We found out today our favourite and usual go to dog friendly restaurant has decided to become very do UN-friendly, so we had to scramble around to find somewhere to go tonight. My wife found the terrace online and we were able to book in at short notice. First impressions were that the outside looked nice, if a bit Fawlty Towerish, but there was a very friendly member of staff on reception and we were shown straight into the dining area, past some happy people having some pre dinner drinks. Restaurant area was, well, rustic, but the view was absolutely spectacular. We were looking out to sea and I was able to see the lighthouse at the lizard which is always a lovely sight. We were more than happy with this and the dogs quickly settled down. The thing that really earned the five star rating though was the food. I had the market fish of the day and my wife the seafood chowder. Both were incredible and considering the quality of them, they were reasonably priced too. Whenever there is an affogato on the menu my wife's eyes light up and I was tempted woth the cheese board. Again both were lovely and all of the staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Our bill was just under eighty pounds (without drinks, we just had water) and we were very happy to pay that for such good quality food. One slight downside was there was a bit of a draft which meant I had to wrap my twelve year old pooch in my cardigan to keep him warm, but all in all I would recommend to anyone. We are booked in for Sunday lunch now too and are hoping that is just as impressive!!

The Terrace, Lizard: A Taste of the Cornish Coast The Terrace restaurant in Lizard offers a prime location with stunning sea views. We opted for the classic choice of catch of the day and a burger. both dishes were enjoyable, and offered reasonable value for money. The fresh, local catch was cooked well and showcased the best of Cornwall's seafood.. The burger was tasty and came with lovely homemade fries! The restaurant undoubtedly benefits from its picturesque setting and The restaurant staff were very friendly and welcoming and made for an overall pleasant experience….. the only less positive thing I could say would be the prices for the wine. We would return 😊

We came across The Terrace when walking the South West Coast path. The views from the restaurant of the Atlantic and countryside of the Lizard Peninsula are breathtaking. The new spring lunch menu has a variety of options whether you’re looking for a light lunch, or a heartier meal after a day exploring the coastline. We went for traditional crab sandwiches which were absolutly delicious. We will definitely be returning!

We decided to give this place another chance after a terrible experience a couple of years ago. The view and setting remains as spectacular as ever. Sadly so does the service which can only be described as inept and does not reflect on the two young ladies who were obviously trying hard but on the owners who once again seemed to have provided little or no training and were conspicuous by their absence. A few examples: on arrival ordered a Coke Zero, it took ten minutes for the waitress to bring a bottle of Diet Coke in the bottle to show me they had no Coke Zero. I don't like Diet Coke so asked them for a tomato juice with worcester sauce. After another ten minutes I asked where my drink was and was told " we don't normally serve this, so it is in another part of the hotel but will be here soon". Bizarre response or what? We ordered fish and chips for both of us and were told it was haddock. I pointed out the board said it was cod. I was told this was from yesterday and the waitress attempted to tell me the difference between the two fish. She seemed put out when I told her I knew the difference between haddock and cod and was merely pointing out that the information on the board needed updating. The food finally arrived an hour after we had arrived and was well presented and cooked perfectly. We thought we might have a dessert but the waitress did not offer us the menus when she cleared our plates. Ten minutes later we asked for the menus which duly arrived but after another 10 minutes there was no sign of anyone coming to ask us what we would like. It was at this point we had had enough and decided to leave. We went to the bar to pay the bill and when presented with it could see it was clearly incorrect. Interestingly another set of customers seemed to be equally unimpressed as we were.

Restaurant to avoid. Went for an evening meal with guests. Unfortunately there was also a supper club on at the same evening. Ordered battered fish and chips. The fish appeared to have been kept warm for a long time and was dark brown batter with dry fish. The chips were greasy and soggy. The plates were cold and in an attempt to overcome this the entire meal was served on a piece of paper which covered the plate. In spite of the wonderful view from the restaurant I thought this meal overpriced and of extremely poor quality

