The food and service are both excellent

Het eten was super lekker, ze hadden verse ingrediënten en dat was zeker te merken. Heerlijk! Wij werden geholpen door Kasia en Lucia, zij waren beide er vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Ook was het super mooi ingericht. Ik zou dit zeker aanraden!

Had a luxurious bowl of porridge cooked in double cream with Italian poached peas and roasted almonds flakes. What an interior! And attentive service.

Myself and my Husband had a lunch at Contini restaurant on Tuesday the 15th of October and at the time I didn’t complain as the lunch was for our wedding anniversary so I felt at the time it would spoil the day . I was going to leave a review on tripadvisor but I thought that they should get the chance to rectify the situation first but I haven’t had a reply from them. The main issue was that I was extremely underwhelmed by everything that I had except the tiramisu . I had the Burrata to start with which was ok but tasteless and the cold fennel was extremely unappealing and I was really disappointed in it . My Husband had the Arancini which were better than mine and we both had the Orrechiette with the sausage which was very gristly and the sauce was very unremarkable too. I ordered focaccia and was given 3 strips of cold slightly stale focaccia with no herbs on top which was what I was expecting. As I said the Tiramisu was nice but by husband didn’t enjoy his Gelato. Altogether We were extremely disappointed with the meal. We dine out a lot in Glasgow so I know great food when I eat it and I feel that it was all style and no substance . I am a positive easy going person so feeling so strongly about something to complain . The restaurant itself is very stylish but the food had no substance and is grossly overpriced .

Onions in the food were not listed on the ingredients. Since it had a lot of onions, I would have expected that. If you don't like onions, it's a shame to eat.

We decided to try the Piccolo menu and it didn't disappoint. It was Wow and amazing value, it allows you to try different dishes. We are currently watching Stanley Tucci searching for Italy and this made us feel like we where back in Italy with all the amazing ingredients😍 We then finished off with the best Espresso Martini! Special mention to our waitress Hope who was lovely.

I booked a table here for my girlfriends birthday, service here is incredible! As a fellow hospitality worker, I can recognise great service and this place has that if nothing else! Special shout out to Hope for making our experience here amazing!

The food was good, but the menu didn't mention that there were a lot of onions in the tuna pasta. Since I don't like onions, that was a shame.

The important parts of Contini - the food and staff - are really great. Unfortunately, big old bank buildings stuggle to transfer successfully to other uses especially if you paint everything grey and keep everything minimal. Stylish but the effect was like eating in an enormous, cold and, as it turned out, very expensive bathroom. I fully acknowledge the costs of running such a venue on George St but some of the pricing left a lingering unpleasant aftertaste.

Great lunch amazing food Bit pricey but worth it.

Great experience..retaining a welcoming Italian family run feeling within a former banking hall. Sensible menu not large but sufficient choices. Price reflects location and ambiance. Service was good and pleasant staff were efficient we were not hurried despite Saturday night being busy. Some may find the noise levels given building scale a little high for conversation but this shows popularity.

Beautiful setting, lovely staff all with pronoun badges (very helpful!) Who were welcoming and chatty. Food was amazing as a really god treat but we had gone for the set menu and found out they don't run that over fringe time. So we spent about 4 times more than intended on lunch.

I got a lovely “Contadino” pasta which was perfectly cooked and reminded me of my month abroad in Italy. Very nice atmosphere and servers. We were served by Aisha who was very caring and explained the menu to us. Overall a very good experience and I would highly recommend coming here to anyone who wants to have a nice Italian meal in new town Edinburgh.

Delicious pasta, but slow service at points. The Tiramisu was not as light as I like.

Good selection for brunch. Managed to sit out in the sunshine whilst having brunch. Butteries are soooo good.

It’s a very good restaurant. Great location, very good food and great service. We were in a hurry and our servant really tired to rush the food, but it took a very long time to arrive. I would still refined this place.

Yeah, 3 stars due to service just not being nice. Very little attempt at friendly banter with a group of 8. Overselling on side dishes when it wasn’t needed. No interest in repouring expensive wine or asking if we wanted more bottles when we finished first ones before main course. Food was not bad. Vibe was not really existent- these guys are phoning everything in and it shows.

Definitely a great place for breakfast and cocktails. Waiting staff were brilliant.

Mushroom risotto was way too rich & creamy for me (I really hope they don’t actually add cream). Otherwise, it was great.

Pretty disappointing experience. We passed by the restaurant in the afternoon to book a table for 4 for the same evening, and where told we would be in the main room at the back, that is a really nice place. When we arrived, we were placed in a small corner, close to a curtain through which staff were continuously passing, with a limited view on the dining hall and close to open windows that proved to be difficult to close when I finally asked for. About the service: staff where very friendly but we had two waiters, one of them not really aware about what the other had done. The wine came quite late, and so did the coffee. The food was excellent, and so was the Negroni. But I really have the feeling that we were parked in a corner. We could maybe have left (there was no other proper table available), but then good luck to find a place at 7:30 PM. So, rather disappointing.

