Hungry Horse - The Oxon Priory in Shropshire

Our first visit to Oxon Priory. We had a warm welcome from Dawn & Holly. Food was piping hot and very tasty. We will definitely be coming back and recommending to family & friends.

I would like to say Thank you to all the staff at The Oxon Priory. We have had such amazing afternoon. What a deal burger and a pint for £12.00 each. The New Swiss Burger amazing 👏 Staff professional and the service was fantastic. Kitchen staff amazing food. Hot delicious food. Well presented. Even the bill was under £50.00. For meal and drinks. Even the tiny little touches on our back of our bill. Thank you all so much. Will definitely seeing you again. Specially for that burger 🍔.

Went on a Saturday lunchtime. Staff excellent and food very good for the money. Can’t expect homemade chef produced at these prices. Excellent value would recommend

We haven’t been for a while and decided it was time to return. We are so glad we did! Firstly we had a lovely welcome and were shown to our table straight away. Staff were attentive and really helpful. The menu was vast and had something for everyone. Once ordered, the food came in a good time, everything was piping hot and very tasty. Once finished the plates were taken away promptly and we’d already spotted others with some great looking pudding, so we had to indulge! Once cleared away we had a lovely chat with Dawn, who is really turning this pub back around into a perfect place for a nice meal. Well done to Dawn and her team!

Haven’t been in a few years and it’s changed management since but the daughter wanted Mac and Cheese and others wanted more typical pub food. Could fine many places that did that combination Nice welcome Drinks order taken quickly Food order taken quickly Pipping hot food delivered quickly Good choice of deserts Left feeling full and happy! Amazing service as always. Great for the kids too with the outdoor park. We have always found the oxon welcoming and accomdating. Tia our waitress was brilliant so thank you for making our latest visit so special.

When we arrived we were advised that there was a 30- 40 minute delay on food- this was OK but the restaurant wasn't that busy. We ordered drinks and eventually our food, although there were several things "not available " and we waited and waited and waited!!! Eventually after an hour I went and asked one of the 3 staff on duty when could we expect our food? A young man said "I will go and check"- he was gone for a good five minutes and came back to say that "he was just doing it" and said " we've had two big tables in the back to sort out" (we counted- there were 8 people and about 6 people). "So it's coming out soon, OK? No worries" and walked away. I couldn't help saying out loud" but there are worries!" Other diners were also getting impatient and one lady commented "we could have gone to Telford and back in this time". We witnessed 12 people getting fed up and leaving without ordering and we were pretty near doing the same. When the food arrived it was hot and was enjoyable, was it worth the wait? Definitely not!

The staff are great very friendly and polite the food was very good as well had two meals in the week both meals very tasty , been there in the past and was ok but nothing special , far better now , well done ,

So me and my family are regulars here, it holds a lot of memories for me and my family so we have stayed with this place for years . It did have a decline earlier last year but it pulled it back and I’m so glad to say that the standards have gotten even better! Me and my partner love here because they have a children’s play area but also inside all the staff are soo child friendly which is what you need when you go for a meal is to feel relaxed. We normally sit at the booths as they have TVs there for the kids but unfortunately my partner had forgotten about stating we wanted one when he booked ! But no fear we was seated at a lovely table which we actually liked alot as our pushchair fitter better up there. The lady who greeted us at the start apologised she couldn’t put us in the booth ! Which I thought was lovely as wasn’t her fault at all. The lady who served us throughout the night , can’t remember her name but she had 11 kids ha… she was absolutely top notch. All the staff however are so happy to help and all very friendly and approachable. True credit to this company. Keep up the good work as see you all soon again for the big burgers haha

The worst Sunday lunch I've ever had. Very poor, cold, small portions, tough meat, flat pancake Yorkshire, paid extra for disgusting cauliflower cheese. Visited before leaving caravan site nearby, would have walked if didn't need to be away on time. Won't be visiting again, worst £40 I've ever spent.

Stopped off here on our way on holiday. It’s dog friendly. The staff were lovely and friendly. Very welcoming to the dog. I had a halloumi skewer which was great and my husband had the lunchtime mix grill. We would happily eat here again.

The oxon Saved our evening by taking a very late booking from us having been let down by the grapes . They booked 12 of us in at last minute and saved our birthday evening family meal. Thank you so much to management and staff for a great service and Chiefs for lovely food and bottle of complementary birthday bottle of wine . We ll be back .

I popped in for some lunch, expecting a simple pub lunch experience, but was so pleasantly surprised. The staff were absolutely wonderful and really looked after me; Rosie, I think her name was, was amazing - so professional, friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely excellent; I ordered a vegan kofta kebab and it was actually sublime. The flavours, texture and portion size - all 5 stars. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit, would recommend highly, and will definitely visit again.

