Staff very pleasant : good pretty bad . Vegetable soup tasted like nothing at all , it was so bland , like baby food . My dad’s BLT sandwich was sadly inedible . Chips stone cold . Won’t bother again .

We haven't had a meal here for a couple of years. Meals are now served at the table which is much more convenient than pushing a tray along the counter. Even though the place was very busy we didn't have to wait long before the food was served. Both meals were very good. It is certainly a place we will visit again.

How can this organisation consistently dish up rubbish meals. As it’s such a lovely location, we thought we would try this place again after having a very poor visit sometime ago. Cod and chips more like batter and chips, hardly any fish and what there was poor quality. Veggie burger, rock hard on the outside and a squidgy green something or the other on the inside, impossible to eat in a bun. Total waste of money

My friends and I visited Charlie's today and stopped for lunch. The food was beautiful. Three of us had fish finger sandwiches and the fourth a ploughman's. The sandwiches were delicious as were the chips they were served with. The ploughman's was massive, so much so we asked for a box to take it home. All the staff were amazing and were so attentive especially when there was a delay with one of the meals. One of the ladies even took photos for us. We can't wait to make a return visit.

After a couple of hours browsing the new Spring plants my sister and I decided on a light lunch. We both ordered the fish finger sandwich and tea for two. Although it was reasonably quiet when we ordered, we had long finished our drinks before our food arrived. To say it was disappointing was an understatement. Two, tough overcooked fishfingers presented between two pieces of very dry bread. A scraping of something green which I assumed was tartare sauce flicked across one slice of bread, and a waterlogged salad which looked like it had been dropped into dishwater, scooped out with a slotted spoon and splatted from a distance onto the plate. Three slices of soggy cucumber, half a slice of tomato which looked like it had seen better days, and a miserable excuse for some lettuce which looked like it should be on the compost heap! Oh and lets not forget the handful of cold, cardboard like chips. We won't be lunching there again. How can anyone make such a mess of making a sandwich?

This restaurant used to be good, I have been there a number of times in the past but sadly in more recent times it seems to have gone downhill. The menu had no gluten free options marked, so I guess no gluten free sandwich or toast is available, also there used to be a chicken and chips meal but this is no longer available. My partner ordered fish and chips with peas, only got about 10 chips, he also felt unwell later in the day which is unusual for him and he could only put it down to the meal. The meals arrived without much of a wait. My baked potato was mediocre, seemed like a reheated one, semi-firm, like a waxy texture, little taste to it. Pot of grated cheese from a catering packet, salad OK but some of it was just a thick stub of stalk from the bottom of the lettuce with some tiny bits of leaf on it. Both meals were really underwhelming. I asked about gluten free cakes or biscuits, there was gluten free brownie or carrot cake, no other gf options like biscuits, seriously how hard is it to have some packets of gluten free biscuits at a busy cafe where both locals and visitors go, not everyone wants cakes. I asked about decaff filter coffee but the only decaff option was instant! The staff were friendly enough but when a lady ordering before me asked if they could maker her a plain chicken sandwich because of her dietary issues she was told no, all the sandwiches were pre-made. We tried the brownies, not impressed with these either, solid clay-like texture and not much flavour at all, really not pleasant. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant any more for these reasons.

We visited the garden centre today which was amazing, then we decided to have some lunch in the café. When we got there and went to order we were told the wait time for the food would be around 20 minutes, which was alright with us. However, we ended up waiting near to an hour for our food as they had to cook the quiche fresh, at the point of ordering we were not told this at all! And when they only brought us 3 out of 4 dishes, the waitress told us that someone had dropped the quiche on the floor! Needless to say I wasn’t very happy at all after waiting an hour to eat and ending up not having anything at all!! One of my family members had the curry but it was extremely bland and tasteless! Highly disappointed today.

Called for lunch today. The food was as always lovely although l thought the portions were unnecessarily large. Most chips in all 4 meals were too big and some were left. They have a weird method of ordering at the counter where they also put up people's hot drinks. This causes a long queue. We waited 45mins for our food after ordering. Could be much sliker.

We regularly enjoyed breakfast here on a Sunday but our last visit left us really disappointed. Our first thought was how have they managed to keep the prices so reasonable? After ordering and receiving two full breakfasts we understood I think. The quality of the ingredients has gone downhill dramatically in our honest opinion. The sausages were burnt, dry and with very little texture / meat. The mushrooms instead of being lovely and fresh looked and tasted like those ones you get from a tin in brine, horrible. The only think that nice was the egg so that just about says it all. It is such a shame, we both agreed we'd sooner pay more and have the lovely breakfast they were renown for. Can't fault service, staff etc, just the food. We'll return but not until we know its improved. I have to say a few of the people in our village have also commented on this same issue. A real shame, they were the best.

