We came here as a group of 6. The waitress was really nice , and the food was amazing. Not big portions but more than enough. I had beef casserole which was lovely , the steak looked good as well. It had such a nice atmosphere and I’ll definitely be back.

We absolutely loved every minute of our time at Howies. We arrived a bit early for our reservation (highly recommended as it is a very busy restaurant) and had a chance to talk with the gentleman serving drinks. He gave terrific suggestions for whiskey and we thoroughly enjoyed both. I was told to try Cullen Skink and I am so glad that I did. Such a treat! It's a creamy chowder with smoked haddock, potatoes and leeks. My husband had the Duo of Scottish beetroot roasted and pickled spiced cardamom. It was bursting with flavor! For our main dish, I had the salmon special and my husband had the hake. Both were cooked perfectly and had great flavor profiles. We were too full for dessert, but a great selection of sweet treats is offered. Everyone was very helpful and attentive. Great experience!

Fomos em uma segunda-feira à noite, por indicação do Staff do hotel que estávamos hospedados. Quando chegamos, estava bem cheio, e eles tinham acabado de mandar um grupo de 5 pessoas embora por não terem mais lugar e por estarem trabalhando com Reservas. Mesmo assim fui até o balcão e perguntei se havia uma mesa para 2, mesmo não tendo feito reserva. O atendente prontamente nos atendeu com muito entusiasmo e buscou nas listas de reservas se havia algo, e ele realmente achou uma mesa de 2 lugares vaga para mim e minha esposa, na qual poderíamos ficar por até 1h30 até a próxima reserva. Fomos muito bem atendidos por uma garçonete que ofereceu as melhores sugestões da Casa, a comida chegou rapidamente e com um ótimo preparo e todo o Staff trabalha com muita agilidade e praticidade. A comida estava maravilhosa, pedimos um Steak Ribeye e um pescado do dia (que era salmão), ambos bem preparados e deliciosos. Foi uma ótima experiência na Rua Victoria, e uma ótima experiência com os residentes da Cidade de Edimburgo.

When my friend booked Howies for lunch he was unaware of a 2 hour table time. When we arrived at Howies we were shown to our table and the 2 hour table time was certainly not mentioned. We were given menus and then we waited and waited - then the waiter came and took our drinks order, which was a bottle of wine - the waiter seemed very nice and affable. Then we waited and waited and then after maybe 40 minutes our order was taken - we were fine with this as we were enjoying the craic. The starter arrived and it was lovely. The main arrived and was good. The same waiter came and asked if we would like a dessert and no mention of being under pressure for the table was mentioned - we ordered a dessert. The dessert came and all of a sudden the pressure came on for the table - the waiter was unpleasant and rude. We needed the toilet and came back, I met the waiter and asked for the bill to be told that it was on the table waiting to be paid. We were not offered the option to have coffee or any further drinks anywhere else in the restaurant! Being annoyed by this turn of events we challenged the waiter and told him of our disappointment at being treated in this poor manner - when we felt that they caused the delay in the first instance - 40 mins to take a food order - he seemed to think we were wrong. At this stage there was still nobody at our table and still nobody waiting to take the table. I have this to say, the paying customer is always king and staff would do well to remember this. I am a regular diner in Edinburgh and will be taking my custom elsewhere going forwards.

Muy mal. La primera vez estuvo bien, y reservamos para una segunda. Con la segunda, nos negaron que tuviéramos reserva y nos trataron tremendamente mal y con cero profesionalidad. Van de sobrados, pero falla por parte de la misma dueña, una prepotente y maleducada. No volveremos jamás. Mala y desagradable experiencia.

Great for a quick bite! Tried this place after seeing it on Somebody Feed Phil and it's as good as Phil said. The pulled pork/hog roast is a blank canvas for you to add sauces, so go for something with lots of flavour like their homemade BBQ sauce (the meat is not BBQ flavoured by itself) or the sage stuffing and apple sauce. I got the 'Oink' size which looked small but was just right and filling. I'd advise going to the cannongate branch instead of this one as it's got much more seating and was much less busy when I went. That said the queue goes down quickly because staff work very efficiently in spite of the queues/language barriers/ etc (Hats off to them!). I recommend adding haggis and extra pork cracklings, they're great!

