Hi. Just wanted to email about my unsatisfactory interaction I had last night from the young girl working behind the bar. I tried to send this privately to you but there was not enough space to write what I wanted to write. First impression wasn’t great. We walked in and up to the bar (where no-one else was stood) but rather than walking over and saying hi, she just stood at the till in the corner looking at us… bit weird and stand offish if you ask me, not friendly customer service at all and felt that it is an effort to crack a smile for her. So… I walked over and ordered two double rums and said that we were looking to play shuffleboard. She looked to see if they were free (both tables were) and told me that she’s not bothered to collect the equipment back in and it’s all still over there. Ok… then asked me if we would like 30 mins or an hour. We opted for an hour. I paid for £27 for the shuffleboard and the drinks She then poured the rum and bought them to the front of the bar where I asked her if they were doubles (working in a bar before I could see they were not). She said “oh, no. I misheard you” and went to put another measure in. Fine, no problem. When she gave me the drinks I went to pay for the extra shots and she was like “I charged you for doubles” without even looking at the till. So… she knew what I ordered, tried to swindle me and then lied when she said she had misheard me. Not good especially considering she was already lacking in the customer service department. Not only that, we then walk over to the shuffleboard to find another group of people approaching the tables and start playing for free on the table next to ours after I’ve just paid whatever I had paid. So why is she charging me but not charging other people?? We stayed around 20 mins and left. It’s a shame because the place itself looks lovely and is in a lovely location. But your staff have let you down with the weird atmosphere. If the staff were a bit more welcoming and friendly I would be more inclined to make a beeline for this place. Instead, the only reason we went last night was for the shuffleboard… and even that was a disappointment.

Fave pub in Taunton, super friendly staff and best quiz going! Always a good range of different pints and the bar staff are always knowledgable and helpful :)

Ordered a steak and ale pie. The pie was huge and looked good, unfortunately it was as hard as a rock, it should have come with a kango! When I got it open it was completely burnt on the inside and not a single piece of steak in sight. It's an ok place to stop for a drink but avoid the steak and ale pie 😂

Ate at this venue on 15th August. Was ill within 30 minutes of leaving this venue and had to go back to our holiday accommodation to recover. My husband and I ate steak and ale pie. Had we been told when ordering our food that it was regenerated food - bought in semi cooked and reheated we all would have left. Only found out because pink steak ordered did not arrive at the table pink !! Would not recommend

Great pub with lovely and witty slogans. Loved the sharing options and the English wine. Definitely to return to when in the neighbourhood! ❤️

We (three adults) visited The Hideout on Wednesday evening. The young lady serving us was very polite. We asked if food was available to be told it was. Get a table and order at the bar. So we decided on our food order and went to the bar. The order was for two burger meals and fish and chips. The waitress then visited us at our table to tell us there weren't any burghers (!!!!). So we changed for fish and chips and thought no more of it. Another visit from the waitress to then tell us there wasn't any fish (!!!). So we changed to steak and ale pie with fries. Another visit form the waitress to tell us they didn't have fries only chips. At that point i asked if it was easier to tell me what food they had, and in fact, why weren't we told this before we ordered? At that point, i restated that there weren't any burgers, there wasn't any fish and there weren't any fries? The waitress apologised. I told her to forget about food. We would drink up and leave. I did suggest that for a restaurant such as it was, to not have the basics of food was disgraceful and whoever did the ordering needed sacking! I further suggested that they shouldn't even charge us for the drink each we had. There was a lady from management at the bar who had a few mumbles and comments, but did offer to refund us the drinks cost. I accept things do run out, but this place is all about burgers, fish, chips etc. Really??? I think the most annoying part was we could have been told when we were about to order food rather than going through a charade i suppose in what appears to be the management (or chef??) hoped we picked something they had got! After three attempts, we gave up!!

Staff were brilliant… ladies behind the bar were awsome, pint was awsome… the food however… really let down… apparently steak only come in options of pink or cooked through…. Flat iron steak, (didn’t say the weight) arrived chopped up. Really disappointed. Will come again, won’t eat here again.

£20! For three drinks?!!!!! Why so much money. Archers and lemonade and two ciders?! That's not normally that much money?