We really love coming to Howard's the food is good quality, great prices and the service was lovely, with short and fast moving que BUT a restaurant is not just about service and food, you have to actually be comfortable and the heat of this restaurant was ridiculous today🥵🥵🥵 How on earth anyone was in there I have no idea🤯 We opted just for a quick drink ( we were originally going for lunch but couldn't bare the temperature in there) . I'd promised my son a cake so we went in and just had a drink and my children both had a piece of cake. My sons cake (rockyroad) was melting as he ate it it was so hot! My mum couldn't finish her coffee before she could no longer bare the temperature and we had to leave. One door was open but provided next to no relief from the heat. With all the windows it was like sitting in a green house. I've not been to any eating establishment recently that doesn't have air conditioning on so customers are comfortable. If you dont have it, i think it would be worth your while installing it and quickly! I know of thre other ppl ive spoken to recently who have came to visit the store and were going to eat but decided not to due to the temperature of the restaurant. Surely it's in your interests to keep customers cool, they will be comfortable and spend more. It ruined the whole thing to be honest! In addition there were no ice creams🍦🥤 or milkshakes, frapes available, only pop or water for the children which was a shame especially in heat, I thought milkshakes and ice cream were a standard option for children in most cafes/ restaurants or even smoothies or slushies, something a bit exciting and soenthing to help keep them cool. I should add I know there were tables out side as even at 30 degrees it was cooler outside than Inside your sweltering restaurant but there's only 6 and only 3 were in the shade and all of them were taken. It's sad as we do love your restaurant and like visiting and even more so as we seem to get served quicker these days and the food is delicious 😋Please do something about the heat in there, the main shop was alot cooler you will be loosing a lot of custom , just like you lost ours yesterday!

I eat a fair few full breakfasts and for some reason it is very rare to get a perfect one as often it seems like some of the items have been pre cooked and the constituent parts just put together with each other to be served. All of the items here at Howard’s seemed freshly cooked at the same time and were piping hot. The quality of each ingredient was excellent with the sausages and bacon being particularly good. Well priced too. Decent surroundings, staff nice enough. Loads of parking. Would return.

We had some cakes while waiting for the min meal and the cakes were beautiful, home made chocolate cake was divine, then we had 4 lovely lunches from sandwiches to hot meals, portions were very generous and imo it wasn't that expensive for what we received. All staff were polite and well mannered and made the whole experience more enjoyable. Local to us so we visit quite often for all sorts of things. The biggest turn off for us though is the awful piped Christmas muzak which is inescapable throughout the store from October onwards. It's bad enough at any time, but Charlie's start it earlier than anywhere else in Britain, so we try to avoid the place from October till mid January. The rest of the year they still insist on forcing their customers and staff to listen to the usual piped crap, but the Christmas period is just awful. They really need to wise up on this issue, surveys show that piped music is loathed by most people and it doesn't do anything for their sales. Oh, and they play it outside too, so you can even hear it while walking round the gardens of Powis Castle on the hillside above! Lovely!

Called in for breakfast. At Howard’s for breakfast there are two queues, if you want just a cup or tea and toast or a bacon roll you use one queue, if you want a cooked breakfast, which from the menu appeared to be a choice of just three options - either “full English”, a lighter version of the full English with reduced number of rashers, sausages etc, or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, you use another queue. For a cooked breakfast the system is that you place your order and pay, you’re given flag with a number on it and you take this and your chosen drink to a table, and the food is then brought to you (by one young chap who was hardly Mr Speedy and kept having to return with problems with the orders).

I visited today with my elderly mum and 2 of my daughters, the cafe was fairly busy but we managed to find a table quite easily. They have a very strange arrangement whereby you have to buy hot and cold food separately. This is quite time consuming when you want to order from both. My daughters queued for the hot food and I did the cold - they then came back to me to say that the jacket potatoes that they wanted weren’t available anymore, even though the board was still on show. As I watched it was then removed. They were also told that there were no chicken dishes available. I had to then leave my place in the queue so that I could go back to my mum who was seated at the table to get her to reselect. Back in the cold food queue, we were going to have panini only for the person in front of us to be told that there was a 30 minute wait for these, because of the time already taken we didn’t have time to wait so we went back to the hot food section and had to have whatever was available.

The Sunday lunches are now just slipped on your plate with no care or attention, the cakes and bread are so dry you can hardly chew them and the paninis no longer come with crisps. The standard of the food has dropped significantly - we used to enjoy a bacon and Brie panini and the bacon used to be lovely and crispy - the last few times it had been nothing but fatty.

Tasted like slightly flavoured hot water gave us both a nauseous reaction. Glad to get home for a decent cuppa. Quite a wait at the counter as the till operator appeared to be serving as well

We called in to the cafe for a pot of tea and tea cake , however my husband ordered the teas and asked “Do you have a teacake? The lady behind the server contemplated her reply and after thoughtful contemplation replied “NO”

Lunch was popular, lots of people, but disappointing. I had a baked potato but this was very dry I don't like the way there are 2 different areas for ordering food ( 1 for cake and 1 for hot meals). This means you need to queue twice for a cake and a coke; poorly designed.

Arrived just seven minutes after the cut off for breakfast! Bad timing! The breakfast menu looked good. However, the bacon, brie and cranberry panini was a pretty good replacement! Tasty food!

Howards serves a great breakfast, raning from a full Farmhouse to Eggs Benedict. Lunches are goid portions of fresh food and the cakes are yummy too. Top all tgat with goid coffee and tea in pots that dont drip...it’s a winner. Prices are on ooint, giving great value for money.

