The staff here are friendly and thorough when asking if any allergies or dietary requirements. Service was great, and did not have to wait for long for food after ordering. Got to sit outside. The server made sure the outdoor heater was on and that we were comfortable. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

The house of the rising sun is a smart, stylish bar. There is a nice outside seating area at the front. It's mainly a place to come and eat. We didn't try the food. We only called in for a drink. There's a fair choice of beers and wine. Unfortunately, they don't have any cask conditioned real ales. The staff are friendly and the food menu did look good.

Absolutely brilliant. Can't fault anything or suggest any improvements. So sad we don't live closer . I'd advise anybody to go . Great variety of food. Good value . Nice service from pleasant staff who seemed to be knowledgeable about the food .

30th Birthday Celebration! I've never had a bad experience whilst at House of the Rising Sun but wanted to leave this review from my most recent visit. We booked a large group for evening meal to celebrate my sisters birthday and from booking to when we left everything was brilliant. The staff there are so accommodating and communicate well about dietary restrictions and dealing with a large group. We took a birthday cake to them earlier in the day and asked that it be brought out for desert later. When I asked if they had any candles there the staff member said if they didn't that a member of staff could pop out and get us some if need be. Our waiting staff were very attentive, always filling up our water and keeping an eye on when our drinks were running low. They explained that because of the large group that food might not all come out at the same time, which was fine, however, there were no big delays and was actually preferable. The food is amazing there, and I would highly recommend the mezze board and noodles. The cocktails are also very tasty and not just full of sugar. If you don't manage to finish your food then they are happy to box it up for you to take. When it came time for the cake to come out they turned the main lights down and staff were even singing happy birthday, which was appreciated. Service charge is optional but I dont see how you could not include this as I've never been able to fault the place or the service we get there. As we left we were told it was a pleasure to have us there which was nice given it was a very busy Saturday for them. All in all would highly recommend whether it's for lunch or evening meal, a quiet one or a celebration.

Local looks lovely. People who sarve you are really nice and polite. But quality of the food is rubbish. Ordered mazz board, chicken katsu and beef teryiaki. To be honest when saw dishes was happy that I didn't order dessert. Mazz board was ok. Just ok. No taste explosion. You can probably get the same experience by buying hummus, olives, falafel at any shop as a ready meal. Seriously. I was really dissapointed. Chicken katsu and beef teryiaki was just tasteless. Katsu dish looks like a mess on a plate and sauce was just watery. Teryiaki was micro portion. Size of the portion isn't an issue as long as you can feel that you pay for quality. But leaving there 60 pounds for tasteless meal? Seriously if you like rich flavour kitchen help yourself and skip that place.

A word of warning that once your two hour allocation is up you’ll be moved. Visited on 27th January with two other friends, food is always amazing and the service usually is too which is why I recommended this to my friends. On this night our food was slow arriving, which is fine as the atmosphere is quite relaxed and we were enjoying catching up. Once we’d finished our plates were taken away and we were told we were being moved to another table to have dessert. This table wasn’t in the main area and was on bar stools so quite uncomfortable. We chose to leave and my friend made a comment to the waiter that she was disappointment that we had to move. The waiter proceeded to be quite aggressive to me and stated that I was told when booking that we have a 2 hour window - we promptly paid and left. I emailed HOTRS hoping for a resolve or even an apology but unfortunately I didn’t hear back and will unlikely return.

Amazing service and atmosphere. In our opinion food is very overpriced for what is pretty mediocre "tapas". Well decorated but that doesn't always translate to taste. Bao buns are great but we expected 2 for a 'tapas' place for sharing. Portions are very small for the price of them. Take a look at the menu before booking a table and just note that the plates are very small. 6 £9-£12 plates will be enough to fill up the average couple.

I tried booking on the website 3 times and it didn’t work. I called 6 times through the day and kept getting to the answering machine. When I got there the service was better and the staff were very accommodating and the food was great.

Lovely atmosphere, soft & calm energy. Service was wonderful, friendly but not in your face. Food was bigger portions than expected, tasted fresh and already can’t wait to come back.

Not great , average food , average service . Booked on system for 6 people for a 21st birthday meal . No reference to it by staff at all . We werent asked how our meal was nothing at all staff not interested Very overpriced for the quality of food we had .

Liked the place and food, marked atmosphere down as the music was so loud and we found it difficult to talk , or hear the staff. This made us only stay about an hour, which was a shame as it looked great and clearly very popular!

An absolute gem. We called in by chance and were very fortunate to get a table. The staff were brilliant. The food was absolutely amazing. Cannot praise the place enough. Great atmosphere . If you are in Shrewsbury this place is a must.

Fab place Buttttt… The reason it’s getting 1 star is because my son was there on Sat 2nd Dec in a group. He took a moment to check bill anfter tapping his card and saw that he’d been grossly overcharged. He questioned this and was reimbursed without hesitation. He is awaiting refund to come through. Check your bills, folks !!