Ordered food at the bar, waited over 40minutes in a near empty bar for cold food that had clearly been under the hot lights for 10minutes. The chips were the only edible thing on the plate. The front of house staff were clueless until I asked them how long it would be. Then told me they were going to give the guy in the kitchen a stern word….

Very welcoming and attentive manager who truly cares about the venue and his customers. Excellent customer service with some great non Green King beers. I opted for the "Suds" beer which is made by a brewery from Belfast and it was very nice. I'll be returning for sure.

Love this pub! Brilliant selection of interesting beers, proper pub quiz on a Thursday evening, TV for sports but sport doesn't dominate, super fun Shuffle tables, great staff and generally a beautiful building to enjoy! Currently enjoying a pint in the beautiful dappled sunshine of an early summer's evening. Perfect!

Feel so gutted as this place is usually such a great place to have drinks. Just do not recommend the food. Went here with my partner on a Saturday night. The place was lively as expected so when we got to the bar we asked for our table reservation. We went and sat down. We had to order at the bar which was absolutely fine, think lots of places do that now. When we ordered we were told the cocktail I had asked for was out of stock, not a problem so I chose a different one, then we ordered the steak and bbq chicken but was told the steak was not on the till, luckily i believe it was the chef that served us so they managed to put everything through and we took our seats while grabbing our drinks too. We didn’t have to wait long for the food and as it was Saturday it would have been understandable if we did. What really bothered us however is the state the food arrived to us at and the service following. The bbq chicken looked fine, it was abit cold which was a shame but we aren’t ones to complain so my partner just carried on and ate it. It was only later he discovered the middle of the chicken breast was undercooked and bright pink. I wish I had taken a photo but he refused to touch it then after he’d noticed. The steak I had ordered was asked for ‘medium’ but it was well done, dry, stone cold and chopped up. The only reason I can imagine it had arrived pre cut was the lack of cutlery we were given. When given the food we were told ‘I’ll just get some cutlery, do you want any sauces’ in which we asked for salt and pepper and tomato sauce. We sat for 5 minutes waiting on this while our food got colder and colder only later to see the our server walking around outside assuming on a break. My partner got up to ask again for cutlery in which we were told the kitchen were ‘making some up now’. Another 10 minutes go on and nothing. We were so hungry by this point I had pretty much eaten my meal with my hands. My partner went up to the bar a third time to ask for cutlery as he didn’t want to get bbq sauce all over him in which the poor bartender had to grab some quickly. We didn’t bother with sauces in the end and after the pink chicken my partner just wanted to leave. We both did. During all of this aswell we were seeing other customers being served fries and snacks WITH cutlery and sauces. It was so disappointing as we had reserved this table for an occasion and were really let down. I understand Saturdays are busy but with that level of service on meals I would just stick to serving drinks and snacks. Don’t bother offering a food menu. To top it off my partner ended up getting food poisoning and spending the next day in bed with a sick bucket. Never had such a bad experience.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, suitable for a family of all ages . Good food and friendly, helpful staff made our evening most enjoyable.

Hello, I had a few hours to wait for a bus today so I thought I'd have a quiet pint in what I thought looked like a nice pub.I bought a pint of beer and quietly sat down,I was the only person who appeared to be watching the tele,I asked if they could maybe put the cricket on one of the channels, I had no reply ,so I asked his colleague who told me to google it,he never came back,I was shocked at their service and attitude. I felt as if they looked down upon me in my Adidas shorts on a nice sunny day,would of stayed and had a few more but felt I was not welcome . Can't comment on the food ,I'm sure it's lovely ,but a bricklayer earing 60,000 a year has no right to sit at a table due to what he wares, This is maybe the first official moan I've ever felt the need to do .

We came up from Exeter for Mother's day lunch, to be told there no Sunday roasts available. Not great GreenKing...

