Hotwok in Chelmsford

After China Kitchen has fallen apart, I wanted to try a new place. Ordered the Salt and Chilli box for £22. Food arrived promptly and was very hot. Each bit was very tasty and will definitely be ordering again but with a pot of satay sauce to dip in too!

I have written reviews on hot wok over the years, and the quality is up and then down, tonight my food was cold, the reason, they were busy. I love the fact they are busy but i am not sure it should be at the expense of me. I have spent more the £2,500 here now, the app is great it shows how much you have spent and how often you order, clearly non of this matters when they are busy. This will be my last order

Awful food satay chicken were completely raw! I wasn’t going to write this but the girl behind the counter was very rude and couldn’t even apologise!!!!

This takeaway was my favourite for so long but the last 3 times have confirmed the standards have dropped. They must have a new chef. I loved being able to order online, with an account that shows we have ordered 32 times, and spent £732 there. But, loyalty doesn't get you better food. The prawn toast is put in a plastic container so gets to you soggy, the chicken balls have gone way down hill in quality and are always incredibly greasy, and the flavour in the chow mein has disapeared. Sorry to say we have had to move on which is a shame cause the online ordering is fun and delivery always fast.

They made mistake with order as did I but would not help wanting to charge me half price for the food. we have spend over £500 with this company and extremely unhappy

To set the scene indian takeaways are so safe and commercial in SWF they have forgotten what Indian food should taste like. I went to an expensive Indian restaurant the other day in London and it reminded me how good an Indian meal should be. HotWok did the same for me tonight locally with Chinese food.I ordered dishes I wouldn't normally have chosen, they specialise in technical dishes. The flavours and spice shone through testing my taste buds. Haven't been excited by a takeaway for a while but this one is worth writing about. I chose: Spring rolls, chicken balls in batter, "Delicious Steamer", Singapore noodles, King prawn rice and maybe a few more. Everything had so much flavour! Restored my faith in takeaways. Is the best I have had in South Woodham, and the website is awesome. If the quality stays this high I won't be choosing another Chinese in SWF. Good food isn't about loyalty, it's about quality, if the quality stays this high the fact you can get a discount for being loyal is a real bonus. Try something new. I will go through the menu for sure over the coming months

If you like good Chinese food then why not try this restaurant, the staff there are very friendly, they have a good menu to choose from & all their choices are very reasonably priced.

We ordered takeaway on the 14th July. Could not fault the food and delivery was on time. Would recommend to all

Best Chinese in South Woodham Ferrers. Food is always delicious, garlic chicken is our favourite. You can order online and save up points to get money off a future order

I was really hoping this would be good. But it wasn't. Ordered KungPo chicken. Chicken tasted awful. Not fresh. I would go so far to say that I bet it was frozen pre-cooked chicken. Horrible. Went in the bin. Ribs were nice, and Beef in black bean was good also.

Simply the best! Food is always piping hot and fresh, the portions are also very big so plenty to share!

Always consistently good, hot food. fab internet ordering service with loyalty scheme, haven't yet tried delivery but always ready on time for collection

I have used this takeaway three times now, and probably wont give it another chance. The interior and waiting area are nice and clean, the menu is interesting and varied (including Dim Sum), but have been given the wrong items on two occasions e.g. ordering crabmeat and sweetcorn soup only to get home to find it is chicken and sweetcorn. Some of the dishes are lovely (would recommend the vegetarian Singapore noodles), but more often have been disappointed. The noodles are overly oily and seemingly not cooked enough. That is to say they lack that flash fried very slightly smoky taste you get with good noodles. The vegetable dishes have a wonderful selection of fresh ingredients but again, taste like they have barely seen the wok and the sauces of the three veggies dishes I have tried have been a bit cloying and lacking in flavour. The staff are very friendly and helpful but in my opinion the food is currently letting them down.
