Brilliant this week back to their high standards

So looked forward to our fish and chips but disappointing. The fish was dry, the batter was soggy and the chips were quite hard in the middle so not quite cooked long enough for me.

Went in to sit down and eat inside it was 6.42 and we were told the sit inside closes at 7 pm so couldn't be served . So we had take away we waited half a hour as they were doing tons of deliver orders . When we finally got them the chips weren't put on greaseproof paper so the paper was all soggy and the chips were just a load of mashed up chips

Excellent food. Large portions - even pensioners. Make sure you are hungry before you sit down Great friendly service Will definitely be back

Fish and chips nice ,ordered 3 curry sauces only got 2 and they was awful like runny gravy ,bland no taste at all

I asked for a medium cheesy chips and was told we only do small or large cheesy chips. Are you kidding me! It's chips with cheese on it. Just do a medium chips and put some cheese on it you moron. I couldn't even be bothered to argue with the grubby looking brain dead server. Chips where dry and overcooked.

Came here multiple times. Staff are friendly but the food is awful, oily, burnt, small portions, items always missing and the texture of the chips are absolutely awful

Howard's is my first choice chip shop. Good value, great food and freindly service.

I Went here before the Adele Songbook event and had such a lovely time. The fish and chips were perfect and the staff so friendly and accommodating. I loved it.

The batter was just like a soggy oily piece of mush that wasn’t even on the fish. I eat fish and chips in a lot of places so how can it be beautiful and crispy with lovey sweet moist flakes of cod in so many other places This was truly awful. Don’t be so tight by wrapping it in paper. I’m happy to spend 20p more if you put it in a takeaway box. I understand how much food prices and all your other overheads have gone up but this was utterly dismal and so disappointing for £10 My five year old daughter could do a better job of frying this than you did!

It had to be the very worst fish and chips I have ever bought it was in fact inedible and had it not been pouring down with rain I would have returned it to the shop .the batter was not cooked properly the chips hardly cooked at all and still white the whole meal was disgusting .and went into the rubbish bin .

Poor all round fish was passabled doubt it was cod chips were over cooked & full of black bit’s terrible, lad serving had a terrible attitude & obviously hard of hearing or doesn’t understand what open means, waste of money wouldn’t dream of returning.

Popped in for a quick takeaway that wasn’t quick. Waiting for chips to cook in peak time…not good organisation. Chips when I got them were luke warm and soggy…how can this be when they were allegedly fresh out of the fryer. I think I was given the dregs of the previous batch. Then smothered with an ocean of salt rendering them virtually inedible. The jumbo sausage had to be hauled out from under a pile of fried fish. Hmmm…fishy sausage…deep fried to leather hard and inedible. The stressed unhappiness of the staff who are trying to cope with deliveroo orders piling up and not enough of them to cope. No wonder they were complaining about how much they hate their jobs. I should have gone to Blue Ocean…expensive but a pleasant experience and at least their food is edible. What a waste of time and money.

Chips under cooked and hard. First time here for a few years wont be back.

The 2 ladies we saw were very polite, helpful and nothing was a problem to them. We had the pensioners Fish & Chips which included Peas, Bread & Butter plus a hot drink. The fish & chips were cooked perfect portions were generous. When we left we thank the ladies for a wonderful meal the best fish & chips we had for ages. Will be returning there when next in Taunton. There is a good selection of other meals as well and what we saw with other customer looked wonderful. Will order something different to fish & chips next time

Only popped in for a bag of chips and gravy. Absolutely full marks. The two young ladies serving were happy and polite. The chips get my best ever score of 9.5 out of 10. Chippies are lucky to get a 5 for their chips. These were so close to home made perfection and is why I scored them so high. They were chunky, brown and full of real potato.