This place has a gorgeous relaxing vibe. We couldn’t book for dinner, so we did lunch instead and we’re glad we did! Love the whole ‘Land, Earth and Sea’ part of the menu. The service was amazing and they were really honest about how big or small the portion sizes were. The noodles and bao buns are fantastic, but the sweat and sour tofu was too sugary for me. Overall a great experience.

I have visited this establishment many times, and its always an amazing experience. The cocktails are suburb and were what originally drew me to the place, but it became a regular spot once i tried the food- it is heavenly! a particular favourite is the tempura aubergine with honey, its addictive!

Food took 45 minutes to arrive. Customers arrived 15 minutes later than us got their order (same dish as ours) served first. Staff did not explain the reason. Food was terrible. Yellow noodles tasted unfresh. Teriyaki beef was completely dry without a single droplet of juice. Portion was ridiculously small for the crabmeat and pork belly vermicelli , and I could only find chicken meat rather than pork or crab. I still felt hungry and needed to dine in another restaurant afterwards. Absolutely nothing went right in any aspect.

Never been here before but was recommended. We weren't given a menu when we were shown to our table, we had to get someones attention to request one. Waited quite a long time for our order to be taken, but the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We originally ordered the 4 wave menu, but after wave 1 requested it be changed to the 2 wave one, which they did accomodate. The first wave was nice, a meze board, but the second was disappointing. A massive bowl of shrimp crackers, cheap cuts of meat, some rice. Cost £30 per head which I thought was way over priced. We sat upstairs and the corner we were sat in was so dark you could hardly read the menu or see what you were eating. I would return to try a different dish, but request to sit downstairs

Such an amazing evening would heavily recommend to anyone visiting Shrewsbury! And not just because of the food 😋 Exceptional service by Jude 28.10.23 for a birthday evening meal. Food of different points off the menu from Masala mussels to Mezze Board. Beautiful introduction and seated by Emma, also delightful and personalised service by Aidy.

Great place to eat - collection of different foods from all over the world, service really efficient and created a relaxing well provided atmosphere - right in the heart of the city but lots of parking with walking distance although generally "up hill"!

Wonderful restaurant! Our servers Luke and Sophie were fantastic, and the food was delicious. We had the salty edamame for a starter,and it was the best we've ever had. All of our entrees were outstanding. Definitely recommend!

This is a street food/tapas style restaurant where just one dish is unlikely to fill you up. Dishes were nice, I had edamame beans, oyster mushroom bao bun and fish tacos, which were nice although I felt there was too much coleslaw on the tacos. I had the rice pudding for dessert which was inedible as the rice was still hard. We were in Shrewsbury on holiday so I would be unlikely to eat here again.

Great place for food, would recommend the baked crab, teriyaki beef and pork belly. Staff are chatty and friendly, would advise to pre book a table especially at dinner time as it gets booked up. Cocktails are lush but expensive! I had their own ‘solero’ cocktail over the weekend which was 10/10 😎

Enjoyed the tapas style food. The majority of the dishes were sufficient to share, which is the intent of tapas. However, the Peruvian sea bass was very small. The staff were friendly and attentive. We sat outside, so can't really rate the atmosphere.

Fabulous cocktails! My favourite place for a catch up with friends!

We booked a table for 7pm on 29/07/23. We arrived 20mins early but were seated straight away, given water and the menus. The atmosphere was great, just the right side of lively! I had the tarte tatin cocktail which was deliciously tangy, set off perfectly with the dried pear slice. We opted for the spicy chilli beef, fish tacos, char sui pork belly and a side order of skin on chips. The food was excellent, perfectly seasoned and the pork belly was our favourite dish, presented beautifully and the flavour combinations worked so well together and it was a big portion. The only reason it was a 4 stars with the food is because the fish tacos were cold on arrival but still tasty. We will defintely be coming again, thank you for a fab dining experience!!

Attentive and flexible staff who helped make the evening a pleasure. Swift service, even for latecomers like myself. Food was good. A pleasant venue with a nice atmosphere.

The beef teriyaki was okay and didn't taste like the best cut (very chewy) they could have gotten considering the price. We went back in may and they had a different menu which was a lot better. Could have been that we booked a dinner reservation rather than a previous lunch hour but the service was much poorer and felt less personalised

A lovely experience for evening dining with brilliant service. The servers explained the small plate dining and recommended order size perfectly and a great understanding of allergies, including gluten free. The prices aren’t cheap but the food is very good!

Some of the nicest food me and my partner have had. We spoke to the bar man and he made cocktails for us based on what we liked. If you get the chance definitely ask them for the Opium cocktail it's (it's in line with some of the other Lychee ones on the menu) 10/10 cocktail

Food didn’t quite live up to the potential it should have. Food was lacking the sauce, instead came with a mild drizzle. Portion sizes weren’t great either

THANKYOU JOHNNY! We have been many times to this restaurant, and will keep coming back! We want to give a shout-out to our waiter, Johnny. He was as always very efficient, polite and friendly throughout. Johnny took great care of our whole group throughout the meal, and gave us extra help when needed (promptly cleaning up after we spilled wine). The slightest delay in food/drink being brought to us as he would personally resolve the situation, and compensated us for the delay! So we truly had brilliant service, all the staff really look after customers but Johnny went to extra mile!! Anyway, to review the rest: the atmosphere is always good there and the food is exceptional and different to anywhere else we’ve been in Shrewsbury. 10/10 :D

We had the wave menu and we were not short on food. All of it was delicious and presented beautifully. Service was brilliant, with the waiters giving helpful advice about each dish - it was great. The wave menu is perfect for something like an anniversary dinner when you have plenty of time to enjoy it - but make sure you're ready for it as there's a lot of food to get through!