This place has seen a real turnaround in recent months, and is now a really welcoming pub that caters for all sorts of different audiences and does it with aplomb! Fantastic selection of drinks, good pub grub and I see had now started doing traditional roasts on a Sunday and opening in the mornings for what looked like cracking value breakfasts. The beer selection is rotational and they've had a really interesting array of hazy pales, Belgian beauties, 8% fruit beer belters and pilsners. I love that you never quite know what's going to be on offer. Good for a spot of sport watching or just a few drinks and/or a bite to eat with friends and family. Can't wait for the warmer weather again for some people watching on Castle Green from the beer garden! Plus, there's a castle next door!

Very disappointed in my first and last visit to the hideout in Taunton. Staff were very friendly and my dog was welcomed but the food was awful I had the fish cakes with salad and sour cream. The fish cakes were over cooked an brittle and pretty tasteless. The price worked out as £6 per fish cake with two baby tomatoes two slices of cucumbers and some very peppery rocket leafs. My daughter had the macaroni cheese arrived in a bowl looking like it came out of a can was very anaemic no bread crumbs or extra cheese or taken the time to pop under to be grilled before serving came with garlic bread that looked fine then side order of soggy undercooked onion rings. Then decided to share a portion of brownies in As so disappointed.. was looking forward to the meringue and fresh fruit it was described as a waffles, brownie chunks with fruit reduction and fresh strawberries and raspberries Basically it look like dog food literally look as someone had thrown it on the plate, mushed it all together the manager served it to us saying no fruit or drizzled fruit reduction. With an apology…. It arrived basically cubes of brownies and random cut up waffles the a small amount of meringues crushed up.. no care whatsoever with presentation even tho we were both hungry it was barely touched. Well over priced food and to be honest my six year old prepared cooked and presented food much better.. I am not one for complaining but felt it was necessary. £59 price with one drink each was absolute rip-off. WILL NOT RETURN 😞

We went for a birthday meal with the family. It was a perfect choice as we had mixed age children. The space was great but still managed to keep a warm atmosphere. We didn’t have to wait long for food or drinks. The food was ok, what you’d expect for a pub. Staff were really friendly and super helpful. I’d definitely recommend it.

came in for dinner, the place had a great atmosphere. we all had a good time on the shuffle games table. definitely somewhere we will be returning as it’s one of the more chilled places we’ve been too. the staff were lovely and very accommodating

Vibrant and great new experience and venue

Ordered at 12.47pm when there were no more than a dozen customers in the pub. Enquired about our order when nothing had arrived after 30 minutes and were told they would "chase the kitchen". It arrived shortly afterwards but was one of the worst pub meals I have ever experienced. The sourdough containing my chicken & bacon sandwich was dry and stale and my wife's scampi unappetizing. When asked by staff how the meal had been I replied honestly "grim". She apologised and said there were "problems in the kitchen today". Well, if you can't provide a half decent meal after an unacceptable wait, don't bother, just close the kitchen

An unfortunate visit... (Shuffleboard was good though) Made to leave the premises at the request of the manager. Suspected of 'doing a bag' in the toilets ! Respecting the fact that any business is in effect private property and that they can refuse admission to anyone without reason, if a reason is given, which it was, it needs to be qualified ! Avoid (unless you think you can go all night without a piss)

Christmas Dinner at the Hideout, to be honest it wasn't my choice and I was a little sceptical, having previously experienced very disappointing Restaurant Christmas dinners. However, the Christmas dinner was well beyond my expectations and the staff were just lovely. It was an excellent choice of venue.

We had our Christmas Dinner at the Hideout and we were all delighted from start to finish. We had a very warm welcome as we arrived. We also had a really delightful waitress (I wish I could remember her name) who kept a close eye on making sure we didn't lack for anything. Paul and Freddy, the manager and assistant manager, also were friendly and attentive. We really liked our table with plenty of space around it. The meal was absolutely superb, not easy to achieve for a full house all having a three course roast dinner. Refreshingly the vegetables were not over cooked either. All presented at a relaxed and leisurely pace. And the price was right!! A huge thank you to everyone for making our Christmas Day happy and memorable, you will be seeing us again soon. A very Happy New Year to you, Fiona.

A bit pricey on the drinks and a bit noisey for me. I was most disappointed to find it had been renamed from " The ClarkesTap" a name this pub had for over 100 years. And they call it progress!

Good pub in the centre of Taunton.

