I must say I was extremely disappointed by the Pumpkin Festival this year. There was no ghost train and no paintball shooting as advertised on the website, certainly not that either of us could see. The access to the bale trail was unavailable due to the weather, which is obviously out with their control, however, the “haunted maze” provided in its place was not, in my opinion, a suitable replacement. It was certainly not age appropriate for 2 one year olds. We ate in the restaurant afterwards and had to wait at least 20 minutes for one meal for the babies which was, again, a disappointment. It wasn’t particularly busy either. It is a shame really as we’ve always done the pumpkin picking at Craigies but it feels like it has gone downhill fast and we’ll be looking to go elsewhere next year. Other places seem to offer more for your money but I stupidly stuck with Craigie’s and wish I hadn’t. Basically everything at Craigie’s is a chargeable extra, or it certainly feels that way. I sent them an email with my feedback as I received an auto-request to provide feedback to them as I always prefer to engage directly with a business than post a negative review. To date, they haven’t given me even the courtesy of a response. Charming. What used to be a family-friendly, hot on customer service establishment appears to have become greedy and a money-making enterprise. I nearly died when I saw the cost of the Santa experiences this year. I’ll be going elsewhere for that too. What a let down Craigie’s.

This was our 3rd year visiting for the pumpkin picking and sadly we left feeling disappointed. Last year was great with the poly tunnels themed and games to play. This year we left feeling like it had changed too much. Too many extras to pay for while on the patch that I'm not sure why we even had to pay for a ticket to visit. I'd rather pay a bit extra for the ticket price and have activities included. Not a bad experience but not the best either.

The farm itself is lovely, but the deli has rude staff that run it very rigidly. The areas are inflexibly delimited, and even if you buy their (disgusting) coffee that took 20 minutes to get ready, they will not heat your quiche for your 1 year old and force you to go eat it cold outside. They even have the cheek to tell you "you've been told this" with a self-important smile. They probably charge twice the amount to sit inside. When you buy a quiche in a bakery, they heat for you even if you take it away. Why not in a fancy overpriced deli? Why ruin a lovely place with inflexible service and contemptuous, self-righteous people?

Disappointing experience compared to last year! Firstly of all the cafe was so busy, clearly not enough staff to handle the volume of customers. We waited 5 minutes to be acknowledged and asked if we needed a seat, then told it was a long wait time for food so decided not to eat there. Disappointing as the service and food was amazing last time we visited. We then went pumpkin picking, half the pumpkins were mouldy on the field, not a great impression. The pumpkins were a ridiculous price, £17 for 3 x medium pumpkins, we couldn’t even use the price our tickers against the pumpkin price due to an event we didn’t even want to visit, which was for the kids, we are two young adults. Ohh and to top it off the highlands cows weren’t there like the previous year. We be finding another place to go pumpkin picking and brunching next year.

This is a special and attractive place near Edinburgh. Close. Rural attractions and crops straight from the field and the opportunity to meet animals (entrance to the farm with children). You can eat lunch or something quick. I recommend lamb with flatbread and salads - photo. The price is only 11 pounds and it will fill you up for a few hours. You can buy rural products from A to Z in a stationary store. It is worth spending a few hours in the rural world. We will come back here.

The pumpkin festival tickets only cover entry to the “festival” which is essentially just a few carved pumpkins and a paintball area charged at an additional £4 per person. The “pumpkin picking” is more pumpkin picking-up as the pumpkins have simply been placed on a field covered in straw rather than being grown in the field. So you’re really just picking pumpkins up rather than harvesting them off of a plant.. The pumpkins also aren’t covered by the tickets so expect an additional cost there. It cost us £15 for three pumpkins, which isn’t good value. The cafes pretty good though!

Went for something to eat. Firstly, it was blinking hot. The heating was on full and it was just a bit too hot - thought about sitting outside. Maybe we timed it badly - but lunch service was ending. I got a badly made beef and relish sandwich for £10.50. - too much relish, very little beef - cut in half with a spoon. I had a diet Pepsi and was given a cheap plastic tumbler. The ingredients were of good quality. It wasn't inedible, it wasn't awful - it was just sad. The staff were okay. The manager was pleasant she offered me another but I'd accepted that the sandwich was what it was. There was just no joy.... The view and goats were good though.