Came as a family of 4 for boxing day. We pre booked 3 meals and added extra person over phone a couple of days before. We were seated quickly and ordered our drinks. We waited 35 min for our pre ordered starters. We also ordered a 4th starter but we had our 3 ordered starters but never received our 4th. Nobody explained that there was a technical issue when the starters were brought over to us but when the plates were taken away 20 min later. On plus the starters were very nice. We waited another 45 min for a mains. We ordered a steak which was cold as well as the chips (the server seemed quite shocked that we wanted it taken back to the kitchen). The one burger we ordered was dry and tasted like it had been left out for a long time and flavourless. The other mains were OK. We weren't asked during the meal if everything was OK so felt like we had to eat it. Puddings came quickly and were OK. When I went to pay we were asked if everything was OK we said the food wasn't the best but nothing was said or done about it. Very disappointed as this is the first time we have gone out for a boxing day meal. We won't be returning anytime soon.

Table booked for 14 people, we're left to our own devices until a member of our party went an found someone too come take our drink orders ( we had been there 20 mins) we all gave our food orders at the same time as by then we were all ravenous an knew what we wanted , food came out in bits n drabs , there was not much on the plates for the prices charged , menus were left scattered on the table , no-one came to ask was everything OK! In fact we had too go yet again to find someone too clear our table an take our dessert orders. I wouldn't mind but our total bill was £300 . Minus a £25 deposit I had paid at the time of booking plus my daughter in law had blue light discount but I still felt really let down an totally left too our own devices, we had given the staff my daughters 30th birthday cake which was supposed to be bought out at close of our meal , yet again we had too ask for the cake which we boxed up an took home , it was very deflating and disappointing for my daughter . Would not reccomend this place to eat at all ! A lot of money spent but VERY DISAPPOINTING 😞

Staying at Oxon Hall and went here for late lunch with our little westie Millie, they made her feel very welcome. Staff vet friendly and attentive. Had the breadcrumbs cauliflower and fish and chips and the half BBQ chicken combo, all very nice. The place was clean and very festive and we would definitely visit again, Merry Christmas 🤶 all

The staff are friendly enough and the food was ok but nothing special. For a Sunday lunchtime in the run-up to Christmas it was surprisingly quiet when we arrived, with literally only a few groups of other diners there - I’d read some mixed reviews and this was our first visit so wasn’t unduly surprised. We were shown to our seats and drinks orders taken and delivered reasonably promptly, by which time we were ready to order our meals from the Sunday lunch menu. These were delivered without any delay and when asked if we’d like any sauces we asked for horseradish (traditional with beef) and cranberry for the turkey; surprisingly there was “no horseradish available” and the cranberry tasted ‘odd’ so was not eaten. Minor niggles perhaps, but the meal overall gave the impression it had just been microwaved or re-heated/boiled without any particular care and attention to livening it up a little, so would not stand comparison with other Sunday lunch offerings we’ve had on previous visits to the area. Desserts were much better although a warning about hot crockery would have been a helpful reminder. Overall a rather flat, lacklustre experience which gave the impression of staff shortages in a notoriously pressured industry and somewhat subdued enthusiasm for the offering and customer interaction. That said, we've had far better experiences locally so Oxon Priory would not be top of the list for a return visit.

Annoyed to write this review after leaving a nice review before how ever i’ve been coming here regularly with my mum since the refurb , staff have been lovely food has been great. but sadly tonight as i was joined with company i was let down with one of the attitude of the chefs who was at the bar talking.. we ordered a 3 course meal off the festive menu, after a hour of waiting i went to the bar to ask how long the starters will be in a nice manner to which the chef spoke out loud and told me i quote “im on my ones” and not “my problem” with to be honest was said in an abrupt manner which i’m just disappointed… easily avoided. ruined for the rest of the staff. I’m happy to wait but explain to me in certain manner whats going on im a reasonable man instead of talking to me like in a “road man” or “ghetto manner” time and place for that . anyway just want to say the staff was all lovely just the one individual ruined it all. understand your stressed i’ve also had hard day at work i would never speak like this to my customers. sorry guys,

As a family group we went to the Oxon for a pre booked Festive three course lunch. The Oxon has been really poor for food until relatively recently. We noticed during visits to watch the rugby that there had been quite a change in the place including since then a couple of really nice meals. The food today was top quality across all three courses - unrecognisable as a chain pub meal. Service by the young staff was spot on in a friendly relaxed manner and we all commented that this was the nicest set Xmas meal we have had out in a long time - all for £21. Couldn’t have asked for any better. (It also included many more gluten free options than is normal and all served to the same standard as the other meals)

The service here is ok, staff nice and firendly. The food however was a bit of a let down. If a restaurant is advertising as steak being a main feature, you would expect it to A- Be cooked correctly and B- Be presented as advertised...