Ate outside, the tables are basic plastic right on the asphalt so the atmosphere was just ok. Food was okay, not bad but nothing notable in the other direction either. Service seemed a bit off. They forgot my dessert so I got it after I had already finished my pot of tea.

We were looking forward to visiting this restaurant as we read the reviews and the decor and ambiance is lovely. We were quickly disappointed as staff could not confidently recommend wines. They seemed understaffed as we waited quite a while for refills on water or requests from the table. Food was just ok - nothing that blew us away. Just an overall disappointing experience.

Beautiful spot for drinks outside when weather permits. Staff are super attentive and friendly. A really good spot away from the madness but yet city Central.

Santosh was the best server. Kind and attentive and gave us samples of wine to try before the bottle. The atmosphere was beyond beautiful. I’d come here for a few drinks. Food was ok. It wasn’t the best but Santosh helped make it better with his positivity and great portions of parmesean. Service was easily 10 out of 5 stars and worth coming for a dinner.

massivlely overhyped tbh - table of 9 - no one seemed to love any of the food.. small potions, overpriced and didnt really taste of much.. some dishes were completely cold... waitress assured a vegan that her pasta was cheese-free.. after eating, the guest realised it wasn't. barely an apology- really poor service, bad way to spend £60 each

Excellent cuisine, excellent service

The food was okay but very simple for this chic place. The music doesn’t fit in the beautiful building. You’ll expect acoustic music but the music is with a bouncing beat. It is also very loud inside. Way too expensive for what you get, but it’s also in the middle of the city so it’s not very strange.

Just home from an incredible meal at Contino. My partner is a critic/ reviewer and so we are lucky to eat at some of the best restaurants internationally and as a result we are difficult to impress. I just can't say enough nice things about this place, the food was excellent and thoughtfully created, the quality of the ingredients was clear as was the skill of the chef/s and the service was good. What was particularly impressive was the value, we both had 3 courses and a couple of glasses of wine each which came to about £56 per person. The 5* establishment we ate at yesterday, just round the corner, was literally double the price and the food was nowhere close as delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend and I will be back.

The venue is very nice with high ceilings, however, I went straight to the toilets and they were absolutely disgusting - each toilet bin had overflowing sanitary bins and toilet paper everywhere. Seemed like a totally different venue to the one upstaits. I informed, what I thought was one of the senior members of staff, who barely acknowledged my piece of information. The service from the rest of the waiting staff was very good, however, the £22 dish of gnocci was severely underwhelming. The 6 muscles laid on top was the best part, as the rest was rather tasteless.

Italian restaurant, delicious dishes and wide choice of wines

Excellent staff and pleasant atmosphere but food very underwhelming. Fish was clearly frozen with texture like cotton wool. Pretty tasteless apart from the cherry tomatoes. Not exactly presented with love.

Great venue, very impressive on the eye. Bit pricey for what you get. But good food we'll presented. Good wine list. So why not 5 stars? I ordered cheese for desert, from the menu, and they didn't have any!!!! An Italian that has no cheese!!!

This is probably my 4th time at Contini, so probably long overdue for a review! Always such a good moment with fresh food, many of the ingredients sourced from Italy. It should be one of your go to places when in Edinburgh: simple, fresh and tasty.

Very beautiful and evocative place in the former hall of a bank. I'd say 80% Italian menu, there are some slightly Scottish-style reinterpretations but that's normal. Attentive service and suitable prices.

Went here for a work dinner with a client and it was delightful. Staff were really attentive and checked in on us regularly. The food was delicious! We shared three starters (Salame, Arancini, Burrata) and some focaccia. All of which were so nice. The Arancini were my favourite. We each had a main: Branzino, Chicken Milanese and Maltagliati. The restaurant was very nice but is quite pricey but good for a nice treat.

Quality food, but no atmosphere as everyone outside enjoying the sun

One of the best Italian restaurants in Edinburgh and the perfect choice for a special meal or date night! The restaurant itself is in a gorgeous old build with high ceilings which is very grand, and in summer they have a beautiful seating area on the street for cocktails and nibbles. The menu changes regularly but it’s all fresh and inventive - there’s beautiful touches such as mint in the cocktails from the owners gardens. The staff are all attentive but not obstructive and take time to explain the menu. Their cocktail menu and menu are both extensive and also change frequently, meaning there’s always something new to try! I’d recommend this place to locals and tourists who are looking for a real gem in the city centre. You won’t be disappointed!

The environment and atmosphere are impressive. The service quality of the staff is high. Spaghetti could have been better.