I've just wasted nearly £9.00 on the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The chips were very dark (totally over cooked) and the fish batter was really soggy, very disappointing as chucked it away after a outlet of chips and a bite of the fish

Fish was dry and the portions of chips were miniscule. Staff were very rude and inattentive. Definitely wouldn’t go back - poor service overall

Elsie and Dennis ordered fish and chips for the residents of Avongrove Court on wed 15 Feb .the residents all enjoyed their lunch .lovely chatty staff .well done xeasy to get to .we walked in and got our fish and chips and burger yummy .

Popped in just before closing time, had chips and fish cake and battered sausage and chips. All hot and very nice. Young girl that served us was very polite and friendly although I could see she was very busy preparing to close she was still smiling thank you

What a little gem of a place. We had the OAP special fish & chips which came with mushy peas, bread & butter and a hot drink. Portions were excellent meal well presented. Chips were first class and not greasy a real pleasure to have. Staff are friendly helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them when asked for information. Definitely will be having another meal at the venue when next in Taunton Prices are very reasonable Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful meal

We had two portions of fish and chips and loved it. A crispy coat of batter has wrapped the juicy fish. The chips were baked to perfection. The service was extremely nice and we felt very comfortable.

Used this Chippy last night and was disgusted at the price of sub-par food, the fish for a medium was tiny and soggy and the chips looked like they had been sitting there for weeks and refried 🤢🤮 will not be going back.

Have used this fish shop for years, but last 3 times the chips were under cooked and the curry sauce vile. Wont go again, great shame the chips are always under cooked. Maybe someone should mention it.

First visit to this Fish and chip shop not the best

I have been a customer for a long time and always had nice food, but this time around it was simply disgusting, had several hairs in my food, chicken was solid and not cooked properly, and most of the chips I had were thrown out due to being black. I suggest people wear a hairnet in the workplace so in future we don’t have to dish out multiple hairs. Very disappointed this time around which is a shame, and felt like a waste of my money.

Good portions, superb home made onion rings, great service, fair prices. Cipa could have been cooked a bit more.

A disappointing first (and last) visit to this Fish and Chip shop. Despite only wanting cod and chips, once we were inside and could order - there were three people in front of us and it took over 20 minutes to get in - it was a further 25 - 30 minutes before we were given our food! The fish was okay but the chips were underwhelming and not worth the wait. A real shame as it is the closest chippy for us but we shall go further afield next time!

Getting served here is like waiting for the ice caps to melt thx to a huge deliveroo crowd outside, ever the optimist all good things are worth waiting for right?! Battered sausage that looked like it had been waiting to be sold for weeks and a curry sauce that was more like discoloured water it was so thin it literally made my chips soggy in seconds and they were my gift to the seagulls. Won't go twice as I prefer some kind of quality in my food when I'm paying for someone to prepare it, you'd be better off hitting mcdees in Taunton or wetherspoons cos these are just disgusting

Just the best fish and chips cooked fresh and always hot and delicious,always go here whenever I visit Taunton and have never been disappointed great menu and plenty of choice even if fish isn't your thing , splendid place friendly service 😊👍

Ordered from these guys a few times and the chips have always been spot on. Would happily order again and again. Can't fault them, always happy to support a local restaurant through the pandemic.

Lovely staff, very helpful and patient, great food

This is a great chippy but can’t understand why they have a pre order system that you have to call and then they give you a time slot to collect, however you turn up at the given time to be told ok we will get that ready for you, then you have to stand outside for 30 mins before it’s ready, pointless and annoying.

The best fish and chips in town by far ...and my dog and I love to stop off and sneak in a battery sausage each lol 😆whilst passing

Have ordered from here before and it’s been fine, but today’s offering was awful. Ordered cod, 2 chicken burgers, nuggets and chips. Chips were fine, albeit only warm, but the fish was covered in oily soggy batter. Had to scrape it off. It was inedible. The chicken burgers were tiny and like the fish, were soggy and limp. The Mayo in the burger tasted of fish and all the meals were cold.

Top quality fish with loads of chips

Visited Howard’s fish and chips this evening and ordered 2 large fish and chips... unfortunately the fish was all batter and hardly any fish and this tasted greasy and batter was over cooked...the chips were nasty dry and tasteless and didn’t seem fresh all this for nearly £16 really disappointed and won’t be visiting again threw away in bin...best make a sandwich!

