person to manage !After a 15minute plus wait at the bar, and still a big crowd waiting, we left & went to The Whitehills Pub just a few miles away, within 10 minutes of walking out of the Sunnyside we was sat down with a drink & a meal on its way.UNTIL THEY SORT OUT THE STAFFING ISSUES - AVOID !!

Sunday was the third time we have visited, it is convenient to the University where our son is studying. On each occasion the food has been what we expected from this sort of chain, although my scampi was a little over done this time. The biggest complaint this time was the coffee machine was not working so no hot drinks, the bar tender said it has been out of order for a few day. Can they not boil a kettle! It is not rocket science. We will be going again, two more years of study and it is convenient and not expensive.

Went here on a weeknight not expecting an Alacarte menu but some simple pub food and a drink and were not disappointed with the food, we ordered some nachos to share and a bowl of chips and were content. However my friend ordered a pint of cider which wasn't right at all, I tried it and agreed as I have worked as a barmaid myself. The bar lady snatched the pint off him and gulped it... Now from working in pubs we do have to test it sometimes because people take the mick, but you're supposed to put a straw in the pint, and put your finger on the end to get a sip and then put it in your mouth, in no way is it ever acceptable to do what this woman did and my friend and I were gob smacked. She then said 'there's nothing wrong with it but what do you want?' This was completely unnecessary as she could have just offered him something different but instead kept making snide comments about the fact there was nothing wrong with it, even if there wasn't... What ever happened to 'the customer is always right' my mate ordered a pint of coke instead which was cheaper anyway and he had already paid for the pint but didn't ask for the difference back, I'd have understood if he ordered a double grey goose on ice! Overall the rude staff ruined our night out and I for one will not be returning.

I booked our Xmas work meal here following a super experience last year. Unfortunately they did not live up to expectations. We were seated away from all the other Xmas parties in a cold bay window so we felt a bit conspicuous and isolated at the same time. The table was booked for 7.30 and our starters eventually arrived at 8pm. Mains arrived in dribs and drabs at 8.45. We had to ask for more gravy and the sauce for the salmon dishes. Portion sizes were inconsistent and we could have played cricket with the dumplings. Deserts arrived 9.30 by which time we were all tired and just wanted to go home. The manageress appeared embarrassed when we showed her the dumplings and did offer some wine for the table but as most of us were driving we settled for mince pies instead. The staff appeared very thin on the ground considering the time of year and were rushed of their feet which may have accounted for our poor service. They also forgot to take our deposit off our bill which caused some anxiety until we realised. We were asked if everything had been OK when we paid our bill - when I said no the bar maid seemed disconcerted by my answer but did not offer any excuse or offer of further compensation. However I informed her that we would be voting with our feet and would not be returning

I took my sister out for a meal here as she is at the local University. I wasn't expecting much from the restaurant as I don't have a high opinion of the Hungry Horse chain due to prior experiences. However I am shocked that I was pleasantly surprised! We we served at the bar by a friendly member of staff - and the excellent level of customer service continued throughout. The staff were helpful, ensured we were enjoying our meal and the food was served in a reasonable amount of time. The food was good quality for the price we made - I am not expecting 5 star food for under £10 but it was flavoursome and well-cooked. They did have the trademark sticky menu's but the table and cutlery were clean and that's all that mattersVery impressed with this location and you have restored a little faith in me about the Hungry Horse chain. Well done.

We decided to use The Sunnyside for breakfast as it is so close to Park Campus at Northampton Uni where our son is a student and we were celebrating his birthday. It's a large pub in a nice setting amongst trees which looked lovely at this time of year, plenty of parking and seating available outside. The prices were very good ie £6.50 for a very large breakfast for my husband and son, and £3.50 for a smaller breakfast for myself and my daughters. We weren't expecting much for the price paid but were pleasantly surprised. It was all well cooked including the eggs, nicely presented with good quality sausages, bacon etc. The staff were very pleasant and were kind enough to also provided a container for my son to take the rest back to his flat, being a student and on a budget he couldn't see it go to waste!

With the close proximity to campus this chain pub is a lunch spot for staff and students. Having been there on a few occasions over the years now there is a clear trend. While the prices are what they were 3 years ago, the portion sizes have shrunk considerably. So much so we no longer see the value for money that got us through the door the first time. Decor is staring to look very tired now as well. Needless to say that with this trend we are looking for a different lunch spot these days!

Friendly staff took our order and sadly ran out of our first choice of main course. It was almost 7 pm though.Meal arrived within 10 minutes. I had a very nice fish and chips, and my partner had what he said was a very nice and very hot, halapino flaming hot burger. However, we ordered the candy mania ice cream desert, which took 25 minutes and a trip to the bar to remind them we were waiting. Wednesday night is disco night, with Rock and Roll Bingo, and we stayed to enjoy some music and relax.

As a pub/ restaurant that prides it self on being a family establishment, we thought great we'll go for lunch with our two children aged 16 months & 3, it was a Sunday afternoon so busy ish, but there was 3 bar staff working so the bar was very busy indeed! I must have waited 10 minuets to order a drink & food, which took about 30 mins to arrive! Giving us 2 very hungry & screaming children, if you have kids you will understand! Then to my horror I ask for high chairs for said kids only to be told he can't find any? There scattered about his says if I find any I'll bring them over he says! 10 mins off trying to eat our dinner & feed the kids on our laps, I go & search the hole pub! & there are 2 in the hole place both being used! So I go to find the manager only to find now 2 bar staff working! So the bar is now 3 deep! So the kids didn't eat properly, our relaxing lunch was a complete waist of time & money!! This is a hideous chain pub with mass produced, poor quality food however..It is also the perfect family/child-oriented venue - there is a simple yet sufficient outdoor play area, an enclosed wooded area for kids of all ages to explore and ample outdoor seating. There is a free, very popular bouncy castle and a modern, innovative indoor gaming (Xbox Kinect/FIFA) and soft-play section. The food is simple but excellent value for money with a vast choice - it's far from fine dining but excellent kids offering. All in all, for this type of event it was perfect - they even have an area for kids. The waitress Jayne should get a special mention - she was a star from beginning to end. It's a shame that there are TV screens everywhere (even next to some tables), but thankfully no one in our party is particularly a football fan and so we managed to ignore them.

Food was alright considering we had to wait about half an hour and we had to queue for another half an hour. Then all the food arrived at different times so none of us actually ate together. The outside bit allows dogs but they're not allowed in the actual restaurant and at this time of year it's way too cold to be sitting outside. There used to be an indoor dog seating section but since the Costa was removed, so was the seating area. Food is what your normally expect from a garden centre: good choice of jacket potatoes, paninis, soups, sandwiches etc. It was very busy though.
