Humphreys Fish Shop in Gravesham

Bought two large cod and one large portion of chips. Nice fish, cooked fresh, but batter somewhat undercooked. Chips far too large (enough for four or more) and not very hot. Note - It is now McCoy's Fish Bar and not Humphrey's.

Hottest fish and chips I've had in years but most important able serve with a smile and it was a fair price

This is one of the best chips shops around, having said that, I would always order your fish to be cooked there and then because if its been sitting in the cabinet for an hour then it just isn't as good, then only time I've been disappointed is when I took home fish that had already been cooked.

Ordered a delivery. Arrived on time. Fish was flat and swimming in oil 😩 There was nothing exciting to mention about the chips. Very expensive for a terrible meal. What a shame!

Why is it when visiting this shop u have to wait for the fish to be cooked ? Every time is the same u have to wait what’s the point of having a take away when u have to wait u might as well be sitting in not impressed sorry

Visited here many times as the fish and chips are of excellent quality but the girl behind the counter is arrogant and rude..

This was my first visit to Humphreys under the new ownership and I was very disappointed indeed. I went there at approximately 6 pm and ordered cod and chips. The cod was very thin in depth, the flesh dry, too much batter was used and was warm, not hot. The chips were very dry, were warm, not hot, and had obviously been sitting around for a good while. When the previous owners were there the fish was thick, the batter thinner and the chips always piping hot and fresh. Humphreys used to be the best fish and chip shop for miles but, unfortunately, it is no longer. Poor to very average are the words I would use and certainly not worth making the trip regularly to frequent the premises. The price was as high as the previous owners I noticed (which I did not mind paying due to the quality of their food) but this cod and chips was certainly not worth it. W

I have been using Humphreys at Camer corner for 15 years. Andy and his wife built up a good business on supplying great food. The new owners have continued in the same way, the fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked, the chips are also just right, not greasy and slimy like other shops but perfectly firm and a joy to eat. Why take a chance else where when you can go to Humphreys and know that every time you buy their fish and chips, you are getting top quality at a very competitive price. Well done to all the new team, see you again soon.

Had fish and chips from here and the fish was really fresh and well cooked. The chips were ok but not as good as the fish.

This is a jolly local take-away which sells some of the best (fresh, moist) cod we have ever had. The service is fast and friendly, the premises are spotless and the food isjust perfect for a hungry person on the go...

Visit Humphreys Fish Shop regularly and can honestly say have never had a bad meal. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Never been here before but popped in as was on the way to my friends and was pleasantly surprised. Didn’t have to wait for ages, food tasted fresh and was a huge portion for price. Will definetly be coming back.... the chips were amazing and would definitely reccommend the battered sausage as didn’t taste greasy or dry!

I have been to Humphries many many times over the years and have always enjoyed the food. I recently heard it was being taking over by a new owner but that didn’t stop me from visiting to get the family’s weekly takeaway. Needless to say the food is still TOP quality and perhaps even better than before. I was pleasantly surprised considering that its changed hands and my nan who was visiting at the time even said its the best fish and chips she’s ever had (and she moans about everything). The shape of the fish is different as one other people have mentioned but to be fair It didnt bother me as long as it tastes good, and i couldn’t fault it. I think its difficult to implicate change when people like to stick to what they know but thumbs up from me. Il be remaining a loyal customer. Thanks guys.

I’ve been coming to Humphries of meopham for years and years. Always had delicious food, and fabulous service and staff. (Andy, Sally and Chloe). I was so shocked and disappointed when I realised that they no longer own the shop. I thought I’d still continue to buy my fish and chips from here. However, sadly I will not be returning after two bad portions of food, on different occasions from the new owners. I could tell the food wasn’t fresh - probably left over from the day before. It’s very sad, but unfortunately the new ownership doesn’t live up to what it used to be and I won’t be returning to Humphries. Never mind, I am sure I’ll find somewhere else to buy my chips!! (Hopefully)

I popped up to our local fish and chip shop not knowing it had changed ownership. Pleasant staff but what I purchased was another story !! A perfectly rectangular piece of fish covered in a thin manufactured batter that was no different to a supermarket boxed piece of fish. The chips were dry and boring. To summarise I won’t be returning. I will be going the extra distance to enjoy traditional fish and chips where you see the proper fillet of fish dipped in the batter served with nice traditional fish shop chips.