I can't think of a restaurant that is situated in such a beautiful part of Cornwall and offers such an exciting menu as the Terrace. I enjoyed an extremely tasty Dirty Dog hot dog with some home made fries and a Rose Garden cocktail - and woah, they did not disappoint. Loved that all the ingredients were locally sourced too. We came here as it was quite late and we couldn't be bothered to drive around and look for somewhere. I had read reviews and thought we'd take a chance...but I wish we had gone elsewhere. I had the pork belly, which as absolutely tiny and was £17 and I was fuming about that, it didn't even have a good taste either :( my boyfriend had a glamourized hotdog which was £15, which he didn't like. It was incredibly overpriced for the amount you got. We also ordered focaccia to start and then had two slices of tiny bread each and it was cold, which is my pet hate, it's just not pleasant eating cold bread. So yeah dinner was not great at all. However we did enjoy our breakfast every day, I personally thought the portion sizes of breakfast were fine, if they had been any bigger it would have been too much. I also thought being given an individual cafetiere for coffee was a nice touch. I noticed the toast being exceptionally hard as someone else said, it was difficult to cut through it but that would be my only gripe with breakfast. The staff were pleasant enough and fairly attentive.

Housel Bay hotel has such potential. The view is probably the best I've seen in Cornwall and there's a coastal path accessible directly from the garden. It's a shame the restaurant is so disappointing. We booked the restaurant because we felt like having fish or seafood. As we're looking at the menu, we are told there is no cod, no mussels, no chicken and something else was missing. Not much choice left.. Also booked a table at the restaurant because the prices of the mains seemed reasonable. When ordering my main, I am told there is no sides included. So instead of paying £15 for a main you're ending up paying £25 (if you're a normal human being and you're usually having veg and potatoes with your piece of meat). The portions were minuscule. It was soaked in oil and butter. It looked like there was no effort whatsoever put in those plates. Basically, proper tourist trap. We live in South West Devon and come down to Cornwall quite often. But we never had such a disappointing experience. It's unacceptable to pay £110 for what we had. We went to the bar next door to have a drink after dinner and the staff turned the background music off at 9 o'clock.Which felt a little awkward. Did seem that they were waiting for us to leave. What are you supposed to do though? We're in the middle of nowhere, we can't go anywhere else! Breakfast: There is two choices for the starter, and of course one of the choice wasn't available. (the croissants). I had porridge for a starter which was delicious. I ordered a bagel as the main with avocado and scrambled eggs. Hard to go wrong with that, I thought... When looking at my plate, I saw some liquid all over it. I tasted it, it was garlic butter. Garlic butter all over my bagel, avocado and tomatoes bits soaked in it... I've never seen this. Seriously, garlic butter in the morning? Why? With avocados? It seems like the chef has not much clue. It ruined the whole breakfast. Another thing: Don't write FRESH fruit juice on the menu when the juice isn't actually freshly pressed. If it comes from a bottle with conservatives, it's not fresh. Basically, I don't think that was fair. Shame because we live two hours away and I would have loved to go back to Housel Bay hotel for our little weekends get away.

booked a table in the terrace for evening meal. Portion sizes were small, I had the mussels which was more like a starter than a main. Cheese board really was a joke £10 for 2 tiny sticks of standard cheddar cheese. So dissapointed as it was a family treat and I could tell no one was impressed, came away £190.00 lighter and still hungry. The standard of all the meals was mediocre.

We had dinner on the Terrace. The views are fabulous, but it was getting dark. The choice of starters was tiny, we went for feta stuffed peppers that were OK, just like what you get in a supermarket, and olives with bread. The bread was focaccia, a bit on the stale side. We then ordered mussels, which were good. They were supposed to come with ‘freshly baked bread’, which as it turned out was the same slightly stale focaccia. This was slightly disappointing, especially as the bread was hyped up on the menu. Our experience at breakfast (we stayed at HBH) was quite similar: overall, decent food, but the fresh sourdough advertised on the menu was an odd hard piece of road toast, and the orange juice was the cheapest sort out of a supermarket carton. The food needs to improve in quality if the Hotel wants to live up to the image it is trying to create.