Have tried this place twice as our usual has been closed. The first time I ordered fish and chips. We couldn't even eat the fish because it was off. Decided to try oneore time to give them the benefit of the doubt. This time ordered a large portion of chips costing around £3.50. It was the smallest large portion of chips I've ever seen. And to top it off, I found a long hair in the food. Never again!

The best fish and chips shop in town by far. Called and asked if they had an item that I wanted that wasn’t on the menu and they went out of their way to make sure I received it. They really go above and beyond. Perfect customer service if I could give more stars I would.

Received an incomplete order which was very expensive for the portions. Rude staff. Won't ever bother again.

Ordered three large fish & chips & two pots of curry sauce through Uber from Howard’s when it was delivered the fish was missing! Telephoned Howard’s who said I had to get a refund from Uber as they couldn’t redo the order, too busy! When I contacted Uber the refund they are going to send for three pieces of fish is £6.44 my order was £21.90Feel let down by Uber & Howard’s beware.

I recall dining at Howards in 1975 and I've eaten in & taken away a number of times since - it's still great. Food is excellent (chips perfectly cooked).

Popped in for a piece of cod for lunch today, to take home . Staff were brilliant, fish hot & fresh & did not know you can order online now for home delivery. Loads of people in restaurant side enjoy a variety of fresh dishes & hot & cold drinks. Place lovely & clean . Recommend you give it a try. Next time going to order home delivery. Happy Christmas to you all

been going here, and the previous shop in Bindon Road for 10 years and have always enjoyed the food. Not dripping in grease, very tasty and well cooked We've tried everyone else in town just to see if we were just biased, but I have to be honest and say this is the one we keep coming back to! Ordering again tonight!

Great friendly service, but I asked for lots of vinegar on my chips and I got lots of salt instead which was not so tasty. Maybe give customers the option to do their own?

I have had two deliveries now in a week as i can never get to this chip shop and in the past i have considered them to be the best in Taunton. Two deliveries this week ordering different items each time, the food was delivered by Uber Eats, i had chips which were dry and shrivelled, a Saveloy which was over cooked and like rubber and a pot of curry sauce which had been placed in the bag on its side and there was no more than a quarter of a pot left, that was £10 down the drain just on each meal that was not edible either times. I wont be ordering again.....

Small shop with friendly staff. Special OAP size portion for those who don't need a huge meal. Well cooked and tasty. Recommended.

Staff are friendly. Concession for oaps. With the meal are mushy peas as well as a pot of tea and a slice of bread with butter. I have discovered that the fish and chips are cooked then and there. There are two rooms to consume the food.

Absolutely disgusting! Ordered through uber eats.....arrived greasy,soggy & for the portion sizes BLOODY expensive!! Would never ever go here again! Star fish bar is a million times better..... DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

Lunchtime meal. Ordered large cod & medium chips. Was informed we would have to wait for it to be cooked. (I'm always pleased when told that because it means food is freshly cooked). Food was very good, hot, cooked properly and with real chips (ie cut from potatoes). This is a proper, old fashioned if you like, fish&chips; shop. Doesn't look fancy but does have a 5star food hygiene rating.

Long establishes traditional fish and chip bar. My mouth waters just to think about it. My appetite is not as big as it once was and this is catered for by the fact that they sell different sizes of fish so that you are not overwhelmed and don't feel bad about wasting some. Large portions available as well. Piping hot and fresh.

This is my local Chip shop and whilst I don't use it as often as I could, I always enjoy my food. I find the owner to be a friendly man, always ready to pass a few words and humorous quips. It's a busy chippy so it must be doing something right.

Had the pensioners special with my wife at lunchtime. As usual, excellent good and great service at a modest price.

My wife & I had the pensioners lunch and it was great. £6.50 for cod & chips, roll & tea. Good was cooked really well, piping hot & served with a smile. A real gem, thanks☺ .
