Table service was excellent, the food more so and the beer better still! Superb to spend a few hours catching up with friends I hadn't seen since covid kicked in. A real find.

Didnt tey food but it loooked like the Sunday roast was definately a tummy filler. Real ale was perfect. Old Slug. Was a busy pub for a Sunday evening. Great atmosphere.

Good genuine pub. Food looks lovely, but not had the opportunity to try it yet. Beer kept very well, as befits it's name! Busy, but friendly, which hopefully means they are doing well and continue to provide a great pub experience.

Popped in here for a quick cider and sat in the beer garden. It was a nice relaxing pint and the atmosphere is good

Great Pub with a friendly atmosphere including friendly cats 🐈 , great food and plenty of ales on offer. Watched a brilliant local band play there called The Upper Hand, who are amazing 👍🍺🕺🏻🎶💃🏼

Nice clean and bright pub with a welcome for all and their dogs. A good selection of ales beers and especially ciders . Unfortunately they have cats which might make your dog anxious

Had the large breakfast, wow could only manage half of it,lol, I suggest you start off small and work your way up,the service was good and the staff friendly, very reasonably priced.

I often choose this place as somewhere to go when I feel like a homecooked meal. The portions are huge, the prices are reasonable, and they taste fantastic. It's a small pub so not much seating, and I imagine it would get busy of a weekend. Definitely try one of the pies, they are a speciality here!

Very friendly and a lovely place to have a drink. Selection of 6 pies and various tap ales made it a lovely place to have tea. We had children with us and they were very accommodating.

Food is really good for us as a family

Wouldn’t normally go for a city centre pub, but went as part of the beer trail. Food exceptionally good value, but also very good quality. Cheeseboard with 3 third pints for £12.50 was easily enough for two and sausage, egg and chips was great for £6.95. Proper farmers’ sausages and homemade chips. I can thoroughly recommend.

Dogs always welcome too. resident cats so be aware of this fact if your dog(s) do not like cats. Live bands at weekends & open late. An overlooked jewel in taunton town.

Had the big breakfast and I reckon this is the best fry up in Taunton. The options. I went for large and couldn’t finish it (less than £10!). Highly recommended.

Went in to eat and we weren't dissapointed. Food was wonderful and nice beer. Staff were very friendly and it made a pleasure to be there. Lots of local regulars who obviously enjoy a beer. It was the night of the football and got very busy but a great atmosphere.

I've had to visit Taunton for the past 7 to 8 weeks and have since then enjoyed many a good night here. Lovely landlady and bar staff and along with some of her customers have taken me under their wing. Not had a chance to eat there due to the time I get there at nights but this is a proper pub, great people, great music and loads of fun.

one of the tastiest breakfasts I've had in a long time...and I've been to many breakfast establishments being a contractor... Excellent value for money... you can swap black pudding for another item... Fresh Espresso coffee etc.. 10 / 10 great job guys.

We went in for a vegetarian breakfast. My friend and I were both desperate for the bathroom and we wanted to use the facilities before getting down to ordering. When I came out my friend said there was no vegetarian breakfast on the menu and I asked them did they ask. Just at that point the bar person came over and barked at us that we had to make a donation because we used the facilities. I tried to explain we were going to eat if they had vegetarian breakfast but she kept on about making a donation and that she'd give me cash back on my card! I looked at the menu and said they didn't have vegetarian options to which she replied they did. I'm sorry but I have NEVER been set about in this manner for using the facilities before ordering and we certainly weren't going to eat there after that ordeal! We left without spending a penny and I'm sure their bank isn't broken by us each spending a penny. Had she not come at us like a bulldog chewing a wasp we might have been more open to staying there for food as pre planned. Edit: I did not show metta to the woman and was resentful for the way we were treated when we attempted to visit the ale house. We had just come away from a 6 weeks out of 16/17 weeks Buddhist working retreat and I was a bit overwhelmed by the first interaction we had with any human outside the project. I am sorry that she is suffering. And maybe business isn't good. May she will learn better like I am learning not to cause offence. I was simply surprised we weren't getting water out of the of their public house without being given the right menu option and being charged for it. With as much kindness in the world, the house that cannot provide a passing stranger a glass of water with being asked for money is a sad house indeed. They need help 🙏✨💕 I should learn the lesson to speak with crystal clear speech with kindness and not idly. May all beings be happy, may all blessings be yours. Namaste 🙏

Nothing was too much trouble for our party of five plus two dogs. The dogs got a huge bowl of water and some optional biscuits - we got some excellent pies and the largest hunters chicken I have ever seen. There was so much we had to skip puddings and have post lunch coffees to get us on our way. Prices very reasonable, music very palatable. If I'm ever passing again, I'll know where to go.