We visited Fallowfields restaurant twice in our 2 week holiday here and both times were exceptional. The menu is set but there is plenty of choice and they catered well for the members in our party who were allergic to shellfish (including the free appetiser that they made especially to not include crab). For fine dining, the food was great value and tasted fresh as well as the wine that was good quality but at a reasonable price. The waitress, Lucy, was great. She remembered our allergies from a previous visit and was very attentive to the table all night. At first the portion sizes seem small but once you get the free appetiser, then your starters mains etc you are happily full. The fillet steak was to die for and well worth the supplement. I'm lucky to live only a few miles from here & can comfortably say that the Housal Bay Hotel has probably the best terrace garden that you could wish for; south facing with absolutely stunning views across the Lizard Peninsula, you can spend hours gazing out to sea whilst soaking up the sun & enjoying a drink. Therefore it comes as a big surprise to me that I have to mention how disappointing I was recently with of all things a Cornish Cream Tea; for such a lovely establishment it was a massive let down & being a local I know my cream teas.A small pot of runny jam, completely without any fruit; meagre amount of cream & scones not even up to the standard of my local supermarket down the road in Helston ; all for £7.50. I have had cream teas here in the past which were lovely ... What's happened ???Come on management , get this sorted please .. Holidaymakers love a Cream Tea down here, if that's the best you can do they won't be back.My 2 star rating isn't for the Hotel, it's for the Cream Tea .........

Wow, what a deeply disappointing experience. For the main, my fiance ordered the moules mariniere and being gluten intolerant asked if they could substitute the bread for chips . The waitress went to the kitchen to enquire and came back with a no, saying we would need to purchase chips on the side. Okay, fine. The mussels ended up being little vessels of rubber bathed in garlic water. The bread arrived anyway - wasn't eaten and nothing said. I ordered the Buddha Bowl to give myself a break from all the great seafood we had been eating elsewhere. It consisted of a giant bowl of couscous with a few roughly chopped bits thrown in. We decided to end with a coffee and the black coffee turned out to be a brown coffee. I politely asked if we could have another cup, maybe a espresso which the waitress obviously thought quite amusing as I could see her sniggering and pulling a face when I walked off (If you are going to do that maybe make sure there are no mirrors around).... and I was polite, uncalled for.Anyway, a new coffee arrived and it had red lipstick marks on it. Yuk. Went to pay but my card was declined. It happens, - tried again and it works. Waitress seemed to find this amusing too. Oh well, what do you do? Let yourself get annoyed on your holiday or wait until you get home and write a review. Nice views though. Next time I might pack a lunch to enjoy them.

We have been walking the local coast path for years and one of our favourite things to do is walk from the lizard to church cove and stop at the HBH for a pint and crab sandwiches. On a wild and windy day in February - we did exactly that. However the hotel has been revamped and refurbished - v smart. Too smart?? A bit of a pastiche in my opinion. Too many cliches and anchors but that’s not the problem. Lunch is the problem. No sandwiches on a half term Wednesday- instead a Buddha bowl ? Mediterranean flatbreads? Falafel wraps? And a sort of pizza that wasn’t a pizza . You can dip your hands in the Atlantic from this beautiful spot - yet I am transported to the med? Where is the passion for our LOCAL food? Have these things by all means but why not do a wonderful celebration of Cornish food too- a delicious pasty, a ploughman’s lunch ? Fresh mackerel, a pint of prawns? AND YES CRAB SANDWICHES!!! People who love Cornwall want to eat local inspired produce. This Mediterranean slant is misplaced and feels very odd The waitress who has served us before over the years was charming as usual but smiled wryly at my comments. Walkers have always used the HBH as a stop and it’s good trade - you should cater for them. The kids were as bewildered as I was but duly ate their flatbreads which were fine. Upgrading is important and understandable but don’t forget your roots- we are not on the edge of theMed. We are on the edge of the Atlantic at the furthest south you can get - isn’t that cause for celebration? I see your dinner menu is more locally focused. Why not just improve your light bites and lunches to incorporate more too? Word spreads among walkers and locals alike so before long a decent lunch means people will be back again and again and maybe make the trip for dinner too? We live in Cornwall and London and there is an idea that to attract new, well heeled customers - you have to offer what you can find in the big cities. Perhaps true to a point but actually people want and should be offered a taste of where they are.