Popped into Meopham to visit friends and whilst I was there decided to try the local Fish and Chip shop. The fish was succulent and the chips were lovely. Staff were friendly and chatty. Will definitely be revisiting again.

This venue has now changed hands, and I think it's only right to re-review. Unfortunately, it's for the worse generally. I'd still use it for Fish and Chips, but nothing like when it was owned by the Humphries family. (Will soon rebrand no doubt, McCoys!) The chips are fine, not as good, but fine. Portion size has increased. Fish is really nothing like as good as it was. I used to relish one of the large pieces of fish, but as the previous reviewer stated, now its a long thin piece of fish, rather lacking in comparison.

From the outside the fish and chip shop looks fine, with a typical menu on offer. The staff were pleasant and the place was clean. Cash only. The fish was cooked fresh but was thin and had square corners so was clearly a manufactured product. Annoyingly, the chips were fatty and limp, begging the question - can nobody in Britain cook chips anymore? Overall, the dish was expensive and disappointing.

Have been to this fish and chip shop many times. The staff are pleasant and friendly and the food is very good. My only negative is that...I always have haddock and its freshly cooked. That fine but I always think it's cooked for too long. I'm always told it will be about ten minutes. Fish really only takes about 4/5 (my opinion) so I think it's always a bit dry. Puts me off really but then again it happens in most of the chippies I go in, so perhaps it's just me.

Great fish and chips takeaway this place, always busy which speaks volumes as far as I’m concerned. Always nice and fresh and very tasty. Friendly staff that work very hard in a hot environment. Try the scampi it’s delicious. No complaints from us at all.

This is not a eat in place but you definitely can expect a great meal, chips are amazing and the pies are perfect. Cod and batter, perfection!

Always use this great little Fish n Chip Shop when in the area. Food always fresh cooked and served by pleasant English staff. My favourite fish and chip shop.

This is by far the best fish and chip shop around. The fish has melt in the mouth batter and the chips cooked to perfection, hot and moist inside.

As yet, we have never found a Fish and Chip shop anywhere on the coast that is as good as this one. It has the tastiest chips I have ever tasted. I don't know what they fry them in but it doesn't get better than this. They also do Gluten Free on Mondays, an option of Kids fish and chips too. Great stuff! :)

Best take away fish and chips ever, large portions and very friendly service. Many other take away choices available.

Tenía que escribir esto después de leer la primera crítica pobre Viejo Harry's jamás analfabeta ta. Parece que tiene una agenda y temas. Nos pedidos rock, cod, nuggets de pollo, y dos grandes porciones saveloy de fichas entre nosotros cuatro. Todas comentábamos lo agradable y fresca que era y aún no logramos polaco de todos los chips de entre nosotros. Sin duda volveremos.

Tbh no es el mejor lugar para comer y las porciones son tan estrechas, tan ajustadas como un agujero para ser honesto! Pero eso no me importa es estar humprys wile una vida agradable, conducir coches de lujo bajo pago personal y preguntar 1. 90 por una mano llena de patatas fritas el estrecho snob

Me pasó por la comida de la pesca es muy caro la calidad no es excelente.

After a long, hard days work, we'd decided to get some fish and chips. We ordered 2 large cod and chips (we were hoping to serve 4 of us) - I was very disappointed - the fish size was ok, but the chip portion was tiny - I consider that a small portion. Can't even imagine what small would be - 5 chips??? We now travel to valley drive - only a 5 minute journey to get fantastic portions!

Have been told by many friends that their fish and chip shop is the best, but they are all wrong because Humphreys is the best. Have been using it for years and have never had a bad meal.

Weve had fish & Chips from Humphreys lots of times as we don't live far from them. Never had a bad meal here. But quickly learned not to go between 6pm to 7.30 on Fridays as the queue is out of the shop and part way down the parade of shops, that must say something ! At least you can check out the deals at the travel agent whilst waiting.

This is our regular stop for a chippy tea. Great fried fish, tasty chips, crispy battered sausages and succulent scampi!!Yes you may have to cue and then wait for it to be cooked fresh but it's worth it.Not in Gravesend though, it's in Meopham on the Wrotham Road.

You can always tell a good food outlet by the amount of people waiting. Everything cooked to perfection as always.
