I like to support local business so I visited today and gave Weatherspoons a miss...what a mistake! £9 for a baked potato with cheese ( which really was poor quality ) and an 'orange ' juice which tasted very watery...to be avoided !

Terrible service! Decided to try this cafe out for a change, we won't be returning! Waited 15 minutes to be served. When we were finally greeted myself and my mother in law felt awkward, the lady was rude, grumpy and snappy. I asked for a panini and chips! To which I was told the mexican chicken panini, press wasn't on so I would have to wait! This was at 1pm lunchtime ! I then asked could I have the mexican chicken in the baguette instead. To which I was told no unfortunately as its not on the menu. Very dissatisfied visit and won't be visiting again!

A great place for a meal or snack. Always a friendly welcome and kids love their food

Cold chips cold beans and when I told the lady behind the till, she said it's because they were busy! I used to really like it in there but I won't go again.

The food and drink is really nice and the staff are wonderfully accommodating, it’s a lovely cafe restaurant. The atmosphere is very social and thoughtful. I recommended coming here, enjoy :)

Non friendly staff, only one of 3 who served us spoke, chips, were hard, scampi crunchy and hard, fish was over cooked even the knife had a job to cut it, Won't be going back there,

Every time I go out with my daughter we always have dinner there. It's a friendly place to relax and eat in.

One of the best burgers I had till now. Especially the burger bun is so soft and delicious. Fries are crispy as you expect. Just GOOD FOOD, GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD ATMOSPHERE 👌

We often pop in for a snack and drink when in the centre. Good coffee and quick table service.

Super friendly staff, but the food was a nightmare. Steak and Ale pie was a greasy mess that tasted as if it had been re-heated. Omelette was oily and flavourless, and came with a mountain of chips.

We visitors from SA for the last 2 yrs, and the best place for a great brunch. In your summer time it's quite hot in restaurant not air circulation. Friendly staff and great food.

I had the Double Sausage, bacon and chips meal with a Cappuccino and it was great quality with great taste. My partner went for a omelette which she said was nice with a tea. Staff very polite and service is quick. Highly recommended and will be visiting when I am next in the area.

I love this café and have used it for 9 years. All the staff are so friendly and courteous. Food is excellent and served promptly. Happy, warm atmosphere. Highly recommended.

First time in Bedford and we came across this lovely cafe. Excellent service, the gentleman was so friendly and polite. I have never been served so quickly in my life. The food was perfect, I cannot fault this place at all. If you haven't tried this place, then it's a must. 10/10

I have visited this restaurant for a while now. I do have to say, there is a good choice and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I had a bake potato and cheesy chips, potato was nice, I think they really need to sort their portion size out, as with the chips only a portion for one and the plate size is enough for two people, I had to move it onto the potato plate. I will continue visiting in the future

Really filling food! Me and my Mum popped in the Howard Restaraunt for a good meal, and we got one! Overall good meal, and the staff is very understanding and likeable. Recommened this place for Brunch.

Yeah not too bad! Huge and looks like a catering place more than a restaurant, inside . Tables aren't bad, but still split in rows and look all the same . The omelette is ok, not that golden color u would like and a bit burned. Chips taste a bit undercooked unless they're homemade, coleslaw is lovely ! They also do healthy smoothies. Staff barely speak English and talk in their own language. Wasn't busy but still service is good. Would come here if shopping at harpur as is the only eating place. Not sure if the lunch is any good ! Have a try, is good value.

We both ordered a fried breakfast but unfortunately the sausages we received tasted like the cheapest possible freezer sausages you could find (very unpleasant). Other than that, it was pleasant but average. The server was very friendly and the strawberry milkshake was lovely.

I've never had a dull meal here. It's great value for money! The customer service is usually excellent although this time we got a "slap on the wrist" for taking a menu from another table. The waitor actually leaned across our table and took the menu back whilst we were having our coffees. We were in a good mood so we just laughed it off! I came with my mum and we had 2 big main meals, 2 cold drinks, 2 coffees and 2 puds all for under £20. Very tasty too! I will be going back, I've been going years, it's cheap and cheerful food!

This is the place to go, the food is always good, the staff are really pleasant, the place is spotlessly clean. In my opinion, best cafe in Bedford and very reasonably priced!

We had walked from the cinema car park via the river and wanted breakfast. I had remembered the over 20 years I had been to the cafe in the was then Howard centre so I suggested if it was still there we would go and see if they did breakfast which they did. There was a good selection of breakfast choices with the best fried eggs I have tasted. So we had two cooked breakfasts a tea a coffee and to as twice came to under £15. What value for money as all the ffod was cooked purfectly and really hot. The only complaint was the are plates were never taken away but a small gripe. I will be returning.

Great place eat. Great service and friendly helpful staff. Good choice of meals. Never have to wait long to get our meal. They will cook food according to your liking. Child friendly and very considerate of people with disabilities. A lady who was suffering came into the café and they were more than happy to let her sit until she had regained her breath.

It was very romantic to come here again because it was our ( my husband and me) first coffee place 3,5 years ago. We had a seat at same table. We had lovely coffee with milk and pancakes with cream and cherry. It was very tasty. Good food, great service. Thank you!

I've been to this little café a few times now and have always had fresh lovely food served with a smile. Great value for money too. Will I be going back. Oh yes, at the drop of a hat. Thank you Howards café.

Not very often that you ask Chef for well done bacon and you get it done perfectly. The food is excellent and the milk shakes are brilliant. Decor is nice and the staff are friendly. Worth a visit.

We come here often to cobine shopping with the grandchildren and getting them some lunch and/or milkshakes. The staff are always very friendly and the food is always good.

We had been here for breakfast before and decided to have some lunch after doing some shopping. We were greeted at the door by the owner and made to feel welcome.

This place used to be a very popular "caff" and was always full, but it seemed noisy and not a place to relax.

The first time I used this was with my Daughter and I had been doing some Christmas Shopping and decided to have a break and treat us to food and drink.

We stopped at the Howard Café & Restaurant for breakfast before going shopping in Bedford; we had not been there before.