Had read some of the reviews so thought we would check it out. Turned up without a reservation, the place was very busy, the staff were amazing and could really see them working hard to fit us in. The said we could have a table but only if we could leave after an hour or so, as they had a large party booked in. A lovely restaurant filled with great decor, we had the casserole of the day. Beef, reading the reviews I think it may always be beef !!!! Very very tasty, and well complimented with a very nice glass of house red. Staff very friendly and chatty. We really didn’t feel rushed at all, very good price for some good tasty dishes.

This restaurant is a gem. This was our 1st visit and won’t be our last. We tried the 2 course lunch menu and everything we ate was very tasty and cooked superbly. The staff were very attentive and special mention to our Hungarian waitress who was a credit to your restaurant. We will be back when we visit Edinburgh again .

Come to Oink for the experience. Spoiled by American barbecue, the pulled pork at Oink was just alright. It's a bit dry and bland, so you want the sauce they offer. But the experience of eating the hot sandwich while enjoying the sights on the Royal Mile was a joy. Kudos to the friendly staff. The long line outside in the cold moved rather fast and the staff always greet you with a warm smile.

It is a good option for a quick bite. We got the medium size (oink), and it had a good portion of meat. But, it was a bit dry, and it had very little sauce. The crackling on top of the sandwich was really good and it was worth getting extra ones (0.5 pounds extra).

We went to this place recently based on rave reviews. Four of us got sandwiches and none of us really liked them. They were so mushy. The bread, meat, sauce, and strange stuffing mix or haggis they put on it created a mushy mess. They really did not have a lot of flavor other than the strong sage from the stuffing and the chosen sauce. The staff was very helpful but the food was just not good, lacking flavor and the texture was unappetizing.

We ordered three sandwiches - two medium-sized and one large - and the difference between the portions was noticeably noticeable, making the large option perfect for the hungriest. Despite the venue's popularity, the service was incredibly fast. Although often crowded, with a queue that testifies to the quality of the offer, our wait was minimal. Given the limited possibility of sitting inside, we opted to eat our sandwiches at Grassmarket, not far away, an experience that added a touch of charm to the entire meal. The porchetta, as mentioned, was the true protagonist of the sandwich. Even in the presence of other ingredients, its flavor remained prominent, without being overpowered, demonstrating the restaurant's ability to balance flavors excellently. However, a small note goes to the bread: although it was of good quality, its too soft texture, once soaked in toppings, slightly reduced my appreciation of the sandwich. A slightly crispier, tarter bread would definitely have elevated the experience further. Me and the wife grabbed 2 sandwiches after seeing it on ‘Somebody Feed Phil’. We both opted for the Oink (medium) and then chose different fillings and sauces. Burgers were REALLY good, however the venue itself is incredibly small and due to the queue going into the seating area it’s almost impossible to actually sit down. Would still absolutely recommend anyone go here. Pork was cooked perfectly and the crackling was sublime.

This is a place I visited after being featured on a TV program. I remember Jung Hae-in enjoying it very much, but not me. First of all, it is a taste that is likely to be unpalatable to Koreans. If you go to Edinburgh, you have a must with the pork sandwich that Oink sells: it is the most representative of the gastronomy of this incredible city. The place is very visually striking and the aroma of roast pork fills the entire emblematic Victoria Street; It doesn't have much space inside, just a few small tables, it is mainly made for the office, but you eat your sandwich in the surroundings. There is always a line of people to buy, but don't be fooled, because even if it is long, inside they have a very agile billing system that allows for quick and comfortable circulation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Shisheng Food. I have never tried this kind of meat food, made in the way of burgers, but the meat scraps are full of gravy and very delicious. When you eat it, you don’t just eat the meat, you eat the whole broth and meat scraps, and It's not a whole piece of meat, the meat is very soft, delicious and has a soupy feel. It is a highly recommended food in Edinburgh.