I used to come here as a child all the time and I have the best memories! Since getting married this year, I wanted to visit with my husband to show him and make new memories together.... I phoned ahead to ask if we could bring our dog, and I was told yes, as long as I kept him on a lead. No other specifics were mentioned to me on the phone by this member of staff. We arrived and walked through the main entrance, it was so nice seeing the place all these years later and how different it is now. Then I was met with this woman who very aggressively told me I had to leave, her tone was extremely rude, and she made me feel like I'd done something terrible by bringing our dog. I was not told prior that he wasn't allowed in the main building, I was only told that it was okay to have him there as long as he was on a lead. I said this to her and she replied saying " I'm not sure who told you that..." So I left with our dog and told my husband to stay and have a look around the shop as we had come all this way. I was directed outside to a dog area, which was not maintained well, I literally just sat there waiting on my husband. I was made to feel so unwelcome and excluded from the farm. We ended up just leaving, and I was extremely disappointed and unimpressed. Such a shame as they claim to be a dog friendly place, but you are literally only allowed to sit in this horrible outside part that has a view out to the car park.... Wouldn't recommend if you are wanting a nice place to take your dog.

Visited Craigie's today and was so disappointed with the service received. Had to ask for our order to be taken. Food came but had to ask for our drinks as had just about finished our food. Then had to ask to order cakes. Of which most were apparently finished, at the back of 1pm? Waitress came back advising there was actually one piece of carrot cake left so my husband said he would have it. Sat waiting and again we had to ask for our cakes....came but no carrot cake and victoria sponge instead! Waiter took it away and some time later came back with the carrot cake advising it had just come from the bakery. There was a lot of staff around just not sure what they were doing. Tables were not getting cleared and when they were the water from plastic cups, (why using plastic?) was poured back into the bottle - lets hope the bottles are washed before being re filled(!) Also never saw any tables being wiped between customers. Food was not anything special so will not be rushing back for lunch.

We have allergies hence got food from home. However the staff kept on coming to the table multiple times, were loud and used a very bad tone to mention that outside food is not allowed. Intention seems to humiliate us in front of other people. Have been to the farm multiple times and always had a good time however will not be back. As families come to the farm there should be a designated picnic area so families having allergies or want to cater to dietary requirements can get their own food. Note: my son is pending ASD assessment and has a very restricted diet. Update: 4th Aug. Just to clarify we did order food from the café and had additional food from home for specific dietary requirements. Staff never mentioned that a picnic area was available. If they would then we would have happily moved. And we didn't sit inside the restaurant it was outside in the play area. The key point is that staff need to have courtesy and empathy!

The fruit and veg picking is a great trip out for families, fruit is lovely quality and you get told where the best places to pick are. It’s also educational for young kids who may not yet know how their favourite fruits grow and ripen. The staff are always friendly too. The cafe has nice food and drink, but I always find we have quite a wait after ordering, to the point where you wonder if they’ve forgotten about you (one time, they had for us, but were apologetic and got our drinks asap). It’s also pretty expensive. But you do get great views, and there’s some play things for young children to keep them entertained. Overall I’d definitely recommend the fruit and veg picking, and would overall recommend the cafe if you have plenty time and not on a budget!

The food was good and reasonably priced for the quality and the building and view are nice. The mushroom soup was excellent but the lentil to salty but otherwise nice. So why 2 stars? The service and organisation is absolutely atrocious. It starts the moment you arrive. Is it table service or self service? Do you seat yourself or wait to be seated.? Do you pay at table or at the till? Nothing is clear and staff don't help. Several people left without being served at all. Then when you want to pay it takes them 15 minutes and only because I insisted I would wait any longer. We would have got coffee and cake but this would have taken way to long. There is lots of staff but they are all over the place and seem very stressed.