After visiting the Scottish national gallery, we had our eyes caught by this captivating café lounge. The waitress there were really kind and welcoming. The place offers a calm and pleasant atmosphere, while you can contemplate the Prince's street Garden by the window. We ordered a yummy piece of chocolate and banana cake with a cup of tea. I highly recommend it.

This is a superb restaurant. Whether living in or visiting Edinburgh it is a must visit. Every meal is spectacular - Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. The staff are very friendly and the owners Victor and Carina are amazing. Just go and see for yourself. Now celebrating 20 years on George Street - Congratulations.

The worst service by the front of house “Maddy”…. Appalling …… total bad attitude…… ordered Prosecco and no Flutes !!! Maddy had no apologies … just stated no flutes and she didn’t make the rules ! Would never b back

The food was really fresh, especially the starts were great. The gnocchi are definitely handmade but they lacked flavor. I can really recommend the Burrata and the spinach as a starter. The cocktails are really pricey but also really delicious. They had also a plant based menu what’s really cool. So you can have a full 3 course menu in vegan

Food was great, some salads could do with slightly more dressing as they were slightly dry. The service was fantastic, especially Sophia who was a great waitress with a great attitude and super friendly and very attentive!!

We had a lovely meal at Contini! Maddy, our server, was so friendly and kind and proactive; she took extra steps to make a birthday meal special and joyful. We had a great table, loved the room and booth in the corner. Food was delicious- especially the mozzarella and the ravioli.

A beautiful spacious interior creates a lovely place to sit and eat. Great for breakfast/brunch and must be close to the best bacon roll you can get in town. Ideally situated on George Street so you'll never be far away if you are in town.

Very poor service from Contini’s last night. I booked for the Valentines set menu, priced at £60 per person for 3 courses, so naturally was expecting great food & fantastic service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a host who did not appear confident in her job and was fussing over coats for an extended period of time before she seated us. Our drink order was taken & our starters arrived in sufficient timing though our main meals took at least 45 minutes to arrive, when they did, my meal was very poor, gnocchi undercooked and cold in places with very little flavour. Working in hospitality myself, I absolutely would not have taken issue with this if they had bothered to check back at any point during the meal, however they did not. Service was slow and nowhere near as attentive as it should have been considering the customer flow and staffing levels on the night. Overall, left very disappointed and disheartened on what was a very special occasion, we will not be recommending or returning to Contini’s again.

£120 for 2. A three course meal each and it took 1h45mins in total to arrive. The Arancini starter was good, the Hake main was mediocre at best. Not exactly what I would expect when spending £20-£30 per course. My partner’s Gnocchi was poor and tasteless, luckily our second server of the night managed to take some drinks off our bill for the underwhelming food. We had no check back on our main meal, which I thought was very poor and would have helped them in being able to rectify the experience. The desserts were good. Overall, very expensive for what we received…£120 in total for 3 courses each. I’ve had better in my local Italian restaurant for £110 for three courses with a bottle of wine included. Not to mention food that had you asking for more… Not exactly what we were expecting for the price, location and night. I would however like to point out the good service of our last server of the evening who managed to remove our first round of drinks and offered a complimentary measure of liquorz Although they did not offer to reduce the cost of any of our meals. Very expensive, mediocre food.

Fabulous dinner this week. My chicken was a bit dry, but the scallops and arancini, were incredible. The service and atmosphere were delightful. Will definitely be returning soon.

Beautiful restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic staff, in particular the man who looked after me for most of the evening (I think his name is Enrique?) One of the best mojitos I've had, accompanied with some canapes to start. As a vegetarian I love to see and try something different that I've not seen in other restaurants and I wasn't disappointed by the Carciofi! Compliments to the bartender and the chef, everything was superb!

The term don't judge a book by its cover really sits well here. The outside of the building is beautiful and inviting. The inside lacks soul and atmosphere. It was cold and lifeless. The only reason it gets one star is because of the service which is great. The food is so so over priced and the menu confusing and dull. Don't be tricked by the architecture out the front. GG

Restaurant is lovely inside. We had a nice time. We were not really working to a budget but found the menu to be expensive and did not offer value for money. The wine list reflects this as the entry bottle of white comes in at £38 and goes upwards quickly. Food was very tasty but not outstanding - the price point attached to it set expectations of grandeur but didn't deliver. Atmosphere was lacking. Couldn't quite put our finger on it. I think the lack of atmospheric music lead to quite an empty loud echoey room which we described as sounding like a wetherspoons. Maybe some nice relaxing music to blend into the background would improve things. Enjoyed the evening and the meal. Had a good time. But we wouldn't go again.

Came for lunch between Christmas and the New Year. Lovely attentive service. Great menu and a fabulous drinks list. We had their Manhattan's plus a blond negroni to start which were very good. The starters were large and very tasty. Pasta main courses were excellent and truly authentic. I'd definitely visit again.