We visited the restaurant a couple of times, once was for dinner on a Tuesday evening, we felt the menu was very limited and I tried the lamb flat bread pizza type which I didn’t really enjoy, my partner tried one of the fish dish and she enjoyed it but I feel the price didn’t reflect the quality at all. We also tried the brownie, personally I didn’t enjoy it at all after trying one spoonful although my partner did. So overall it wasn’t the most pleasant experience for me in terms of Dinner. I was a bit disappointed in where we were sat also which was on the terrace the tables were always sticky, so I was rather irritated with that. When it arrived it wasn't exactly as described on the menu and the base for the flatbread (tomato/cheese) was extremely dried up. Unfortunately this time the weather wasn’t kind enough for us to have our pre dinner drinks on the lower terrace. Food was excellent, scallops, followed by beef, delicious.Service was good with very pleasant staff. Eight of us in our party and all had a fantastic meal.

Being local we’ve heard of this place but never been so when my wife’s birthday came up I thought what better way to spend it then looking out over some stunning scenery with afternoon tea for two in the terrace restaurant. Booked it, had high hopes, was aiming for a good birthday gift score points, was betting on nailing this one! Lovely setting upon arrival, indeed stunning views of the gardens and coast line, unfortunately I’ve seen babies with wind smile more than the two ladies serving behind the bar and in the restaurant. Once seated we ordered some tea and lemonade and awaited the arrival of the high tea, it came in a lovely wooden compartment shelf box, looked amazing.......unfortunately upon looking again the wooden box was thick with dust! On the top and on the shelves containing the food...GRIM! We waited for anyone to return to us, happy 2 appeared and suggested that we needed plates, yes we did but I also pointed out to her that the shelving was full of dust, she replied ‘I don’t know I’ll ask the chef’...odd answer, it’s not edible, I don’t want the recipe thanks! Clearly not listening! She brings the plates back and I write a swirl into the dust again explaining this was on the food shelves, it was taken away back to the kitchen. Happy 1 reappeared and did apologise stating they were making a new one up. Good stuff, was worried it may just get a spit polish! A while later she reappeared with some scones, jam and cream to have while we wait...that’s nice but it should have come with the afternoon tea in the first place as it states that on the website and in the pictures shown on the website! Being Cornish I’ve eaten literally a lifetimes worth of cream teas I can honestly say while the scones were delicious I have never had quite such runny jam, more like syrup but still, yummy while we waited. To their credit they did rectify the situation, (hence 3 stars not 1) Happy 1 returned with a new wooden box, minus the dust this time, again apologised and this box had a much better selection on the dust free shelves, guess chef had a slapped wrist for this one! The afternoon tea was good, lovely cakes and sandwiches, although a lack of cake forks in the building as we had to eat with dinner forks, we finished off with another pot of tea and we then decided that we were happily stuffed and should be on our way. Surprisingly when picking up the tab afternoon tea doesn’t actually come with tea included, different approach I suppose but the tab was settled and we went on our way. Overall nice for the visit once but other places to take high tea before returning there I think. Perhaps service with a smile and some interaction would go a long way, as well as the kitchens being more careful about what they are happy to send out to customers! Birthday points still nailed in the end though!!

We were a party of eight booked into the Terrace for dinner, on arriving the waitress/barperson took two of our orders for drinks then disappeared leaving the rest of us wondering why so we had to go up and follow her to complete the order. Once seated in the Terrace enjoying an amazing view we were asked within about 5 mins from sitting down if we were ready to order. It all felt a bit rushed throughout the whole evening. The view was beautiful, the food good but not amazing. We had to ask for items that were missing with the Mussel dish and the side portions were very small. I personally would never order flatbreads again here, crispy edges and nothing special VERY disappointing as the names and descriptions had our mouths watering. The burgers and fish and chips meals were well received. We were swiftly moved on by the waitress to place an order for desserts and the cheeseboard I shared with one other was lovely, we all said it was a shame there was nothing light to choose from the dessert menu except ice cream based dishes and heavy desserts. We spent a lot of money that night but all felt it could have been better with a bit more choice on the menu.

