The carvery is good value with four choices of meat and plenty of vegetables. I felt a bit intimidated as I ordered at the bar as some locals were very rowdy. One was talking to me and I am sure he was just being friendly but I couldn’t understand a word he said as he was intoxicated. The bar staff were helpful and friendly. The tablecloth was dirty although I did notice there were other clean tables that we could have moved to but felt a bit awkward doing that.

We were on our way home from North Wales on a Sunday and decided to stop off for some food as I spotted a sign for a Sunday Carvery 12-4 pm. The Hotel is situated next to the popular truck stop cafe. There was plenty of parking at the hotel. The carvery is situated in a large room at the back of the pub. You can pay by cash or by card at the bar. Adult Carvery was £6.50 each and there was a choice of a smaller plate. The carvery became very busy at around 12-30. There was a choice of 4 meats including Beef, Pork, Turkey & Lamb. There was plenty of fresh veg and sauces. I really don't have any negatives regarding our visit. It's was a really nice Carvery at a very good competitive price.

It is with a heavy heart but a full stomach that I must now say that the best breakfast for miles is here, for a mere £5.00 you get 2 quality thick cut bacon slices, 2 sausges, fried bread, egg, beans, tomato, hashbrown, mushrooms, blackpudding, toast, mug of tea/coffee. The place is not a Palace but see past the decor and you'll have good food and friendly service. The 5 stars is for the food.

Our coach company 2Ks travel celebrated our first year with a meal on Wednesday 19th October. All the tables had lovely white cloths on and we brought balloons and banners with us. I00 of us sat down to a really lovely carvery and given the number we were all served in 45minutes. The Carvery served three delicious meats and a fine selection of vegetables beautifully cooked and quickly served so it remained piping hot. The staff were friendly very pleasant and helpful. In short everyone had a great time and we all said we would certainly be happy to come again and enjoy another carvery Thanks to everyone for making it a great day

Stopped off for a drink on the way home as the outside has loads of character, inside was well overdue for a refurbish. We wandered out side to the 'beer garden' to the rear which was along the same lines, gas cannisters and 3 old wooden trestle tables seem to be the only features worth a mention. Had to move several times to get a good photo with a decent background! Somebody please buy it and spent half a million on it! It's in a prime location for the traveller and could be the centrepiece of the area.

Old building and you have to walk through the bar to get to the dining room. This is fine, as you can get your drinks on the way. Dining room is a little tired looking and in need of complete re-decoration. However, tables and seating are clean and very tidy. Carvery is an absolute delight though, plenty of it, served with friendliness and care. Everything is as hot as a good roast dinner is meant to be and vegetables vary which is nice when returning. Usually plenty of room on tables, but does get tremendously busy (of course, it's lovely!) at lunchtimes on a Sunday. Overall, a lovely relaxing, family friendly place to have a fabulous roast dinner! We return many times.

I was in the area and wanted something to eat before traveling home, this was the closest to my location so went. First impression from outside was that it was a nice building, shame inside let it down. It was really run down, the room was uninviting and it didn't feel clean. The menus were sticky which is a big no, no for me. We were told they were only serving sandwiches at the time which wasn't really what we wanted so we left. The place needs a upgrade, the building is lovely and it has potential.

Our family called in for a carvery on Sunday. What good value for money !! four meats to choose from lots of vegetables, parsnips, yorkshire puddings, stuffing balls. Staff all very helpful yes the place is not modern but is clean and tidy and excellent value for money. I would rather have good food at a good price than a really modern place at silly money. The place was full so I would say lots of other people feel the same

As part of an organised coach trip to Chester Races we stopped by on Saturday 16th for breakfast en-route to the races. The place was like stepping back in time. The bar staff were quick and the value was good. The restaurant area very dated but again the staff were on top on things and our coach party were served and seated quickly and the food of average standard. The place is massive and in need to bringing into the 21st century. Easy parking and good access but - with investment - the place good become a place to visit again and again. Well done to the manager and staff though - they did us proud.....

