Excellent food and service! Our server, Logan, really went above and beyond in giving us very helpful advice about the area. The food was excellent and priced really well and had large portions.

Friendly staff, great food. Can be really busy during rugby weekends, but still worth a visit.

When we're traveling we usually try to go several different places for our meals. We ended up at this bar and kitchen for breakfast many times during a week visit. The full Scottish breakfast was brilliant. The staff, Alice and Logan, were so kind and helpful. The setting was perfectly delightful with doors open to the pavement and the sun streaming in. This place was only a block and a bit from our hotel, and was just overall lovely.

Excellent food and Logan offered exceptional service. Give this man a raise!

Good selection of beers gins and whiskies. Has downstairs area available. Didn’t try the food. One small criticism. I asked the bar staff to use less cola in my bourbon but they filled the glass right up with coke on a couple of occasions which diluted the flavour of the whiskey.

This place is gorgeous and warm, perfect to book for a birthday or engagement party! Also food is delish (I had the haggis spring rolls 🤤), thank you ! We'll be back for sure !!

Food is good, but expensive as the big breakfast is £13.50 and it does not include coffee which is another £3 so that makes it expensive. The wait is very long and each plate was missing some pieces of food

Head bar person arrogant, lofty and bullying to 2 ladies approaching their seventies an Sunday March afternoon/evening 5 March 2pm to7pm. Would he have adopted that attitude to his Granny or tolerated it to his Granny? Don't think so.

Meeting up with friends for Drinks and Lunch, been to a couple of places and passed here at Lunchtime, glad we dropped in. Friendly bar staff, quickly provided drinks and menus. Great selection, and the food when it came looked good and was really tasty. Good value for money. When we were there they had an open jamming session, 4 guys, playing great songs and entertaining us, we came for the food and stayed for the music.

Xmas meal was poor. 3 hours to serve up 3 courses and the dessert only arrived at the 3 hour mark. Only one member of staff at the end of the evening who was our waiter and also server at the bar. Felt really sorry for her.

It is a nice place with good food. The staff were extremely helpful and polite when enquiries about vegan or eggless food was made. I hope to see more eggless vegetarian food in the menu but all in all the place had wonderful ambience ! Would visit here again !

Had a fabby night out there with a group of colleagues who all agreed that the place was a true find. Food was excellent and the prices are fair. Can't fault the staff as they were polite and attentive. We will be visiting again soon.

Last week it was 5 stars this week it was 1. An average of 3. Asked for a big breakfast got what they wanted to give us and when I complained gave some extras but still not what was ordered. Challenged the server to be told I had what I asked for. This was not what I ordered. Poor customer service and unperturbed when I stated we would not be back. Word of mouth is a great advertisement or negative.

My wife and I had booked a Chinese meal on the 28th September and were looking for somewhere to have some drinks prior to the meal and my wife spotted the Mercat opposite the Chinese which was absolutely perfect for us. We ordered a Cider and a Peroni and the barmaid Stacey told us to find a table and she would bring the drinks over to us. Whilst enjoying our drinks we kept seeing lovely meals being taken to vsrious tables and they all looked exceptional, very well presented and you could clearly see that everyone was really enjoying them and the lovely background music being played. We both agreed that we would return on the followimg evening and try the food as it really looked too good to miss and we were certainly not disappointed. After a couple of drinks each we both decided to go for the fish and chips and we both agreed that it was the nicest fish and chips we had had for years, everything very fresh and so tasty. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Sauvignon blanc with the meal and my wife chose the cheese platter with olives, girkin and biscuits and I chose the icecream for our sweets, absolutely perfect. Unfortunately the lovely Stacey was not working on the evening but we did have the lovely Scott, they are a super team, so efficient, friendly, courteous and obliging. Since returning home we have never stopped talking about this wonderful evening, we both loved Edinburgh and this restaurant really was the icing on the cake. We are already talking about returning to the City and returning to this beautiful restaurant, "what a find!". Well done to you all and thankyou!

Great menu, service and food. We visited for brunch, a good selection of items to choose from and somethinga bit different to other menus. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is I felt it looked a bit run down. I would return though.

Tasty food, big servings and very nice staff. We went there for breakfast (Scottish and Vegan Scottish, both delicious) as well as for dinner (huge plate of fries with cheddar topping and superb cullen skink). Definitely recommend to everyone!

Lovely little restaurant. We had the burgers, they were delicious! The true gem of this place though was our server Scott! He was so nice and personable! He, bless his heart, was the only waiter on. He worked his heart out making sure everyone was being served and followed up on. I give Scott 10 stars for his service! And yes Scott, you are a Glamazon!!

Disgusted! I went with my brother to the Mercat Bar on the 27th May 2022 to have a look at their function room for a joint 70th and 80th birthday party. Upon viewing the room we decided that it was right for our party so I called that night and booked for 10th September 2022. I didn’t receive any confirmation so I called the following week to check it had been booked, the girl confirmed my name and said it was in the diary so all good. I asked for some info etc on the buffet she advised me that would be sent out but never arrived so I called again the following week to check all was good but got told their booking system was down but they would be in touch. Fast forward to today (25th July) I went in to the bar to pay for the buffet to be told there is no booking for me! I sat with the manager and told her all of the above but they had no details at all of my booking plus the function room was now booked for that date - I’m furious with the way I have been treated and misled due to the Mercat Bar’s incompetence to place a simple booking in a diary. We now have no venue for a party as all places are fully booked. Will not be back, even for a drink.

Booked and went for meal. Long wait and place quiet. Inexperienced staff who where trying their best so not blaming them. Lot of mix ups when food did come.

Returning to the Mercat after the pandemic has been a joy. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We have taken visitors for breakfast and they love the Scottish breakfast. We have also had main meals there and they are generous servings and very tasty....

Went for brunch, the place was empty when we arrived, but it took over five minutes for a menu to be brought to our table. Slightly slow service aside, the food was excellent - I highly recommend the Black Pudding pancakes, they were really delicious.

Tried haggis for the first time here and was really impressed, but the big recommendation was the brie and cranberry burger! Cranberry sauce, brie, caramalized onions, bacon....o had to eat this burger with a fork and knife! Unbelievably delicious!