Came in for dinner on a Saturday evening. Both ordered the beef burgers. They were fantastic, the beef was so so tasty. The fennel slaw was great & the homemade chips were fantastic too. Both ordered desserts & they were equally good. If I have a complaint, the beef patty could have been bigger, but maybe I’m being greedy?!

We have visited the Housel Bay Hotel for lunch a number of times over the last 10 years. Lunch today surpassed every other visit and is probably one of the best crab sandwiches I have ever had.

Dinner mit Traumaussicht aufs Meer.Altes, charmantes Haus.

We booked for Sunday lunch a table for 9 some weeks ago to celebrate a birthday. Having eaten here in the past and always experiencing good food with attentive staff, we thought it would be the ideal choice. What a disappointment! There were only two waiting staff (one who told us it was his first day), and quite frankly lacked initiative but tried his best. Our gripes are: (1) we had to ask for a wine list, (2) ask for horseradish to accompany the beef (only 1 tiny pot was handed to us although 7 persons chose the roast beef dinner (3) no one checked to see if we were happy with the meal (4) we had to ask for more water (5) no one asked if we wanted any drinks (6) the salt lid was faulty, fell off and almost ruined a meal (7) we waited a VERY long time to be served, and all those who had the roast beef agreed it was dried out and overcooked. Eventually our orders for dessert were taken and after what seemed like ages, these were brought out by a chef. Finally, the serving of coffee was also a very lengthy process with some of us finished before others had received theirs. We did feel sorry for the young lad who was trying his best but quite frankly where was the Manager??? Someone in authority should have overseen the shambolic service. The lunch time service was by no means that busy - we have seen it much busier in the past and with a slick service. There was a gentleman who spent most of the time in the bar area and never came in to check on the two members of staff. The lack of management was very noticeable and no one seemed to care. Unfortunately, the Housel Bay Hotel lunch will be remembered for all the wrong reasons!

Really memorable meal tonight. A taster of Thai mussels followed by home cured brill and hake with crab ravioli. Hubby had porkbelly with fig and black pudding . All tasted wonderful with friendly service and reasonably priced for this quality. Cheers.

Superb.Absolutely fabulous location and amazing food. Found by recommendation for good food. We were not staying there but visited for lunch. Will definitely go back for dinner and coffee / afternoon tea as an alternative to the other cafes on Lizard point that we normally head for.

Dropped in on spec, impressed with the changes made since our last visit. Friendly helpful welcome, excellent food at lunchtime (though the rather thick doorstep sandwiches were too much of a mouthful! Thinner bread would be preferable) the twice baked soufflé and the arancini balls were beautifully cooked. We'll be back!

Altogether a great experience. The food was lovely and a well furnished and comfortable room with a wonderful view of the cliffs, the Lizard lighthouse and Housel Bay.The garden path from the hotel leads directly on to the coastal footpath. A snug bathroom. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with a comfortable lounge and comfy chairs and sofas in the bar and log fire area and also comfy sofas at the end of the dining area.Beautifully warm in a cold winter period. You can see the fantastic views from every table in the dining area.A great place to explore the coastal footpath and the area around the Lizard. Look on their website for special offers..Free wifi.

Afternoon tea at The Housel Bay hotel was very pleasant and welcoming with tasty sandwiches and cakes served with a glass of proseco wine and of course tea. We has two types of tea, a fruit herbal and an afternoon tea blend. The conservatory has a superb view across the bay and hotel gardens. Well worth a visit and will definitely be back.

After booking in May 2017 and recieving confirmation and the money taken we arrived to find we had no room. We had booked the junior suite for a 3 night stay, the manager did manage to find us a room for that night but we had to be out the next morning. he managed the find us alternative accommodation, needless to say we will not be staying there again.

Perseverance down impossibly narrow lanes brings a lovely view from the Housel Bay Hotel terrace and rooms. Parking is close to the door but the gravel makes wheeling suitcases difficult. Food a little disappointing with over cooked duck for dinner and soggy fried bread with breakfast. Room 6 has a lovely view but is small with a very narrow rather tired bathroom in need of an upgrade to stop the dripping shower etc. The ancient lift does however work well.

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