Ordered the Steak and Ale pie with chips and garden peas and a glass of Merlot. The glass was dirty and i got a new clean glass but with the wine that had been in the dirty one. The dinner arrived and the garden peas were like bullets. If you cook peas, put the leftovers in the fridge overnight and then heat them up again, this is what they look like. Small, shriveled and completely wrong. Sent the dinner back, but after 2 mins the pie returned with the message that the new peas would come soon. They did come, but it was soon pretty clear that the pie had probably suffered the same fate, the knife and fork were only just strong enough to cut through the pie crust. All in all a very, very forgettable meal.

Great atmosphere however.... Fish bones still in the fish, we raided this just to let them know and the manager was adamant to put it right and offered a refund, I turned down twice but he insisted.... great?? I then went to the bar after finishing as requested, to get a refund. The manager wasn't to be found for 15-20 mins and then when he came back seemed really reluctant to refund the meal making me feel really awkward..... really weird encounter and put me off going back.

Quiet pub, waited nearly 35 minutes for 2 meals and we were the only 2 clients eating in the pub. Food wasn't hot, wasn't good quality and prices were a little on the high side, (but it may be standard I the area). I would not visit again if I was in the area.

If i hadn't paid for the food up front, i would have paid for the drinks not the food. Food luke warm burgers tasteless. But would have left my name and address and taken my chances going to Court i think the publicity would be negative.

Had a very bad experience today. We ordered food through the app but drinks didn’t arrive till we finished our meal. My partner ordered flat iron stake cost 16.95 but it’s not worth the money. The portion is very small and a small piece of meat. Not very satisfied.

Nice venue, with a great selection of drinks, didn't try any food options. It was a pleasant mid week visit, with a nice central location and not too far from local amenities. I certainly plan to return and enjoy another evening with good drinks and better company!

Quiet evening during half term, family dinner for 6 easily catered for. 4 hand pumps, 2 ales from green king and 2 ciders one Perry which is nice to see.

Prior to booking the Hideout for a family celebration, I called first to ask of they could cater for a gluten allergy and offer a vegetarian Sunday dinner option. The person I spoke with advised me to put this in the request when booking as they do not always offer Sunday roasts every Sunday, but they would respond accordingly to my booking request. As directed, I completed the booking for 18:00 Sunday the 22nd of October. 48hrs later, I received confirmation of my booking, so assumed all was well. On arrival at 17:55 on the 22nd, we were met with a sign on the bar stating that the kitchen was closed. I asked the lady behind the bar if this included pre-bookings, which I was told yes without any further explanation or apology. They had both my email and mobile number, the could have emailed, called or even text to explain, but instead waited for me to travel, park and walk to the venue. Horrendously bad customer service levels, and I will certainly not be returning to a Green King pub in the future.

Perfect place to relax with your friends and have a pint. Really nice atmosphere, the staff members are all very friendly and approachable. And the shuffl table is good fun. The outside seating area is lush in the summer with a nice view and facing the sun. Would definitely recommend it for a evening out or even just for a couple of pints. PS the food is quite good too! 👌🏻

Great selection of beers, including a choice of craft beers. Lots of wine, draught ciders and spirits to choose from too. We had a selection of the small plates and the sticky chicken and calamari were particularly good (and perfect beer nibbles!). A warm welcome from the person behind the bar and we were offered tasters of the wide selection of draught to help us choose. Looked like people were having a great time playing the shuffleboards too!

Good service..However pretty awful fish and chips..Fish was soggy and the chips were undercooked..Tasted like oven chips that weren't done in the oven long enough..Very disappointed..

The Atmosphere is amazing but the service is poor. Busy night with loads of people waiting at the bar and only 1 person serving.This is not acceptable.

Pretty nice, I'd change my review to a 5* when I experience being at the venue some more as I was only there for an hour and a half. My redbull was a overpriced for a teeny can but it does seem quite a posh establishment so that's to be expected.