Eten was goed en bij binnenkomst dacht ik wow mooi plafond. Maar was niet wat ik ervan verwacht had. Goedkopere restaurants waren veel gastvrijer. Je bent een nummer geen gast als ze je geld binnen hebben niemand die nog wat zegt of bij de uitgang. Toiletten ook vergane glorie. Vond de prijzen ook behoorlijk duur of dat komt dat het tussen kerst en oud en nieuwjaar is? In ieder geval stukken duurder dan nederland. Vanaf 8.95 pond voor glas rode wijn en je betaald ook nog bedieningskosten 10% zo vriendelijk waren ze niet. Maar het eten is verder wel lekker. Leer hoe ze met gasten omgaan bij The Dome minder duur super mooi en wordt als echte gast behandeld. Bij binnenkomst aan tafel en bij het weg gaan.

Whilst the place was very good looking and the service was nice, the food was absolutely despicable. For quite a price, you get a very small portion of food that is tasteless. The menu needs a quick upgrade, this was the worst food that we had whilst dining outside in over a year.

Visited Contini during a trip to Edinburgh. When you walk in, you're greeted by a beautiful atmosphere and ambiance. Ultra-high ceilings and the bar as a focal point of the room. I ordered the Pasta Olivia and a side of pomodori misti. Overall the dishes were good. They needed salt but the pasta was cooked well. For dessert, I got the cheese course which was a Gorganzola. Very mild in flavour but the grapes had seeds in them which ruined the dish. Also, the "crackers" were so thin, they contributed little to the dish. My server was average. She seldom checked on me and my meal and the "discretionary" service charge was added to the bill (as was the case in every restaurant I went to, not very "discretionary"). What was a little off putting was the servers were wearing t-shirts. With an establishment like Contini, I would expect servers to wear more formal uniforms.

We had booked a private room for our team Christmas party. The booking process was really good and Eilish and Stephanie had both been really helpful to make sure we had everything we needed and when there were any questions or changes it was easily dealt with. On the night Natasha was incredibly attentive and always on hand to make sure we felt comfortable and relaxed within our private room. The food was really tasty and all served promptly, including making sure our colleague with dietary requirements were well catered for. Our Sicilian colleague was very happy with both the food and drink, which we all saw as really good. Well done to everyone for making our evening special and we look forward to returning in the future. Personally I've been to the restaurant a number of times for work, but also been to both the Scottish Cafe and Cannonball at the Castle. Thanks as always

Quite a bit overpriced in my opinion. The sausage and beans were not my favourite - way too much spaces and for the price tag of £24 very much a ripoff. The mozzarella is literally mozzarella ball and a few cherry tomatoes cut in half - for from caprese salad - literally you open a pack of mozzarella and cut 5 cherry tomatoes in half - 20 sec no more. Panettone (almond and rum) was actually nice but also very heavily overpriced. Service was very great!

Por favor que nadie caiga en la trampa de ir a este sitio, es el típico restaurante que por estar en un sitio turístico (castillo de Edimburgo) se aprovecha de las circunstancias para abusar del cliente, no es que abusen en el precio (se podría ver en la carta de fuera del restaurante) es que una vez sentados te obligan a pedir la cantidad de platos que ellos estipulen (éramos 4 personas, y habíamos merendado tarde y queríamos compartir platos). Pero la camarera, con una mala educación que no había visto jamás en un restaurante de esta acogedora ciudad, y además con síntomas de estar en estado de embriaguez o drogada, nos empezó a gritar que no era posible, que si no teníamos el poder adquisitivo suficiente, no fuésemos a ese tipo de sitios, con la consiguiente situación de bochorno para todos los presentes. Es una pena no saber el nombre de esa persona tan maleducada, para que todo el mundo lo conozca, al menos espero que sirva para que nadie vuelva a caer en esta ESTAFA, porque no tiene otro nombre.

Grand place with very friendly, helpful staff, we were looked after very well. The menu had a lot of choice. I had the burrata for stater which was delicious. The ravioli was just amazing and I finished with an Affogato. Recommended place to eat

Worst fish we've had in years. So disappointing and at about £75 a head a real downer of an evening. I'm still feeling nauseous thinking about it. Quite a few dishes were unavailable so we were a bit stuck for choice.

Normally here at the weekends but just as super on a chilly Edinburgh day. Always such a warm and friendly atmosphere greets guests and the Menu is overflowing with fabulous options using only top quality ingredients. Eric and Lucia looked after us so well today but Continis have such a well trained team that you’ll have super service regardless. So highly recommended and looking forward to the next visit already!

Unreal food, great wine and impeccable service by Natasha! Burrata and aranchini starter followed by the sausage meat orichette and the duck rugu parpadelle.