Unfortunately, 2 stars is a very generous review. We bought play and PYO tickets for 2 adults and 2 children at a cost of £45 (£60 but £15 redeemable against fruit picked). This price included a drink and shortbread. I asked if my teabag could be swapped for a peppermint tea as I can't tolerate caffeinated drinks and was told I could not and would be charged for this. However, the cafe staff swapped the advertised strawberry shortbread for a plain shortbread round much to the disappointment of my child who had been promised a special strawberry shaped biscuit. The play area is fine, tho on the day we visited the sand pit was not fully functional which was disappointing. We visited the animals next and were astounded to see a lone rabbit in a small hutch with a huge pile of carrots, peppers and cabbage. Rabbits cannot tolerate this kind of food in such quantities (the gas produced could cause GI stasis) and should have a much (much much much) larger space to live and exercise in. We did enjoy looking at the horses though. We then went to the fruit fields and had fun picking fruit together. Though most of the poly tunnels were closed which meant that the large strawberries the staff had told us about were not available for us to pick. After this we visited the cafe for some lunch. However, 30 minutes after we were seated we decided to leave as no one had come for our order despite asking several times. All in all, a fairly disappointing (and very expensive) day out.

This is my third visit and on each occasion service has been very slow and disorganised, I think because there aren't enough serving staff on. Staff are lovely but far too busy. We had to chase for our drinks as the order was misplaced. This time the food was pretty disappointing, the chicken salad was the least interesting chicken salad I have ever had, the quiche was not as expected (was quiche filling in a pie shell), and my sister's cheese sandwich, advertised as just cheddar, contained chopped red onions which she can't eat, and mayo which she doesn't like. Only redeeming feature were excellent strawberry tarts and good flat white. Lovely location but quite a bit needs to be better.

Really expensive. The play barn is a good play area for kids but it is £9 per child regardless of age and adults also pay £7 each on top of that which is extortionate, especially after you buy lunch too as no food from outside is allowed in. We had a nice day (hence stars) but we won't be back! Also, the food decent but really disappointed that it was card only in the playbarn as my mum doesn't have contactless or able to use a smart phone so couldn't pay. So including our entry I ended up spending £52 for lunch (a sandwich with no drinks or cakes) for 2 adults and a 2 year old - ouch!

What an incredible selection of fruit to pick. The quality is quite amazing. The prices are not ridiculous and the staff were all lovely. My one very small issue was the time it took to weigh and pay. The queue took forever (busy, means it's good). The young boys did seem quite new. Didn't take away from a fantastic time.

We’ve been coming here every year for 7 years now and we’ve always enjoyed picking fruit as a family. We like to get breakfast at the cafe after and the kids play at the play park. But The play park has lost its swing and slide which is a shame. The strawberries we picked were very sweet and big. Overall we will still continue to come here every year.

What an improvement from my last few visits. The staff were so much more attentive, friendly and helpful, it made all the difference 🌞 It was a shame they didn't have much vegetarian and no vegan options, not even a nice salad. Maybe next time. Great place for families as well. Would highly recommend 👌

It isn't cheap but offers fantastic value for money. I wouldn't buy my meat for anywhere else.

We enjoyed afternoon tea in the afternoon. The large grounds were beautiful and green. All the cakes were beautiful, delicate, and delicious without being too sweet. The scone was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and firm throughout, with a grainy texture. It was cold from the beginning, so I wanted it to be served warm. The savory was quite good, and it wasn't too much and was the size that I could eat it all. Although it was a wonderful reception room with a nice view from the window, it was a disappointing shop. I made a reservation by entering my card number from the official website. When I tried to pay after finishing my meal on the day of the meal, I was told that it was not necessary. I thought I was paying by card that I entered on the website. Later, I received a double payment from the credit card company I entered. I contacted the hotel and store via email about 5-6 times, but there was no response. After consulting with my payment card company, I managed to get one charge stopped. What should I do if there is no response even though the amount is large? It's a shame considering it's a historic hotel and store. I had planned to go there next time I came to Edinburgh, but I decided against it. Please deal with the basics properly. If you are making an online reservation and can enter your card number, please order.