My Husband & i visited thisHotel/pub yesterday in the hope of booking two double rooms for 21st sept 2013. on entering we could see how shabby everything was but continued to ask about the rooms. we were shown to a chalet round the side and on entering immediately could smell the damp in the room. (definatly not very encouraging.) Back in the main foyer we ordered two coffees and sat in a dowdy room. Before leaving, very disappointed, we used the ladies and gents cloakrooms only to find they were well below a hygenic standard. One of the ladies loos had no top to the cystern and had a plastic bag taped onto it. the toilet roll holders were incomplete and the toilet rolls were just pushed on to the fitting that was left on the wall so that when you went to take some paper the whole roll just fell off onto the floor. on our way out we looked in the dining room and were not impressed at all as none of the tablecloths had been ironed . The whole place needs a facelift and a good inspection by health and safety!! I could not recommend the Raven to anyone. Needless to say we DID NOT BOOK IN.

This is a regular stopping place, with a location on the "Prees", A41 Roundabout. Journeying back from the Midlands, just had to call in again. Only had Coffee and Snack, which we both enjoyed, cooked fresh, and served with a smile, Friendly Locals and a well attended bar!, with ample parking.

A friend, my partner and I were heading back to Shrewsbury from Beeston Castle on a lovely autumn day and decided to stop at this pub after my friend reminded us that it was on the way home. The Raven Hotel stands in a rather unfortunate position against the A49 dual carriageway south of Whitchurch, Shropshire on what was presumably the old road before the bigger one was built. The building itself is a black and white styled inn and looks pretty big from the outside but the car-park has seen better days and has some rather large potholes! We went inside and the bar is situated in a rather large room lacking in any kind of atmosphere with a distinct lack of direction as to where to sit or order food from. We looked around and on the left was another room which looked more like the restaurant and this was also where the carvery was situated. Now this is where things were a bit confusing as the order is to collect food first and then pay afterwards... but only cash at this till, which wasn't made very clear. The food looked and smelt great though with 4 meats to choose from but the vegetables were a little over-cooked and the carrots were a bit black. It is not hard to cook carrots and they don't have to be killed off in boiling water. Tthe stuffing balls and yorkshire puds were very 'ready-made aunt bessie' but aside from that there was lots of choice to put on the plate. The staff were friendly enough at the till when we told them we only had our debit cards and they directed us towards the bar in the other room but to leave our now plated up food by the cash desk!So off to the bar to buy drinks and pay for the carvery on a debit card; again the staff being friendly enough but i presume they normally only get locals in who 'know the drill' as there was quite a lot of surprise aimed at us. I know parts of Shropshire are a bit behind the times but debit cards have been around for some time now so stop presuming that everyone buying food is going to be carrying round lots of cash with them. Finally time for food and we took our meals to the table which was unfortunately very grubby with ripped table cloth, dirt on the place mats and ripped seat covers. The food was pretty good and the meat was cooked just right - Not overdone and full of flavour with a delicious gravy to compliment with just the right level of salt. I have to say the roast potatoes were lovely and the major let down was the overcooked vegetables and round stuffing balls. We chose not to have a pudding as carvery meals can be extremely filling.. I'm a bit of a pile the plate high kind of person. But my belly was very satisfied and I left nice and full ready for the rest of the day.On the whole I think the Raven really needs a refurbishment and furniture being replaced. The lack of any kind of directions to the carvery along with the lack of a menu or indeed card processing equipment AFTER plating up is not good enough. I really think that this pub is aimed at locals who know what to expect but this is a shame as the position on the busy A49/A41 beside a truck stop could be a potential money winner if the place was made more attractive. The carvery was good but the interiors were shabby in the restaurant and other pubs do the 2 for £10 on sunday lunch within a much brighter and more welcoming atmosphere. The staff were nice enough though so that's not a knock at them. I probably wouldn't recommend families here but if your looking for a quick stop on a sunday then its good enough for a carvery.