Booked a table for 5. Emailed ahead to say it was for 2 people’s special birthdays. Arrived and went to bar to be greeted by a rude bartender who couldn’t hardly speak or even crack a smile. Taken to a table by the door which he wiped off and left, no menus no pleasantries. We moved to another table as the doors were open and it was cold and smoky as people outside smoking. We found ourselves some menus and went to the bar to order as we had no instruction on if orders are taken for us. We obviously intended to order 5 meals ( hence booking a table) but we didn’t even get as far as the cocktails! We ordered 5 cocktails, 3 of which we couldn’t have as they had no mixer for the ones we wanted. Our second choice we couldn’t have either as they had no blood orange gin, the 3rd choice we couldn’t have because they had no pineapple juice. It was 6.30 on a Saturday evening!! The bar man was totally unapologetic and to be honest it seemed he was used to it. I’d like to add this bar man was not the rude guy who showed us to our table. After our 3rd choice of drinks being a no go we were so disappointed that we didn’t order our food and we left. This was for a special birthday celebration ….Totally disappointed and had to go somewhere else to eat and get cocktails. Terrible customer service, absolutely no apology and definitely not made to feel like a valued customer… shocking service!

Very underwhelming experience. Food and drink are both expensive and not worth it. My steak was served cold and the general portion size for the price was unacceptable. Other dishes were served and looked a much better option. Based on this experience I would return but definitely order something else

At least 4 tables uncleaned for 1 hour whilst bar staff sat on a customer table and laughed Ordered on the app food came before the drinks asked about the drinks and was told the bar staff “probably weren’t looking” I asked the bar staff to clean the table as it was dirty from previous customers and he said “for f*ck sake” and flicked old food everywhere with a wet paper towel. £40 down the drain better spent at McDonald’s. Do not recommend! Visit on 9th September at 2:25pm.

It was sooooooo busy that the queue for the bar was out of the door. There were not enough staff to cope. The ordering app was problematic at best. I have been here a few times in the past 3 years and there is always some problem with the service.

I came here for some food yesterday and wasn’t impressed, i had the scampi chips and peas, the peas came out frozen and when i brought this to a member of staffs attention they replied with ‘’ yeah this happens all the time’’ probably won’t visit again for food

The hideout looks lovely, decorated really nicely and has a nice atmosphere. But unfortunately we had a terrible experience on Bank Holiday Monday. It took 20 minutes just to place our order at the bar when the place was practically empty. 45 minute wait on food turned out to be over an hour, to then be told it would be a further 20 minutes. Pretty much half of the menu was unavailable/sold out. The fridges behind the bar were empty apart from a few bottles dotted around. We were so hungry and fed up by that point that we left and had a refund. However, based on previous reviews I'm guessing this is a rare occurrence and we were unlucky!

Absolutely appalled by our visit to this pub. Not enough staff, only 2 bar staff working on Bank Holiday Monday and the barman was lazy, in my opinion. Most of the menu had sold out, even after a 45 minute wait our order was still being prepared. Only then we were told another 20 minute wait making the total wait time over an hour. Tables were not cleaned and glasses not collected. Totally unprepared for bank holiday foot fall. Embarrassing and totally let down.

We booked for food in the evening and when we arrived there was a lengthy queue at the bar. Asked someone who sorted a table but said you need to queue at the bar to order food and drink. Very understaffed it took 45 minutes for the queue to go down. I was advised it was a 45 minute wait for food, so 90 minutes after our reservation time. The food didn't actually take that long, about 20 minutes and it was actually really nice.

No craft beer again flilt eye is NOT a craft beer .please stock beaverton and tiny rebel used to have 2 of each. .kind regards steve

Great place to visit daytime for a coffee and catch up and the evening changes to More of a music and entertainment environment, great staff and food was quick and delicious will definitely be back

I went to the hideout with my family a few months ago and I liked it. I liked the food and drink a lot. After I ordered it didn’t take long for it to come to me. Meanwhile, I played on the shuffle boards in the corner of the room and i loved it. I liked shuffle a lot.