Es un lugar para encargar comida para llevar mayormente, aunque dispone de algunas plazas de consumo en el local. Nosotros tuvimos la suerte de conseguir la única mesa del local (lo otro son banquitos como la barra de un bar). Así que como restaurante para comer allí, no esperes un espacio amplio, pero repito, que está pensado para llevar, así que todo perfecto. Pedimos el “bocata” típico, tamaño medio de 3 posibilidades y la verdad que estaba muy bien. Hay una opción de menú donde entra bocata+papas+bebida, que es la que adquirimos, y sin pegas. La carne está buenísima y ves en todo momento de donde cogen la carne y salsas. Cada día preparan la carne de cerdo para los menús y no se enfría ni un grado. A nosotros nos lo recomendaron y yo lo recomiendo 100%.

Restaurante predominantemente de take-away ubicado en la Victoria street. Habitualmente hay que hacer cola, pero atienden muy rápido (a la 13.30h la cola era de unos 10-15 minutos). Ofrece únicamente hamburguesas de carne deshilachada de cerdo (pulled pork) con opción a elegir entre 3 tamaños (el estándar es el "oink") y el tipo de pan (white or brown). De forma opcional, se puede añadir un relleno de cebolla y/o de haggies (30p cada relleno) y una salsa de manzana, mayo, queso chili, jamón chili (30p cada salsa). Tienen la opción de añadir extra-crackling por 50p, pero hoy no tenían. La hamburguesa estaba muy buena, aunque sin salsa queda bastante menos sabrosa a mi parecer. Como curiosidad, tienen el cerdo que utilizan para hacer las hamburguesas expuesto en el escaparate, y a lo largo del día se va viendo como va menguando desde las patas traseras hasta la cabeza. Tiene su cosa :)

Imprescindible probarlo en Edimburgo! Tienes 3 tamaños de pan a elegir, el mediano es el ideal. Es un pan ligero, tipo hamburguesa. Te dan opción de elegirlo blanco o integral. Sin duda el blanco está buenísimo, y es el clásico. Tienes dos opciones de relleno: nosotros cogimos uno que estaba hecho con especias y cebolla. Después añades salsa: nosotros elegimos la de mostaza. Hay barbacoa pero mataba el sabor totalmente. Está bien por el precio que tiene. Me da la sensación de que el Oink de esta calle es el más lleno, igual los otros dos están más vacíos. Puedes comer allí pero el espacio es mínimo, así que tienes que tener mucha suerte. Contad con comerlo por la calle.

I went with the medium size with sage & onion stuffing and the BBQ sauce. Not sure what the fuss is about I would say 3 out of 5, the food is super average but not bad for the price. I must add that the roll was nice and fresh, the pork was a bit mushy and the sauce was uneven in the roll which gave a bit of an inconsistent flavour experience. The roll could probably benefit from some fresh ingredients like lettuce or something.

Los bocadillos están muy buenos, tienen varios tipos de salsa y varios complementos para acompañar si lo quiere hacer menú, el precio es muy asequible. Este local de oink si que tiene muy poco espacio para comer allí, es más para take away.

Grabbed a takeaway from the famous hog roll spot in Edinburgh, Oink! Specializing in hog roast (or pulled pork) rolls, Oink lets you customize your sandwich. The pulled pork is the real deal—they literally pull it right in front of you. We got a sandwich to enjoy on the train, and the star of the show was the crackling, the crispy pork skin on top. My only wish? More kick in the chili cheese sauce—I couldn't really taste the spiciness! 🤣

Oink is a must-try on Victoria street. I commend a place that does one thing exceptionally well and these pulled pork sandwiches are definitely it. The prices are cheap for the area and the quality is high. I loved all of the different options available for the sauce and spread.