As visitors to Shrewsbury we chose to book a table here for lunch as we were curious to try the fusion of Asia and Pacific Rim cuisine promised. It didn't disappoint. The food was flavoursome and reasonably priced and the staff were friendly and attentive making for a wonderful break from our sightseeing. Definitely one to remember.

Lovely can't be beat in Shrewsbury

As a young lone diner that is in Shrewsbury for work almost every 3 weeks I've been to HOTRS a handful of times. Ive never been made to feel more comfortable than I have here. The staff are delightful and the food is amazing. A really accommodating and wonderful restaurant.

I would say this is one of the best places to eat in Shrewsbury! Every dish off the menu is absolutely delicious, cooked to a high standard and full of flavour. All staff are friendly and helpful, and the cocktails are high quality too. Highly recommend!

Came to Shrewsbury for a day out came across this place. Food was really tasty, cooked fresh so you'll have a little wait but it is worth the wait. Service was nice and would definitely return again. There's plenty of choices for a variety of dietary requirements such as vegan and gluten free.

The only reason it’s not a 5 is because we pre booked in advance and noted it was a special birthday as it was my 21st. They did acknowledge it was my birthday when we arrived but we had to wait for our table and then the food took a while coming out. There was no extras despite it being a special occasion…I’m aware they never promised anything but it wasn’t made to feel very special unfortunately compared to other restaurants we have been to on special occasions… The food is nice however and we did enjoy our food. A more personal touch would’ve made it a 5.

After trawling around Shrewsbury Town looking for something different for lunch we decided to try this place. Lovely atmosphere lovely staff and the food was excellent.

A nice place to eat, with a pretty atmosphere, and food was presented beautifully in nice crockery. Quite pricey, but decent pricing with the government eat out help out scheme! The falafel in pitta (lunch menu) was the best value for money, from what we ordered. The food tasted nice, but not amAzing. What could be improved: The spicy edamame was nice, but the sauce tasted a bit like siriracha - I would probably go for the classic salt flavour. The portion sizes were quite small for their price. The tempura was a little oily. Could be better if food came out a bit quicker (but that may have been because there were 5 people).

Menu hasn’t changed since I’ve started coming 4 years ago, portions seem to have shrank too. Can’t fault the floor staff, but the whole experience is underwhelming considering the price. Bill came to nearly £110, I had a Fireaway pizza on the way home (I weigh 10 stone for context).

A bomb scare derailed our work Christmas party an hour before it was scheduled at a nearby venue. Half the town centre had been evacuated and cordoned off by police, including the venue. House of the rising Sun is a known local hot spot where it's tricky to get a table for 2, never mind 14. We took shelter in a nearby bar and began going door to door, to find a new venue, at 7 pm on December 8 (a fun prospect). Hearing our story, the accommodating team did some rearranging and had us sat down 45 minutes later (enough time for a couple of practice rounds in the pub). I'd like to name the people who helped us but really, the whole team were spot on. It also doesn't hurt that the food's stellar and they know how to make an espresso martini that's not all Kahlua. Have the takoyaki BTW. Thank you to all who were working at House of the rising Sun that night, you saved the Radfield Home Care national office Christmas party.

It was a tough choice between four and five stars - the food itself was incredible, it was a unique selection that blended together perfectly. The only reason this isn't a five star review is the noise was incessant, particularly the table directly behind us. They were obnoxiously loud to the point of causing a headache, and nothing was done about it. It's a shame, because the food is some of the best we've ever eaten out.

Poor small portions, poor explained you need to order several dishes to make a meal. Food nice taste but each portion just slightly bigger than tapas, if your hungry go else where. Post live now. Will we go back .... no

Took colleagues for dinner here. Nice food but let down by clumsy staff. Waitress dropped a drink over one of my guests and soaked her and her shopping bags. Still had to pay in full for her meal despite being drenched, a bit poor really! Other waiters also clumsy - dropping menus on floor and knocking over slate signs onto the floor from the bar. Atmosphere otherwise great and food is high quality. The waves menu is lovely but remains unchanged from when I came over 6 months ago.

So here's an updated review. Gluten free options are (slightly) better but the food portions are much better. I think the prices have gone up but where hasn't?! Cocktails are awesome and the staff are lovely. Super attentive without being overbearing. There's a guy in there with shoulder length hair who often wears bright nail polish - he's awesome. Atmosphere wise..... Not for a lovely cheery lunch but for dinner or a bit of day drinking it's ideal!