Afternoon lunch, go to a bar full of glasses with what looks like one lone pre-pubescent guy running the whole pub, ask for drinks for the adults and a glass of milk for the child. The lad couldn’t find milk on the till so had to ask the imaginary GM what to do, only to be told they don’t sell milk by the glass, nor do they have milk for coffee should you wish. I could clearly see a 4 pint milk in the fridge so not exactly sure why they couldn’t just pour a glass and charge a fee for it…? Moving onto the food, not too long a wait but upon arrival the scampi had seen the inside of a crematorium furnace for a tad too long and came out like 6 lumps of charcoal, only to be returned for a replacement. The nachos had cheese which hadn’t melted and rock hard guacamole. At this point half way through us all eating we decided not to get another and just get refunded for this dish. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Normally enjoy the hideout for the drinks and shuffle board but definitely won’t be eating here again.

Came to visit taunton during the summer holidays and my family and I stayed in the hotel opposite as we watched the cricket. The pub looks beautiful and is in an idyllic setting in the county town. The menu looked inviting so we tried. The staff there were so attentive and suggested that we should try the sharer plates. I can certainly recommend 👌 and there was so much. We throughly enjoyed the hideouts atmosphere and how the staff really connect with the customers. The lady with the pink hair is extremely funny and you can tell she really values the staff and has their best interests at heart. All the staff love her and that is amazing to see how hard they all work. We will be back for sure. Keep up the good work.

My friends and I came in to watch the Wales and England rugby on Saturday. We were told that it wasn't on which was disappointing 😕. We were about to leave when the manager came down and over heard us talking. She asked why we were going and we explained, she then said to get another drink and they were showing it. WINNER! The pub soon got busier and what an amazing atmosphere! Was such a great vibe and customer service was great. Looking forward to returning to watch the rugby World Cup next month.

Bar service was lovely. They were friendly and really made an effort. Menu looked awesome but the food was below average on arrival. Rubbish chips, grey ‘heatlamped’ peas and tasteless, dry beef burger. Katsu chicken burger was nice though.

Friday lunchtime. First time visit. No customers, no atmosphere and seemingly no food as the first two things we tried to order weren’t available. Staff functional at best. Easy to see why it was empty.

had a wonderful experience, the ambience was amazing and the customer service was definitely up to standard. the lady with pink hair was so friendly and knowledgeable! she looked after our group and dealt with other customers brilliantly. we felt very comfortable in this venue thanks to the treatment from the staff. come here for a guaranteed good night!

This is my second time at hideout and once again I’m very pleased. The environment is just great! I don’t get to go out a lot so when I do I always want to go somewhere that’s worth it and Hideout is definitely worth it. The drinks have been great and the staff are really nice! I’ll be coming back again that’s for sure.

I had family and friends down from the south coast and came for a lunch time drink,and some for at mid day,the quality of food and drink,and staff were so good,we never left till eight o'clock that night,we all had a fantastic time.

Shame no local beer on tap like Otter

The pub itself is nice and the staff also , I’ve had 2 meals here now and to be honest I was underwhelmed on the last occasion but thought I would give it another go , I’ve been in the hospitality sector for 30 years and now I don’t chef or run pubs have time to visit other establishments I don’t understand how companies think it’s acceptable to send out food that is not what is specified on the menu ?? We ordered cod goujons. With pea shoots and lemon and nachos with cheese , nacho cheese sauce salsa guacamole and sour cream, all ordered and paid for no mentions of any shortages or replacement!! The food arrived no pea shoots or lemon 4 small overcooked cod goujons , and the nachos I wish I’d taken a picture no sour cream or cheese , when we asked the server he said they had no peashoots or lemon , no sour cream or cheese ?? So you didn’t tell us so we could make a different selection or there is no way that a team member couldn’t have gone to a local supermarket and picked up these items? I eat out rarely and was very disappointed even though we were just having snacks with the 2 bottles of wine we purchased I think that we should have been made aware of this on ordering and making payment , I will return for a drink but will not order food again

Hideout in Taunton at 10 pm incredibly quiet. Four couples declined entry as there were more than two people queuing at the bar. Doormen turning down hundreds of pounds of business from local and sober people who took their money elsewhere. Far busier premises took our cash. Disappointed, not for us as customers, but for the owners.

Dear poor service, finally forget this place

Large portion of the menu was unavailable as well as the beer I was after. Never got one of my sides... The food that did arrive was pretty good (I had the steak) The ciders on tap were pretty nice

We had some meals and it was brilliant cooked well and very tasty would recommend to anyone