I've had breakfast here many times and it's very good. I've also had lunch several times and each time just seems to get worse. Very average food and poor service. Having watched the operation (had plenty of time) I'd say that the kitchen staff need training and supervision and the same for FOH staff. Having managed plenty of people in the area over the years I know it can be like "herding cats" but if you want your customers to have a better experience, then it needs to be done. After the summer tourists go home I'll bet lunch is a quiet affair. Sad because Charlie's is a good draw and is generally busy. Check out the Derwen or Dobbies and see what they do different. I'll be back for breakfast but that's it sorry to say.

Not quite sure about Howards Restaurant. I sang it's praise to a friend, what a fantastic steak & ale pie with proper shortcrust pastry, the best around. Only to be served what I describe as a stew with a piece of puff pastry, to represent a lid. I refused the dish and was really disappointed.

Visited Coed y Dinas and saw sandwich board advertising menu available in restaurant (CAFE) and decided to eat there. Overpriced, tasteless and peppery pumpkin soup £4-50 per serving, and tea served in a small coffee cup. Asked for meal that was on display board at the entrance to the garden centre, to be told only available on Thursday, also time was 1-30 and another customer told only two servings of one particular meal available. More staff than customers and self service at waitress service prices. better value and choice at Morrisons supermarket and pleasant staff plus orders taken and meal brought to table freshly cooked and hot. Only stayed for soup and travelled later to Morrisons for a hot freshly cooked meal and a respectable cup of tea and coffee. Must say that 2 servings of soup plus roll, cup of tea and cup of coffee cost more than 2 cooked meals plus dessert and tea and coffee at Morrisons.

Howard's Restaurant is part of a great shopping experience. Animal and working equipment in one building and ladies wear, kitchen and home wear, furniture and furnishings, outdoor clothing, toys, pet supplies, garden supplies and garden furniture in the summer with a great Christmas display from October on, craft items, food items shop and more:- not forgetting the restaurant. Once you've had a good look round and spent your fill, sit and relax as you look out over the mid Wales countryside. I've stopped for tea and Apple pie today which has got me ready to carry on driving.

We call in most Sunday mornings after Church for a Cappaccino, Toasted Teacake and read the Sunday papers. Aways well patronised with plenty of families adding to the friendly hubub. It has become quite a ritual after several years and it really sets us up for the day and miss it when we are called away.

I was informed about Howard's Restaurant last week and about the Thursday evening meal so we decided to give it a try. We have eaten at this particular location once before when visiting the garden centre at lunch time. We were met by a pleasant gentleman shown to a table and informed about the menu. All three of use decided to have the rump steak and all the trimmings (7.99) Followed by two servings of apple pie and one strawberry charlotte russe. The main course was well cooked, the veg were pretty basic, but you get that in most pubs these days quite enjoyable. I always judge apple pies on my mothers and this one was gluten my wife is gluten so having a dessert is quite rare for her.The pie was huge with piping hot custard quite enjoyable, but sadly not as good as my mothers there again nothing is. For the price and the pleasant surroundings the attentive staff I would visit again It is well worth a visit for you tea and there is not that many in the garden centre.

This place is so handy for me as it's opposite to where I get my car serviced. Today was car service day so why not start the day with a breakfast ! Full English for me and loved it ! Proper tasty sausages and thick bacon, beans, mushrooms, hash brown, egg, black pudding and 2 slices of toast with a large coffee all for under £6 ! This is better value than the supermarkets and better quality too. All I need now is a comfy sofa to fall into :-)

What could be nicer than ample parking, a great shopping experience and a lovely restaurant offering good value, delicious home made food. If you arrive early you can enjoy a wholesome breakfast, followed by snacks until lunch is served at noon. The choice is wide, with specials and old favourites on offer. Try the tasty quiche or Welsh beef and ale pie. You won't be disappointed and , no doubt, will return again and again.

We often visit Charlie's for a mooch and a coffee stop on the way home from Wales. We decided to have a main meal of steak pie today. I was pleasantly surprised it was very tasty and the steak lean and tender. Bit of a wait at checkout as the cashier had to keep leaving us to replenish cutlery. Staff friendly and helpful.

Stumbled on the New Inn for lunch. This little pub turned out to be a bit of a gem - great, home cooked food and friendly staff. A good local crowd too to add some atmosphere!

We stayed here for bed and breakfast while enjoying walking in the National Park. Rooms are spacious and clean, if nt a little dated. Friendly service from staff and a fabulous breakfast. A nice chilled atmosphere to the hotel. All reasonably priced, and we look forward to returning again.

We stayed here a few months back and found the place to be excellent again! Last time the breakfast service was poor due to a member of staff, this time the complete opposite ! The pub is amazing and has a nice atmosphere, the restaurant is lovely and the food excellent ! The staff are all really eager to please, the breakfast as I mentioned was excellent with great service ! Room 12 is a challenge for a 6’2 person but comfortable ! The bath should be replaced with a shower cubicle really but can’t fault the place overall and will always come back even if in room 12 :-)