First time in Taunton and called at the King's head. Looked like a nice pub, only problem was no real ale. Less than a 5 minute walk away we came across the Ale house, what a great place 5 real ales on, unfortunately only sampled 2 but they were superb. If I ever visit Taunton again I would definitely pop in for a pint or 6. Also has a great beer garden.

Stopped off at this Pub whilst visiting Taunton for the day and I'm so pleased we did. The lady who served me at the bar was so pleasant. The breakfast we ordered was amazing, hot, fresh and plenty of it, Superb value for money. The pub itself has a really good vibe with 80s tunes playing, doesn't get better than that! Will definitely visit again next time we're in the area. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

The landlady s taste in music is exquisite. Never thought I'd here holiday in Cambodia put on the jukebox.

Came in the first time and had breakfast. Food was okay for the price but waiting over 1hour25minutes for it was not on. there may have been a dozen people in front of us but whats the first thing you do when you see a dozen breakfast orders come in? get 2 dozen sausages and bacon cooking. The bar staff was apologetic but the kitchen needs to sort out their prep. rushing to eat is not healthy.

I played several gigs here and it's a great party pub.

I stopped by the Ale House on my way back to London after visiting Taunton to see Noel perform. Friendly staff and delicious Whole potatoes! Simple but still memorable whole potatoes!

Very friendly place, good choice of beers and ciders. Only ate there once in four visits but food was perfectly OK for the price we paid. Good service, busy but not overcrowded.

We were staying for a weekend nearby and called in for a drink. The pub is really friendly and has a relaxed vibe. A great selection of drinks on offer. We ended up stepping the afternoon playing pool and watching the rugby. The next day we went back for lunch which was really nice. We didn't have the Sunday dinner, but they looked great. I'm also a fan of the cats in the pub. So lovely to see how relaxed they were in the pub.

Me and friend play pool once a month, and have struggled to find a place that serves food and relaxing, because I am ex army and he is ex air force suffering from PTSD. We both visited the Ale house a few weeks ago and noticed they have a very good menu and decided we would give it a go for out afternoon out. Today, we went there and played a few games of pool and both had a ploughman's. Well, what can I say, the food was brilliant, the customer service was above and beyond and to make things so worth the visit, the atmosphere was so relaxing, we both felt at ease. So one a month, we will be visiting the Ale house and using the place for our monthly boys afternoon out. A big thank you to all the staff and management for making us feel welcome and we both will look forward to visiting you soon. On a very final note, i would recommand a visit and try there home cooked food with a nice cool beer. Gets a big thumbs up ftom me and my brother in arms. THANK YOU

We just called in for dinner before a show at the theatre. We ordered a drink and a meal for my wife and I. It was honestly the best Hunters Chicken I have ever had anywhere. Because I am coeliac I asked the chef to ensure there was no gluten. My wife had a cheese baguette and was very pleased as well. The lady then gave us free ice lollies as it was so hot.

Me & my wife visited the Alex house on the night we seen Lionel Richie It was very busy understandably due to its proximity to the cricket club. I had a Sunday dinner & the wife had scampi chips & peas cooked to perfection and piping hot & very good price. Excellent.

AVOID AVOID AVOID! Allows members of drunk staff to hit men in the face which is on cctv as seen by police and continues to keep that woman member of staff working there.

Stopped off for a quick pint before getting our train. There was a person repeatedly shouting racist abuse about foreign people generally... p******s and n*******s, and where they should go... the bar staff were tolerating this. Clearly this is something they are unashamed about. This went on for the duration of our drink. Here's looking at you Taunton

Quite simply, great food at very reasonable prices. Cooked to order and very generous proportions! We called in today after a medical appointment, the lady who served us was very friendly and welcoming, I would definitely recommend the Ale House.

The Ale House is an absolute gem! We’ve tried al the bigger named establishments offering full English breakfasts, but this one beats them all hands down! The food, staff, atmosphere was fantastic! Amazing value for money!

Staff friendly, decent service... It's a pub at end of the day. My only reason for loss of star is there wasn't really bitters only ale and it was on cask. Not draught. That's my only quarrel. However there wasn't really any other complaints, loos were relatively well maintained also for a pub.

Came In for a couple drinks and games of pool with my partner… the football was on so we sat down to watch it.. the landlady was stood behind my partner so he turned around and said she was welcome to come sit at the table with us and her response was “I wouldn’t want to sit next to you” she looked down her nose at him for absolutely no reason! She was soo rude even a customer said “she didn’t mean to be rude” when it’s very clear she had a problem with us being there.. Her hospitality, presence and manners around the pub was shocking and disappointing! Such a shame because the lady behind the bar was lovely and welcoming!

Just finished an early light night shift - freezing cold weather popped into my local pub Had a Christmas Digestif and noticed the Specials and the kitchen still open Highly recommend the Brie Bites with a healthy mixed salad and tender Pork Belly Bites with sesame and noodles Not to be missed .. The pictures don’t do it justice and cannot be defined with my food vocabulary and gastronomic
